My husband and I went to dinner tonight with a couple of our best friends. We love the food and service at JP's and go there very often, but boy did we have an awful night at the table we were given. We are all in our 60'a and were placed at a lovely front table. To our surprise we were then with a party of 16 or more and at least 7-8 kids. We couldn't even talk with one another. It was so loud!!! The table for this party was reserved and set when we were given our table, and I don't feel like we should have been put in that room, seeing as how they knew there was going to be this big party. The kids were so loud. When we go out, we want to enjoy ourselves, and be able to at least talk with one another. This could not happen tonight. My recommendation for JP's would be to reserve the whole room for parties, and not place four older adults in a room with a party with all these kids. The parents and grand-parents did nothing to quiet the children even seeing that we were in the front corner of this room. Our waitress was great, and the food was as well. read more

It was really, really tasty. I took off the breading and almost felt like I was eating healthy fish LOL. But the breading was not heavy, or greasy, perfection. I got the german potato salad and macaroni salad. Both also very good. Got my hubs and Combo II which consisted of a mini beef on wek, chicken fingers and chicken wings for under 10 bucks. The food was pretty good and actually had spice to it! A very solid option, but I wouldn't drive with the crazy Hamburg people to get there. I went on St. Patrick's day but called ahead for my order. The girl on the line said 20 mins and when I got there the order was done. That is great service for how busy they were. This is one of the hottest spots in Hamburg. It is usually packed so getting a booth or table can be hard to get. My husband and I have not had a bad meal here. The Fitz's Kickin' shrimp is spicy but not too hot- great as an appetizer or a light meal. The boyfriend & I were visiting from Ontario, attending a concert at the Fairgrounds, and we stopped here for dinner. Lucky for us it happened to be on a Friday, so we got to experience the fish fry! The wait was the biggest downside to the visit. The place was so busy we were told we'd have to wait 1-1.5 hours for a table. We decided to wait, since we didn't know the area well and the Fairgrounds were so close by (and we had time to kill). There were masses of people getting takeout of the fish fry- that piqued our interest. When we finally got a table we decided to try it for ourselves. The bartenders are attentive and friendly. I got a very complicated drink order for multiple different people in a quick amount of time. Unfortunately, 1/4 of the people inside this bar are people I went to high school with. My husband, couple of friends, and I went here on a whim and decided to give it a try with the parking lot being so full. We got the Beef on Weck, Gypsy Burger, Dinner combo 2 with mild sauce, closed Ruben, children's macaroni and cheese, and a children's chicken tenders with no sauce and everything was fantastic. The wings were huge! Nobody at the table could remember seeing wings that big anywhere and the sauce, while mild, had a lot of flavor. The burger was huge, cooked to perfection, juicy, and very flavorful. The beef on weck was juicy, cooked perfectly, very flavorful, and had the right amount of salt/herbs on the bun. The closed Ruben was a great size, the meat to sauerkraut ratio was perfect, and the bread was not soggy at all. The fries looked like they had fresh clean oil and were nice and crunchy with no sogginess to them at all. Even though the parking lot was full, we were able to get a seat right away and had a wonderful server that was so patient with us. The only downside is the parking situation, it is extremely hard to find a parking spot at rush hour and there is not any overflow parking anywhere. We have been a fan of the fish fry at JP's for probably about 20 years now. Tried them other places over the years but the other could never measure up. Last time we went though, I thought it wasn't up to its usual excellence. I am hoping their latest remodel/expansion hasn't affected the food quality. Coming to this establishment is a must every time we return to Hamburg. The reuben and beef on weck dance on our taste buds every time the plane touches down at BUF, and I'm drawn into the place like a moth to a flame. At about $9 each, these two plates of traditional cuisine served with Ruffles potato chips say "comfort" and "yummy" with each bite while "good value" echoes on our ears from beginning to end of the meal. The place is either run-down or classic in decor, depending on what you are hoping for. I enjoy the coziness, but I would not call this a place to take someone who has "fancy pants" as a nick name, despite how much I like the food. The servers are always busy but friendly and ready with a quick quip - I like that in a server, though I have to admit my usual dinner companion is not so likely to be a fan. We went to JP's for my 8 year olds birthday dinner. She is a huge fish fry fan and we heard JP's does not disappoint! Our server was Kim and she was absolutely amazing! My kids can be a lot to handle and she did so with ease. Our drinks were served immediately and Kim didn't even mind when the indecisive birthday girl changed her mind as her first drink was delivered. Our apps and food were served with the perfect amount of time in between each. She even took it upon herself to serve the kids first because she knew they were hungry. My daughter requested that she be sang to for her birthday and Kim enthusiastically did just that- with a large group of employees. Try the beer battered fish with amazingly crispy and fresh Cole slaw and yummy perfectly dressed macaroni salad ...the beer batter was puffy and crisp and the fish tender and flakey! I don't even like fish but this was exceptional ...only complaint they should serve fresh rye bread with fish fry not a dinner roll ...other than that this was top quality buffalo fish fry ...also ordered the seasoned waffle fries on the side ...highly recommended!
