We came here on a Friday night around 5. The wait was about 45 minutes. We were seated at a booth with two people on each side. I feel like I didn't have enough Elbow Room and both of us have normal body mass indexes. Otherwise I ordered a Mediterranean quinoa salad with Falafel and it was really tasty. Other people ordered the fish fry which they said was very tasty with the fish being fluffy and Light. Somebody else order the chicken wings and really enjoyed them. They noted that wing were very fresh tasting and not overly salty but very flavorful. The service was okay but they could have been more proactive about bringing napkins and utensils for dessert. read more

FISH FRY PROMISED LAND I finally got around to wrapping my mouth around the coveted JP's fish fry that has been known to have such a profound and intoxicating affect on local patrons that its caused them to sell off their first-born children for another taste (It's ok, the children live downstairs in the beer cellar until they are of age to work in the bar, kitchen or restaurant. The good looking kids spend their days practicing their Irish jigs & singing "Sweet Caroline", and are fed a steady diet of chicken wings and Gypsy Pete's until they're ready to bartend or become a hostess. The uglier kids shovel coal and are fed fish heads and cabbage until they are able to become bouncers. It's a fair system.) Anyways, that fish fry DID NOT disappoint. Better yet, I had it in the form of a fish sandwich, and armed with it's portability I could walk around and I still had one hand free for darts, beer drinking and shenanigans! It's been some time since I was last at JP's, but the remodel looks great. Bigger patio, more TV's and a huge banquet room are all nice additions to an already stellar hang-out spot. Great food, comfortable setting and a wide variety of choices from the bar, you can't go wrong. The service was great too. My husband had the open roast beef with gravy, while I had a rice skillet with grilled salmon. Both were very good. Extensive menu that should have something for everyone. Went to Hamburg for a little trip away from home and saw great reviews for JP Fitzgerald's so I had to give it a try! It was amazing, our waitress was so friendly, they have a beautiful outdoor patio to sit out and eat with umbrellas if you get too hot from the sun. They even allow dogs on the patio, which was a huge plus since we had are little maltipoo puppy with us who got a lot of attention and loved it! I got the fish fry, with Mac salad and French Fries with a cup of their French onion and my husband got their combo #2 which is right up his ally! Really awesome experience here last night! This seems to be the hot spot of Hamburg! It has a nice mixed crowd of young and old... what I found most interesting is in the banquet room they played 60's and 70's music and by the bar was Nelly and modern music lol. The bar and dining area were PACKED. That in itself should tell you that you're gonna get a good experience. We sat banquet and I was told their fish fry is to die for. So I ordered the battered fish fry with macaroni salad and mash potatoes! Boy was it yummy! I see what all the hype is about this place. It did NOT disappoint. The waitress was really witty and knew exactly what we needed. She was spot on and made sure we were well taken care of. I will definitely be coming here against for a fish fry very soon! Called at 8 pm on a Friday and the girl, Anna, told me they wouldn't do a pickup order for fish fry because they stopped serving them at 9pm... how does that make sense. Always love coming here, and this time was just as good as the rest. My husband and I came for lunch and were seated right away, however, it was almost full when we left. We started with the nacho supreme, which is one of my favorites. It's loaded with ground meat, cheese, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and onions. We ate it too fast to get a picture! My husband ordered the corned beef and cabbage meal, and started with a crock of french onion soup. His soup came out hot and loaded with cheese, which made him happy. One of the best french onion soups around! His corned beef and cabbage was very hot, but there was more cabbage than corned beef. He enjoyed it, but said it was missing a little flavor. I ordered off the winter special, the pasta primavera, but substituted rice for the pasta. It came with a salad or soup, which I decided on a salad. Basic salad, nothing special, but had decent toppings, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli. My rice primavera was nice and hot and had a great flavor with the olive oil and garlic sauce, and it came with a pita cut into four pieces. This is my favorite local Hamburg restaurant. The menu is huge, so there's always something for everyone. Everything I've had has been delicious. The only reason why I don't five 5 stars is because no matter the day or time, I'm always told there's a long wait, even though it's a huge place!! When we choose to wait, it's never as long as they say, so I'm not sure if this is some tactic they use for crowd control??! We don't even try to go there on weekends. read more

As a regular here, the food is consistently good. You get good service and the wait time is normally not long. If you want a good meal at a fair price this is the place for you. If you go on a Friday go early or expect a slightly longer wait time for a table. read more

Came back for dinner tonight at 8:30. The staff was very nice and personable. Ordered the open face Reuben sandwich on gluten free rye. 1st let me say that all gluten free bread is terrible but as I have to do the gluten free now I was happy to see that they have gluten free options. Super chill local hang out spot. Food is usually delicious- especially the French onion soup, Buffalo specials, and the corned beef and cabbage. Dining room open until mid nite and the bar until 4. Service is usually spot on. If you come earlier in the evening be prepared to wait! Bar area has popcorn to snack on and enjoy while you either wait for your table or enjoy a round of drinks. We really, really enjoyed our food here- while staying in the area we chose this twice for our evening meal. We placed takeout orders and the service was fast and the food was hot and fresh. The French onion soup is delicious! They use their homemade rye bread for the soup bread. We also tried 2 different salads that were pretty tasty, including the rye bread croutons. I was in the mood for French onion soup the other night so we went there for some dinner and drinks. Lisa was our waitress and she was phenomenal! Very friendly, great sense of humor, right on top of her game. I ordered the French onion soup and the club sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the shepherd's pie. The French onion soup here is hands down the best in the area. Super cheesy not overly salty. I will go back for this over and over again! The sandwich was delicious. And so were the side of onion rings I substituted instead of getting chips. Crispy. Not greasy at all. Even cold the crunch held up when I nibbled on my leftovers later! The shepherd's pie is made with pot roast rather than ground beef. It's very tasty! Seasoned to perfection, melt in your mouth goodness! That meal came with a huge Caesar salad which we ended up splitting. All of this accompanied with the few craft draft beers made for a perfect experience! I really like this place. It's very relaxed atmosphere and staff is nice. I've never had a problem here. Sometimes there's going to be wait times because the place is very popular. I am willing to wait for a table because I really like the food here. They have a wide variety on their menu which is awesome because even picky eaters can eat here lol. They have something in the menu for everybody. The only thing I don't like is the location of this place because It's kind of a far drive for me. Wish they could be closer! Had a group of 8 guys eating lunch this past Tuesday. Everyone said their lunch was ok to good but my lunch was not as good as I expected. I had a corned beef sandwich. It was supposed to come on a home baked rye roll. It came on store bought rye bread. The beef was very tender and flavorful but not much there. It was merely put in the middle.of the bread. I'm not even a soup person and it is fantastic! 5 stars for that alone ( if I had one critique it would be that it wasn't very hot but aside from temperature- amazing!)....also had an open Reuben which was really good. The rye bread was a thick flavorful slice, slightly crispy, full of tender corn beef and cheese. I hate places that skimp on the dressing and they certainly did not skimp on anything. JP's Fitzgerald's Thursday Nov 8, 2018 Arrived at JP's about noon and my aunt and I were promptly seated in the "garden room" (?). Upon entering this back room, I noticed that all the patrons were elderly. Everyone had white hair! What is this - a senior room? There were plenty of available tables in the other rooms, the booths were full, and still we were made to walk through the bar to that back room. And note, that as we sat there, the hostess seated more seniors until the room was full. My aunt is elderly and it would have been considerate to get us to a closer table. And I noticed prices are up - stuffed shells from 9.99 to 11.99...What's up with that? Our server (not naming her) approached and not only looked as if she had nothing on but an apron, but her APRON WAS FILTHY FILTHY!!!! My aunt asked, "Do you have anything on under that apron?" The server proudly turned and showed us her backside and smiled, "Shorts!" I never want to see short shorts again... REALLY? Is this even in the Health code? What is with these shorts at JP's? What happened to appropriate dress??? AND WASH YOUR APRON! Do you touch that crud with your hands??? This should have been our sign to leave because the coffee was bad - like water. Then my open face Reuben was dry with a smidgeon of sauerkraut, the corned beef so dry, the rye bread never toasted and sealed with butter or dressing so it was a wet melted mess except for the edges which were so dry (heat lamp) that I could not eat the bread... I had to ask for thousand island dressing to dip the corned beef in...wow and 11.99 ??? for a mess of a sandwich and those potato chips...hard and not tasty... What has happened to JP's? My aunt ordered a burger and it was deader than the floor... omg no flavor no salt pepper nothing but a over well hard rock on a dry -not toasted, cold bun with those stupid chips. My aunt had to drown the burger in ketchup to get it down, and she left the roll. Everyone after us was served before we were. I asked the server and she said, "Your burger takes longer." Sure it does when you cook it for an hour! We're done with JP's... Bob, where ever you are, we spoke last year and things have only gotten worse. And for the life of me I don't know why you can't serve fresh cut fries... makes no sense to me. We have been faithful patrons for years, and we bring all of our Irish cousins in when they come to Buffalo... but we are just too disappointed. read more

J.P. Fitzgerald's has changed, and how! This establishment has recently undergone significant renovations. I guess they were trying to keep up with spirit of progress in Hamburg, I'm surprised they didn't put a round-about in the parking lot. Since completion, I have been back on two occasions. The first trip back was to hang out at the bar while waiting for a party/shower to wrap up. The food was pretty good at the bar. I had the Chicken Fingers and a friend had the Mother Superior...Great Stuff! The folks at the shower enjoyed Chicken Piccata and Beef on Weck. All of the attendees raved about the food and the great service in the banquet area. Then there was the Jamison on the rocks...fantastic as always. Hey, it is, ostensibly, an Irish establishment The second visit was this past Friday. We had previously attempted a Friday dining experience here and were met with a wait of over an hour. Needless to say, we moved on. This time we arrived at about 8:30pm, after the rush, and we were successful. I enjoyed the fish fry and my dining partner had some sort of salad, although I can't quite recall which one. The fish was very good, one of the best I have had. That being said, a fish fry isn't just about the fish...one must judge a fish fry in its entirety. Once again, I am afraid that that the french fries do not live up to the high bar that is set by the fish...quel dommage (oops, just a brief flashback to my wonderful meal at Paris Crêpes). Really, it is a pity. I found my fries to be a limp yellow and white as opposed to the crisp, golden brown that I look forward to. Is there anyone who prefers their fries to be a limp yellow and white? I'd really like to know. I have found that way too many restaurants fail their french fry final-exam . I have to ask myself how difficult is it to figure that one out? After all, if I owned a restaurant and wanted to know how to make french fries, I would, at the very least, hire a teenager who works at Mickey D's or BK as a business consultant. Finally, do not come here expecting a nice quiet, romantic, evening. This is a loud restaurant/bar. There are families. The bar is packed. The wait staff is attentive, albeit a bit frenetic. Warm and cozy, super friendly, and very busy on a Sunday night after a Bill's game. I'm not sure if it's always like this, but even an hour and a half after the game ended two of us waited for half an hour for a table. The menu is the usual selection of Buffalo favorite.... wings and weck and fish fries..... with lots of sandwiches and entrees as well. We decided to do "sharesies" all the way and ordered an order of chicken fingers medium (yours truly is bone-phobic) as an appetizer, then a crock of french onion soup, and then a sandwich. The chicken fingers were delicious. Big, meaty, and crisp... the sauce was hot enough, but not too hot. They were accompanied by carrot and celery sticks and bleu cheese for dunking. The soup was fantastic. The broth was hearty and not too salty. The cheese was plentiful and gooey, and that which wasn't floating on top of the bread was fun to peel from the sides of the crock. The sandwich, "Fitz's Favorite" (turkey, bacon, tomato and American cheese, grilled between two slices of sourdough bread) was big enough to share. Each third was two-hands large, and quite tasty. It was accompanied by french fries and a pickle spear. The service was great and the prices were fair. This is a definite go-to when looking for a place to eat in the Southtowns. read more
