Easily rated 5 stars!! Everything was simply delicious!! My girlfriend and I came here after a hike on a weekday around lunch time. We were greeted and seated right away, we were lucky (heard this place can get busy)! The ambience was superb! Decorations were aesthetically pleasing and just overall a good vibe! The server presented us with a menu which detailed all the items offered. She then informed us about the QR code to scan and place our orders at our convenience (you can also order with them face to face if you prefer). The menu didn't have the price of the entrees but the online ordering app did. We tried the pork and shrimp dumplings with chili oil, beef chow funn, chicken xiao long bao (not pictured cause it came out last and we were too focused on devouring all the delectable items at this point!!), and the cute custard piggy buns for dessert. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD. The noodles and dumplings are all homemade and you can taste its authenticity!! They also have take out as well. Lots of free parking available! JU Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe blew me away with its incredible flavors and quality. The dumplings were absolutely perfect--thin-skinned, juicy, and packed with savory filling. I wish I took a picture of the dumplings. The bao was soft and fluffy with a delicious, well-seasoned pork filling that melted in my mouth. And the beef roll pancake? Crispy on the outside, chewy inside, and full of fragrant green onion flavor--easily one of the best I've had. Friendly service, cozy vibe, and reasonable prices make this spot a must-visit. Guys, WE ATE. Found this place when my little had a dumpling craving and it hit the spot in every department. Situated in a cute little plaza, parking was easy. Inside, the dumpling cafe was ultra cute and I knew right away they would live up to the hype. Service was fast and friendly. The table setting was just as inviting and neatly presented. We liked ordering from the iPad at our table, simple to use with great photos of each item. The food was authentic and delicious! I would say it is Din Tai level yum! My wife and I have dined here many times in the past. She asked me to pick up some food for her on my way home so I phoned in an order. They don't take credit card for orders less than $20 and I can't so zelle at the moment. I thought I had cash but it turns out I didn't. Suddenly I'm scrambling to hit an ATM, they close at 3, and the guy who took my order is blowing up my phone. Sorry, I'm doing my best here! I was willing to concede that this was all my fault and had planned a large tip for the inconvenience once I got my hands on cash from the ATM until I got the attached text message. This guy is incredibly rude and unprofessional. It is 8:05pm. I just stopped by, dropped off $20 for the food they made but I didn't get, and gave the "acting manager" a letter describing the above and a screenshot. The disgusting creep I dealt with earlier today was there also. They refused to put me in touch with the real owner or manager. The "acting manager" or whatever was just another kid, probably trying to hide this issue from the actual management. But I'm pretty good at OSINT. I'll be in touch with them soon. Edit 9pm: I received a text from them semi-apologizing and saying that they will look into it and implying that their employee would not have spoken to me like this without reason. There is no reason that would justify speaking to a customer like this. Bad judgement all around on their part. I'm pretty sure it was one of the kids at the restaurant texting. Solid 4 if you want that XLB fix! We ordered take out since our daughter wanted dumplings for dinner. We wanted to try Ju Feng with all the great reviews. We ordered via the Yelp app vs the company website since the Yelp app is free and company charges a surcharge. For our order, we spent about $90, which is a little less than what we typically spend for Din Tai Fung. This review compares to DTF since we typically get out take out for DTF. We ordered: -2 Pork XLB: Tasty! Comes with less in an order, but was still as juicy and as filling. My daughter enjoyed it and so did we. -2 Pork and Shrimp Chili Wontons: Different flavor and not as spicy as DTF and definitely not better, but it is good. I enjoyed it and was filling. -Mongolian Beef Chow Mein: A bit greasy, but the flavor is good. There are big pieces of beef and less veggies, which we appreciated. -Sweet and Sour Ribs: Totally tasted like the same sauce as what you would get for sweet and sour chicken/pork at restaurants. Not the same as what you would order at DTF (which we thought it would be similar). Overall, we really liked this place. A few bucks cheaper and better parking! This place ain't DTF but it's decent for Poway. We had a party of 10 adults and came right at 5pm when they opened to secure a table in the back. You scan a QR code at the end of the table to look through the menu and place your order electronically. We ordered over a dozen dishes to share. Their dumpling shells are slightly thicker and bigger than DTF. The juices inside dried up quick. The eggplant was too much of sweet and sour sauce. The pork spareribs had the same seasoning. The beef pancake roll was hard and dry. Spicy wonton in chili oil was mild. The wonton soup were the same dumplings but in soup not chili oil. Everything else was decent and I would come back to satisfy my craving. Service was rather quick. I found it uncanny that they serve water in red solo cups versus reusable glassware. The pork and cabbage dumplings were on the smaller side but super juicy. The pork XLB is not bad too but not as juicy n flavorful as DTF's. The mapo tofu, green beans, and the noodles (cant remember the name) was yummy too, while the eggdrop corn soup was definitely a pass (flavorless). Service is just alright. Been to this place a couple times now and the food and the service have both been incredible with each visit. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly so best to get there early and put your name down so you're not waiting for too long. They have a pretty big menu with a lot of variety to choose from and their dumplings are a must try. I also enjoyed their beef rolls and their noodles are also fantastic. Great find in northern suburbs of San Diego that eliminates my need to drive to Din Tai Fung. Looks like A modest mom and pop type establishment in a random strip mall. You can see the chefs making the soup dumplings in the window. You can scan the QR code to view pictures of the menu items. 95% of the items we ordered were delicious and we came back literally the next day. The soup dumplings were tasty, tender, and delicate. The only thing we found lacking was some stir fry with rice cake and shrimp (pass). Can fit a decent size large party but the dining space is not that big. Decent asian food in the north county. Be warned though that takeout is much different in quality and portions than dining in. Their XLB are decent and acceptable if you don't feel like going to DTF for it. Their dumplings as a whole are decent. If you are living in the north county and do not want to head over to convoy for better than this place will fit the bill. I ordered the pork XLB last time and this time, I ordered the pork with salty egg yolk. The egg yolks were mixed into the meat. They tasted great except no soup in the dumpling. The huge soup dumpling was awesome. It had a lot of soup inside. It was filled with crab and pork meat. The wrapping was very thin and it didn't break. They even have you a straw to drink the soup. Ju Feng Yuan, second date (C+) First date with Ju Feng Yuan was great. Unfortunately, 2nd date was very much downhill. Long wait and getting accused of not responding when called (not possible since I was famished and essentially pay close attention to the greeter's every move), over 30 minutes wait for mediocre food, and the worst chairs ever, I don't think there will be a 3rd date. Sauteed string beans (C+ ) : This was a highlight dish the first time we tried JFY. Given the long wait, I expected fresh from the wok, piping hot, savory yet sweet, crunchy string beans. First bite, a total disappointment. It was maybe a touch over lukewarm but not more. The seasoning was a little light, not too bad, but the string beans were quite overcooked. First date was hot, stiff and crunchy. Second date, cold, soft and limpy. A total let down. Pork spareribs w garlic (B+ ) : The highlight of the night. Freshly fried, steaming hot, savory and crunchy on the outside, juicy meat on the inside. My only complaint - the ribs were somewhat bony. But this was a very good dish, and brought hope to the meal. Beef chow fun (C+ ) : Okay on the seasoning, felt a little oily, but the biggest problem, beef chow fun served not hot enough is like serving nigiri, or beer that's too warm. And the beef, again, well seasoned but the texture was a bit mushy, maybe too much baking soda and simply meat that's not fresh enough. Combination fried rice (B- ) : First bite, super promising. Light, hot, and some nice fragrance from the egg. A few chews in, the rice wasn't cooked properly, much too tough, with quite a few clumps, definitely a no-no for great fried rice. The use of spam was smart, giving little bursts of savoriness. The shrimp tasted light and springy. Ju Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe off of Scripps Poway Parkway and Pomerado offers a variety of dumplings from XLB, shrimp and chicken and colored flavored dumplings as well. Our group ordered the XLB pork, Pan fried pork dumplings, Shrimp & Pork Wonton in chili oil, Fried rice and green beans. The dumplings were great although I felt like the XLB didn't possess alot of soup as you would expect. The pan fried dumplings are similar to that other popular dumpling restaurant though I would have preferred them to be a bit crispier. Fried rice was great and paired well with the sauteed green beans which I would ordered again as they were bright and had tons of flavor. My only comment is that they rely on QR code mobile phone ordering. I know most places have this to cut down on physical menus but the frustrating part was only one person can actually place the order on the phone. That's right, you order on your phone but only one person can send the order. It's great to see more asian dining options opening up northeast of Mira Mesa. Came here with a party of 6 and ordered many dishes to try: Special (colored) XLB Pork XLB Sweet & sour spareribs Shrimp/pork wonton in chili oil Beef noodle soup Combination fried rice Sauteed green beans Mapo tofu Note that the colored XLB are NOT differently flavored (unlike some other restaurants I've been to). Nonetheless, a very cute, fun, and aesthetic dish. I just wish they gave us vinegar instead of soy sauce. I honestly thought the tasty XLB would be the star of the show, but everything else was even better!!! The combination fried rice was so fragrant and well-seasoned that it even appealed to my friend who doesn't normally like fried rice. Shrimp/pork wontons were fat and juicy, slathered in chili oil. As a soup girl, my favorite was obviously the beef noodle soup. It's everything that Formoosa wish it was. Rich beef broth, PERFECTLY chewy and bouncy noodles, very soft meat, well-salted. This was the best beef noodle soup I've had in SD. My least favorite was the mapo tofu but it was still good! I've never been so compelled to post about a place so quickly after trying it, but the food really was that amazing. We paid less than $30 a person, so this place is much cheaper than Din Tai Fung but much higher quality than most other places in SD. I'm so excited to come back here to try more things on the menu!! I was excited to see that 4+ star Asian restaurant had opened up in Poway. Upon arriving at the restaurant I was extremely disappointed. The waiters were not attentive and they spoke with each other louder than any of the customers in the restaurant. When we arrived all the empty tables were still dirty. I found the overall layout of the restaurant was odd as there was a Chinese pavilion table in the center and normal tables lined up against the wall. It just seemed non-cohesive. Additionally if you see red solo cups in the photos - yes, those were the water cups. The food was subpar at best especially for the price point. I did enjoy the Bok Choy ($13.65). However, their Mongolian Beef ($18.25) was chewy but had good flavor. Their Shrimp and Pork Wontons ($12.55) were alright but lacked distinct flavor or spice. The Beef Roll Pancake ($15.75) was lacking in flavor and was extremely dry. I was very excited for the Signature Flavored Stewed Beef Noodle Soup ($15.65) but was once again let down. The beef was not tender, the broth lacked depth and spice, and the noodles/bok choy/beef failed to absorb the flavor of the broth. Ultimately, I would not return to this restaurant unless it improves. As someone who enjoys good Asian food and is willing to make a long drive for it, this restaurant does not stand a chance against those in Convoy. Being in our neighborhood, not having to pay for parking, not having to wait hours at other more well known Dumpling places more than outweighs the value of the other places like DTF and Tasty Noodle House. An unassuming spot out in Poway, but don't let that fool you. The food is excellent here. Everyone knows about Din Tai Fung but maybe you don't want to go through the process of having to get a reservation or waiting in line, or maybe just don't want to deal with UTC parking/vibes. This place does a lot of the same dishes as DTF, including XLB. The XLB are obviously what you're probably coming for. They're big and really flavorful, and come out cooked to order. The skins are not as thin as the ones at DTF but honestly I've never found another restaurant that is. These are like 90% as good though. Their other standout dishes for me are the stir fried black pepper udon and the stir fried rice cakes, which are also similar to the ones you can get at DTF. The sleeper dish here for me though is the tomato braised beef noodle soup. The broth is so flavorful and packed with umami from the tomato. The beef is super tender and the noodles are amazing as well. I come here for this dish frequently. This is a hidden gem imo. If you're craving DTF without the hassle, come here. The tofu was savory and with a mild spice, the fried rice was addictive and the bok choy was fresh and bright. The restaurant is mid-sized, clean and comfortable. The ambiance is casual. Service was attentive with the waiters checking in several times. The 20 minute drive from San Diego is worth it and not spending time finding parking in the Convoy area. Right now is there soft opening with smaller menu, but that doesn't stop us from coming here at least once per week. My favorite item here so far is the Pan Fried Pork Buns! Essentially it's a soft pork bun but the bottom is fried (see picture) Our other favorites are: **** Shrimp and Pork wonton in chili oil (2nd favorite item) * Shrimp, pork and chive dumpling * Black Pepper Beef fried udon The Shrimp and Pork wonton in chili oil has amazing flavor. I end up dipping the rest of my other dumplings in the left over sauce. ITS THAT GOOD I can't wait for them to have their grand opening with full menu in April. So far their food is outstanding. I haven't had a bad food item here. The inside is very nice and clean. The music is also appropriate and peaceful The man running the register and serving tables is super nice and very helpful. He definitely hustles and works really hard. I hope they hire another person to help him out when they officially open. I appreciate that when he gives us our food, he looks at each item to make sure our order is correct before we leave. No one does that anymore at any place I get take out and I appreciate the thoroughness and thoughtfulness to make sure everything is correct. The food is a little pricey. We came before the dinner rush and were seated immediately and were asked what drink we would like. The servers are nice too. We really liked the variety of food that we ordered from here. We got the XLB, and it was good. The skin is a little thicker than I like but overall, there was soup inside and the skin didn't break. Oh, and the flavor was good. We also ordered the pan fried chicken dumplings and those were crispy outside and bursting with flavor inside. It was a good plump dumpling. There is chili oil, vinegar and soy on the table, if you want to make a dipping sauce. We also ordered the green beans and that was just okay to me. The bok choy with garlic was crispy and light in flavor, it's almost like a palate cleanser, which was nice. We also had the popcorn chicken and that had a good crunch to it. Another dish we ordered was the fried rice and it actually had a good amount of toppings in it. It just wasn't all rice. It also wasn't oily. We also ordered the eggplant dish and that was slightly sweet and a hint of spicy, from what I could remember. You need some plain rice to eat it with. And my favorite dish would be the mapo tofu. It had that numbing flavor and it had a great kick to it. It's nice that it comes with plain rice but man, you need more rice than what they give because it's nice to soak up all the sauce. I love it. Two other dishes we ordered were the shrimp and pork wonton soup and pork spare ribs with garlic. The soup had a nice clean broth that was packed with sesame oil and white pepper flavor, among other things I tasted in the broth. The dumplings were plump and had a good amount of filling inside. It was also nice to have some fresh crisp bok choy as well. The pork spare ribs were crispy outside and soft and tender inside. Not a lot had bone and I appreciated that. They top it off with jalapeño, onion, garlic bits and that was good with the pork and rice, all eaten in one bite. The prices are a little on the pricier side. But the portions were fair and the flavor of the dishes we've had were really really good. Oh wait, we also have had the beef roll. And my friends and husband have said that it rivals a decent LA version. So I'll take their word for it. I realize that we also had the cumin lamb, which they said wasn't very game, but you can tell it's lamb. They said it was tender and a good amount of cumin flavor. The cucumber side dish was crisp and had a good amount of garlic and vinegar. At least that's what I tasted. We will definitely come back here again and again. read more

i had this place saved for awhile since i saw a reel featuring it! the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and spicy wontons were super good! the pan fried dumplings weren't very pan fried... i would have liked them to be more crispy so i wouldn't recommend them. the service was a little lacking because they were incredibly busy when i was there. even so, i would still come back to try some of their other menu items and enjoyed the things we got. pricing was kind of expensive for a meal overall, but i would consider it standard for this type of cuisine. i compared the prices to din tai fung, and it is not as expensive as them for reference, but quite close/similar in price. the ambiance is fine, it was very loud inside because the restaurant was packed. parking is ample. read more

Came here for dinner on a weekend with family. Hands down the best XLB in SD! The dough thickness is just right, and the ratio of dough:filling:soup is just perfect. Honestly, this place's XLB is definitely way better than DTF! (Imo DTF wrapper is too thin that doesn't have any chew, the wrapper of a xlb is supposed to have some kind of chewniess in it and thats the beauty of handmade wrapper!) We also ordered: Pickle veg beef noodle soup - 5/5. Love the texture of the noodle. The broth has the right balance of saltiness and spicyness, the pickled veg is not overly sour and the meat just has the right tenderness. Boiled chive/pork dumplings - 5/5. Again the dough has the right amount of chew, the filling is juicy, and the flavor is not too salty/bland. Slight dip of vinegar makes it even better. My senior 80 year old mom literally ate 4 pcs back to back. Piggy custard buns - 4/5. The joke where "it's not too sweet" is the highest phrasing for chinese dessert standard applies here. Lol. My toddler finished 2 by himself and that says a lot. Just wish the size is a little bigger. We also ordered garlic spare ribs (5/5), Sautee brocoli (5/5), pan fried buns (4/5, the outside was little burn), and beef chow fun (4/5). My daughter and I stopped by for a quick bite. We had an appointment nearby and didn't have much time, so we only ordered 2 items to share, the pork & chives dumplings and the spicy pork & shrimp dumplings. These were of excellent quality! The dumpling skin had the perfect texture and wasn't too thick. The fillings were juicy and flavorful. At the time of our visit, the restaurant was in its soft opening phase and had limited menu items available. We look forward to coming back with the rest of our family to explore more great dishes on their menu! The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff were extremely friendly. I'm so happy that I finally got to try this place! My friend and I got three dishes of dumplings: pork XLB, shrimp and pork chili wontons, and pan friend chicken dumplings. The star of the show was definitely the shrimp and pork chili wontons. The sauce is so good. I even dipped the pan fried dumplings into it. The XLB and pan friend dumplings were also great but I liked the pan fried dumplings more. It's all up to preference! Really really good! I love dumplings. My husband likes standard dishes. So we were both happy to get what we wanted. Mongolian beef very tasty. Soup dumplings super yum and one of the best I've had in town (and in China!). Very friendly staff. read more
