Holy guacamole. After a hike up and down the Newport Strand on Sunday with my niece, I ask around for a good juice bar. And I don't want to Robek's or anything like that. I want freshly squeezed, real fruit that I can feel making my body better. One of the local I talked to skaters recommends Jugos up the hill, then allows me to looks this up on his Blackberry, and 10 minutes later we are there. There is something about the place that reminds me of trips when I was with my parents to Mexico, and also about the vendors I remember from my childhood in the old country. Whatever is in the air, despite the annoying Norteno music and soccer on TV, I can already tell this place knows what they are doing about their "freshness". Freshly squeezed OJ for my neice, and I had to pick from juices made from watermelon, guava and other fresh fruits. I take a taste of the papaya juice I just ordered as I drove off. I am so impressed I stop the car, and go back in for another drink. The stuff is that good. Second time I come back to my car, and the skater boys drive up. Something about me having their Blackberry on me still. Haha, no, I nice try, but I'm not that naive. Obviously the kid thinks he's made a connection and wants to press his luck. He and his buddies want to buy my niece and I lunch here. Free lunch, cute boys, new place with someone who seems to know the menu, what the hell? Life is too short to be scared. So he and his crew (who are more fluent than I in Spanish, as I miss most of the slang shoot at the staff) order up some pork tortas, a bowl of broth and chilaquiles. Already my mind tells me this is a mistake and I am thinking that I would've liked something more exotic or original to impress me. We shoot the sh!t, they ask us where we are from and try to be smoothe, and I am thinking of a polite way to walk away. Then the food is brought to our table and have to kick myself for planning to leave. Fresh. That quality that you defines "processed" food from "made right there in front of you with quality ingredients". FRESH is the word of the day. We all shared and mixed food as we talked, the boys surprised that two Asian girls had decent Espanol skills. But you don't wan to read about that, you want to read about the food. Torta de chorizo. Holy moley, that was quite savory. meaty and spicy, without overwhelming the bread and other ingredients. And dipped in the dark red sauce spicy sauce from the chip bar, it was even better. Birria. Goat soup broth. Wow. Just a great chunks of savory meat, rich spicey soup and eaten with corn tortillas you can tell were made FRESH. Chilaquiles. Now I don't know why we don't get more chilaquiles that taste like this at other Mexican food places, but the green chilaquiles with the extra chicken. Crunchy chips, sweet Mexican style fresh chicken, lively green sauce without being too spicy. Beans were a little sweeter than I would like, but the rice and sprinkled cheese were fabuloso! Everything FRESH! The boys obviously wanted a little more than happy smiles and grateful belches of well fed ladies, so we skidaddled and chipped in for the tip for the waitress when they began to get a little too familiar with us. It shocked them when I told them how old I was, and they assumed I was the same age as my niece. I'm not hooking up with kids not old enough to drink (legally) and I am not leaving her there. So next time we are in Costa Mesa, I will remember to run in and out with the food to go, as the young bucks who hang out here are a little to eager to get fresh with us. read more

This place looks weird. But don't be fooled. The menu is orange and the vibes are off. It's incredible! I've tried literally almost every carne Asada taco is Costa Mesa and this tops the list. It goes like this: They take 2, 8in corn tortillas and get them nice and warm and soft. Then they take some meat and put it on the grill or possibly some other greater unknown cooking device and they cool it. This all happens in the back, so it really is a mystery. But as you sit there distracted, thinking about the wonders of Mexican food, you almost don't notice the salsa bar. This bar has many good items. Huge limes! A delicious guacamole sauce in a bottle and this orange salsa. These 3 in combination pair so well I once saw a woman keel over in delight. Sometimes, if you're lucky - and I mean L-U-C-K-Y - the carne is somehow crisped on the grill without making it dry at all! And if you order a juice, and you should, they make it fresh, right there, with real fruit and everything, but they don't just put it in a cup, they bring you the entire blender full of that colorful drink! The ambiance is what really cracked me up about this restaurant. I loved it - made me feel like I was in Mexico. With the yellow/green/red benches and a table of older beer-drinking Latino men beckoning my friend and me in Spanish to come join them, the restaurant felt like a little gem of Mexico in Costa Mesa. (It's in the same strip mall as this really popular taco place, where I had initially planned on going but was deterred by the line that stretched out to the curb.) To be honest, I have no idea what I ordered - I asked the waitress to give me whatever she liked best. A note - order up at the cashier. It was an open-faced sandwich of sorts, made really thick tortilla, topped with beef, lettuce and sour cream ($5). My friend ordered a burrito and mango juice (total $7). The awesome part: the juice was served in a blender. All the other customers were speaking Spanish to each other, which seemed to be a sign of the restaurant's success with the local Latino community. Yeah ...ummm ... the juice here, not so much ... of the squeezed selections there was only ONE fruit option, pineapple. Though the menu indicated that there were several fruits to choose from, there was actually just ONE that day. They had carrot, cucumber, and celery, but just the ONE fruit, who wants all this vegetable juice I ask, who? No one ordered vegetable juice during the entire time I was there. So ok, I'm still wanting a fresh squeezed juice and I'm down for pineapple. So I order two mediums and the bill is a WHOPPING $9! Whaaaaaaaaaat? That's more than Jamba. And what do you get for $9, how about two styrofoam cups full of WARM pulpy pineapple juice with a splash of condensed milk (which I did not ask for). I love love love this place! They have the freshest everything. From their drinks to their food. Nothing seems to dissappoint. Even their staff are friendly. I come here on a regular basis. I order about 30+ Bionicos a week and pick them up early in the morning. They always have them ready on time which i think is important. Whenever i forget to bring a cart they happily provide boxes for everything and always offer to help carry them out to my car. Their Bionicos are fantastic! Comes with a mixture of Strawberry, Mango, Pineapple, Kiwi, Banana, Walnuts, Raisins, and Honey. The fruit tastes so fresh and its an even amount of each. This place was delicious. It's a healthy version of Mexican food, so basically just less greasy. I was uber impressed by the variety of healthy juices and fruit combo salads they had to offer. I had the Anemia and it was absolutely delicious (beets, banana, spinach). The only bummer was that it wasn't blended or juiced with any kind of ice, so it got warm in my hands very quickly. If you are ordering to go, I would definitely ask if they could throw some ice in, or get some from the machine (don't know why I didn't think of that when I was there...oh well). As for the food -- they had a TON of vegetarian options, but not very many vegan or pescatarian options. I am a pesca, so I usually go for a shrimp burrito or fish tacos at most Mexican eateries, but they did not have shrimp. I think they just don't do fish, but that was fine. I tried the vegetarian burrito and it was delicious. You could tell they had freshly chopped and sauteed my peppers, and everything tasted like it was just made. This next thing is definitely not something to complain about, but I want to warn you - the veggie burrito is HUGE. Like HUMONGOUS. I could not even eat half. Of course, I had juice to fill me up too, so I probably just overloaded my belly. My boyfriend got a green juice. It had spinach, kale, green apple, and celery. He didn't like it as much as my Anemia, but that's because he said it tasted "too healthy." haha...I thought it was good, but I will agree, it tasted very healthy. Not like a blended/whipped smoothie from Juice It Up. He also got a huge burrito, but I think mine was still bigger. Came in and was first in line, then this couple came in and literally got in front of us as the cashier, Flor, approached the cash register, she took the other couples order and did not even ask if we were next. Not only do they take too long to give you your food, they don't ever give you what you order. I work down the street and we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but today after I vomited the horrible "breakfast burrito" I purchased there, I felt compelled to write this review. I specifically in Spanish asked the woman what the breakfast burrito had in it and she said "eggs, potatoes, cheese and your choice of meat". Seems yummy right? Well what I got not only tasted like a seafood buffet, but it looked like they literally just threw in everything they had left in the kitchen. My "breakfast burrito" had egg, beans, rice, NO potato but tons of peas and carrots and bell peppers. NOT WHAT I ORDERED. I have told everyone where I work who have also had horrible experiences (being over charged if they're not Mexican) never to come here ever again. read more

I've been searching for an authentic Mexican Hawaiiana fruit salad since I first had one in San Diego three years ago. The Jugos Acapulco one comes close...the fruit was fresh and there was just enough of the heavier toppings for its to be satisfying but not overwhelming. Staff does not give priority to customer satisfaction and has no knowledge of customer loyalty. I am very disappointed because I like the food and drinks but food quality is not constant. Somedays you get impressive meals and drinks but other times they make you feel sick. I started going there because I liked the pineapple drink they made for me. I went many times up until the last two times I visited this place. The drinks did not taste the same as the previous drinks they made for me( who am I to know? I've only been ordering the same drink for the last 4 weeks). I told one of the girls about my drink, she gave me a piece of pineapple and told that there was nothing wrong with my drink. She offer to fix my drink but instead added enough sugar that I was not able to drink it. But this was not the only time this happen because two days before I had the same experience with my drink but i did say anything. So i decided to move on and forget about this place. I am sad,mad, and disappointed, I just lost one of my favorite places where I could get a real pineapple drink. read more

I have heard good things about the restaurant and just last week I decided to go there. The place is nice and I noticed there was a person dedicated to making sure tables were clean and everything being clean/sanitized constantly which makes eating there reassuring. I have gone there 4 times already since last week and I will continue going! The food is great the menu has a wide variety of selections and all looks delicious! This morning I went in to buy a burrito and they greeted me like the last few times. This time I just went for pick up not dining , but I had great customer service and the cashier was so friendly and helpful she also gave me a suggestion on what to add to my order which made my burrito that much better. I tried this place out earlier today. I was surprised at the size and quality of the tacos. I had to carne asada tacos, which were fantastic, and a chicken taco that was out of this world. Its definitively a gem. I also ordered one of their fruit drinks and was surprised when I got the whole blender put on my table. The tacos were great, especially the chicken taco with was topped with cheese and lettuce. At first I wondered about this, but after one bite I understood why it was done that way. Was craving some jugo & tacos de lengua & heard this place was good, so I decided to check it out. Got a pineapple juice, which was delicious! I always forget how much i love it until i have it. :) The tacos were fine... nothing too special. The salsas were good & i think made the tacos much better. However, the customer service is very lacking. The girl taking my order seemed very confused and annoyed that i was trying to get 2 orders on 1 bill. 3 tacos for me & 3 tacos for my coworker. I ordered the first 3, then the second 3, went over it with her and somehow i ended up with 7 tacos! Oh and they also look about 10mins to make my coworkers 1 juice! Juice here is fresh, you can tell. Just make sure to ask for them to put ice when making your drink or it will come out room temperature. There are lots of varieties of fruits and juices, some advertising health benefits as well. Food was not so great, I got the number 1, it comes with eggs and rice.
