Best Japanese restaurant this side of the bay. Sashimi is always fresh and sushi is tasty with excellent presentation. The staff makes you feel at home. Now, if you are going there for a quick meal, skip Thursday nights, because that's where me and my family and friends hang out for happy hour and service can be slow due to the "beer" crowd. If you like to hangout and drink beer while eating your favorite sushi, this is the place. Buying a round of sake bombs is always welcome. If you are a regular there on Thursdays, there is a chance you may have been there when my brother, myself, or a friend bought a round or two for the house. You also may have been there when Jun, the chef, bought a round of sake bombs on the house. I love this place!!! In comparison, my former favorite was Sozo Sushi in Pleasanton. The last couple of times I have been there (Sozo), the place was not kept up as well, the servers were not too friendly and the tables are packed together like sardines. The "hamachi"(yellow tail) there was very good but the "sake"(salmon) and "maguro"(red tuna) was not the freshest. The rice they use to make their sushi is still very good just like the former owner used to flavor it (same chef??). I don't understand why Sozo is so packed with customers, just like Okawa in Antioch is always packed. At least Sozo has decent food. The first time I ate here it was decent, the second time was pretty bad, but under the current ownership I am a fan. The sushi and garnishes are top notch and super fresh. But what I really like is the chef's attention to detail in the presentation. He really puts love into the plating and it makes a huge difference. read more

So disappointed! Ordered the same 5 rolls we've ordered before & 3 didnt have unagi sauce drizzled on top. They were dry. The fish didnt even taste fresh & the rice was dried out. The worst customer service ever! My gf and i dined in and orderes a roll and an entree meal. Took them 20 minutes to bring us soup, 30 minutes for the roll, another 30 minutes later they brought us the check. I told the waitress "um excuse me, my food never came." Her response was oh then walked away with the check. 5 minutes later she came back, drop off the check and said "i took 20% off" then she rudely walked away. On my way leaving i walked up to her and ask "i came here to eat, an hour and half later my food never came and you gave us our check? Thats it? Nothing else" and she said yes thats it. I wouldnt be mad if they would just bring me my food 15 minutes later, ill even pay full price but their message was get the hell out. Worst service ever! read more

My favorite sushi spot to go to in town! They have an all you can eat sushi menu which is awesome when we're really hungry! Customer service is not bad. Had a few visits that were great and some not so much. But I still come back to eat here when I'm craving sushi. read more

The host of this restaurant is VERY RUDE. I am a Door dash driver getting food for a customer. They refused to confirm the order, which if everything is not in the bag , the drivers rating is decreased, not the restaurant. And when I asked for extra soy sauce and wasabi for the customer, she rolled her eyes and excused me and started helping the next customer like I wasn't standing there. Just to let the restaurant know, I issued a complaint to door dash to ban them from their restaurants. Doordash drivers are customers too. They shouldn't be rude to anyone. Wednesdays and Sundays offer all you can eat sushi for $20. Good deal but you have to be hungry. I can only put away one plate but the second I was struggling! My son n daughter had the teriyaki which had so much flavor it was delicious!! The Sushi was just as good n the portions are so great!! The Philadelphia roll was over powered with cream cheese, that's all I tasted, it was like scooping a spoon full in a cream cheese container. Even my roll with sauce on top gave no flavor at all.. and the shrimp tail on my Lucky 7 was inside a roll not out.. i crunched into it... my spicy tuna was spicy but tasted like nothing! The California roll had only a sliver of avocado in it, the New York roll was bland and tasted sour (I spit out one roll and threw away the rest), the tempura was soggy, the veggies were hard and had no flavor. Writing this before I pass out from a food coma... Kind of a when-it-rains-it-pours (literally) situation as everyone was stuck in horrible, rain-induced traffic trying to get to work on this day when they opened at 4:30 for dinner. That being said, first round of applause goes to Mr. Dino from the back for his professionalism and for keeping my wife and I entertained and comfortable while we waited for the sushi chef to arrive. Great job! Once here, the sushi chef was equally professional and took exceptional care of us and our orders. We tried 4 different rolls on this day, and they were all amazing. The standard-issue California roll was amazing; probably one of the most exceptional California rolls we've ever had. The Golden Cali was an amazing fried version and the sauce and sesame seeds added even more to an already amazing dish. The Super California Roll essentially added fresh unagi and unagi-based sauce to the top of the California roll and it was friggin' mouth-watering (my wife's favorite of the four). Finally, the fried Spicy Godzilla roll had just a slight immediate kick to it that was never overpowering (my favorite of the four, I've finally decided). All of the dishes also had a unique quality that my wife and I have noticed many other sushi places don't have, and that is that we CAN taste the fish! For whatever reason, in many many many sushi bars that we have gone to, a lot of times other ingredients in the rolls or even the sauce and other garnishments tend to overpower the fish, but at this establishment the fish was so fresh that you could taste it equally with every other ingredient in the roll. Perfect, and just like the server stated, it really does melt in your mouth! Everyone treated us exceptionally here, from the aforementioned Dino to the chef/owner, to the server, all were wonderful and very pleasant people. The prices were also extremely fair too, with specialty rolls typically in the $7-$12 range depending on amount of prep and ingredients. Worth EVERY penny, no joke! We have three other sushi bars that are within walking distance of where we live (including another on Yelp that is a 4-star-rated establishment). We will gladly DRIVE up Hillcrest on a regular basis to eat here instead. It was THAT exceptional! read more

I was super excited when I heard Kabuki Sushi was reopening. I love a good sushi roll and I have to tell you... these new owners know EXACTLY what they are doing. The service is incredible! The owner and his wait staff are polite and friendly. Not once have they ever been rushed or rude, even when busy. They take time to make sure everyone is taken care of. The food is delicious! The presentation is always top notch, even the to-go orders. I usually have a select "go to" rolls when I go out for sushi, but at Kabuki, I get something new every time. Not once have I been let down. I will say, that I've had the "Never Say Never Again" roll on three separate occasions though; it's THAT good! Kabuki is my new favorite sushi restaurant. Their Lion king roll is soooo good. It's a baked roll with some different sauces and fills me up. I always get a miso soup as well. This sushi spot is one of my favorites, they have all you can eat sushi deals, bento boxes and a large variety of rolls. Went here a few days ago and will never return again. Terrible and slow service! There was a guy with a leaf blower clearing out the side walk in front with the door wide open AT 7pm! The dust and the loud winding of the leaf blower was not cool to hear this late in the day! The bento boxes looked like stir fried Chinese food man! The sashimi looked like it was cut by an eight year old. The sushi rolls were the only thing decent here. I like to dip my sushi in soy sauce and a little wasabi as much as any one else but they don't have the dipping dishes out on the tables due to sanitary reasons which is understandable. I feel the waiters should ask if we'd like upon ordering. I had to get up and walk to the bar to to asks for a few which in return 5 minutes later the gave us 3 when there were 4 of us. I had to wave the waiter down twice to serve me, the first time for water, 2nd time for me to order, in this amount of time time I waited 30 mins, everyone else was getting served, prolly bc I went there by myself. I give them one star bc there's hair wrapped around my carrot, I was so upset. I called them on the phone and they left me on hold for 10 mins, and didn't really care what I had to say. They asked me for my phone number and said they will give me a free meal. I'm not going back. So the short ribs was one strip that they cut up in 4 pieces, then it smelled burnt, but as I was chewing on it, it was tough. I didn't like it, the katsu chicken was perfect. There was a few PCs of California roll provided in the plate, but it was on my veggies, so it soaked up the juice from that and the crab meat fell apar in on Veggies. He informed us Sunday is all u can eat Sushi rolls for $19. My ten year old was all ears at this point. He had the Lion King and 49ers. "Mom! their fish are so fresh and really delicious!" my hubby ordered the vegetable udon he mentioned the broth was very flavorful. My three and six year old ordered the tekka maki and shrimp tempura needless to say they cleaned their plates. I had the cirashi it had varieties of fresh sashimi sooo mouthwatering yummmm! The fresh oysters was so good. This is our new favorite place for sushi. Since than we had diffrent varieties of sashimi and sushi rolls it continues to have that mouthwatering goodness. I have gone here numerous times since under new management. Love the sushi always good when we go. Love the owner so friendly and always tries to take care of us. One thing that has consistently been an issue the last 2-4 times is the service. Feel like there needs to be some organization on who the servers serve and who get orders because they try to talk to every table and some new people get passed up or they never get their orders until 20 mins. They need to work out the kinks in servers/waiters, maybe get an experienced waiter or waitress who has a history of training. Otherwise love this place just needs better servers. read more

We had to point to the items on the menu. Scary! Been here twice and gotten the 49er roll, it was perfect both times, it has just the right amount of lemon. Service is quick and the appetizers I've tried have also been great (shrimp and vegetable tempura and fried gyoza). Very fresh tasting. This is my favorite sushi spot in the Antioch/Pittsburg area. We used to eat wonderful Sushi @ Kabuki Sushi in Antioch on HIllcrest Ave. Since they changed ownership and chefs almost 2 yrs. ago, it has really gone DOWNHILL as far as quality, freshness and taste. Also their prices are very high compared to other Sushi restaurants in the Antioch area. My husband stopped by last Sat. to pick up some Niguiri and 2 rolls; 1 spider and 1 California roll. They were so small, they were only the size of a nickel around and absolutely NO flavor or freshness. Also the rice was very gummy. The Niguiri was not very fresh. I got a serious stomach ache that night from the food. It cost us almost $40 for those small 3 items. What a rip off. I don't know what everyone else is raving about - they must not know what good Sushi tastes like. This is the 2nd time we have tried it since they got new ownership and it is absolutely terrible! We have eaten at many different Sushi restaurants all over the Bay area and overseas and and they should be ashamed to serve that food to a customer. I called to complain and they didn't want to hear it. They said they didn't know what I was talking about. We have had friends who have stopped going there also because the food was a joke. If this restaurant doesn't serve fresh, authentic, reasonably priced Sushi, they will be going out of business very soon. read more

There has been a change of ownership AGAIN! I was so disappointed because last time it was good and hoped they would stay around! This time around we ordered the same bento box with katsu and beef teriyaki and lion king roll and a caterpillar roll. The miso soup came out and usually that is hard to mess up as I even make it at home and it is very easy. This was way watered down and did not have any taste. The bento boxes used to have great salad,but no longer,it had a zucchini,broccoli,lots of onions blend which was overcooked and soggy(basically a Chinese stirfried version). The katsu was only okay-nothing special and slight burnt taste on some of them. The beef teriyaki only okay. The Bento box came with an eggroll which was not good,my dd ate the one potsticker and said that was fine. The Lion King roll was disappointing without the usual sauce mayo/siracha? type of sauce,it had teriyaki sauce instead. The caterpillar roll came out the same with teriyaki sauce over it. Really disappointed as their sushi before was actually good which is rare in this area. It is under Chinese ownership now and although some are able to deliver decent Japanese food still,this one is more leaning towards a Chinese bent rather than Japanese. There are many Japanese restaurants owned by Koreans and Chinese and many do deliver,yet some really don't know Japanese cuisine. Although I have given it great rating before under a different ownership ,now I cannot stand my good name behind this-sorry!
