I ordered the veggie and tofu combo with gyoza and brown rice. Tonkotsu was pretty good. Oh but the veggie tofu? Lets just say the ocean isn't as salty as that "broth" was. Oh man. It was bad. Not too sure why this place has such a low rating. We have been here twice now and each time our service has been stellar. The first time we came, they were out of the pork broth but I settled for miso and really enjoyed it. The second time I ordered over the phone -and they answered immediately. I'm a little dissatisfied. While I paid so little for what we ordered, I was disappointed about food's quality and service. Coming in, we weren't greeted and it's where I noticed that there was a change of employees. Not saying the hostess was rude, but she was lacking in costumer service. We ordered what my boyfriend and I ordered last time we came here, before the health department inspection (which made them close the restaurant due to roaches. Even then, we decided to come back because of the service and the food we had previously). We got the tonkotsu ramen and a California roll. Ramen was excellent, same as last time, but the California roll... There was so little filling; very little crab, and almost non-existent avocado or cucumber. Plus it wasn't rolled properly, so the roll was crumbling when we got a piece, and rice was hard! I understand that you gotta take measures when you have very little clientele (no other costumers came in while we were there), but just lowering your prices isn't gonna help. I don't mind paying for food, as long as I get not just quantity, but quality too. I really do love the ramen, which is why I might come back for take out maybe, but I definitely won't order sushi again and it sucks because I really thought this restaurant was going to be my "go-to". Good ramen. Bad service. Went to the new Olive Dr. location. First off, I am vegan and I typically don't ever have issues ordering vegan ramen. I just ask for veggie broth, super simple. Well their menu has the green V sign (that signifies vegan) so I asked if they use veggie broth. Well he said they add chicken flavoring. I asked for no chicken flavoring please, and he just gave me an odd look and kinda rolled his eyes. Ok so then I ordered the avocado cucumber roll. When I got it it had Mayonnaise. I told him that the menu does not say it has mayo in it, so I asked for no mayo. He gave me another weird looks and asked in a rude way "oh, you can't eat mayo either" (kind of in a mocking way) took it back and was yelling in he back about how "she doesn't want mayo make a new roll she can't have mayo blah blah blah" (I was just laughing at this situation by this point) He comes back with the new roll and mocks me and says "this doesn't have mayo OKAY you can look at it, open and check it, it has NO mayo!" I was just like Okay? Thanks? Just the way he was saying and repeating things was not pleasant. Ramen was tasty. But the service was bad. Looks like my husband ended up posting a review on my account instead of his. Nevertheless, the 1 Star is pretty on point. And I do mean, 1 Star. Some people like to say, "I'd give this 0 stars, but I can't!!!" What's the 1 Star? Restaurant looked clean and the waiter/host was a fibber. I can always appreciate a decent fibber. As my husband stated above and many other reviewers, phone orders are rather nonexistent. Now here's where things get muddy. We received 2 different (maybe both truth? Who knows. Who cares) reasons as to why the phone wasn't being answered. 1. I specifically asked, "Does your phone work or did you guys get a new number?" I was told they're "understaffed, new employees in the kitchen, too many customers. Phone works. We just can't get to it in time." Funny thing... my husband was calling at the exact moment I asked that question. In fact, he called multiple times AS I was standing there asking about the phone. Let's bring some truth into this story. "Understaffed"? I don't think you can claim understaff when you're only waiting on 2 tables. New employees in the kitchen? Maybe. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Phone works? I'm assuming this business TRULY doesn't know about their phone being broken. Nevertheless, an employee responded to my husband. Seems like they've had phone issues for awhile now and the phone doesn't ring or blink to indicate an incoming call. Strike 2. Angry man walks through the door asking about the restaurant being closed. But why so angry, angry man? Well, business hours stated that the establishment closes at 9. First customer was turned away at 8:37, 23 minutes prior to closing. Angry man was turned away at 8:55. Not wanting to serve angry man at 5 until close? I get it! It's late. Staff wants to go home. Blah blah blah. Change your business hours. It's not very hard and you can avoid bad business practice. Ta-da! Icing on the cake? You can hear the host and kitchen staff "who comes into a restaurant 5 minutes before closing and expects to be served?!" Probably every other customer that walks in BEFORE posted business hours close? Just a hunch. Strike 3. This food is garbage. Let me rephrase. This "Asian" food is garbage. I sure hope that no one pops their ramen cherry here because you're not really getting ramen. You're just getting soup labeled as ramen. The tonkatsu did not taste like it was simmering all day, as it should be. It tasted like water, pork cube, and salt. The noodles were decent. Shio was extremely bland. Chicken Katsu and pork katsu was good, but they seem to have forgotten the traditional sauce. I don't know if they have it and forgot or just don't have it in general. Fried rice... I was able to throw that back into the pan at home add more garlic, eggs, sauce, etc and make a better dish out of that. The fried rice clearly wasn't cooked long enough. But what can I say? I was a customer that ordered food 33 minutes before closing *insert sarcastic shoulder shrug here* As for the curry, it was ok. I think my husband gave it more credit than it deserved though. What was the best thing here? The salad DRESSING. NOT the salad. The salad had looked like it had been sitting there since last night. I'm so sorry I didn't get a picture for you all. Excellent! The servers are friendly and helpful, especially if it's you're first time dining here. The ramen was incredible. We tried the soy sauce ramen and the salt ramen, both were so amazing. And the price is great! You get a lot of food for your money. We also tried the gyoza which are just potstickers, and they were amazing too. I'd also like to add that our service was VERY fast. I told me daughter I saw on yelp they liked to play Rap music but that had changed since i guess nice soft instrumental music playing today. Decided to try out the Vegetable Gyoza for a starter and they were very good. My daughter commented that she missed potstickers since going vegetarian. Having read previous reviews I decided to go with the Tonkotsu (Pork Bone) Ramen with the Kamisama toppings and my daughter went with the Vegetable and tofu ramen with hard boiled egg, spinach, garlic and scallions. The wait was not long and the Ramen was delicious. Not really a fan of seaweed but the flavor of the ramen complimented everything very well. I tried my daughters ramen also and liked the flavor of the both. If you're looking for a nice little quiet spot to have lunch or dinner I'd suggested this place. Although the menu was pretty small, the food was full of flavor and filling. I've been to this location twice and tried the veggie and tofu Ramen soup, the egg rolls, garlic rice, miso soup, and spicy noodles with beef. Each time I went I had a little wait for the food, but it was worth it. The food was always fresh and steaming hot when it came out. The servers were kind and very attentive. The only suggestion I have for this place is maybe get a beer and wine license. A nice cold alcoholic beverages would be enjoyable during the wait for the food. read more

Wow! Finally a ramen place in Bakersfield. On my way home this afternoon after my son's soccer game I nearly crashed my car when I saw the "ramen" sign. I was in shock and overwhelmed with excitement. All afternoon this new discovery was simmering in my brain. After taking my boy trick or treating, I bid farewell to my family and set my course to the new joint I've been craving good part of my day. Strong reviews and mouthwatering pictures. I was excited. I felt 830pm was a bit late for Bakersfield standard for eating out but my wife convinced me this was Saturday night and it'll be well worth it. At this point nothing is getting the way of my quest for a hot bowl of ramen... except the place was closed! What a disappointment it was. It isn't over Kamisama. Came here on a cold rainy night. Hubby and daughter wanted some Ramon. It was ok. I liked the food, but I don't think I have to come back again. There wasn't anything that made me say "I love this..." the servers do have to work on service as work, or want a busy night but it did take them long to take our order and when we were done, it took forever for our check. took a bit long for our hostess/server to take our food order when we were ready... she relayed it to another person to take over and we were the only table that wasn't ready to go. tipping is prepaid i think; the check already put in about 20% on the bill, so we over tipped the server/restaurant (didn't realize it till i left) food was decent enough, but noodles looked more instant than authentic, but tasted not instant. The guy checked on me a few times but then I think forgot about me, my drink was half ways and still no check up. My cup ended up empty for a good while. At the end of my visit he did refill me with a to go cup that made up for it. The atmosphere could use some work. I felt like it was just to plain. The big windows cause the restaurant to be hot. Although I was hoping that the soup would make me feel better. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen (Soy Based) Soup: I can definitely taste the soy, probably a bit too much Toppings: Ramen already came with scallions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots and chashu pork. This place has got to be the most awkward place I've ever eaten at. We were the only ones at this restaurant eating it was super quiet. They need music in here. To make matters even more awkward the guy that was serving us was sitting across from us eating some some cool ranch Doritos and staring at us the whole times were eating. Best soup in town! I've been to both locations and the olive drive location is the newest one, with faster service. Definitely get the garlic fried rice. Its bomb. The service is more speedy and the food comes right away. The manager is a little creepy though, he'll stand and stare at the customers waiting for a reason to come to our table, not to mention his awkwardness when he comes to a table. 1. The Layout- What were they thinking? It looks like a maze in there. Where you pay is so awkward because it's a high bar with a fishtank in front, you can't even reach to pay! 2. This review is based on service only. Food is fantastic- thus the frustration in my review. After calling the restaurant 5 times over the period of 30 minutes for a simple to go order, I thought maybe they're closed.. can't be..craving ramen, I finally got in my car and drove to the restaurant to find that they were indeed open. I placed my order and asked if something was wrong with their phones. Simple answer is they unplugged the phone due to being "busy" and "understaffed". Staffed with 2 servers, 2 chefs, and a manager on a Thursday at 8:30pm. This irritated me as I read a few of the other reviews on here and people have experienced the exact same thing. This is an UNACCEPTABLE business practice. I hope the owner reads this and figures out how to manage their staff differently and doesn't continue to run off their loyal customers. read more

I got a chicken teriyaki bowl, and an order of shrimp tempura. The chicken was disgusting. The garlic fried rice was very heavy and stuck together. The shrimp tempura was not good either.
