Always happy with my Ramen when I come here. So far tried the Tonkatsu & Shoyu Ramen. Both were very tasty and will definitely order again when I come here. The ramen bowls come with the basic toppings and you have choices to add special toppings. I always love to load my Ramen with more toppings! I also liked their rice bowls. They can be shared if you have a smaller appetite. The garlic rice was delish and something I would always get if I order their bowls. It's all worth the extra cost in my opinion. *UPDATE* Tried again and was very happy with the service *OLD* The food is absolutely delicious. Hits the spot. Definitely something you'd want on a rainy day or when your under the weather. The service could use some bettering. The girl came to take our order too soon and then can back pretty quickly (my husband was looking at Yelp to see what he wanted) so I asked for a minute. After a few minutes of looking we closed our menus and waited. The girl was zoned out for a while, then took a walk-in's order, then another employee walked in and i gave her the benefit of the doubt because I thought they were switching shifts but they weren't. They stopped and chatted for a bit. Finally after about 10 minutes she looked up and finally saw me and came took our order. Later on while we were eating the employees stood around and chatted and giggled quite a bit. (Not a big deal but it's a small place so its distracting and takes away from the atmosphere) That being said, my husband said this was his top three favorite foods he's ever eaten and he was thoroughly impressed with how good the food was. Foods very good, service is mediocre, and good luck if you call and want to place an order over the phone for pickup, because the employees on Calloway actually answer the phone about 30%-40% of the time. So I drove to the business to place my order since they never pickup the damn phone. After ordering, I called the business and the phone rings at the point of sale, but the ringer is so low that if an employee is not standing close by they won't hear it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had similar circumstances. Hopefully, this Yelp will be read by management and activate the lightbulb! read more

First time eating here at the Olive drive location, and the food was super tasty! The waiter was very friendly and talkative, and very understanding/accommodating. I didn't know the main broth had pork in it, which I can't have, and he took the dish back and remade it right away! I felt bad, as I hate to ever send food back, but it speaks to a restaurants character when they're willing to go that extra mile. Portion size was huge, and the dish was incredibly tasty. I'm always eager to try a new place in Bakersfield. Especially since the old restaurant at this location was terrible. There's a lot of good pho in this town but not ramen. This is far from the best I've had, but it isn't terrible. It's just meh. The broth was reasonably flavorful and the portions decently sized. The hard boiled egg was boiled into oblivion. The service was not spectacular considering it was 2 servers and about 10 tables. Decor is homemade (doesn't matter to me but it's a thing). Wrote an excellent review about two years ago, but something happened between them and now. Maybe it was just a bad night, but tried calling for take-out and no answer, tried calling about 5 times and each time the phone just rang. Boyfriend went to just order to-go there, and he still hasn't got his order and has been waiting an hour and ten minutes. Sounds like the problem is being understaffed. I'm not sure why he's even waiting, because a wait like that for Pho on a Sunday night is ridiculous. I get that it's an off-night, so maybe that's the problem, but if they can't handle the customers that are there, maybe management should take notice and try better in the future. read more

I am eating here at this moment and this food is damn good. I have tried everything in my bowl together and separately, and not disappointed at all. So I will tend to say that the negative reviews are due to someone either having a bad day or lack of tastebuds. My husband (a big ramen lover) has been dying to try this place out. he ordered the pork bone ramen with an added egg while I had the unagi rice bowl. Both waiters were quick to seat us and get us our waters. I had asked for more sauce for my rice bowl and it comes to find out, the sauce was just teriyaki sauce. Kinda bummed me out when I thought it was a special sauce just for the unagi. The waiter recommended mixing everything in the bowl so that I get a bite of everything. Tried it and liked it. As to my husbands ramen, it was alright for him. In his words "there's room for improvement" the broth was flavorful; his thing was "if this is a ramen shop, the place should smell like a ramen shop". His one complaint was the egg, he is used to having the soy sauce marniaded egg with a soft boiled egg. Overall, we will give it a few months and definitely try again. Don't let us down!! read more

The waiter was excellent and friendly. Asked for advice on how to look at the menu and he was glad to help me understand the menu and showed me the top recommended choices. I got the beef broth and he got the soy sauce broth. Both too me were salty and overpowered with the taste of salt instead of enjoying the mix of flavors. The ramen comes with pork I decided to add chicken to mines however though. I believe the ramen was over cooked. The chicken and pork was dry. The chicken prices were to thick and extremely chewy. Disappointed with the taste of the food. My ramen also lacked bean sprouts. the service was great the food was ok. It was supper cheap though $10 a plate so you get what you pay for sometimes. I'm new to Bakersfield and I truly enjoy Asian cuisine. My dish was overly salty and after calling over three times and getting a busy dial tone each time, I had to go up the the restaurant to place an order to go. It wasn't the most pleasant experience. I'd seen reviews indicating that this establishment was under new management and had pretty much gone down in approval, but I am all for making my own informed decisions. I love this restaurant by all means, it has become one of mine and my families favorite place to eat and we have been going since it opened, we have dined in a few times but mostly order to go, I've noticed each time the portions they give have been getting smaller and smaller but we continue to go because we enjoy the food, but tonight we all got miso soups and the juice container was not even half full, there's was not even enough to fill up my container with the noodles in it. My daughter and her fiancé took me here to show me how great their ramen tastes! Yes... the ramen was great! Now the reason for the 2 star review. Our young waitress tried her best with what she had to work with!! She was the only person there besides the cook. We were served 'iced tea' with no ice. She said that they were out of ice except for the ice she couldn't reach!? Huh?!? No one to help her?!?! Why is she there by herself!? We ordered our Ramen and one person in our party ordered a bento box with teriyaki chicken. The order was taken then our sweet waitress came back (after about 10 minutes) to tell us no bento boxes are available. So we ordered a katsu chicken rice bowl. She came back again and guess what ?!? No chicken available!! So, we ordered the pork Katsu . It was a boring dish with no vegetables. Our 4th person really didn't like her awkward meal. I was very excited for this meal and was quite disappointed with all the hiccups in our experience. The food was good except the Katsu issue. I am unhappy with the selection of food that was not available. The ramen was yummy. My daughter said that this place is unreliable for food. Sometimes it's awesome but others it's as above. Went here last night with my family and the food was okay. My husband and my sister ordered the tonkotsu ramen and it wasn't anything spectacular. Wouldn't order again. A few of us ordered rice bowls- some with garlic rice and another with white rice. The garlic rice is a must!!! It is so flavorful and good to the last bite! My mom ordered the udon noodles and it was pretty spicy. Good, but you'll have to be okay with the heat. It was a Saturday night and the place was empty, which was not what I expected. The atmosphere was not what I expected either... it was very cold and the music wasn't in line with the overall theme of the restaurant. My husband and I went here for lunch today and it was my first time having ramen. I got the Shoyu Ramen with Kamisama toppings (braised pork, eggs, seaweed, butter) and my husband got the Pork Bone Broth Ramen with fresh garlic and seaweed toppings. I was thrilled to see a place dedicated just to ramen here in Bakersfield! This is a cuisine I truly miss from the city, and with the cold weather in full effect this winter, last week was a perfect time to try Kamisama out. I felt like I was stepping into a whimsical hybrid of Chinese and Japanese worlds when I walked in. You'll see the Chinese lucky cat on a shelf before your eyes find the Japanese chochin lanterns hanging from the ceiling. A peek at the back page of the menu gives you some insight into this curious combo: ramen's origins are attributed both to China and Japan, depending on the story you're familiar with. My Western palate grew up with the stovetop stuff, and it has taken me some time to enjoy the more authentic aspects of ramen: the slow-cooked broth with a distinctive mouthfeel, the soft-boiled egg, and all the accoutrements that just don't come with the packaged stuff. You'll find all of this at Kamisama, served up with some great service - that doesn't hesitate to accommodate when you ask for "ungodly amounts of fresh garlic", one of my favorite things about ramen! There are a couple of improvements I'd suggest, which echo what others have said here. Being able to enjoy fresh noodles is one of my favorite things about authentic ramen. The noodles in my soup felt like they had been sitting in the broth for a little too long, making them feel a little mushy. It's also been quite some time since I had a dish that came with the distinct flavor of MSG. While this had less of an impact for me than the noodles did, it was definitely noticeable and took some getting used to. But other than that, Kamisama is a welcome addition to the Bakersfield ethnic food scene, and I can only hope that it gets more notice as it continues to evolve and improve. read more

First visit. Got the tonkotsu since that's been a staple meal for years...pretty good. Felt almost like home. Will have to try more the next time around but at least I know I don't have to drive deep I to LA for good ramen. Edit - came back to try out the rest of the menu. Ordered the shio ramen... It was "less than good"... Very bland. No flavor. The garlic fried rice matches its name. That's about all I can say about it. The teriyaki chicken wasn't exactly what I am used to. It's like they made chicken with no marinade or seasoning, then poured teriyaki sauce over it. I've never been a big ramen fan in the past, probably because there was no place close by to try it out, but WOW - I love this place. My husband and I have had lunch there on the weekend several times. We were seated right away and the server was tableside before we could blink. The menu was explained in detail and the server seems happy that we asked questions and for recommendations. I ordered a ramen noodle bowl - without any extras - so that I would have a baseline. The first time I had this place I was not very satisfied but I decided to give it a second try and it was okay but it is not the best ramen I've had. I ordered the miso ramen and I wasn't a huge fan of the broth because I felt it was too salty for my taste. The toppings were extra and they were fine. This place is the best Ramen I've had in california. The quality of broth is off the chart! Wow! That is how I'm going to choose to start my review!!! Having never had ramen that didn't come with dehydrated noodles and a season packet my mind was blown that ramen could be this good. If you asked me before trying this place I would have described ramen as the thing you eat when you are a broke college kid. This place has truly changed my mind. I will say that I have never had ramen in a restaurant so that may make my review a little one sided but I think I tried it from a place that is getting it right. Upon my first visit I went in with lots of different recommendations from friends on what to try. I love how you can customize each bowl down to the broth, meat, and toppings so no two bowls are the same. The waitress was helpful and promptly got us some drinks. She even helped us pronounce some of the names of the items. The other gentleman that brought out our food also came back to check in on us to see how we liked it. I decided on the miso broth and my toppings (besides what it comes with) were the corn, crispy chicken, and boiled egg (something I was told was a must try even though I found it to be odd). Let me say it was so delicious. The chicken stayed crispy even after sitting in the broth for a bit. The broth and noodles were perfect and guess what????? that boiled egg was the added richness that made it that much better. Oh and I also want to add that my husband and I decided to make one bowl of ramen a combination and added the chicken gyoza and garlic fried rice. The gyoza was great and OMG the garlic fried rice was to die for. OK, this place is really good... I just have to start with that! I was having a craving for ramen, I have lived in the bay area for a decade and I'm used to having access to it anytime day or night. This place could rival any of the best noodle houses in San Francisco! It is as good as anything that I have had in Japan town, even as good as that place where they make the noodles in the window! they obviously care about the ingredients they use, everything was fresh and perfectly done, especially the egg I had them add in. I probably would've added more cashew pork because I am a piggy myself, but the portions are huge and a double order isn't really necessary. And here I thought ramen was that stuff that came in a square with little packets of flavor. I've been duped! Luckily, Bakersfield has finally got a restaurant devoted to the food phenomenon, ramen. Like pho, ramen has made it's way into white people's homes everywhere. Who wants chicken soup when you can have ramen? The broth is amazing on a cold day. It's rich, hearty, and full of flavor. It's much bolder than some pho's. But really, there's no comparison. The noodles were the perfect consistency. The roast pork had a little more fat than I would like, but I could have eaten around it if actually looked at what I was eating instead of scarfing it down. Overall, I'm stoked there's a place in town dedicated to ramen. And I think there's plenty of foodies out there that will agree. read more

As a little boy I was brought up eating the store packaged Top Ramen as many of you are probably familiar with. And when I found out that a place in Bakersfield opened doing Ramen I was ecstatic and last night I was able to finally visit Kamisama Ramen. Now before anyone attempts to tell me that Top Ramen is not the same, trust me I know and knew before hand. The offerings for the Ramen are SHOYU RAMEN (Soy), SHIO RAMEN(Salt), MISO RAMEN (miso), TONKOTSU RAMEN (pork) and VEGETABLE & TOFU RAMEN (veggie) and all come with the basic toppings of green onions, bean sprouts and such. But you also have the option for Special Toppings like garlic, boiled egg, kamaboko and some meat. Now my wife (Maricel P.) and I shared a Tonkotsu Ramen but added the Kamisama Toppings which are boiled egg, pork, nori and spinach. When this bad boy was served up in front of me, my mouth just watered up like a waterhose in the summer. The aroma was amazing and you can tell it had such deep flavors. We also ordered Yakisoba to share, my wife loved it as I was ok with it, not huge on the flavor. I just went back to the ramen instanenously! We also ordered calamri and shrimp, both are tempura and came with really good sauces to pair with them. But I cannot speak on the ramen enough, if you grew up eating Top Ramen or just love noodle soups, you cannot skip this place at all! The service wasn't too slow but it wasn't fast paced, I think overall it suited well for our dinner. We did have to request refills towards the middle of the dinner but after that the waiter kept an eye out on our glasses. I absolutely loved the ramen and will be back probably several times next year to try the other ramen and dishes because they do offer some rice bowls and a limited menu on sushi too. If you have not tried Kamisama Ramen or had a bad experience, keep in mind they are improving and will get better. I have to give this place 2 stars. one star is for the great customer service and the other star is for the nice restaurant. The other 3 is the ratings of the food. Which was bad. I've had Way better food. Their calamari tasted like old oil used. I really didn't like their teriyaki with rice, you could microwave something better. No change with the service, this time it just got worse! We literally waited at least an hour for our food. We did not order anything complicated....just soup. Why is it too long to wait? I know it's not fast food, but man they have to keep up with the crowd. If you're hungry do not come here because the wait will make you grumpy. When you wait atleast an hour for your food, you noticed everything. Like what happened to me: 1) They served my hubby iced tea with a table spoon of ice. It's more of room temperature tea 2)Their server was using napkin to clean the tables, he kept on coming back to grab more napkins that it took him atleast 3 minutes to clean a small table, not a good use of time especially when people are waiting to be seated. 3) Lastly, the guy who was taking the orders and running the dining area looks like he was so stressed and over worked that I want to stand up and get orders for him. I'm not picking on them just to be mean, I'm actually easy to please. This is not my first visit here, unfortunately I had the same experience the first time I came here. This visit is more of giving them a chance to redeem themselves. Well, it didn't work out like I was hoping. The reality is this, when you open a restaurant business you have to anticipate your success. Because thats ultimately your goal. In order to do that, you have to provide good food and service. You always have to remember your customers; they come to your place to eat, spend their valuable time and pay with money that they worked very hard for. You have to make sure that It's a service business, so you have to cater to your clients time and money. I feel like my time was wasted here. The food is good but not that good that I have to travel 30 minutes to get there and wait an hour on top of that to get my food.
