I have been searching for a classic donut shop in Austin for years... and this is it! I find most of the "old school" donut shops in Austin have only one type of base with different frostings, glazes and toppings. But KC has great variety... old-fashioned, fritters, raised, filled, etc. and kolaches. They are fresh, flavorful and very reasonably priced. read more

So i just went here for the first time and my mind is blown!! How did I not realize this place was in my neighborhood and so amazing! I mean as far as regular donut shops this is. as. good. as. it. gets.... really! I promise. Going forward I will drive the extra couple of miles to go here instead of the other place closer to my house. I went in here this morning to buy donuts for the office and I told the girl that I wanted a dozen glazed and a dozen chocolate and then just a mixture of whatever to get me to my $25 mark. I ended up getting 3 dozen donuts for $22.50 ... not bad at all!! They also have gorgeous looking kolaches and breakfast tacos that I look forward to trying on a future visit! The donuts were so fresh and warm! I had a glazed donut and it was the best glazed donut I have ever had! It was so warm and fluffy. So good I had to eat a second one! I've come here twice now in the span of a couple weeks and have to say that KC makes some of the best donuts I've had. Their glazed donuts are big, pillowy, and delicious. The same can be said about their glazed donut holes. In terms of size I'd guess that these glazed donuts and holes are about 50% larger than your standard Krispy Kreme equivalents. So it depends on what you prefer. I for one like this puffier style of donut. I also had to try an old fashioned donut (with chocolate glaze) because they looked so perfect behind the glass. I, unfortunately, have a "thing" for donuts. I love them. There are really good donuts... and there are bad, dry, flavorless donuts. Well, KC is in a category all by itself and I'm lucky enough that they're close to where I live!! Omg... get the blueberry donuts... FULL of blueberries! Everything we ordered was fabulous! These are GREAT tasting donuts. I have moved and have not found any donuts to measure up to these. Unfortunate for those others I have tasted--I do not go back. I actually spit out these others. And unfortunate for me, my taste buds are accustomed to these good donuts that I have not found one that I can enjoy in my new location. The cake blueberry is my favorite and I think they should consider them their specialty. Also the maple bacon ones are like donut 'crack". I prefer cake but the raised were also quite tasty. So this morning the wife decided she wanted to go out for donuts, and when your wife is 20 weeks pregnant, you don't say no to a food craving. We usually frequent Shipley's, but fearing the Sunday after-church crowds, decided to consult Yelp for some alternatives. Lo and behold, KC Donuts popped up with rave reviews. Turns out they were well deserved! The donuts are delicious - superior to Shipley's, in my opinion - and the donut holes are absolutely MASSIVE. I wasn't feeling the donut craving, so I went for a bacon, egg and cheese croissant and came away extremely satisfied. I'll definitely be going back, and would go so far as to say KC Donuts has just become our donut haunt of choice. Looking forward to sampling the kolaches and breakfast tacos, too. read more

For lack of better options due to my kid waking up past noon today (yeah she wasn't feeling good) and me trying to be super mom.. She woke up and asked me for donuts. Our closest shop was closing, so this was the next best bet. I find it interesting that a shipley's is across the street.. Direct competition. The selection for almost 1:30 pm was good... But the and made my kid happy. I got a sausage and cheese Kolache, and tried a chocolate frosted donut. The Kolache is about average. Nothing overwhelming about it. But the frosted donut is greasy to the point my hands are covered in it. I didn't know donuts could be greasy... Which makes yelping hard to do.. Good tactic KC Donuts.. But yeah... Not a fan of crispy donuts. Not sure why anyone would like them that way.. I'll stick to the other shop we go to unless my kid is sleeping in. read more

Once again, this is the best donut place in Austin. They make magic happen when they get up at 3 am and roll out the dough. My daughters will clean their rooms for a chocolate donut with sprinkles and a couple of their HUGE donut holes. These things look like props from "Honey I Shrunk the Donut but not the Hole," if it were a movie which it is not but should be. They also have delicious made to order breakfast tacos. So so so good. My daughter refuses to eat eggs, so the owner made her some eggless wonders which she loved. Really, you need to try this. I'm going to give you 5-stars simply on the fact that they make great traditional glazed donuts. And my goodness, should you see the size of their glazed donut holes. If was a little kid, my mouth would be wide open in excitement when you see them put a fresh batch out for the taking. Not only do they make donuts but they have all the traditional breakfast sandwiches and kolaches. Their dough is tasty and they'll warm up your croissant sandwiches. Their breakfast tacos are OK but nothing special but your eyes are so big when you go in that you have to try everything. I'll be coming back to indulge in their glazed donuts again. They rival the Shipley Donuts in Houston on Ella (if you go to Houston, it's the only one that looks like it's from 1920). When they are fresh, they are shiny, fluffy and melt in your mouth devouring. It's pretty much hilarious that it's right across the street from a Shipley Donuts on Brodie. Great local donut shop with lots of extras! It says it all on the sign: kolaches, tacos & croissants KC Donuts. There was a line out the door when we approached, always a good omen. The shop was well staffed and we didn't have to wait long to get breakfast. Our order: Croissant with egg, cheese and ham, croissant stuffed w/ ham, cheese and jalapenos, an old fashion donut and a cake donut. Everyone was pleased with their choices and all was delicious! They'll make you fresh sandwiches if they don't have out what you want, and I wanted jalepenos. FANTASTIC! Yea, all their pigs in blankets and kolaches ( klobasneks really) are very good, but that sandwich was over the top. One of those places you don't want to tell people about because it's great and you don't want a 15 minute line next time you go. I placed an order here for my daughter's birthday party, and although the donuts tasted good, I cannot say the same about the service. I received MANY recommendations for KC Donuts so I figured I'd go with them for the donuts for the party. I stopped by their shop to place my order and was very clear on exactly what I needed: 3 dozen glazed donut holes, and 1 dozen regular sized donuts (I was specific on the amounts and flavors I wanted within this box of 1 dozen. For instance, I wanted 2 maple bacon, 2 boston cream, 2 sprinkled, etc.). The employee taking my order showed me the paper he was writing on to confirm he wrote it correctly. Everything looked great. We also set an exact time for pickup the next day, and I gave him my phone number so there was no confusion. When we arrived the next day to pickup our donuts, they were not anywhere near ready, and the employees were confused and disorganized. Granted, the line was out the door and they were having a busy morning - I get it. However, our order should have been ready regardless. We had to wait for them to get our order together, which caused stress on us as we had an early morning birthday party and needed to get back home to set up. Once we finally did get home with our donuts, we realized that the order was not even correct. Our box of 1 dozen large donuts only had 10 donuts in it. The donut holes tasted great and we received the correct amount. The larger donuts were not very fresh tasting. Average. Overall, I wouldn't place an order for pickup with them again. For a quick in and out breakfast I'm sure they're great, but they need more organization before I place a larger order with them again. read more

Flakey croissants made in house are the base component of their breakfast sandwiches ($3.95) - ham, bacon, or sausage. If they're completely out of croissants sandwiches in the donut case, they can make a fresh for you if you have time to wait. You can't go wrong with any of their donuts, guaranteed freshness DAILY; that is the standard they've continued to uphold, which will always keep you coming back for more. This little donut shop is one to check out! They have simple donuts, coffee and kolaches and in the mornings they have breakfast tacos. It's nothing fancy, but the glazed donut holes are a must. I get those, the jalapeno kolaches and an iced coffee for the group. Inexpensive, they are fast with service and always friendly. My favorite donut place in Austin! Everything I've had has been delicious. What I love most is that the donuts are never too sweet! Quality of donuts and service are getting bad. Most of the time they don't have half of the donuts.

If I want a sit down, fork and knife donut, I go to Gourdough's. But, if I want something I can take with me, or bring a dozen on the road for my friends, I go to KC Donuts. I don't consider myself a donut expert, but I have eaten at just about all of the donut shops in Austin, eat donuts at least 1-2 times a week, and have had my appendix removed because of my obsession with donuts. So, I can certainly say I enjoy donuts. These are the best donuts in Austin. No competition. Once, I came in to get a glazed sour cream cake donut and they only had a non-glazed one left (it was after 12pm - I was lazy). No surprise that the woman behind the counter offered to glaze the cake donut for me on the spot. And glaze it she did. She poured nearly the entire container all over that one donut, making me the happiest man in Austin. All of the donuts are light, fluffy, and out of this world.
