Been coming since I was a kid and while it did have to upgrade, the food and service are currently lacking. New clam chowder recipe is ok (old was awesome!) but why switch to such tasteless, dried out bread? The old sourdough dipped in the chowder was half the reason to come and tbh the magic is gone, along with cosy booths replaced by high bar tables I see older folks struggle to use. The high prices were justified by the previous chef's food, but not anymore. read more

Went to HMB for bday outing. Upon a suggestion we decided to have lunch here. The fish & chips were cod so I chose them. A Dungeness crab sandwich (grilled) and a clam chowder bread bowl was also in our groups choices. The fish was very fresh and perfectly battered. Everything was tasty. Service was great. My husband and I had a long overdue night out yesterday, and we both agreed that Ketch Harbor Pub is our new go-to spot! Everything was on-point--from the attentive and friendly servers to the delicious food. My husband had the fish and chips, which he declared some of the best we've ever had, and I enjoyed perfectly cooked salmon that was simply tasty. We capped off our meal with a delightful pumpkin cheesecake that we really enjoyed. The atmosphere was chill, unpretentious, and relaxing, truly checking all the boxes for a wonderful dining experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Omg this place is gross.. ordered the fish and chips which had absolutely no seasoning nor flavor at all! Came with a 2oz side which fit exactly in the spoon of coleslaw so 1 bite. Also ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich which was all bread, hardly any meat, under cooked bell pepper and sliced orange kraft cheese!! The fries with both meals were good. The staff was amazing! We have two little boys and if you got little kids you know how hard it can be for them to wait in line for a table to be ready. They were able to get us seated pretty quickly but then realized we were in an area reserved for a party later. They felt terrible and then the owner David stepped in and got us seated at their nicest table, "The Captains Table"! We plan to go back and try other items in the menu. Give it a chance. Tables are very close inside making it difficult to talk quietly. We ate many many times at the old Ketch, and were so disappointed when we recently placed a to go order at the new Ketch. Our order was not ready when they said it would be, and so we waited. And waited. And waited. We checked in 3 or 4 times with the woman at the concierge. She was super unhelpful, had an attitude, just kept telling us it would be a few minutes, and didn't even bother to check on our order until I insisted that someone do so. Then she said the kitchen had made a mistake and it would just be "a few more minutes." Long story short, we waited for 40 minutes PAST the time they said it would be ready, and close to an hour after we placed the order. All of this on a weekday afternoon when the place wasn't busy. Had she bothered to check when we first arrived to pick it up (instead of continuing to chat with her buddy), she would have known there was a mistake, and she could have corrected it sooner. The service here is a far cry from the old Ketch, where people were nice, friendly, and on it. The manager came out as we were leaving and apologized, but it was too little too late. read more

First, the service was wonderful... if that weren't the case, the review would have been one star. And my wife's fish tacos were fine. In short: Avoid the "veggie burger". It was a tasteless slab of lukewarm slime the consistency of mashed potatoes. It kind of slopped/oozed over the edges of the bun. I managed to choke down half of it, which I probably should not have based on how I felt later. The sad part is that the patty is made in-house from quinoa and beans. There are many commercial veggie burgers--Gardenburgers and Boca Burgers, just to name two-- that would undoubtedly be less work for the staff and more pleasant for the customers. I don't know how the food was. I was looking for something else, but it's under renovation and it's turned into a touristy yucky spot. It's very pretty though but it's turning for something else and it's losing it hometown field now it's kind of like a tourist trap it used to be good, but under this management is not going in a good direction. For a fish spot, your fish and chips are pretty mid. I ordered the fried seafood combo and honestly, it was OK at best. The batter was soggy and i honestly would rather eat the fries since they had more seasoning than the fish. The combo came with scallops, shrimp, and cod and the shrimp was the best part of the entrees. My friends and i also ordered their clam chowder and that was pretty bomb. According to my friends, the linguine was good, the italian flag pasta was solid, fish tacos pretty solid as well, but with the fish and chips, youre prolly better off ordering something else. 3 stars cohs the fish and chips were mid and that they forgot to put my buddy's order in which took an additional 20 minutes from when everyone else got their food. read more

This is our first visit..and we are very impressed: Food - for was great.. I had fish and chips, my wife had Crispy Seafood combo and we had Monterey Calamari as our appetizer. The fish tasted really fresh and the owner told us they buy their fish from the harbor. We believed him as we have been buying our crabs here every time we get to Princeton. Service: I would say 5. The owner/manager came to us 3x just to ask us if we are okay.. 2x with our server. Manager even apologized he was taking our time to eat, but we told him, we usually go eat at our familiar place - (no need to name the restaurant). We see the difference of service from our old place than this one.. Maybe because they are still new, but the manager is trying to make sure we are being served the way we expect them to. That's a very good attitude. Ambiance: We were outside, so the ambiance was really good. Fresh air, a little cold, but he turned on the heater, and that made it very comfortable. Needing dinner after a spur-of-the-moment trip to HMB, we came across the Ketch. Have to admit that long lines at other eateries had us concerned about the Ketch when we were seated soon after arriving. The staff were very courteous and professional. The dining room clean and tastefully decorated. The food was what you would expect from a coastal pub, in a good way. In hindsight, we ordered nothing but fried plates: calamari, fish & chips, crispy combo. But they were delicious. Except for the calamari. We can't comment on the appetizer because we didn't receive it. When we brought it to Alex's attention, he was sincerely apologetic. We were pleasantly surprised when he comped us a dessert for the inconvenience. Good food, good atmosphere and great service add up to a memorable experience. First, I am rooting for this place to become a nice addition to the Half Moon Bay restaurant scene, but any comparison to the old Ketch does not serve this new one well. While we were there for lunch yesterday, three couples sat on the patio with us only to move inside when they were told there was no alcohol served there until their permit comes through. Simple solution: Have the hostess explain that before seating them. This will obviously resolve itself once that permit comes through but this is only one example of simple solutions to dining issues not being implemented right now. I know hiring experienced and competent wait staff remains a big problem for restaurants everywhere so I won't even go there. The food however is a fair thing to criticize, especially since they are running what must be called a prolonged soft opening with abbreviated hours and a very limited menu. Even so, the food we tried would have been disappointing even for pub food where no real restaurant aspirations were implied. Final thoughts because I really do have hopes that the next time we return, after a few months have passed and the reviews show promise: Make a decent tartar sauce Don't make people have to ask for salt, pepper or ketchup especially if fries are served) Serve or offer lemon slices for fish dishes Try to mimic the great onion rings and fries of your namesake Soft opening or not, a bad first impression is still powerful. The good will of the Ketch name can only last for so long. read more

I held two events there this past weekend in the service, and the food was excellent. The attendees loved it. People were ranting and raving about just about every order. The calamari was amazing. This is the first time we've been in since its remodel and re-brand as Ketch (formerly Ketch Joanne). First: The staff was very helpful, pleasant and engaging. We really appreciated their service. They've done a great job with staff training after re-opening. However, my Mom and I both felt that the food was expensive for the quality. We ordered the crab sandwich. The crab filling was excellent but was served on standard sliced sourdough bread. A higher quality bread would have justified the $21.95 price. The presentation wasn't much to write about and didn't even think to take a photo. We had an order of the onion rings that were pretty disappointing for $14. The serving size was small and I'm pretty certain that they were basic food service onion rings. They came with a very strange sauce that seemed like it was trying to be a combo between cocktail sauce and barbecue sauce. We didn't eat it. We also ordered the steamed clams for $18. Portion size was small, clams were small and a bit overcooked. The broth was very good but we've had better at other local eateries. Ambience is a refreshed local hangout with better lighting but the lighting also takes away from the former cozy local hole in the wall vibe. Overall, it's a nice place for a quick meal if you're visiting the area as long as your expectations aren't too high. I'd love to see the food reach the same standard the high quality service. read more
