For my first review of 2022, i finally checked out Khao Kang Thai given the reviews. I was glad that i was finally in the area during their hours of operation. I ordered take out through YELP. I've been meaning to check out this restaurant because of the authenticity of Thai street food. My taste buds were thrilled with the flavors that this Thai establishment really delivered a kick of spice though i ordered 'no spice'. I ordered the Thai samosas, yellow curry and pad see ew with tofu and vegetables. I appreciate that we can order and select the protein we want for each dish. The Thai samosas had a nice buttery flaky crust but the potatoes did not taste seasoned well because it tasted flat. The Thai yellow had yummy veggies (except for the baby corn, which i don't personally like) and the curry had quite the spiciness/heat even though i noted 'no spice'. The pad see ew was so flavorful and even had a nice char on the broccolini that added to a great comfort taste in each bite. The tofu were a bit large cubes but the flavor made up for it. Pick up time was earlier then indicated in the YELP food orders. There's plenty of parking in the small shopping center though each parking spot may be a bit tight. So you should try this place if you're craving Thai food. read more

This place has been mine and my boyfriend's go-to for thai food! We always recommend this place if anyone is asking. Portions are a good size, and the flavors are consistent. What more can you ask for? I've never had to wait to get seated, but I did see it get busy on a Sunday evening recently so the people must be picking up on this find. Service at this restaurant was terrible. They kept us waiting at the door and ignored us for quite a while before asking us the number of our party. It took a very long time for someone to take our order, again, rudely. Staff acted impatient and abrupt during our entire meal. The fried squid appetizer was gross. Had the chance to go back to my old stomping ground for work and stopped by a few local places. This Thai restaurant is a hidden gem, good service, food, location and price! I'm giving it 4 start because the food was good but not the best Thai food I've had (I used the 5 starts for mount watering dishes :)). I wished the pork for the gapao was minced like I've had it before in Thailand. I'll definitely be going back and who knows, the star might go up. read more

YEAAAAAAAH man my partner and I ordered this for debauchery takeout on a work night and it is easily my favorite thai in the bay area now we got tofu pad kee mao and veggie panang curry with brown rice. both were incredibly flavorful, and the textures were perfect -- veggies were cooked until they were just soft but still crisp, eggplant was creamy and luxurious, and the tofu was cooked differently in the various dishes (soft in the curry, fried in the noodles, yay). the pad kee mao had a cool garlic bent to it. the brown rice was a deep purple and had an absolutely wonderful bite. we ordered both medium spicy, and it was just enough to give me a slight stomach ache (the way it should be). totally excited to come back and try some of their other dishes read more

One of my favorite discoveries during the pandemic! Really great and authentic Thai food. My favorites are the green curry, esan sausage, boat noodle, pork herbal soup noodle (5 stars, my fav) and the steamed fish with kaffir leaves. And the mango sticky rice is also 10/10. To the person giving this place a low rating because "you can get a bowl of noodles for 50 cents in Thailand", we're clearly not in Thailand where restaurants don't have to deal with Bay Area rental and living costs? I ordered a pad thai, thai iced tea(no photo) and mango sticky rice online for pick up. They called and told me they're super busy, will take more time and they will call me back when Food is ready-- but they didnt so we picked it up instead. When we got home was too excited to try the pad thai cause almost everyone was raving bout it here... its a NO for me! It was dry and lack of flavor. On a business trip and craving some thai food, looked around at some of the local restaurants on yelp, and found Khao Kang not too far away. Drove over, arrived around 1:30pm (they close at 2pm), and was seated next to the door. Ordered Pad See Ew, w/chicken, medium heat. Server mentioned something under her breath like "Not spicy" and I repeated "medium" and she nodded her head. A different server brought the food out and pretty quickly but the "pad see ew" had beef instead of chicken. *sigh* I waited for 5 minutes but apparently everyone was too busy getting ready to close that the server never came back. Ok, fine. I also enjoy beef so I'll eat it. One bite in, you guessed it, not spicy. 3-stars for the food 1-star for the customer service read more

We were looking for a new Thai place and stumbled upon this place! Since this was a pick-up, I can't speak to the ambience or dining experience but I can speak to the food! The papaya salad was fresh, vibrant, and just the right balance of sweet with a burst of salt provided by the lovely toasted peanuts scattered atop. The steamed fish curry was a real highlight--rich and succulent with creamy curry bites and gorgeously tender chunks of fish. The Nam Ya Ka Ti was rich and savory with delicious notes of fish and lemongrass. The vermicelli was a perfect base for this complex curry broth. Overall, a delicious experience. I really liked this place before, but as they've gotten busier, we've had major issues with takeout. The first time, I waited 20 minutes beyond our estimated pickup time. I kept inquiring about the wait time and told them I had a baby waiting in the car, but they couldn't give me an estimate and just kept saying it would be out soon. Plus, the guy who was packing the food was only intermittently unmasked.. This most recent time, they accidentally gave our food to someone else. He left, opened the bag and realized it wasn't his order, drove back, and brought the food back. The server tried to hand us the food other guy just brought back. Even in the absence of COVID, you do NOT let someone drive off with a customer's order and then just hand it to them when the random person brings it back! We had to ask for them to remake our order... I'm really sad because I really do like their food, and I want to support a small business, but the last takeout experience was unacceptable. read more

Khao Kang may look like any typical Thai restaurant with its humble location in a quiet strip mall in Mountain View, but they offer a number of Esan dishes (from Northeast Thailand) that are hard to find anywhere else! To start, we had the Laos style papaya salad, a mixture of shredded papaya, tomatoes, carrots, eggplant, green beans, and chilies in a funky, fishy dressing flavored with salted crab. The nam tok "salad" was a mixture of sliced grilled beef tossed with roasted rice powder, onions, chilies, herbs, and more fish sauce, and while the flavors were totally on point, some of the slices of beef were on the fatty/chewy side. The Kang Oom soup came with a heaping helping of meat (we chose the sliced pork) along with green beans, bamboo, eggplants, scallions, and a ton of herbs including dill. The soup was spicy, savory, acidic, and herbaceous at the same time, and the flavors were not held back one bit. Our waiter recommended the Sai Aou as one of his favorite dishes--this sausage was made with ground pork, herbs, chilies, and cumin, and was served with sides of dried red chilies, red onions, and peanuts. But of everything we tried, my favorite dish had to be the Hor Mok Pla, made of white fish steamed with Thai curry paste and topped with coconut milk, all sitting in two ramekins made of banana leaves. The fish itself was super tender and was complemented perfectly by the herbs and spices of the curry paste and the creaminess of the coconut milk. Overall, the flavors here were completely on point and not held back at all. Our server Phix (from Chiang Mai) was super friendly too and chatted with us about his own life learning languages and moving to California. This restaurant made for a great experience not just for the authentic food in a casual, fun atmosphere but for the personal touch as well! read more

At the suggestion of the waiter, I ordered the Kow Ka Pow, which was pork, green beans, and red pepper in an excellent spicy sauce' plus rice. I was greatly impressed with the sauce flavor. Yum. The employees were friendly. The décor is casual and clean. Free parking is in front within the small strip mall. One thing that I did not like was the pop music they played over the speaker system. I am not fond of that music style, and it was not soft or gentle. I recommend that the manager/owner play no music at all; but if they must, then some very soft, gentle music, such as jazz piano. I hope to return and try their food another time. read more

I also got the chicken yellow curry and there was a hair in it. This really sucks. The quality of food was not good for the price I paid. Things to order: 1/ fish cakes (so good!!!!) they are better at the restaurant but will still be good at home if you take out. When I ate there the outer layer had a delightful crunch from being freshly fried, which went perfectly with the bounciness of the fish cake and the crunch crunch crunch of the green beans. DE-LI-CIOUS!!!! 2/ crispy pork with red curry paste!! THE CRISPY PORK IS DONE SO WELL!! And mmmmmm the red curry was flavorful and delicious it made all the taste buds on my tongue DANCE. And they topped it off with a perfectly fried egg. I'm drooling just thinking about it and really want to go back already (but I ate there yday) Everything was good - keep up the great work KKTK. Ok. I'm from out of town and will be moving to this area in a few months and my gf and I decided to scope out the local restaurants. We came and ordered pick up and let me get to the point - this place is AMAZING! The food is FRESH, flavorful, and justifies the higher-than-normal prices we are accustomed to. Hands down worth every penny. You can't beat the quality when the quantity is generous! The only reason I gave this a 4 out of five is because when requesting a vegan fried rice with no fish sauce and no egg - we were told that it did not come with egg. Odd I know. Fried rice usually always come with egg. Luckily we ordered the pad kee mow and it came out correct - BUT, as soon as we started eating, the freshness and quality was so great we didn't care. Lol we did call before we ate and they were professional and gave us a credit, but we simply really didn't care when the food touched our mouths. The food is superb and let that be known. I ordered these food on one of Friday for dinner. I was able to order online and come pick up in store. They server were very nice when I come in with a question and she helped me so well with smile on her face. The indoor atmosphere were amazing, they have a light music paling in the back ground. The place was not loud at all. There was not a big space but all the tables were not near by each other like other restaurants. I think this would be a nice spot for date night. After waiting for 15 minutes, the food came out. They were nicely pack. The food flavor were amazing, sweet and sour just like the way I wanted it to be. The food were a big portion too. I think the food here is on the pricey side, but I think it's worth. I will be back and try different food. read more

The green curry came in ten minutes; ripe with abundant medium tofu, plenty of slices of bamboo, egg plants, red n' green bell peppers in a creamy, flavorful curry that was medium in spicyness. Comes with a small bowl of fragrant jasmine rice, all hot and fluffy. Like! My water was constantly being refilled. My friend had to yellow curry and chicken; which was very good. I have been looking for a Thai place that makes Lad Na aka Rad Na (chow fun made with a thick gravy, veggies and meat) and every place has disappointed except here! Made perfectly! I knew this would be my favorite Thai restaurant when I was assaulted by blasting sanguine pop Thai ballads as I stepped in to pick up my order. My memory of living in Thailand decades ago came rushing back. The food did not disappoint. Som tum lao that I had ordered as "medium spicy" lit my mouth with painful fire. I then wiped away my tears of joy and snot for finding an establishment with the true reference for spicy levels. Hor mok pla is spectacularly good and filled with fish. We called at 8:00 to see if they would seat us before they shut at 9 - the hostess begrudging said yes and was very unhappy to actually see us show up at 8:20 - and told us multiple times the kitchen was closing at 8:45. Love the pineapple curry, I ordered it with tofu and veggies, it was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is that I selected Spicy, but it was not hot at all, tasted extremely mild. It's unclear to me if that is the way they typically make spicy or it was mistakenly made to be mild. Overpriced thai food that doesn't follow the description. So I ordered Yellow Curry, vegetarian option, for takeout. It's description states that it consists of curry, onions, carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, broccoli and zucchini. Should be tasty if it was true! Guess what, the curry I got had only potatoes and huge chunks of carrot and onion :/ Good luck with such false advertising. read more
