Mind you there food IS tasty - And that's what makes this review very sad - Only feedback I have is on their "SPICE' level which led to a very unpleasant customer service experience: Whenever I place a Pick-Up order, they ask for how spicy I want it - I typically reply, "medium". In most Thai restaurants, this translates perfectly. For Khao Soi, it sometimes means "Medium Spicy". And I mean burning my tongue spicy - I am Asian and I pride on how spicy I can eat but on a couple of occasions, I actually had to drive back to have them remake it because it was uneatable. So I learned my lesson and came up with this reply when asked, "how spicy". I replied, "NOT mild and NOT spicy but just normal/regular" - My exact words. I picked up my food, came home and saw the ticket which read, "MILD". I called the restaurant to simply ask how I should order next time because this spice level thing somehow seems to be a continual experience for me - The lady who I had picked up the food from (I recognized her voice) started YELLING at me of how busy she was and how she can possibly know my "tongue" . . . . . . She then yelled out "Just tell me what you want - you want me to make it again"??!! I said "no and that's not why I was calling". She then told me to just order MILD so it's safer that way. She obviously didn't have any intentions of working this out - So, I calmly told her I will call back another time to speak with the owner . . . she then put the phone down and went about her business. I actually thought she was trying to have me talk to someone else - but nope, I waited and waited but no one came online. She took a customer who genuinely just wanted to know how to better communicate my order to getting me to spend my evening after a long day's work to write this review . . . very sad. As much as I have enjoyed their food - I don't spend my hard earned money where first sign of "complaint" gets a yelling. All the young ladies and men have been courteous - First time I've seen this older lady who should NOT be minding the front desk or the phones. read more

Read this though, my friend invited me to grab an item from the Off the Menu app and of course we did the app item and ordered the Chicken Gyoza appetizer along with a Lemon Grass Drink and a Thai Iced Tea. Omg where to begin!!! We traveled to Thailand last year and one of our stops was Chiang Mai. Fell in love with their cuisine but especially the Khao Soi! After searching for a good place, I found this little whole in the wall. Right when I tasted it, it brought me back to heaven! I have been craving this soup since we left Chiang Mai and I'm soooo happy to have found this place! Worth the hour of traffic coming from DTLA lol. Great place and great food! The staff was really nice. There is a $15 minimum or else they charge a fee to use debit/credit. Service is very friendly and food is one of our top two Thai places in SoCal. There's literally 2-3 Thai mamas working the stoves back there. Can't get anymore authentic then that. I really enjoyed the khao soi, spicy fried rice and red curry here. I got spicy level 9 and 10 and it had a decent kick. Don't be afraid to get it because it's really not that spicy. So why 3 stars? I woke up the next day with a stomachache and nauseated. I ended up throwing up all the Thai food that my stomach just could not process. We had tom kha soup that was one of the best I've had, super tender satay, and pad Thai. My fair honest review is that the Pad thai has no flavor and the rice is just okay not the best. I don't know why everyone is raving about the food. Maybe there other items are good? I don't know. So Darn GOOD! I went here starving and craving Thai! They definitely met my craving and I even had left overs for lunch. My favorite Thai dish is Pad Thai, and I am definitely a critic. I LOVED that they did not put large onions in the dish, I've gone to a few authentic location and was highly disappointed with the onion overload. They put green onions, which I find to be a much better option, and I can tolerate them. I even noticed they had young coconuts. I'm more of a water drinker, but it's nice that the option is there! The Tom Yum Kha was delicious too and had the perfect amount of spice (medium, which is spicy but doesn't overtake the flavor). I did not see summer rolls, but I will have to look harder next time.
