We wanted to get food from the excellent Thai Pepper but they were closed the week we were in town. Thanks to Yelp, we found Khao Soi. We ordered takeout from yelp/grubhub and that worked great. We ordered the Thai Salad with peanut sauce, Pad c-ew, and tofu grapow with rice. I brought back the food to our room at the Garland and we chowed down. My wife was so blown away by how good this Thai Food was that she is worried that we won't be able to make it back this trip. I hope we do! read more

Hands down the best Thai meal I've had outside of Thailand. We saw the great yelp reviews and pictures so decided to check it out. We knew walking in that we wanted to order a bevy of dishes and went with the Tom Yum, Lemongrass chicken, and Penang curry just to start. From the minute we tasted the tom yum, we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. The flavors were layered with lemongrass and the perfect amount of spice. The lemongrass chicken was juicy and delicious. So we then decided to order the curry crab and pineapple fried rice. Holy moly, the crab was the star of the meal - I can still taste the flavors of the curry and the green onions were a perfect compliment. The fried rice was delicious too - we took it to go and it was a yummy breakfast the next day. Now the service - exceptional! We had wonderful conversations with both Arie and Woody. Arie was even nice enough to let us try the khao Soi which was epically delicious (will be getting that next time!) It's apparent in the food and the conversation how much Arie and Woody love what they do and they put that love into the food. We can't wait to visit when we are in LA again. Absolutely delicious thai food! My friend and I came here for dinner and ended up ordering so much food, simply because it all looked so good. Favorite dishes included the Fried Chicken, the Thai Susage, the Green Papaya Salad with Grilled Shrimp, and the Crab Fried Rice. The Khao Soi Curry is also their signature dish. I don't LOVE curry so it wasn't my favorite, but my friend was a huge fan. The restaurant has a very cute outdoor patio and a nice indoor space. The service is terrific and the team extremely knowledgable. I will absolutely be back here for dinner next time I'm in Studio City. Very affordable and huge portions. Leftovers for dayyyysss. Yes, you and your staff did check up on us, but we were trying to have a nice evening and did not want to make it awkward and have you remake all our dishes. Yes, our friends did take leftovers with them which were paid for. No, I did not receive my hot tea, so not sure how it could have been refilled. ***** More like 2.5 stars....I wanted to like this place so much that I gave it a second chance. Food continues to be VERY SALTY! I was here for lunch a few months ago and my curry dish was very salty!!! I picked up from Khao Soi Thai, and ordered the Khao Soi noodles, Pad See Ew, and duck over rice. I was happy that they separated the regular noodles and crispy noodles from the soup. The soup was extremely tasty. We ordered it with the crab, and it came with some nice chunks of it. The Pad See Ew noodles were a nice balance of delicate and chewy and very flavorful. I ordered it with beef, which was probably not the best choice as it was a bit like beef jerky. I'll opt for Tofu or chicken next time. The duck was not over cooked and came with a nice sauce. To be honest, I loved the broth of the Khao Soi so much, I tossed the rice and duck into the remaining broth and gobbled it up. When I picked up my order, I tried to add an order of mango and sticky rice. The mango rice is a seasonal item, and didn't appear on the Yelp menu when I ordered. They said it would take an additional 20 minutes to add the dessert, so I'll have to save that for next time. All in all, really happy with my order, and will amend it accordingly for the next time. read more

Pleasantly surprised at how delicious this was! I love my Thai food and have tried many of the restaurants around LA. Shared a couple dishes here with a friend: fried shrimp cake, fried chicken, and the Khao Soi Curry with fresh crab. The curry was phenomenal!! The server advised us to only order 5/10 but we went with 6/10 spice and even that was just a mild spiciness for us. Next time definitely going for a higher number but the flavor is a good balance of sweet, creamy, spicy, and savory. The egg noodles are deliciously al dente and the fresh crab was juicy. This was the worst experience I had in a restaurant for as long as I can remember, and I dine out quite frequently. It took 30+ minutes for the waitress to get our food in time. My mom and I had to go up twice to ask her to take our order, and to get water cups. After 30 minutes passed and w/o mentioning any word of apology, the waitress finally came and explained why it took so long: the owner "prioritized" take-out over dine-in, so those waiting to pick up their orders for delivery apps all got their food promptly while we sat there half starved. When the food came out, it was fine (pad-thai was not good, tom kha and red curry are decent) but then as we wrapped up the meal and got our check, we realized something pretty ridiculous: they charged us extra for every protein that usually is included in a dish's base price. (chicken and beef is an extra $2. seafood is understandably more but the regular proteins shouldn't be extra). This extra fee was even added to the Pad Kaprow Gai, which doesn't make any sense when the dish itself IS chicken. We told the waitress, and she said that the check didn't include the prices in the subtotal, so we calculated it and it turned out that we were overcharged. She apologized and told us she'd remove the extra charges for the proteins and that we didn't need to pay her tip. We were happy that she at least felt apologetic and sympathized with us, so we paid her 15% tip as standard and handed her the check. As the owner came by to check on us, we kindly asked for the customer copy, but she brought a nasty attitude with her and asked what was wrong. We told her what happened and she said the extra prices were NOT wrong, that they were stated in the menu which they clearly weren't. When we asked why she would charge us extra for chicken when the dish itself is chicken, she responded harshly with "that's the way we do things " and walked off. Never happened to me in any restaurant I've been to. Even though the food itself is not bad, I do not support the owner of the restaurant and the way she price-gouges the menu items for things that should not be additional costs. Not to mention the terrible attitude we got from her and the terribly slow service we received as a result from her poorly established ordering system. The duck.. Get the duck. I've had my fair share of roasted duck and Peking duck but Khao Soi Thai's duck over rice is amongst the best. The only gripe is that they put way too much rice, I'd prefer more of the yummy Chinese broccoli. The patio area is dog-friendly and completely shaded. All the patio tables were full while only one or two tables were taken inside. The servers were all so sweet and very attentive; even to our dogs, they'd make sure their water bowls were filled. Giving this place 2 stars was a tough decision. I had to think about the whole experience: Food 5 stars, but Service/experience -5 stars. My husband picked Khao Soi Thai for his birthday dinner. We hadn't been yet, but the reviews were amazing. Parking was easy and we were seated immediately. I noticed there was a yelp deal: Spend over $40 you get a free drink. There isn't alcohol, so you can choose between cans of soda, thai iced tea/coffee or their iced lemon grass drink (which is apparently naturally sweet, but the sweetest thing i've ever had). I made sure we spent over $40 for a free $3.50 bev cause I love a coupon. The first time & only real time we interacted with our server was to order water and drinks showing him the yelp free drink. About 15 minutes later we order our food even though we were ready the whole time- 2 apps and 2 entrees. No drinks yet. About 25 minutes later our entrees come out. **Still no water/drinks or even our apps** We flag down the server which took another 5 minutes. Our waters & appetizers were brought out 10 minutes later. About 10 minutes after that we flag down anyone who seems like they work there & ask for our drinks. At the very end of our meal they bring the drinks out. TBH we didn't want them anymore, but flagging down the server was near impossible. There was no chance the entire meal to ask for sriracha/chili paste, more water, an extra napkin or anything and not once did anyone check in with us. After waiting for anyone to acknowledge us for another 45 minutes we went up to the take out counter to ask for our sever. The server finally comes by, doesn't say a word and just looks at us. I ask for the check and I remind them about the yelp free drink. Silence. He brings the check out and the free drink was charged. I ask again as a hail mary and his response was that he needs to do something in the back for that and so no. NO! lmoa. Whatever at this point, just GET US OUT. Take our money and let us LEAAAAVVVVEEEEE. At this point we have been there over 2 hours with one cup of water each (I was so thirsty & so it's all I could think about). Don't get me started about asking for togo containers. Those eye rolls and deep sighs...yeesh. The restaurant was not packed, but I get how one server would be overwhelmed. The takeout orders were coming in like hot cakes, so the person working the counter was overwhelmed as well. I don't know if their staff called out or what was going on, but it was a rough experience for both patrons and staff. OK, for the food: The papaya salad was spicy and delicious. Yellow curry was so good. Pad thai was so good. Crispy chicken gyoza was good. Portions were big and prices were reasonable. I would consider going again, but for takeout ONLY. Seldom do I feel compelled to write a review after trying a restaurant for the first time. Today is a seldom day. I ordered a couple simple dishes, so I really wasn't expecting anything extraordinary. But man, was I surprised! The two dishes were Pad Thai noodles and Herb Roasted Chicken. This place is so good! I've had a few different items from here and everything is delicious. I have tried their tom yum noodle soup, drunken noodle, regular tom yum soup, crab fried rice, spicy basil over rice, eggplant, etc. This is legit, authentic northern thai food. Their dishes are SPICY! I learned this the hard way when I ignored my server's warning and chose my usual level medium. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. My roommate and I come here all the time. The food quality is great and the prices are very fair for the amount of food you receive. The noodles and curry is the move. The rest of the menu is good but they don't hit the same as the noodle or curry. Only criticism I can make is the Chicken Satay needs to be eaten when it's hot because it becomes dry pretty quick. The peanut sauce is extremely good and makes the satay worth ordering. The drunken noodles is my favorite by far. Parking is readily available since Khao Soi is located at the end of the plaza. Khao Soi reminds me of Chick-fil-A because I always get the craving for it on Sunday's and realize they are closed after I've already parked and walked right up to their door. read more

Simply the best Thai food in Los Angeles. Skip Thai town and run to the valley, it's worth the drive (even in rush hour).
