This was the most underwhelming meal we had in Maui. The service, the food, the seating. All of it was kind of mid and lacking. We ordered the pork fried rice. It was rather bland and disappointing. The loco mocos were ok and the cornbeef was dry and small in portion. The best thing we had was the banana macadamia pancakes. They were fluffy, fresh and yummy. There is lots of seating and you order before they help you find a seat. I don't like that most of the seating is by the line where guest in line can watch you eat. It was awkward. We came here on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't busy at all. We were able to place our order quickly. We ordered the omelet special, the loco moco with kalua pork (upgraded to fried rice), and a fruit bowl. Honestly, I was disappointed. I've heard a lot of good reviews about this place, but it didn't live up to the hype for us. When ordering, we were asked what we'd like to drink, and although I wasn't planning on purchasing water, we were required to buy a room temperature carton of water for $2. We didn't wait long for our food, and everything came out at the same time. However, the $10 fruit bowl was very underwhelming. It was served in a small plastic cup with a lid and it consisted of grapes, honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, kiwis, and blueberries. Given that we were in Hawaii in January, we were expecting the fruit to include seasonal, locally grown fruit. It felt like a pre packaged fruit cup, possibly even from the Foodland across the street. The fruit didn't taste fresh either. The strawberries in particular tasted wilted. This was especially disappointing since the menu describes the fruit bowl as "a mix of fresh seasonal fruit." So when visiting Ohana again we decided to go back to this place. It's still busy but not as crowded as it once was. Used to be a cash only place now they accept credit card. The food is okay. The plate was basically two colors, yellow and white. Disgusting to all the senses. The loco moco had a hockey puck of a hamburger patty, likely something imported that was frozen. The rice tasted day old. The gravy was gritty. Added a side of guac for $5.00 which was basically a quarter sized dollop, brown in color and flavorless. They're open every day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., making it a great option for early risers craving a hot coffee and a delicious breakfast. While the food is truly amazing, be prepared to pay more than at most places. Out of all the meals I had during my vacation, this was by far the most expensive. We spent just over $60 for two breakfast plates, and that didn't even include a drink. One thing to note is they don't serve tap water. When I asked for a glass of water to go with my eggs and pancakes, the cashier informed me that they only sell boxed water. Also, if possible, pay in cash because there's a 3% fee for credit card transactions. They've also posted a sign letting customers know that there's been an increase in meal prices that include eggs, due to rising costs. When you order at the cashier, an employee will seat you. Unfortunately, they placed me at a less-than-ideal spot, and when I asked if I could move, they said no due to the need for other tables. All in all, despite the few frustrations, the food really is worth it if you're willing to pay the price. Just go in with realistic expectations and be prepared for some extra costs.
