Was in the mood for Asian food and came here to check out the side dishes. The pans are full and the sides look appetizing so I decided to order my post-movie meal. Like most Korean BBQ fast food joints, Kim's offers standard items like kalbi, BBQ chicken, katsu, etc. I wasn't super hungry, and a little bit tired of ordering the same things, so I decided on the bibimbap. The bibimbap was listed under the regular menu, which comes with 4 choices of vegetables and 2 scoops of rice. Before I ordered, I asked the man what's in the bibimbap and he showed me a picture on his Foursquare menu/cash register; it looked like typical bibimbap vegetables like shredded carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, etc. I also asked if I still get to choose the 4 side dishes, and he then consulted someone in the kitchen and came back with an affirmative. I had already mentally picked the long rice, cabbage kimchi (looked really really red), potato mayo, and pickled seaweed. Yum! To my disappointment, I didn't get any sides. Also, the vegetables in my bibimbap are bean sprouts, choi sum, daikon kimchi, and cabbage, from the cold side dish selection. Meh. The meat was tasty though (like bulgogi) even if it wasn't ground beef. Service was courteous and smiley. However it is evident that English isn't their dominant language, so don't ask complicated questions like I did. Price point for my bibimbap is a bit high I think, compared to the volume of meats in their other plates. To be honest, I'm not sure I want to return. I'm not sure if they've chasms owners, or cooks, or what, but this is actually the worst Korean food I've had. The plates were small, for a fairly expensive plate, and only had the equivalent of a single scoop rice - I can't believe you would skimp on rice! The BBQ Chicken had no flavor, and was not fileted open as you would normally see at any other Korean restaurant here, and there wasn't much of it. There was hardly any BBQ Beef on my chicken/beef mix. The Meat Jhun was the only thing that was any good, but was not cut up, and the Kim Chee tasted like it was made just before we got there. They were a definitely a lifesaver! I made the dumb decision to skip lunch that day and I managed to squeeze in my dinner order less than 15 mins from closing (sorry but thank you!). I ordered the kalbi and meat jun combo with choy sum, seaweed, cabbage, and japchae (noodles). The side dishes were all great with the japchae being my favorite. The kalbi was tender and had a nice balance of sweet and savory. The meat jun was a lot bigger than I expected because it had a thick egg coat (no complaints!). Portion size was massive and well worth the price; this lasted me three meals at the cost of $19 total. It appears that they take phone orders as well and would definitely recommend that option if placing a large to go order. We almost always order the Kim's Special combo which has a little bit of everything (chicken, bulgogi, Kalbi, and a few pieces of mandu), and the portion size is definitely enough for two people to share (especially if you have extra rice at home). They are very generous with the amount of meat they give, which justifies the price for me. My favorite part of Korean food is the banchan side dishes, and I love that you get to choose 4 for your entree. I always appreciate when you can get a balanced meal with veggies in one order! It can get crowded during the lunch/dinner rush, so we always phone in our order ahead of time. You may still have to wait in a bit of a line to pick-up though. read more

The food is decent, but the prices/portion size is so insanely expensive for what you get -- to the point that I won't be coming back. Last night we ordered takeout from Kim's Korean BBQ. We ordered one bi bim bap and a meat jun combo plate with meat jun and bbq beef over the phone, and they told me it'd be ready in 10-15 minutes. Sure enough, it was ready when they said it would be, and when we went to pick it up the guy working was wearing a mask. The service was great! The bi bim bap was pretty good. It was tasty, had good portioning, and the egg was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately by the time we brought it home and sat down for dinner the meal had already cooled off quite a bit. The meat jun/bbq beef combo plate was also well portioned (two large pieces of meat jun and plenty of bbq beef underneath), enough for dinner last night, lunch today (the rice was still good the next day!), and an afternoon snack. It normally comes with 2 scoops of rice and your choice of 4 vegetables. I asked if I could substitute more vegetables for the rice, so I was able to pick out 5 veggies instead of 4. I got the long rice, bean sprouts, choi sum, kimchi, and cabbage. I wish I had ordered the daikon instead of one of my other choices, but I was too lazy to call back and didn't want to bother them in case they were busy. Not sure if they got bought out or what, but Kim's Korean BBQ has maintained the quality and standard of food that Yummys had for decades before. The staff are really friendly and the food is really delicious. The prices are on par with all the other Korean BBQ takeout places. My favorite? Pricey for what it is, but it's good. Honestly the best thing here is the japchae they make as one of the side dishes. The short ribs are good when you eat them fresh. I would skip the meat-jun. Besides the japchae, I do enjoy their sautéed cabbage. I do not recommend their macaroni salad; looks creamy, but very bland. If it's doable, just ask for extra noodles if you don't want as many sides. This small family run business easily deserves a five star rating. Here is a run down of our experience: Food: Two of us shared the kalbi beef and chicken combo plate that comes with three sides. The beef had amazing flavors and the chicken was decent too. We really liked the noodle and kimchi sides. It was plenty of food and enough to feed two people. That is about $9 per person which is a great deal (some reviews complained about portion size and price). Service: We had questions about the sides and the staff proactively have us samples to try before we ordered. Our food came out relatively quickly and the place was pretty busy the entire time we were there. The restaurant is on the second level of a strip mall and is overlooking a bay/marina which was really nice to enjoy while dining. It's open air style so you can feel the nice Hawaiian air inside. My husband kept mentioning how good this place is the rest of the day. If you are passing this area then I easily recommend this place for lunch! I was disappointed that I was only able to pick two sides as the recent menus posted showed that you can pick four sides with two scoops of rice. The takeout ordering process was easy over the phone, and my food was ready to pick up in 15 minutes.
