    SHIO TRUFFLE
    Mallory P.

Thursday night, party of five, zero reservation and Kin Ramen still tucked us into a window booth in under five minutes. That kind of hospitality alone deserves a review. The spot is special (literally, you head below street level to get in), which somehow makes it feel even more like a NYC secret you're in on. Small, cozy, dimly lit in the best way, and staffed by people who are genuinely warm. We started with the tempura sweet potato fries and dumplings, both of which disappeared off the table fast. I went with the shio truffle ramen homemade chicken broth, homemade chicken chashu, half ajitama, bean sprouts, menma, shiso, truffle paste, and nori and it was easily one of the best bowls I've had in the city. The truffle paste takes it from "great ramen" to "why haven't I been here sooner," and the homemade chashu is so tender it practically melts before you even chew. Five bowls at the table, five very happy campers. Bonus: it's a quick stroll from Central Park, so pair a bowl here with an afternoon in the park for a genuinely great NYC day. If you're hunting for an authentic ramen bar that nails both the food and the vibe, stop scrolling , this is it.

One of my go-to spots for ramen in the city! I love the atmosphere and overall vibe of the restaurant. The interior is decorated nicely with Japanese and anime-inspired elements, which adds to the experience. Upon arrival, you're greeted by the staff in a unique and energetic way. They have a wide variety of menu options, ranging from ramen to rice bowls. I always opt for the curry ramen, and it's one of my favorite dishes here. The cutlet is crispy, and the curry broth is rich, flavorful, and delicious. The service is also great. The servers are always attentive, ready to answer questions, and quick to refill waters whenever they notice your glass getting low. Food comes out quickly as well. Overall, Kin Ramen is a spot I find myself coming back to again and again whenever I'm craving a good bowl of ramen.

Such a delicious bowl of ramen! I tried the kin ramen and I loved the flavorful broth, tender meat, and all the ingredients in the bowl. It's cozy and packed inside, but that adds to the intimate vibe. They do not take reservations, so be sure to wait in line early. The staff are fast despite being so busy.

Dare I say one of the best ramens I've had in the city? Noodles were chewy and bouncy, soup was so light and savory despite having truffle, and the chicken was literally so juicy and gingery. Loved the vibes inside as well--there were a ton of retro posters, traditional masks, and other kitsch items; really felt like I was transported to an izakaya in Japan!

This was my first meal on my first solo trip in NYC and it didn't not disappoint. It was a very cozy and busy restaurant, which is to be expected in Manhattan, but I was seated right away because I was alone. The ramen was truly some of the best. I love curry and the mix of flavors and textures was delicous. The ginger was a nice strong flavor and paired well with the rich curry broth. The noodles were prefect texture. The katsu was hot and crunchy and well seasoned. This was a perfect first meal for a chilly day.

The decor was so cute here! It feels like you're eating at a true ramen shop in the heart of Japan. The seats were quite close to each other so you could hear the conversations next to you, but the lively atmosphere makes it cozy. They provide crates for you to place your belongings by your table. Our food came quickly and the service was great. They greet you in Japanese as soon as you walk in the door. As for the ramen, it was tasty, but it wasn't the best ramen I've ever had. Have I had cheaper ramen for better taste? Definitely. Is it still worth coming to try and enjoying the atmosphere? Absolutely. If you want a clean broth, this is the place to go.

Kin Ramen is such a charming place to enjoy a bowl of hot noodles. Made to feel like you're transported to an old Japanese village, this restaurant boasts bamboo panels and clay-tiled roofs with kabuki masks and paper lanterns adorning the walls. But Kin Ramen isn't just all style and no substance. The food, too, was just as delightful as the decor. The buta bara, marinated pork belly stuffed with scallions, was wonderfully meaty and perfectly charred. It was a great dish to start. The pork chashu was creamy, the noodles had a good chew, the yolk on that boiled egg was expertly firm yet gooey. This is certainly a great date-night spot paired with an evening at the Moma. I'd come here again, and if I were hosting out-of-state guests hankering for a bowl of hot ramen, I'd definitely take them here.

Delicious homemade pork broth with pork chashu, red ginger, shallot root made spicy with chili paste and oil. I prefer udon noodles to these thin ones but the flavor of the broth compensated for noodle,We were greeted warmly with a Japanese welcome.

A cute and cozy ramen shop located right below Central Park - I got the shoyu ramen which had a light, clean chicken broth with toppings like the scallions and bamboo shoots + it comes with a lovely soft boiled egg! Noodles are more on the al dente side, which made them nice and springy. They were actually quite packed on a Tuesday noon, but the service was swift regardless. The rustic, wooden interior was also very snug and really did remind me of Japan :')

Stopped by while in town for work, this was close to my hotel. A friendly young lady seated me quickly. I ordered the Kara Kin, it was delicious! Pork was tasty. Food came out very quickly which was perfect because of how hungry I was. Delicious! Would recommend.

3.5/5 Three stars, because honestly, the Ramen was just all right for the price point. The noodles were thick and chewy which some might prefer, but there was nothing standout. I'm surprised there was a line outside, but it's a very small shop and it's in a very touristy area. The line moved quickly. The extra .5 comes from the veggie gyoza & the fun ambience. It's a tight space though so best to come in a pair and not a place to loiter.

Our first time in Kin ramen and I felt instantly transported to a tiny ramen shop in Tokyo. The sights, smells, seating, flavors, are all so similar. I do regret not getting the Kara kin ramen itself - we got the curry ramen instead and i know the restaurant's namesake will be better! Apps were good - we got the chicken karage and loved the dipping sauces. Definitely give them a try! Go early on a weekday night to be seated immediately. I know there's usually a short wait on weekends.

I came for dinner this week with visitors from Japan, who were impressed by how authentically Japanese and delicious everything was. Unfortunately, I don't have photos, but we chose the restaurant week menu, which included: 1. Japanese potato salad 2. Choice of kushiage, chicken nanban or kinpira salad--I chose kushiage, which came with 3 pieces 3. Choice of kaisen don, signature burger or shoyu ramen--the burger looked very tasty, but I was in the mood for Japanese food, so I chose the kaisen don 4. Homemade soft serve with choice of strawberry, mango or melon sauce--I chose melon, which was nice We also tried sparkling tea from Copenhagen, which was very refreshing. The restaurant was busy but the servers were friendly and we had a wonderful meal. Looking forward to trying more dishes next time.

The interior is beautiful, with plants and art creating a serene atmosphere that somehow matches the menu. Well worth a visit for the setting. The food itself is good, on both occasions I felt the sashimi was well prepared and fresh. Other dishes didn't blow me away; the udon was fine (and it's cool that they bring it over a flame, so that it finishes cooking right in front of you). Overall worth a splurge for the unique experience more than the food, it's a nice place for a relaxing dinner in an intimate setting.

Half of their menu is vegan-friendly. Spoiler alert: they will open a permanent location in June/July! *Chicken Karaage*** This chicken karaage was TO DIE FOR -- the caramelized sugar lemon on the side took it to a whole new level. The boneless chicken was so tender and juicy with a thin deep-fried batter. The meat was extremely refreshing after squeezing the lemon and dipping in honey mustard sauce. * Handrolls - Salmon Yuzu, Tuna, Yellowtail** Y'all need to order their handrolls! The sashimi piece was thick and long enough to cover the vinegar rice. It would be a pain to pick which handroll I like more. They layered up the flavors of each piece with house sauces, shiso leaf, fried leek, avocado etc. Wish they would add a handroll set in the future. *Pork Cutlet Curry The curry was a blend of shredded meat, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and grapes (yes grapes!). The pork loin cutlets were crispy and not heavily breaded. The meat was a bit dry, yet it was cut in thin slices so it didn't bother me much. I found the multigrain rice even more enjoyable than white rice with its crunchiness. *Matcha Crème Brûlée** WE LOVED THIS. Matcha flavor is strong. The caramelized top and creamy matcha custard complemented really well. Trust me, their crème brûlée is the best dessert to finish off your meal. *Vegan Matcha Cheesecake This cheesecake was homey and light. Matcha flavor was tasteable but not very strong. The raspberry compote added a nice touch to it. I liked the crunchy biscuit layer on the bottom. *Yuzu White Peach Sparkling *Virgin Green Tea Mojito Their Japanese-inspired mocktails were great and not too sweet (very rare for mocktails). Very refreshing to drink along with your meal.

Starting off with the Agedashi Tofu: Three pieces of tofu in tsuyu sauce. Light and crispy, with a savory but not too salty broth. It came with fried enoki mushrooms. Some grated radish would've been a nice touch. Chicken Karaage: This was my personal favorite. The chicken pieces were tender and juicy, while crispy on the outside. The portion came with a decent amount of chicken which was shareable between three. Shoyu Ramen: Not a standout dish, but seeing as it's not specifically a ramen restaurant, it was standard! Not amazing but not bad. Pork Cutlet Curry: As someone who loves Japanese curry, this hit the spot! Warm flavorful curry with crispy tonkatsu. However, I think it would taste better served with fluffy white rice! Also I think it was served with a side of grapes which was seemed odd unless it's a new food trend I'm unaware of. Overall, would definitely come back! They seem to do fried foods well, hopefully they can introduce tempura or a katsu sando would be amazing.

And I never understood this either. We ordered 3 omakases to share amongst 2 people, and then a ton of a la carte dishes to share. Which were such a beautiful compliment to our omakase dishes. We got the "O" which was a 9 course meal with some cooked and raw options. From the a la carte menu, we ordered the chicken karaage, agedashi tofu, hamachi kama, clay pot rice with salmon and roe, sukiyaki noodles, 2 different rolls (tuna and salmon) and of course the uni taster (which were 3 different kinds of sushi from California and 2 from Hokkaido). The agedashi tofu was the worst amongst our group for a weird texture, definitely did not feel like tofu. The best dishes were the uni taster, chicken karraage, and hamachi kama all from the a la carte menu. And from the omakase, definitely the sushi platter (which were 10 pieces of sushi) and the soba noodles were so amazing! The sushi rice here were so delicious! This is how you can tell a authentic sushi restaurant vs not. Overall, definitely recommend and absolutely order a la carte to get a full tasting of the dishes.
