Oh boy, this place is delicious for breakfast. It does get busy here, especially on weekend mornings, so be prepared to wait ! I recommend the blueberry stuffed french toast - it is pure heaven. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at King Street Cafe early last Sunday. We were seated immediately at a table but by the time we left,there was a large number of people waiting to be seated. Portions are large including the oversized Mickey pancake and scrambled egg kids option. My family and I have visited a handful of time over the years. I'm not sure why I keep coming back but as it's always crowded I must be missing something others really like about it. Each time we have been there, it's very crowded, and people are waiting both inside and outside to get in. No problem, I get some places are popular. But they don't use speakers to announce when ready for a customer and even have a sign on the desk saying they won't come out side to get your party so you have to keep coming in to check. Come on, how is that any way to treat people willing to wait to eat there? The inside is somewhat dark in places, has a high ceiling in the middle, and a ton of hard surfaces, so there is constant noise and the place gets fairly loud. Not what I'm looking for on a breakfast trip on the weekend. And frankly, most of the place is pretty ugly - it's got a very weird feel about the decor (or lack thereof). The (broken?) cooler sitting near the reception desk didn't add to the 'ambiance' either. Our server started our recent visit by complaining about how busy it was. Looking at the menu, we saw mostly standard stuff, and when we got our food, that's what we got - very average breakfast stuff. In a comfortable place with less wait I might not care, but the food + higher prices + noise + wait = no way I want to ever go back here. BTW on the menu they offer "Texas Toast" french toast. I ordered it and got two barely brown slices of regular white bread sized french toast. I sent it back and asked to remove it from the order - they came back and said "it was thicker but the cooks mash it down". WTF? You don't mash french toast, this makes it dense and tougher to eat, you want to keep it lighter and fluffier. Then even though I sent it back, someone dropped off a new order that was basically the same. Some advice for the place; install speakers inside and out to announce people for the tables if you are too lazy to walk around and yell it out. Add some sound abatement (cloth panels/hangings on walls and ceilings), add some room dividers to break up the space, put lighting in the dark areas, and if you are going to charge higher than average prices, get a kitchen that actually makes above average food. You are clearly getting lots of customers - start investing in the space and food. read more

Let me say that I have never been to the King Street Cafe and now I never will go. A dear friend of mines wife had a stroke in March. She is now in a wheel chair and was ready to go to a restaurant for the 1st time since her stroke ( and was excited to try King Street) . While restaurants such as this typically do not take reservations, I called and politely explained my situation to not one, but two people at the cafe. I explained that we needed a table for 4 that could accommodate a wheel chair and is there any way they could PLEASE take a reservation. The first employee simply said we don't accept reservations under any circumstance but that the cafe wouldn't be very busy at 10am on a Saturday. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That is probably their busiest time. The 2nd employee simply said no reservations. The King Street Cafes, lack of compassion, understanding and their unwillingness to make an exception was disappointing to say the least. There is definitely lots of competition on the weekends to eat here too, so choose wisely to when you go! Now in terms of food.. I STRONGLY advise you to order one of the eggs benedict dishes that comes along with their incredible home fries. I find these two to be the most special on the menu and of course, very delicious! We used to go here ALL the time in high school. I thought it was overpriced and wasn't my favorite then. I went back with my husband and daughter and it was awesome. The menu hasn't changed and our food was great. They have a ton of breakfast options including a very reasonably priced hungry man special that actually fed the hungry man at our table. Lots of basic breakfast options with some delicious specialty pancakes, pumpkin and the cookies n cream were ordered at our table. Coffee was flavorful. Atmosphere was good. Even though the place was busy, we never felt crowded or rushed. The place was loud enough that we could talk at a normal volume and hear each other without hearing other people's conversation.
