[[HIGHLIGHT]]From the outside, there may not be much about Kingchops that stands out in any sort of way, but the interior is another story - the decor reminded me so much of some of the eateries/cafes I've been to in Asia.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] More importantly, though, the menu is pretty interesting. As their name suggests, pork chops are their specialty and offer it as part of several different dishes, but they have so much more to offer. Whether you want something light or heavy, they have a solid selection of classic appetizers, soups, street foods, braised dishes, rice plates, both dry noodles and noodle soups, and dumplings to choose from! -- BRAISED PORK RICE Sadly, this left me feeling super conflicted. On the plus side, the pork was super tender and had a sort of lusciousness to it. On the other, the portion of pork felt light relative to the rice bowl and both some of the pork and the sauce felt rather fatty. -- DRY PORK CHOP NOODLE Ehh...this was fine. Not surprisingly, the pork chop was my favorite part of this dish, as the batter was crispy and the pork was decently juicy. However, while I liked the egg and the noodles, the ground pork was a bit dry and there was a ton of bean sprouts. Even though nothing that we tried impressed us as much as I had hoped, everything was far from awful. A small change here and a tiny tweak there easily could've changed things. Plus, service here is pretty solid, as the workers were friendly and our dishes came out quickly, and the prices are relatively budget friendly, especially for what you get. It's just that, given how it's Irvine, it feels like you don't have to go far to find alternatives that taste the same or better. All in all, I definitely wouldn't mind coming back, especially given how popular Kingchops seems to be and so that I can try a few items in particular, but, in the mean time, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

I had to come here and try their Crispy Pork Chop. I've been seeing too many pics pop up on my feed and I have been craving it for a while. Their menu seems like it may have a lot of items but it's a variety of starters, soup and rice dishes. I had ordered the Crispy Pork Rice, Cold Cucumbers, Spicy Wonton, and Braised Pork Belly Rice to try out. The verdict on the crispy pork is as I expected, it was delicious and that in itself would probably be the one item I will order again.

It doesn't have the super crunch like a fried pork belly but the seasoning was very tasty. The cold cucumbers went so good with everything and even itself as it had a good flavor, and crisp to it. The wontons were nice, spicy and...

Been wanting to try Kingchops and we just happen to be in Irvine to try it for dinner. Parking is relatively easy, but can be difficult with the amount of restaurants and businesses in the plaza. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very small restaurant, with limited seating. They've definitely maximized the amount of seating in the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The wait is relatively quick though. Service is quick friendly. Price is very fair for what you are getting and it's nice. Food wise, definitely get the porkchop rice plate. It's well cooked, seasoned and a good balance with some rice, noodles, veggies, and protein. I would pass on the braised pork rice. The pictures on the menu and on the displays made it look so appetizing, but what came out was just average and not like the pictures. Definitely fell victim to the in-store advertisements. The pork was okay, small portion, but I think it's fair for price. A lot of rice too. The popcorn chicken was also good, good amount of seasoning, well cooked. Portion size was a decent and good snack while you eat. Teas are also good. The black tea in particular is strong and has an herbal grass jelly taste to it, while the green tea is lighter and more refreshing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good place to eat for a nice casual meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came to Kingchops on a Wednesday night craving some porkchop rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is quiet and unassuming[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], I have never heard of it until I found it on yelp the day we went. The staff was kind but we didn't interact much since the ordering in fully online through your phone. Food was alright, I wish the porkchop came out crispier but the tomato egg really hit the spot. For the price, you get great variety on your plate and it's a really satisfying meal overall.

Good experience overall. Their popcorn chicken rice plate was good and simple. The pork chops are crispy and very tasty. This is my second time at Kingchops and once again I really enjoyed the food. The large portion of food you get for the price is such a good value! The porkchop is so delicious and I love the vegetable sides it comes with. We ordered the green tea and black tea with our meal and they were the perfect compliment. You order through your phone using the QR code on the table and pay up front. The lady working today was really nice and welcoming. She greeted us immediately with a smile and got us water. Great customer service from her. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance in the store is so so pretty with the vines hanging from the ceiling. This is a great spot if you just want some Taiwanese food that hits the spot. I got the signature beef noodle and the chicken leg rice. The signature beef noodle came with your classic daikon, pickled mustard flavoring, and the noodle was nice and QQ! The chicken leg rice was nice and crispy without being too oily, and the rice typically comes with the minced pork topping which we opted out for since we didn't eat pork. The rice dish also came with a side of seaweed egg drop soup. Great flavors and great portions! I also got a side of jasmine green tea for only an extra $3! The service was nice and quick, and everyone was very friendly! The tables comes with drawers of utensils so you can get them yourself, and ordering is done through the QR code located at each table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was your typical casual dining, and had nice music in the background.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely give them a try!

Service was quick, but we also went when they first opened (5pm crowd). I like that you order off the menu via website. It makes the experience more enjoyable when you can order when you feel ready, but they still checked on us before to ask if we had any questions. The popcorn chicken was good, it had a strong basil flavor too. I am not a fan of wood ear mushroom, so I just left it to the side. Food came out quick as well! The had a cold noodle on the menu that I'd like to try next time as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant can get a little noisy, as the volume felt a little high and there were only two parties in there, but it's a casual dining experience so I didn't expect quiet either.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I love the pork cutlet and all of its sides. It's juicy and has a good crunch. I got the regular size. Previously, the regular size came with more pork chop and a soup. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy Taiwanese spot for a quick lunch/dinner, with some dishes being better than others.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant is fast-casual, and you are required to scan the QR code for the menu and to order your items. There was one server working at the restaurant, who was very friendly and dropped off our ordered items. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is so-so, as you can see and hear everyone else in the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The plates average between $16-18 now, and we ordered popcorn chicken rice, pork chop rice, and pork chop noodle soup. The best item was the popcorn chicken rice, as the popcorn chicken was perfectly fried and had a ton of basil (which i love). The pork chop was tasty, but not the best I've had. The rice dishes came with a side of rice and (tiny bit of minced pork), sauteed cabbage and steamed broccoli. Sides were nothing to write home about. They also came with a seaweed soup starter, which was too salty to finish. The noodle soup was not good, the broth was flavorless, the vegetable was boiled lettuce (?) and noodles were overcooked. For me, the only thing worth coming back for is popcorn chicken or porkchop.

We had the braised pork rice bowl, fried pork chop rice, and popcorn chicken. When we went I think we smelled that someone ordered stinky tofu. I honestly don't mind the smell as I like stinky tofu, but it's not for everyone. The braised pork with rice is great, I've always loved braised foods and the Taiwanese version of it hit the spot. Great flavor and a soft bite. The fermented greens goes hand and hand with braised foods. The fry on the pork chop was crunchy and not too oily. It was not dry at all and it paired well with the pickled veggies that it comes with. The popcorn chicken was decent, always love eating the crunchy bits of basil it normally comes with.

I've been skeptical of Taiwanese pork chops for a while. I've tried and tried to find a decent plate of Taiwanese pork chops whenever the opportunity comes up... but I've failed each time. Until now. Kingchops is the quintessential place for homey Taiwanese pork chops and fried chicken, among other things. In addition to a nice hot plate of crispy, meaty and savory pork chops, you also get pork chop rice, potato salad, seasoned and steamed broccoli and some pickled radishes on the side. Still solid 4 stars. I kept going back to kingchops for the pork chop. You can't go wrong with that. Took parents there tonight and they ordered the chicken leg. There was a little bit of blood coming out from the chicken, so parents stopped eating. Again, my advise is to stick with the pork chop. Tried pretty much every item on the menu by now. The best is pork chop with dry noodle. The veggie and the beef noodle soup are a little bland for me. The staff was doing a really good job refilling the complimentary green tea. I was probably offered at least 4x for refill, and I had to finally say no thank you. Don't forget to check in and get a free 16oz green tea to go! read more

Update: Recevied the refund next morning. The owner explained that the system could only issue full refund instead of partial. Also, free side dish if we decided to come back next time. I like how they have handled my situation. We placed phone order and drive 30+min just to get our meal without pork chop... We don't live in that area so we called and tried to get refund, but the server said their credit card machine wouldn't allow to issue refund and they will zelle/Venmo the refund after owner's approval. I guess the owner thinks it's reasonable to charge their customer full price without giving the star of the meal... read more

Finally got a chance to eat here post covid! It's been on my list for ages, so I'm glad I bit the bullet and came in. Ordered: pork chop rice, pork chop noodle/dry, and spicy wontons (pork) The rice entree comes with egg/tomatoes, tofu, pickled cucumbers, woodear mushrooms, rice topped with minced pork, and a good portion size of pork chop. I was pleasantly surprised with the dry noodle dish which had pickled mustard, mince pork, bok choy, and a whole egg. Even though the items are ordred TO GO, my noodles still remained hot and chewy. Definitely becoming a fan of dry noodles, but will dry the soup version next! The spicy wontons do have a subtle numbing feeling, but nothing too special to get worked up about. OH! Each entree also comes along with a small side soup. It's a tad bland but I guess it helps cut through everything you've eaten so far. Wasn't expecting that so felt like a bonus. Can't wait to test out the rest of the menu. read more

OVER 4-5 EMPLOYEES CHATTING WITHOUT MASKS ON IN FRONT OF UNCOVERED FOOD!!!! There were over ten people in this small store while I was ordering and I'm pretty sure I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER. They were chatting behind the checkout counter, some of them didn't even put mask on, when the order was ready from the kitchen, they continued chatting without mask on in front of the uncovered food. Especially during the Coronavirus high risk time, I can't believe there were over ten people in this small shop and they were not customers, they didn't respect themselves or the customers who trusted them. Kingchops was one of my favorite Asian reasturant but starting from now I will not return. I believe there are many customers who care about their families so they choose to use takeout or delivery instead of in house dinning, and the most important thing is they trust Kingchops just like I used to. But now I don't and will never recommend to my friends and family again . I feel very very disappointed in the choice this shop has made. ( I threw away my orders.) read more

Called in take out of cold bean curd & pork chop with rice. Friendly greeting walking in, staff were masked up and following social distancing protocols. The order was ready, just made a quick credit card payment, no cash accepted. Both dishes were tasty & inhaled quickly. Also came with a free jasmine green tea. The pork chop was amazing and flavorful! The popcorn chicken was actually so delicious and juicy, and there is a student discount right now because of its ten year anniversary. The pork chop bento is 12 dollars and such a steal for the amount of food given, and I'd definitely recommend this place! Will be back soon and anticipate myself to come here every week read more

I'm always looking for a good authentic Taiwanese restaurant here in the States and they seem to have become harder to come by these days even in Southern California where there's a good sized Taiwanese population. Most restaurants claiming to be "Taiwanese" can best be described as a Taiwanese fusion restaurant. This place is a solid 3.5 stars. Better than 3 stars, but not quite to 4 stars. During lunch, there was only one other table occupied. That's not a good sign. Their pork chop rice is good, not the best that I've eaten, but it's pretty darn good in the Irvine area. Besides the big self serve bottle of water that they gave me, they also gave me a small cup of free tea. I would like to come back and try the other items on their menu. This place is supposed to be pretty famous, but if business doesn't pick up, most likely this place with have to fold since rent's got to be high in Irvine especially for a location that's across the street from an university. read more

This is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant in Irvine. They did a real good job at setting up their restaurant to ensure maximum social distance. Whenever I come get their pork chop rice, their employee always wear masks and gloves. Their website is also very convenient. You can place order online and tell them what time you want to pick up the food. They put the food right next to the store entrance so it's super convent and safe!!! A 3.5 but I've rounded it to a 4 because of the food. This is one of my family's favorite restaurant to go for some authentic Taiwanese pork chop. The food here is excellent we always order the pork chop with rice or noodles and the bamboo shoots are great. No doubt this restaurant's food is excellent. They also give you a cup of jasmine green tea for free. However, the quality is not always the same in regards to the rice. We've noticed that the rice was not cooked through completely for a couple of times that we've visited. I'm not sure if it is because they were short on time, but for such delicious food it is a shame that they can not get the rice cooked properly. Next, the service here is not the best. It's convenient how they allow customers to seat themselves however once you are seated it takes them almost 5 minutes to bring you the menu, and they only bring it to you when you keep eyeing them or flag them down. Next, when you want to order it is the same procedure all over again. When they deliver the food and you say thank you they don't respond and just walk away. I seriously love the food here it is the most authentic taiwanese pork chop in OC and brings me back home to Taiwan but the consistency of the quality and their service seriously can use drastic improvement. read more

My question is: if you knew your behavior required an apology afterward, why treat customers that way in the first place? Customers should not be made to feel like an inconvenience simply because they are dining with a larger group or placing a larger order. We came to enjoy a family meal, not to be spoken to with hostility and publicly embarrassed. Unfortunately, this experience completely overshadowed the food.

I had a really unpleasant experience at this restaurant. When I arrived, I let the waitress know that my phone camera wasn't working, so I couldn't scan the QR code menu. I politely asked if there was a printed menu available, but she was very dismissive and just said, "Only QR code." When I tried to explain, she cut me off and told me to just use the takeout site without realizing it was for takeout orders. I placed my order anyway, and she said it was fine. After waiting a while, she told me she hadn't received my order. I reminded her it was a to-go order since I couldn't access the dine-in menu. She eventually found it, and I asked if I could just eat there. At first, she said no because it was marked as takeout. When I reminded her again about my camera issue, she finally said, "Fine, you can eat here," but with such attitude that I felt uncomfortable and just left. To top it off, she didn't even include any utensils with my order and she didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding. I love this place so dang much. My boyfriend recently introduced me here and I've already been back a couple times now. Definitely developed a newfound love for Taiwanese food. I've tried the Spicy Wonton Noodles, which is served dry and totally delicious. The wontons are big and juicy and I just love that I get to have two of my favorite things in one dish: wontons and noodles. They also top it off with this minced pickled vegetable (similar to relish, but not relish) and all the flavors just go together so well. Their pork chops are FANTASTIC but I must say, I fux with their chicken legs more. I typically order one of these guys with my Spicy Wonton Noodles. Everything is relatively inexpensive but for those looking for the best bargain, they do have a combo dish where you can get Taiwanese Noodle (dry or soup) with a side of pork chops. Also - SHOUT OUT to Wilson and the rest of their friendly staff. Wilson was really helpful during my first visit and gave lots of good recommendations, including the chicken leg tip. 5 stars for the food and 5 stars for the service! My favorite here is the pork chop noodle. You have the option to choose whether you'd like soup or dry noodle. I usually get it with the delicious pork bone broth however I am starting to really enjoy the dry noodle ever since they started serving complimentary free green tea. I think the free green tea is served all day but for dine-in only and you get free boba with check-in. The deep fried pork chop is marinated to perfection, juicy on the inside and not too oily on the outside. The service here is always on point and attentive. Love this restaurant!!! I ordered their spicy beef noodle soup and it is the best I've had in OC. The soup has a spicy flavor with a Sichuan pepper kick to it. The soup base is not very heavy, but had a rich vegetable and tomato taste to it. Beef slices are not overcooked. I love how they included a piece of radish and couple pieces of tendon in the soup. Overall I think this is a better beef noodle soup than other places I have tried at in OC. I will come try their signature pork chop and chicken leg next time!!! Read the reviews on YELP and quite a few people recommended the Chill Chicken. Right away, they welcome you with a smile. Not too many Caucasians which is a good sign. :) Robert, one of the servers, was very helpful. He recommended the Chill Chicken "dry" which means without sauce. Right choice. I also had it on a hot plate so it's sizzling. Right choice again. And with steamed rice. It was delicious! The portions are very generous. Nice decor. Clean. Welcoming. My experience didn't meet expectations, especially the beef noodle soup--the broth was quite bland and lacked depth, and the beef was very tough and difficult to chew. The braised dishes were just average, nothing particularly memorable. The fried chicken leg had an overly thick coating, which affected the texture. This place seriously has the best pork chop rice I've ever had in my life.. I've been eating Taiwanese food all my life, both in the U.S. and in the motherland and Kingchops probably has the most authentic taste in my opinion. I used to love this place but this time was very disappointed. We ordered the chicken rice and the side dish was extremely salty to a point it was bitter and yucky, can't be swallowed. The chickens were also over fried. The beef from beef noodle was not as tender as before and the wonton noodle was too oily. Sorry to say these but hoping the food quality could improve. read more
