First and foremost, my friends and I walked in and were welcomed so kindly by the whole staff right away! We were seated very quickly and were welcomed by our waitress Cindy who did a FANTASTIC job! She needs a raise! Literally! She is an absolute angel! Very very sweet & even after one of our friends spilled her drink, Cindy was so urgent to help clean up and brought her a new drink and so very kind about it. The staff checked up on us to make sure we were doing okay and to make sure the food was great. Also the food came out very promptly. I absolutely give a round of applause to this establishment! UPDATE REGARDING OWNER's reply: I saw people being turned away. You were short-staffed, I understand. But when we patiently waited for almost 1.5 hrs, finally got seated. Waited for another 30 minutes and not a word from anyone. People came in after us, seated after us already got their drinks and orders taken. That's not excusable. Don't tell me I picked the wrong time to criticize. I wrote an honest review. There were 3-4 waitresses, 2 people in the front and a manager (I assumed). They ran all over the place. They didn't have a section where they could focus on certain customers. Very unorganized. Don't blame the hurricane. ‼STAY AWAY‼. This place is a mess. It's in the basement of the Hyatt Hotel. We walked down and could smell a weird odor...should've left right away but due to Hurricane Lane, not a lot of places to go. There were a couple in front of us. The woman at front desk was too busy talking on the phone and doing something on the computer. Took her about 10 minutes and was able to get on the list. She didn't even said how long. Then an older guy came out. He ran around like a chicken without a head. Not getting much done. He picked and chose who to put on the list. A lot of people left. After 30 min, we were told it would be 20 minutes. Waited over an hour. Why? I guess I was stupid. Finally after 1.5 hours, they seated us in a corner. Sat and waited for about 20 minutes, no water and no one came to take our order. People that came after us were seated and got their orders taken. So after 30 min, we left. Here's the kicker - as we were leaving, they said "thank you, come again!" I said "not even when you're the last restaurant on earth." Wasted 2 hours at this freaking place. They're the most unorganized restaurant I've ever seen in my life. The waitresses were running all over the place. They were all yelling in Chinese across the room. Everything was overpriced. If you're looking for dim sum, go to Tim Ho Wan (super good food and reasonable prices). Just stay away if you can. Waikiki is not short of places to eat, eat elsewhere...trust me. This place never seems to disappoint we come to Honolulu every year if not twice a year. Amy and Cindy are wonderful people, they make you feel right at home. The food here is always very good, fresh and tasty. We had the potstickers as an appetizer which were wonderful and we had the bbq pork fried rice and salt and pepper pork chops everything was delicious. Last year we decided to try the dim sum which was very good. We are planning to go back for lunch this year again for the dim sum we can't wait. I was concerned when we saw those broadway-style menus out front; and I was concerned when we left unsatisfied and with a $241 bill. The crab here is very, very expensive ($38/lb) and one crab is about 2lbs so be prepared to pay. The crab had been cut up and covered with a black bean sauce that had a very slimy texture. This was the best dish at Kirin. I chose the shrimp special which is ($45/pound) based off of other yelp users' reviews. The shrimp were slightly overcooked and had a rubbery texture. The last three dishes we had were inedible. We had scallops with sweet/sour sauce that were disgustingly sweet. We had another dish that was fish in chili oil ($21). The fish was overcooked. Finally, we had a beef noodle soup where both the noodles and the beef were overcooked. We informed our server who shrugged and took the 3 dishes away with no comment. read more

I just had dinner at this great restaurant here in Hawaii and was delightfully surprised by how amazing the food and service was. They ran this place amazingly and was always checked up on and water was filled all the time. The management at this restaurant was exceptional he was always helping the customers and checking up on people to see if everything was going well. The food was amazing I had a great dish which was jumbo shrimp and it was great and the appetizers were great. Also the Ambience of the restaurant was fantastic and keep very clean.
