We have this place another try after almost a year. What a shame! We started off with fried mushrooms with ranch. Mushrooms were okay But the ranch was way too sour. Our waiter was very nice , but he kept taking our plates before we were finished with them. I had the fried shrimp which were probably SeaPak or Gorton's store bought breaded shrimp. Same with cocktail sauce. My daughter had a grilled ham and cheese, it was way too greasy. She also got the potato soup which was also very very sour , I know cuzz I tried it. My wife had the tomato basil soup, it was very good. Her salad was not, the balsamic dressing was weird tasting. My grandson had the kids Alfredo pasta which was sour tasting as well. Who doesn't love a thoughtful and quaint restaurant that's not a chain? I do!!! Kitchen Tales is a Hidden little gem on 105 in Conroe located at the end of a strip mall. Service was delightful and menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is a plentiful. Went for lunch and had an awesome and flavorful way-over-sized Chicken Ginger Sesame Salad with refreshing cold mandarin oranges - salad was fresh, crunchy and ta-lish. My tablemates enjoyed a cup of hot French Onion Soup and Grilled Sandwiches (which the sandwiches were just like the salad ....oversized and enough for 2). This place is consistently good!!! All items we've had taste of quality ingredients. They have new items on their menu, just rolled out this week per our server. My breaded pork, fettuccine with alfredo/pesto was great. My husband's pork chop was cooked perfectly (no pink, we don't do undercooked pork) and was seasoned just right. Where to start?? The service was impeccable! Seriously. My husband and I were VERY impressed. The food was so good!!! The cheese crab balls were amazing and the chicken Parmesan was the perfect suggestion from our server on that freezing cold Friday night before Valentine's Day. Our server could not have been more accommodating -- but not in the annoying way how some servers hover over you, not at all!! She was there just enough to keep the table clear and check on us. I LOVE KITCHEN TALES! They have never disappointed me whether it be the food, service, and overall environment. Never go without the spinach artichoke dip as a starter, you'll miss out for sure. They have good drinks as well, maybe on the higher price side but very well crafted. The chicken fried chicken is always my go to choice but I can also give a thumbs up to the rice bowl and meatloaf. We happened upon this place as trying to find a breakfast spot that's not an IHOP, and really enjoyed our meal here. The place was clean, staff was friendly, and food was yummy. Their cheese sauce was soooo good. Even the coffee was good. They seem more of a wine bar/restaurant, but their breakfast dishes were still on point. We would love to return for dinner. Our entrees were Breakfast Hash and Filled Biscuits and Gravy. Wow! Huge portions. The biscuits were such a hit, especially that cheese sauce. We recently had lunch at Kitchen Tales. We chose breakfast items as we both love those dishes. I had an omelette and my wife chose chilaquiles. Both dishes were top notch and we cleaned out plate. But, we did have a problem. I'm not sure if it was the capacity (about90%) or a small AC system but we were very uncomfortable with the heat. By the time we finished eating, we were both sweating. One of the best versions I've ever had of this. Small bar with 2 TVs to watch sports if need be. Some local craft brews and wine with liquor license coming in a few weeks. They treat their disabled employees horrible. Making hearing impaired wait staff wear headsets that interfer with their ability to hear. Telling them to wear it or be fired. Which is unlawful underthe ADA. Food is very good though. read more

Well, we heard all the hype and we've given it a TWO chances. All I can say is that the mashed potatoes are watery, the green beans are soggy, the chicken fried steak is waaayyyyu thin (the crust is really tasty and crisp on it though) but the photo shows and what was inedible and which the dogs will now get. The kitchen is slow and the servers are clearly understaffed. MAYBE breakfast is better? Oh well, we may have to give it ONE last shot before writing off this restaurant read more

We chose this place after seeing they had sweet potato fries. When we were seated the server confirmed that they were delicious and we were not disappointed as they were sweet, tangy and crispy. For an appetizer we tried the golden avocado bites. They were good but a bit too crunchy and dry for my taste, though the tamarind cashew sauce was interesting and pretty good. He got the shrimp and grits. They were great! Perfect consistency and very filling. My favorite was my gourmet salad. The combination of candied walnuts, thin apple slivers and and blue cheese with a blue cheese dressing was perfect. The staff was very friendly and we got our food pretty quickly. Stop by today and picked up a Togo order. First time eating here and im disappointed. We ordered the Greek salad, avocado golden bites and the south western rice bowl. First I opened the Greek salad and saw the cucumber on it was brown . Then I bit into the avocado golden bites. They were dark brown inside. Was expecting to see a little green like most avocado egg rolls you get from other places. But these were dark brown like the avocado was old and they were still trying to use it. Needless to say after that didn't want to eat my south western rice bowl because it to was probably contained old produce and chicken. Looking for the unexpected gem, look no more. We walked in expecting burgers and fries food but were pleasantly surprised with high end cuisine snuck in next to the chicken fried chicken. My two toddlers couldn't put the Alfredo pasta in their mouth fast enough. My wife settled in with the chicken fried chicken. No knife needed as she was able to cut it with a fork tender and delicious. I had the lobster and Shrimp Mac and cheese. The balance between the seafood and pasta was magnificent. I was in the Conroe area and decided to try this restaurant. It was in an unassuming strip mall with a casual atmosphere. I ordered the chicken fried steak ($13 with 2 sides) with mashed potatoes and a garden salad. First off, the garden salad I received looked fabulous, full of fresh greens and baby lettuces with finely chopped tomatoes and carrots on top. What you would expect from a fine dining restaurant, but here? I must say that I did not care for the ranch dressing served as I thought it tasted like diet ranch to me. Unfortunately, I poured the dressing on top before I tasted it. After a few bites, I asked the waiter for a new salad. He wasn't sure what to do, but he took the salad and brought me a new one. This time, he brought it out with a thousand island dressing. It tasted homemade with a slight kick to it and was a big hit to me. You may wonder why I am making such a big deal about the salad and dressing, but this salad was awesome and unexpected. My chicken fried steak was good sized, crisp and properly seasoned with a good portion of gravy and it did not disappoint. I really liked that it was not pounded too flat to make it look bigger as the meat to breading ratio was just spit on for me as it was on the meatier side. Delicious! The mashed potatoes were nice and fluffy as well. My brother ordered the fried combo seafood platter (15.95 with 2 sides). There were two catfish pieces and about 5 or 6 good sized shrimp. The catfish was crispy with moderate breading and the white flaky flesh tasted fresh, except it had the distinctive, catfish flavor. My wife loved it and said it tasted fresh, but I apparently have been spoiled by all of the restaurants serving "swai" as catfish which does not have the this "catfish" flavor. I also tried one of the shrimp, and it was perfect with the homemade red sauce and the tarter sauce. I also took a few shoestring fries which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The only problem was that I found them a bit too salty. (Don't worry, I traded some of my large, chicken fried steak so my brother did not leave hungry) Overall, I think they had a good selection of beer on tap and I saw several tables had wine, but I did not see the wine list. I ordered Blue Moon on tap, and it was served with the classic orange slice (kudos). The dessert selection ($5-7 range) looked good from pecan cobbler to a ginger crusted cheese cake, but I did not order (maybe because I ate my brother's food) but I will next time. This place is not fancy, but it looked like everything was running smooth, and I would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. read more

All the food here has great flavor!!!! It's mostly comfort food, but it's all good. The service is very good, especially with Keith. The wine list is ok, but there's enough to choose from and they're good wines, especially for the price. It's a large open room atmosphere, so no real romantic tables, but it's quiet enough to have a conversation. I recommend the chicken fried chicken/steak, BBQ or fried pickles cheeseburger or the shrimp and grits. Soups and sandwich/salad combos are great for lunch and my wife really enjoys their southwestern salad. Not a huge selection, but everything is well prepared and tastes great. Nice little spot in Conroe. The interior decor looks better in person than it does in pictures. Perfect casual spot to stop for a great meal. Maybe I've been spoiled with great food and this is located where not much else is to eat but I thought the food was just ok. I ordered the lobster & shrimp mac and cheese. The shrimp was great, the lobster was dry and the penne pasta was cheesy. My girlfriend ordered their Asian salad and added salmon to it. Unfortunately she was not told the salmon was blackened.
