At nearby Fish there was a line 3-persons wide extending far past the front entrance. Are they dropping tour buses there or what? So, we hoofed it until we found Kitti's, with an outside patio (like Fish) but without the bay-side ambience or prices. Kitti's outside patio is in front of the restaurant, abutting a parking lot. Chairs are plastic and tables are covered with oil-cloth throws; it's very casual but clean, not dive-y. The menu skews towards Asian/fusion but has all sorts of other things in there to throw you off balance. We led with fresh spring rolls, I had a Chinese Chicken Salad ($10), and my friend had Fish Tacos. See, what are fish tacos doing on an Asian/fusion menu? Still, all things sampled were tasty enough and it was nice to be able to enjoy it outside in the sunshine after a big hike. Others have remarked that this Chinese Chicken Salad is very similar to that which Comforts (San Anselmo) is renowned for and they are correct. It is remarkably similar. The rest of the food was good, like the salad, but nothing that had me jumping up and down. We finished and walked back to our car and those suckers were still lined up at Fish, waiting. We came here around 1:30 ish and the place wasn't too busy. We wanted a table outside for 5 people and the waiter set it up pretty well. The food was okay. Price is ok ok ish. There's bad reviews about customer service here but the servers are actually very nice. There's one lady with the "resting bitch face" but she's actually not bitchy at all. No papaya salad!!! Omgosh!! That's the main reason for going to Thai restaurants, we're visiting from San Diego, this is not a a formal restaurant, it's more like a fast food place. You order at counter, and they'll bring to you, they have beer though, menu is a bit limited. We ordered about 5-6 different items and all were actually great, several different soups, pad Thais and coconut soup, oh and a "pho", and as appetizer, we ordered the "lettuce cups" they were great, it was 7 of us, each lettuce cup order is a three item order, they were awesome and added two bonus cups for a total of 8 cups!! 4 ordered the Thai tea, they were actually pretty strong, but the 3 kids enjoyed them, the service here was awesome and made an additional pitcher watered down with coconut something, either "milk" or water, we were absolutely catered to. At first, I was excited to try my favorite soup from this new place I came across while visiting the area. After picking up my order of Tom Yum soup (main ingredient being mushroom) I ended up ordering from a different Thai restaurant to satisfy my craving because the Tom Yum I ordered from Kitti's place came without the main ingredient-the mushroom. There was a heap of veggies that I appreciated but without the mushrooms I'm thinking "what's the point?" Not sure if I'd ever try this place again. In a word.... FANTASTIC. A co-worker ordered Pad See Eew (which should be renamed Pad See YUM). Best pad thai EVER. And the chicken salad is killer, too. Kitti is always working, thus the semi-strange hours. I believe her mother does a lot of the cooking. The energy is very calm and positive, and Kitti always offers soup if you have to wait at all. Portions are huge - I eat a bit light but mine usually ends up being 3 meals. The BEST Pad Thai I've ever had. And the price is right. It's full of flavor, and yet, after half a dozen visits, I've never had that unsettling 'rumbly in my tumbly' feeling that can sometimes follow experiencing the cuisine. The real reason I haven't reviewed Kitti's Place earlier is because it's secretly our favorite restaurant in Sausalito, and it's one of those hidden secrets that only the locals know about and return to regularly. It's one of those quaint little places that we kind of don't want to get too popular, if you know what I mean. But really we owe so many delicious nights to Kitti's that, well, they deserve it. There's nothing on their menu that I've had that isn't fabulous, but I have a weakness for the Param Pak with chicken... few Thai dishes quite hit the spot like their Param Pak... But really, everything is good. Why? I'm convinced it's because they really do cook with Love. I consistently taste it in the food, and that must be what gives it that magical quality. The whole place is family run, and they are so warm and sensitive to their patrons that they even recognized us by our voices when we once ordered take out over the phone! The service is not just friendly: we feel like sincerely honored guests whenever we go to Kitti's. Kitti's is a must visit for vegetarians and Thai lovers who are looking for something new. If the Thai fish & chips is on the specials menu, and you're up for something totally different than what you might expect, you must try it. It's out of this world. The fish tacos are also something unexpectedly delicious. Bring your sense of daring and an open-minded palette when you come to Kitti's. I've never had dishes like they make them anywhere else. I've eaten here several times and every time I find something new I really like about the place. The Weekly Soups are my latest. Last week was Winter Melon and this week's is Ham and Hominy (did not know what that was but it sure is good). They manage to make each soup have a distinctly unique and stimulating flavor. I'm a soup-hound so this really appeals to me. I can see myself doing some soup take home on a regular basis. The freshness of the ingredients they use combined with the way they mix the spices and seasonings really grabs me. Very good food for foodies imo. The best Pad Thai I've tried in Marin so far. This place is a real find imo and I highly recommend making it a regular choice. They have the variety and are always adding new specials. Okay, I feel bad doing this, I usually only write positive reviews, but this one I gotta write ... Just had lunch here and it was awful. Had Pad Kee Mow and it was utterly and completely without flavor (well, good flavor). Asked if it was spicy and they said it was. It even has the "*" warning on the menu, so I was hoping it would really be Thai hot. It tasted like it was out of a can. Asked if the chicken was white meat and was told they only use breast. What came was ... ground chicken? Hmmm, never seen that before. It certainly didn't taste like it was all white meat and it tasted off on top of that. The "spicy sauce" that I asked for after I discovered it was not spicy at all, was like a tomato paste with a few bits of ground pepper. Lastly, the young woman who served me was unfriendly. I feel bad about this review but I felt I had to do it. I tried to call the restaurant after the meal to tell them that I thought the meat tasted off and the phone number goes to a fax machine? Ugh. I've never been so disappointed with Thai food!!! Came here for a team lunch, ordered Tom Yum Soup...and did not get Tom Yum. Haha, let me explain. It might be because this place is Americanized, but the soup came with so many other vegetables and NO LEMONGRASS OR CILANTRO. What?! Tom Yum without lemongrass or cilantro?! Blasphemy. With an empty restaurant, it took 15 minutes to get a cup of soup. Seriously? The broth was flavorful, but the chicken was a chew toy, insanely over cooked and gnarly looking. The soup cups themselves seemed like they were handled without any care, and sloshed around, leaving a red oil everywhere. The cuisine at this place confuses me. It's not fusion, it's fusion confusion. Do not blend cuisines when you don't know how, and this place clearly has no idea what they're doing. The fish tacos were a build your own dish. For $14, I have to assemble my own tacos? The avocado was just mush, very oxidized and brown, and the tortillas were cold and flaccid. They actually put jack cheese on this, which just made it gross. You do not put jack cheese on fish! The crab quesadilla tasted like, jack cheese, and was served cold. The crab was flavorless, the mango salsa was tasteless and watery, the tortilla still seemed raw and was very chewy, and there was nothing vibrant or tasty about it. It just tasted like cheese and flour and some tasteless sauce. The salad came undressed, and the server actually had the nerve to tell me my salad was dressed without looking at it. After about a minute, I finally was able to negotiate getting "extra" salad dressing. The greens in my salad were old and of low quality. I had to pick a bunch of them out as they were rotten. No food poisoning for me today, thank you! None of our entrees were served at the same time, and they were served before our soup cups were cleared, which was another good 15 minutes. For a lunch service, it was painfully slow. It took almost an hour to get in and out, and we had to take half of our gross food to go because we ran out of time. Our server was absolutely clueless and should be fired. He was a disservice to the restaurant. The food was badly conceived and carelessly prepared. The silverware was dirty, the plates were dirty, and the menus probably would do well to be run through the dishwasher as well, as they were also very dirty, sticky and greasy. This restaurant is getting ready for kitchen nightmares. There are better places to eat, save your money. read more

One of the best Thai places I have ever been too. Very authentic and perfect spice level.

The first thing I noted about Kittie's Place was the location. Parking isn't the best; in fact, it's in a narrow one-way strip off the main row. If you can find parking nearby during mealtime, you're golden! Second was just how busy it was. It's good to see such a small restaurant doing a lot of business in this tough economy, but in the midst of a 2PM weekday "meal rush", it was a tad stifling, and VERY loud. The waitress had to round the counter to ask if we were staying for lunch. After being seated, it was a set of wait times. Wait five minutes for drink orders. Wait ten for them to be delivered... And if your waiter walks away before you have a chance to add to your order? Be prepared to wait til he runs by again. What I did particularly enjoy was the thai iced tea. Delicious! After finally getting our food, things started getting better. Let me just say, for the price the portions are GIANT! I ordered the Seafood Gumbo, which had a good amount of spice without blowing my head off. The bits of sausage in it was my favorite part. The only complaint was that it needed a bit more rice (possibly white and not the 'dirty' rice they used). My fellow diners ordered the Pad Thai, which was delicious and also large in portion, and a combo platter. We ended up eating off eachother's plates, and man was it worth the wait! So overall: Atmosphere = 3/5 ~Crowded and loud, but clean and nicely decorated. Service = 2/5 ~The waiters were friendly but difficult to get a hold of. Extra glasses weren't filled/taken away so they cluttered the table. Food = 5/5 ~Totally made up for the lack of service! I'd definitely go there if only for some of that delicious pad thai! Absolutely the best customer service I have had in a long time. I placed a to-go order and they gave me a cup of soup (which was awesome - carrot and ginger with the right amount of spice heat) and water to drink while I waited. But it wasn't just that that made it a fabulous customer service. They were very kind, more than willing to answer all my questions, patient and attentive! I ordered the drunken noodles and it was one of the best I've ever had!!! Their place is small, but super clean and their decor/furniture is lovely. This is a little gem in sausalito. ( i have never given anyone a 5, but this place was close) I have been going here for about 10 years I usually get the turkey burger and fries (extra crispy) or chicken burger, but the real deal is everything else on the menu. It is all very fresh and healthy. I gave it 5 stars not because I'm comparing it to higher end Thai restaurants but comparing it to other restaurants in it's same more casual category. Regardless, it's fantastic! As I stated, the waitstaff is great. They greet you right away and are never too far away and they do get very crowded! Still, it doesn't take away from your experience there. I love their Pad Thai with prawns and my friend gets the Pad See Ew. Excellent meals! Sometimes we get soup first and it's always tasty. This appears to be a family owned/run business and it's always the first place I think about when I want Thai food. OMG- I can't believe that Kitty's has only been reviewed once! All I can say is that if you have not tried this little gem tucked away in a strip mall, you do not know what you are missing. Everyone is super friendly and the food is to die for! We (co-workers and I) eat there at least once a week. The lettuce cups are delish sometimes we just get those for lunch. The Satay Chicken with Peanut Sauce is sinful. It is a great fusion of Thai/American and they even serve burgers with fries. Great soups, salads, noodle bowls and rice plates. I was offered a complimentary cup of soup while I waited for my order. Third, a stream of locals came in to pick up their take-out, and the owner/manager knew all of them and asked after their families and had pleasant local small-talk. For me, this was the icing on the cake; a caring proprietor and clientele who know and care about each other. There is NO better Pad Thai- period. The Chinese Chicken Salad is simple and simply delicious. All of their produce is always fresh, there just isn't anything that isn't delicious... All of this is important, but what makes a dining experience complete are the people. This is where the 5th star comes in... These people all love what they do and it shows. They make my meal special each time because I like a combination of two of their entrees and they REMEMBER it every time i go there. They also bring you a little sample of soup why you wait and when I'm sitting outside with my girls (2 Shih-Tzu's and a Shepard) they always bring out a bowl of water without me even asking. I am a long time resident of Sausalito and Mill Valley, and have been coming to Kitti's for several years. Friendly owners and staff, attractive decor and outdoor tables help make It the favorite of many other locals in the area. It well deserves five stars. Kitti's consistently serves food that is superior to many Thai restaurants I have tried in Thailand and the Bay Area. It's owned and operated by a personable Thai family, and Mama is the creator of the specials that appear on every day's menu. She is without doubt is one of the best cooks anywhere; many of her creations are based on Thai and other SE Asian dishes. Today, I had Mama's Special for lunch: Panang curry, fresh steamed vegetables, breast of chicken, jasmine rice and wonderful chicken pot stickers, with a separate sauce. She's a true artist, wonderfully creative with the menu, uses completely fresh ingredients, and her homemade soups and sauces make a meal there always a rewarding experience.
