Another solid sushi lunch option in the area! Came in to test out the sushi and got the Spicy Maki Combo lunch special: 6 pieces each of spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy california roll. It's spicy enough that I didn't even need wasabi. I had originally considered just getting two rolls off their lunch menu, but nothing really stood out to me. I would have preferred a crunchy tuna or crunchy salmon roll in the choices. The combo came with soup AND salad, and both were decent sizes. Definitely worth the price. They also didn't skimp on the wasabi, ginger, or soy sauce. The rolls I've tried so far have all been very fresh. I can't comment on the service, but while I was waiting for pickup I was offered tea and water. Would definitely return to check out more of the menu. read more

I've always ordered delivery from Ko but recently thought I'd check out the new outdoor dining they put up during COVID-19. I go for lunch with a friend and we both order from the lunch specials menu. Their 2 roll combo special was perfect and just what we wanted. Plus, plenty of rolls to choose from. At the end, we were given ice cream on the house. The red bean ice cream is to die for- I highly recommend. All staff were very friendly and the establishment was very clean. I came here during lunch break with some coworkers. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. One of our coworkers is a regular here and was immediately personally greeted by the manager like they were close buddies. I ordered the Beef Negimaki Lunch Special and was impressed by the presentation of the bento box along with the portion sizes. I was first disheartened though upon my first bite of the Beef Negimaki by the larger amounts of thick sauce just seemed like it was splattered on top. It was like they cooked the negimaki, plated it, and just dumped the sauce right on. Another is that the beef negimai had to be consumed a mouthful at a time (like sushi) because the scallions make taking small bites of the rolls impossible. This was difficult as all the sauce was on top making consumption all at once too much for my taste buds. In the end I solved this problem by slathering the sauce on the negimaki's onto the steamed rice before eating them. All in all I wouldn't mind coming back to try a different dish. read more

Came here for dinner with some friends. Decor was very nice and a good place for a causal dinner. Staff was very welcoming. Handed us towels to clean our hands and gave us very prompt service. Throughout the night, our cups of water/green tea were like endless pitchers as the staff came in and constantly filled them. Service was superb. Ended up getting the sashimi combo A. Presentation was nice and you get a lot of sashimi for the price, but unfortunately the fish was only OK. The fish was not the freshest. Texture of the fish was mildly chewy and didn't have the nice mildly firm/clean separation in bites I was hoping for. The temperature the fish was served was too cold and tasted like it was left in the refrigerator far too long. The tuna had some crunchiness in it suggesting it wasn't defrosted long enough. The flavors of the fish were masked by the temperature and the lack of freshness. On the upside, there was no fishy-taste though, and they did give us complementary ice cream which tasted great. Summary: I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a restaurant. If you're looking for quantity, excellent service and a nice atmosphere this would be a great place. When I eat sashimi, it's usually for the taste/texture/freshness and not so much to get full, so I can only give this place three stars. read more

Walk past this often because it is in my neighborhood but I tend to be especially fussy about sushi so didn't think to try it until my 7 year old granddaughter came into town and she wanted sushi and I wanted not too fancy. I was very pleasantly surprised. Sushi was good. We tried the yellowtail and scallion rolls, the salmon skin roll, the eel and avocado roll, uni, saba and salmon nigiri. Good unfiltered sake. Uni was not fresh and had stinky taste to it. I asked if the ebi shrimp sushi was raw shrimp, waiter said yes. But when it came out it was cooked shrimp. After a while, they finally switched it to raw sweet shrimp but it did not look appetizing, was TINY, and did not look right... not fresh at all. Was told the market price for uni sushi is $5, but they charged me $6. When I got my bill and asked about it, he nonchalantly said market price went up. Only after I argued that he should've said the right price, then he went back to change the bill. Ok, $1 is not a lot but it's the principle of it. I ordered red dragon roll (forgot the name now) and it was ok... nothing special. Small portion. Not worth the price. I didn't get the complimentary hot towel. Ordered their "Sex on the Beach" and Eel avocado roll. The eel roll was ok as usual. I usually come here for Udon noodle lunches or California rolls during lunch time. This is the first time I came here for their dinner. The eel roll was pricey for the portion of eel one gets. The one star is due to the White Fish that was rubbery and can't tell what fish they substituted it with-- because it doesn't taste like typical sushi of any kind. It's definitely not Hamachi nor White fish. It tasted as if it's Whale or something artificially made fish. Will stay with lunch specials and skip coming here for dinner. Blah! Listen guys: when your sushi place tells you they're sold out of plum wine, just get up and walk out. The spicy salmon roll was warm (I'm dining in by the way).... the spice salmon roll was warm. My Riesling tastes as though they put water in it. If today wasn't such a productive and exhausting day where I really need to sit down and decompress I would have left and walked straight out. Find yourself a better sushi place. There are tons. It's not even that cold in here. Which should have been a sign. But because of my day ... I'm hungry AF/ famished, And need to rest; therefore I feel I have no choice. I'm disappointed. The staff is very nice. The place is clean. I ordered a philly roll with fresh Salmon and the bomb lobster roll. The fish was fresh and they use solid ingredients. When I read the description of the bomb lobster roll my excited and expectations were through the roof. It was good and I would order it again but it didn't move me. Ko Sushi is a great place to grab lunch if you're on the Upper East Side and have time on your hands. They have plenty of tables and I've never waited in the couple of times that I've visited. The decor is nice and has big windows along the side of the restaurant which lets in plenty of sunlight. The service is good and attentive/ quick to serve you. Ko has a pretty good lunch special menu for a decent price. I normally get the Pork Katsu lunch special which comes with either a miso soup or salad, the Pork Katsu , gyoza, rice and veggies. The lunch special fills you up perfectly. Don't miss out on the free ice cream after your meal. You will be offered either green tea or red bean ice cream. Came here last night with a group of six. We asked if they had a table. "One moment" was the response. Less than five minutes later, they created a table for six. I love that... fast service. Shumai - I did not have but the table consensus was it was worth ordering. The gyoza was great (it always is). The live scallop sashimi came on the scallop shell (pretty). One half was a mix of scallops, imitation crab, tiny red roe, and japanese mayo (YAY!), the other half was a thinly sliced piece of scallop on a cucumber slice sitting in a vinegary wine sauce? Very delicate looking - tasty. Yellowtail collarbone =-) Tasty, slightly fried. For my main, I got the lobster with mushrooms for the low price of $24.95. No idea what the sauce was but it was delicious. Dessert was complementary. We got a heaping plate of vanilla, green tea, and red bean ice cream with lychee nuts (yum), oranges, and really cute heart tomatoes topped with a tomato bunny (prompt all the women at the table to aw in unison). When it comes to dining, ambience and decor are nothing as long as the ingredients are well bought, the food well prepared, and the experience a burp-a-licious, dab-dab with the napkin and leave the waiter a fat tip b/c you want them to remember you and treat you well the next time you roll around. Well, service at Ko was great. But the sushi chef didn't know how to handle his knife, cut my sashimi into thick wedges (I don't want to chew on it like a snicker bar!), and the rolls were pathetically underequipped. My spicy tuna roll had this lame, mayo-based tuna mix and it wasn't very spicy. That's it! And it was squished into an unappetizing oblong mess. -_- Maybe I've been spoiled by wonderful sushi joints of cali (particularly san diego). read more

Sushi here is ok. My best experience was with the prawn tempura bento box. The service is decent, usually quick and friendly. They give you the warm towel at the start of the meal. They usually (but not always) offer complimentary ice cream at the end of the meal. Price isn't terrible. Considering I live so close and I love Japanese food I should eat here frequently - but I don't. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because sometimes the sushi is a bit too chewy? Maybe it's because the price feels just a hair too high? Maybe it's because there are sushi options close by that offer better quality at a similar price? This was one of those "Meh" type meals. I'm never really impressed by the food fare on the UES so my standards are usually quite low. Unfortunately the last time I ate sushi was at Sushi Yasada so my taste buds had been spoiled. I ordered a standard sushi and salmon avacado roll with a miso soup from seamlessweb. I also ordered two other rolls for someone else and was remotely peeved when it all came in the same container. I'm all for saving the environment but if I'm ordering lunch for a bunch of people and then we're all sitting around trying to pick through the sushi mash-up I would find it rather irritating. The rolls were rather unremarkable although they did give a generous amount of pickled ginger and wasabi. The miso soup was awful and no amount of seaweed is going to change the lack of taste and unsavory-ness. In the end if I had spent a relatively cheap amount on these rolls I would say I got what I paid for an probably kicked it up a star..but as far as sushi prices were concerned I found this one to be a little more expensive than its counter-parts and incapable of converting my hard earned chizash into a palatable meal. I think the Hunter College cafeteria could have hooked me up better and I wouldn't have had to leave a tip. read more

For an appetizer, my friend and I split the blue crab and avocado salad--a tasty tower to start our meal (and probably more than we needed--that bento box had a lot of food!). During my time at Hunter College, I often venture out to this place whenever there's a call for celebration. Well deserving of 5 stars for several reasons. Lovely decor. Really sticks out around the area. Fresh flowers on each table, quality napkins & utensils. Not that you care anyway, but STILL, I like going to restaurants that have that stuff covered at least. Gets pretty lovely at night with candle lights. The windows to see people walk by is a nice touch. during the summer, those get taken down for a nice breeze. Service is pretty standard. Professional, not rude, to the point, some conversation, etc. Friendly. Food is nothing special. Definitely does not have a wow-factor, but it's decent & good. Fresh. Nothing from the menu stands out, and that's a shame! With such a nice looking spot & service, a little more would make this place super awesome. Still, it caters to those around the area, and I think that's just fine for their style. It's the city--things will get a little expensive. This place is "alright", not gonna make you pay more and leave you feeling unsatisfied. It's right on the money. Definitely not a place you'd go out of your way for, but if you're around and want some good sushi/jap food, it's a place to tap! read more
