Our second suburban sushi adventure was mediocre at best. We were originally trying to eat at C.F. Chengs but with a full room and a wait, we decided on the next open restaurant in the area. The BF ordered the sashimi and hand roll dish. I give the Sashimi 4 stars. They were pretty big cuts of fish. Totally didn't skimp out; which was nice. The hand roll didn't spark any comments from the BF. He just said that it was OK and that he's had better. I ordered the spider roll and requested salmon on top of the roll. The presentation of this dish was just plain boring. No special sauces drizzled over...just blah! AND it tasted blah. Without any special sauces, it tasted dry. The soft shell crab tasted stale like it was fried earlier that day and then added to my roll. I like that the waiter was attentive and checked up on us, however, it was annoying how every time I finished my glass of water he asked if I wanted more. Well...DUH! Of course I want more! Usually, my water glass is refilled without asking. The BF said he'd come back for the sashimi since they gave him such big pieces. He may have to dine alone because I'm not too sure if I really wan to go back. Downtown is still 5 minutes away and I'd rather drive somewhere I know will be good than eat a roll here again. But just to be fair, I'll TRY and come back to try a bento box or noodle dish or something. read more

Signs that the owners are Chinese. - Everything on the menu is labeled like a vending machine: C5, R45.... - The chopsticks they use are from a different restaurant (Is Taiko a sister restaurant?) - No employees are Japanese - No customers are Japanese. But there were 10 old ladies in Christmas sweatshirts having a feast of tempura at the next table. Gosh, I love my peepo. I have no problem with the lack of authenticity. I was really satisfied with the poke salad (extra spicy but small portions!) and the special rolls. If anything, it was overpriced, but the service was really great and the food came out fast. read more

It's hard to believe how long I have lived in Natomas and never tried Kobe. Finally made it in on Friday Evening. Nice place with Blues music playing! I tried the King's roll and also the Crunch a Bunch. They were good, although I liked the Crunch a Bunch the most. I'll be back to try other menu items. read more

Called in an order for pick up based off of recommendations from a Facebook group and will not be back. We ordered six rolls and none of them were good. They all tasted very fishy and the rice had a strong vinegar taste. We couldn't finish them and ended up having to go get dinner from somewhere else. I called back to request a refund for at least half the amount (because it was $70 worth of food) and they said they cannot issue refunds. My boyfriend and I have ordered from here about 5 different times now. It became one of our favorite sushi places. The sushi tastes really good. Due to Covid, we can't dine in, so we order online for pick up. Each time we order, we spend no less than $70. They also charge an online ordering fee. Each time we have picked up, we asked for spicy mayo on the side. This particular time, we spent $100 on sushi and charged $1.64 for spicy mayo. I know, it seems as if I'm only giving a bad review because I was charged for spicy mayo, but after spending $100 on sushi to get charged for sauce?! The food was OK, even the sushi. BUT: There is no mask requirement posted at the front of the establishment. One of the servers and one of the staff behind the sushi counter were maskless the entire time we were there. It's up to you if you want to visit this place despite this, but we will not return. This place USED to be my go-to every single time and I would always have the best time there. Although my frequent visits have stopped, I realized that just like all businesses, this one took the hit from Covid as well. My biggest complaint I would have to say is the amount you get for what you pay for. I understand everyone's struggling to maintain their own business, but the last times I did order, it left me really disappointed, it's not even picture worthy enough to include into this review. The portions have gotten smaller to the point where it might as well be the japantown's sushi in San Francisco, practically overcharged and leaving on a half filled stomach too. I've yet to visit again, but this review will stay for the meantime for those ever wondering how myself being a usual turned out over the years of coming and going here. EDIT: I've read reviews about the new staff and I've encountered some of them myself, in my opinion, not trained well enough, no disciplinary actions taken place especially at the time when I ordered. Needless to say, I've made better use of my time and money / energy else where. I highly recommend Aji Sushi for those who are crazy for AYCE. Kobe is not a destination sushi bar but rather a "I'm hungry, there's sushi right here" kind of place. The place was empty when we walked in, we sat at the bar and were served edamame and soup probably as part of lunch-it was free so that's good! The miso was very salty and the edamame wasn't salty enough. I ordered a Natomas roll and really enjoyed it, it was actually quite good and substantial. My friend ordered a custom roll with seared tuna that they then baked for a moment but it wasn't the best. Unfortunately I will say that this is the worst sushi I have ever eaten. I will definitely not be back and after spending $90 here that was a total waste, I would never recommend this place to anyone. Grocery store sushi is better than this place. First, the quality of the fish and rolls here need some major improvement. Horrible. Disgusting. The fish was not fresh. We ordered the sashimi combo and the albacore was brown! Had an awful texture to it as well. It was not fresh. The only reason why we did not complain was because we already took a bite of everything so I figured, what's the point now. The rolls are small and cheaply made with filler ingredients. They put a ton of rice, barely any crab meat, and add fillers like cream cheese to a zig zag roll that NEVER has cream cheese. It was not good at all. The rolls were tasteless and bland. Had the lion king roll and usually like everywhere else, it's very creamy and tasty with a slight sweetness. Well here, it was compelling inedible! Had an awful salty and extremely sour taste to it. Not sure where the sourness came from but it was not good. For the other rolls, the ratio from rice, crab meat, and veggies were way off. One of the rolls had those shredded white daikon inside but it was too much. I never had a roll that had those shreds in it but when we took a bite, it was all that crunchy daikon with rice and barely any crab and shrimp. The service here was mediocre. Definitely could have been better but the service reflects the food so I guess there's no surprise here. The gentleman server was nice but it was odd having him basically watching us and standing right behind us, leaning on the wall during our meal. For me, having the servers look presentable is important because they interact with the customers and set the mood for the restaurant. Here, poor uniform wear, sloppy look,and saggy pants are accepted. It is unfortunate but I will have to say never again to this "sushi" place. read more

Worst experience ever!!!! Don't go to Kobe Sushi unless you would like to be disrespected. A guy named Scott actually said F it to us when we asked a question about the bill. We had our 2 little children with us as well and that was totally uncalled for. When asked if he was the owner and that's how he treated he's customers, very arrogantly he said yes and that how I run my business. Only to find out from our server that he was not the owner. I felt bad for our server because he was totally rude to her as well. Terrible service and food is subpar, totally not worth it!! My family and I will never set foot there ever again! read more

My number shows up whenever I call (weekly) but today there was "connectivity issues" (I don't believe that to be true) so on my third call in I was advised to "stop fucking calling"...needless to say, I will...but shame on them. Highly highly recommended! Their food is so fresh!! Fresh seafood is so important, but so is fresh produce and man, they do not fall short anywhere. To begin, no employees at this restaurant we're wearing any masks (front of house or back of house)- this should have been a warning sign since we still have a mask mandate. Secondly, upon my arrival to the restaurant (I had just 2 mins prior received a message that my food was ready from DoorDash)- my food was in a White to go box sitting on a side table. I'm sure that my meal was sitting on the side table for quite some time as my meal was no where near correct temp when I checked on the items when I went home (nearby the restaurant). I should have trusted my gut- but I ended up with food poisoning from incorrect holding temperatures on this sushi received here. I asked for a refund and they claimed they couldn't give me one because I ordered online, and that I have to go through the online vender. This is my favorite restaurant. David and Grandpa (if you are lucky enough to catch him on Thursdays and Fridays for supper) are the most wonderful sushi chefs. The service is quick and responsive and the food is delectable. My favorite thing to do is to just tell David what I'm craving. He makes you rolls you didn't even know you wanted. Every patron is offered edamame and miso soup free of charge while you decide what to order. It's just one of the reasons that this place delivers. The last time I had bad sushi THIS bad was at Mizu, at their sushi buffet. That was also the last time I ate sushi at any buffet. That was 6 years ago. Super bowl roll - For almost $14 I expect better ingredients. Nothing in this roll was fresh not even the rice. In fact, I've never had sushi rice that tastes that bad ever. the deep fried soft shell crab had more battery than crab and it too was cold. It might have been fried early in the morning and sat for hours. Salmon teriyaki bento box - The thinnest slice of salmon you will get. It probably weighed in at 1-2 ounces. THe tempura was cold and vegetables cut too thick. The waiter said its the same salmon hey use on their rolls, "sushi grade." But folks, there's no such thing as sushi grade. Go ahead Google that. The service was passable, as in, it could have been a LOT better. The Caucasian waiter I had was friendly and service was ok BUT the owner who just happened to be the sushi chef behind the counter who made my roll was well, pretty unfriendly and looked like he was a miserable type of person. Perhaps it's because he has given up on a failing business as several other reviews said. I should have taken heed with 3.5 stars as I normally not go to any restaurant under 4 stars but I had a hankering for sushi in Natomas. Save your money and drive back to downtown instead. The OK service I got from my waiter kept this review from being one star as I couldn't find anything else decent about the place. 3.5 stars. I really like the ambiance of this place. It's new, not very large, with sunny windows. The decor is modern, lots of black glossy furniture. I brought a friend who was not all that familiar with Japanese food. She refused to try the miso soup that came to the table after we ordered. In fact she smelled it first! Having grown up on that stuff, I thought it was hilarious! But of course, I didn't laugh. I guess it didn't help that when she asked what miso was made out of I said nonchalantly, "fermented soybeans." Oh! The miso soup was good, but then again it is hard to mess up miso soup. They have a variety of rolls, which I didn't go for, but opted for the bento box. The menu confused me as there were no less than 20 or so bento box combinations. Uh, just gimme some rice, some meat, sushi and tempura on the side! So I ended up with teriyaki chicken, a sushi variety (salmon, tuna and shrimp), rice and tempura. It was about $10. The sushi was good, the pieces themselves seemed to be a bit on the smaller side. But still good - no fridge flavor or other flavors. Tempura seemed a bit over battered. I like a light, crunchy tempura, this one seemed heavy and the vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, carrot) were cut a bit too thick. Service was attentive and efficient. Although I could understand our waiter, I had to listen carefully! It was not an accent of the Japanese variety. Friend Y, had no trouble though. And she's not even Asian! When I "turned" vegetarian, I had to give up a lot of the foods that I grew up eating in a Japanese household. Most of the broths had chicken or bonito in them and suddenly a world that was so very familiar to me was off limits (a self imposed restriction, I know). Over the years, I have been very limited in what I could order from a Japanese restaurant- tofu teriyaki (depending on the sauce) and a handful of veggie rolls but overall, there were only a couple of options out there. On New Year's Day I had a mean hankering for sushi and decided to try out Kobe. My husband and I walked in and were the only ones other than the chefs that were there. I was initially only going to order a couple rolls of sushi but the tofu yakiudon caught my eye and I decided to order that while my husband ordered the agedashi tofu. Before we had ordered, two bowls of miso were served to us and shortly after ordering, the chef came over and gave us a bowl of edamame and later two vegetarian pickled dishes on the house. I am not a huge fan of picked anythings so I abstained but appreciated the gesture. The food came out very quickly and I was well into a couple bites when it dawned on me to post the pictures. Oops. The yakiudon was excellent and if you are a fan of shiitake mushrooms, you will love this dish. It is superbly spiced and my husband who had no interest in the dish when I ordered it all of the sudden started hoarding the delicious mix of noodles, tofu, and veggies. The agedashi tofu, which can be of questionable origins at other restaurants in both the quality of the tofu along with the cooking preparation was excellent. My only complaint was that the sauce they drizzle on top of the tofu that also serves as a dipping sauce was not that great. I can't really put my finger on what I didn't like about it but it wasn't my favorite. The sushi was great- there was a selection of vegetarian rolls and I have a feeling that I probably could have ordered off the menu and the chefs would have obliged me. Overall, this is a great spot for sushi and for the quality, service, and price it is severely underpopulated although lunch on New Year's Day might not be their biggest draw for a crowd. We will definitely be back to Kobe and I would highly recommend this to anyone in the Natomas area looking to satisfy their Japanese cravings! read more

Kobe's is my favorite all time sushi place in Sacramento, I love this place. Every time I go here I sit at the bar and order my bay scallop with an ice cold Asahi beer. It's quiet every tine i go and all the people there are always extremely nice to me and my many random friends and family I Might bring with me. When you sit at the bar you get free miso soup and Edemami. It's a very casual place and to me it's a charm. Service is slow sometimes but that because they only have 2 servers as 2 maybe 3 sushi chefs but the sushi is always handled with care and artistry. read more
