I still get it at Valley Fair now and again, but the quality has dropped with every time I go. This location is in the Food Court at Valley Fair. Typically, I get the Original Koja, which is comprised of Korean BBQ short rib (reminiscent of galbi), sesame vinaigrette lettuce, katsu aioli, sesame seeds. Recently, the short rib quality has fallen drastically. There's always a ton of gristle, and definitely less tender pieces. Sometimes, the rice bun is way too burnt and hard, beyond crispy. Some people might like that, but my teeth aren't up for it, personally. Either way, quality control is not there. I've also tried the Kamikaze fries before (Crisscut waffle fries, minced korean bbq beef, kimchi, red sauce, japanese mayo, green onions), and it was pretty good as a snack. We got The Original Koja - which is Korean bbq short rib, and the Kamikaze Fries. I would rate the original Koja at 4/5 because the Korean bbq short rib was a little bit on the drier end but overall super flavorful. I would give the Kamikaze fries 5/5 because it was super fresh/crispy and had a good ratio of minced Korean bbq beef, kimchi, green onions and sauce. 8/22/21 My boyfriend and I were at Westfield Valley Fair Mall to get food before going shopping. There are plenty of food choices in the mall, but we decided to go with Koja Kitchen. I've had Koja Kitchen a few times before, but my boyfriend has not, so I was excited for him to try it out since their food is really good. There was a short line to order, and while we were waiting, I noticed that they now served a crispy chicken sandwich. I had not seen that on the menu from the previous times I went so I ordered that and for him, we got the short rib bowl combo. Ordering was quick, but waiting for the food took a while. We waited about 15-20 minutes until the food was ready. We went outside on the patio area to eat. Just as I anticipated, the food was delicious. The chicken was pretty big, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The short ribs were also really good. My boyfriend wished they had given more kimchi and less rice, but he liked it overall. The waffle fries were soft and not super crunchy and they put the right amount of sauce on it so the fries were not drenched. I've eaten at Koja Kitchen four times now and every time, the food has been deliciously consistent no matter what I ordered. I'll definitely be back and if you haven't tried Koja Kitchen out yet, I highly recommend that you do :) read more

This is my second time reviewing Koja Kitchen, this time at their Valley Fair location. I have always been a big fan of Koja Kitchen as I find their food to not only be delicious but creative. The beef koja wasn't as good this time around, but I chalk that up to just one subpar order as their food has never let me down before. The chicken koja is now my new favorite item from Koja Kitchen and single-handedly brought this review from a 3-star to a 4-star. I don't doubt that if I went again, the beef koja would be better and I would've ended up giving them 5 stars. However, I have to be true to the review and rate it based on what they gave me. I'm going to preface this review by admitting that I'm not the biggest fan of Asian fusion cuisine, but Koja definitely misses the mark when it comes to incorporating Asian cuisine with American concepts of food. To start, the koja rice burgers that they're known for are an interesting concept that involves a deep fried rice patty as a substitute for buns. Personally, I find the rice buns way too dry, flavorless, and unevenly cooked to complement the complicated mess of flavors presented inside. Similarly, their bowls are chaotic- drenched in sauce, filled with kimchi and a random garlic salad, and tossed together with some random assortment of meat in teriyaki or soy sauce. Honestly, their bowls aren't too shabby when you mix the ingredients together, but I definitely have a hard time picking out the flavors. The only things I would recommend from Koja are their fries and wings- both the umami and kamikaze fries are absolutely delicious, and unlike the menu offerings, are only seasoned with one type of sauce and meat. It's rare to see asian fusion fries and wings, and these are curated to absolute perfection, unlike the rest of the menu. Would highly recommend if you're looking for something comforting- otherwise, go elsewhere for your Asian fusion! read more

Came here for lunch on a busy Saturday evening because most other restaurants were closed and Koja had one of the most interesting menus! I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad (Ahi tuna, wasabi mayo, seasoned edamame, seaweed salad, imitation crab salad, green onions, masago, wonton crisps, soy ginger dressing) and fell in love! It was such a perfect balance of sweet and spicy and crunchy and just everything! The tuna was really fresh and everything went amazing together. I didn't have the soy ginger dressing because there was enough flavoring in the salad itself. I had also asked for extra greens on the side and they gave me so so much! Most restaurants only add a tiny amount but Koja did a very good job. I was very happy with this meal. I also got the Teriyaki Zen Koja (Soy and portobello mushroom patty, sesame vinaigrette lettuce, pineapple, teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds), and oh my gosh! Another beautiful one! The crispy rice buns were really so crispy and the overall texture and flavor and everything was just perfect That pineapple added such a good touch and this soy amount was just perfect and I just have no more words. Definitely definitely recommend this one! My boyfriend got the Chicken Bowl(Korean BBQ chicken, spicy gochujang sauce, kimchi, green onions, masago, sesame seeds, lemon wedge, fried onions) and he really did like this one. The chicken was good and ingredients or went well together as well. He had half rice and half salad and was happy with the meal as well. I tasted some of the chicken and it was quite good - cooked just right and flavored well as well. He also had the Chicken Koja (Korean BBQ chicken, sesame vinaigrette lettuce, tomato, cilantro, spicy gochujang sauce, sesame seeds, lemon wedge). Wow, time flies. I reviewed the Koja Kitchen location in Westfield Valley Fair in 2018. We have continued to frequent this spot because it is probably the most interesting, tasty option available in the food court. I still find their namesake Koja thing a little hard to eat, but I get it sometimes because it's really tasty. I still rank it a 5 out of 5, however the things we tend to order the most are: Braised Pork Taco: my Mrs. orders these usually. She used to get just one, but the portion size became quite small so she started getting two, and even then the portion was occasionally tiny. Then last time we visited the portions were big again. These are tasty, but they should consider being more consistent about how they measure out the ingredients. 4/5 Korean Buffalo Wings: this is a fairly new menu item and it is fantastic. The crisp on the chicken is very crunchy like good Korean Fried Chicken. The sauce is like buffalo sauce with some Korean flavors added (maybe the same sweet-spicy red sauce they put on the braised pork items?). This is served with some spicy mayo for dipping. These are great but messy so get those napkins. 5/5 Umami Fries: these are waffle-cut fries smothered in the same miso-coconut braised pork, aioli and red sauce. 5/5 It's raining today so I think we're headed to the mall to walk the dog indoors. Visited Koja Kitchen at Valley Fair on a Sunday night for a quick bite to split with my partner. I've eaten at many different KK locations throughout the bay area over the years, first trying it after watching that season 18 episode of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives (thanks Guy Fieri). And I can say that the beef and short rib are definitely my favorites.. "the original" (short rib) definitely on top. It just has the perfect sweetness, and the flavor just melts in your mouth, the meat so tender combined with the light veggies and slightly crispy rice bun.. I can't really get tired of it. This was my first visit to the Valley Fair location, but it's just as consistent as the others. Found this burger place in Valley fair food court after movie there. I remember Koja used to be only available in food truck but now they even move in to shopping mall, yey, let's try it out. This was my first time trying the KoJa concept. I opted for the chicken bowl. I think personally I'm not a fan of this place - and you won't be either if you don't love teriyaki or bbq meat w rice - which is essentially what the bowls here are. If you like those dishes, this place will probably get it right. I also tried the Korean wings - these were pretty good. They don't hold back on the sauce and the wings are hot, crispy and flavorful. They go well with the side sauce. I noticed that the menu at this mall location wasn't the as expansive as the normal KoJa menu I saw on their website for another standalone location. For the mall, this is a convenient quick and easy bite to grab while shopping. Again giving it a 4 because no complaints but I personally just didn't enjoy the food. read more

The employee who handed out my food was super friendly and I'm pretty sure the wait was under three minutes. I love this because it's a nice balance of flavors. Just recently I switched it up and tried the umami fries. I believe it was the braised pork. I would say it's similar to Kalua pork? I definitely say it's similar but less smoke and more coconut flavor. This is interesting cause I really don't like coconut like that but it's okay. It was good to switch up the taste buds. Then you got the original koja burger? Sandwich? Sure lol. But yeah this is my favorite that I've had.
