Walking in the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and the sushi bar is the main attraction. Chef Jun was so nice and did such and amazing job explaining the sushi specials of the day. I'm not a picky eater so I ordered a few things I knew I wanted like the oyster with salmon roe (see pictures) and then the toro and chu toro, I left the rest of the dinner be chefs pick. The presentation is beautiful and the fish is very fresh. I've been to Japan multiple times and this place is really bringing in quality fish! I had a fantastic meal here a few nights ago. I came by myself and know Eric R. would love this so I hope he can go with me soon. I sat at the bar. Two servers took care of me throughout the meal, as well as Chef Jun. I started with several specials: madai lemon yuzu sashimi, 1 piece of shime saba nigiri, 1 piece of black cod nigiri, 1 uni gunkan, and 1 toro handroll. The sashimi was served with thinly sliced apple, jalapeno, and micro cilantro. The apple's sweetness balanced the tartness of the yuzu. The black cod was slightly torched and full of fatty deliciousness in flavor. Chef Jun offered me a free piece of salmon belly nigiri which was torched and sprinkled with a special salt. I then ordered 1 piece of kinmedai nigiri and 1 piece of saba nigiri, plus a hamachi handroll. The quality was great and everything was paced one item at a time. The owner, who was seated at the bar on another side, offered me free sake, but alas, it was not wise for me to drink alcohol before returning to my in-laws' house. Perhaps next time! I will definitely return to try more specials and menu items. This was a very enjoyable experience and the atmosphere is trendy but also relaxing. Wow. Just wow. I'm still mulling over the amazingness that was my first visit... sat at the bar in the middle and got the head chef, Richard. Told him I love exploring and love sushi and asked if he could just serve us whatever he thought was best... and he took us on a journey that I will remember for the rest of my life. I've had a couple other great sushi journeys that I remember to this day and now I get to add Kome, PLUS Richard introduced me to a fish I'd never tried before. I am so so very bad with the names of each dish - and it's sad. Komé is such a good restaurant that's hidden in the Walnut Hill area! There's plenty of parking available though and then you'll just walk a bit to the actual restaurant. You won't see any signs (or none that i spotted) on the outside of the courtyard. Came in for a small birthday dinner with no reservation on a Friday night and was seated right away at the sushi bar. The restaurant has mostly bar seating with a few booth/ table options. I prefer the bar to see the chefs at work. Food: 10/10 really good! All the fish were very fresh and they cut each piece pretty thick which is such a huge plus!!! The salmon belly was AMAZING and a melt in your mouth piece. I also got their 3 hand roll set. It's pretty standard pricing and again, good amount of fish. I think I prefer Komé overall the other handroll places I've gone too. It's also closer which is nice. Service: This is where they were lacking a little. The chefs, fantastic. Servers, mehhh. We were taken care of but more so by the chefs than the servers. You can tell that the head chef wants his customers to be satisfied cause he kept calling the servers to clear plates or grab orders for us at the bar. Komé is a wonderful additional to the handroll bar scene in Dallas. The chefs were very attentive and welcoming. I've already been there twice and I haven't had one complaint. They have a special menu that consists of various plated fish and all have been excellent. My favorite so far was the madai and Korean pear as the sweet crisp pear added a nice crunch to the fish. Like most handroll bars, there is an option for individual hand rolls or a combo menu. It's well worth it to try the 5 or 6 hand roll combo as you get to try most of the available options, including their more expensive ones like lobster. I was surprised that my favorite handroll was the crab! It was very sweet and flavorful. I thought the toro handroll was also fantastic, almost on par with the crab in my opinion. One other option I highly recommend is the salmon belly. It's lightly torched so you can literally see the fat glistening when it's places in front of you. It's a melt in your mouth, savory, bite. Came here with a few friends last week in an attempt to beat the crowds. I fully expect that this place will become popular quickly! We were able to make reservations easily (can be done by calling or messaging through social media). When we showed up, we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes before our seats were ready. We ordered a few drinks, then ordered most of the specials to share as well as some handrolls and nigiri. In general, the portions were generous and the fish was incredibly fresh! Prices were higher than some other great places I have been in the suburbs, but honestly still great value. Some standouts were the salmon sashimi, the salmon with truffle and ponzu, the kanpachi chili, the salmon belly nigiri, and the wagyu toro uni mini handroll. Most of the other handrolls were just okay and a little mushy. Even though they were clearly short-staffed and still working out kinks of being a new restaurant, all the staff were so kind. The price for this quality experience is unlike I've ever experienced; normally, the fresh hand made rolls are more expensive. They have a central U-shaped seating area like most handroll places, and then a few booths for larger groups. They were definitely very understaffed when we went, but any mistakes that were made were quickly corrected. The standout is any dish with salmon - the sashimi is delicious, fresh, and great quality. I loved their specialty item with the wagyu, toro, and uni (the Kome mini hand roll). It's pricey but that bite is a must-have at this place in my opinion. Chef's kiss for sure. Their hand rolls were not my favorite - I think too much rice and the rice is probably too hot, it made the nori very soft too quickly (maybe needs a double wrap) and the flavor was a little bland as well (maybe just drowned out by generous helping of rice, since I normally love letting the fish shine through in each hand roll). I didn't love the mustard salmon special, but all the others were delicious. My favorite was the kanpachi chili dish. The preparation and presentation made me drool uncontrollably and the meat melted in my mouth. The smoked ceviche was another highlight.
