I've only ever tried the HH menu, so take this with a grain of salt. I can't comment on their regular menu Love their hh margherita flatbread, sliders (SO WORTH IT, 2 decent sized sliders with fries for $6), voodoo roll, and wave roll were pretty good too! For hh, you can get pretty full at a pretty decent price (esp with sliders and flatbread) so, I'd def recommend going for HH if you can! read more

So, my husband brought me here several months ago because we wanted to try something different, and boy did he hit the mark! Kona Grill is it! The service is always consistent, and the food always coming out piping hot. The sushi is great (please try the Voodoo Roll), and the atmosphere just makes this place a really nice venue to hang with friends or date night with your spouse. My office planned a 20+ prepaid set menu Christmas Luncheon with Kona grill. The email and planning of the event was only communicated via email and seemed at the time seamless. We booked, we picked the menu and WE PAID, gratuity included. We then came in the day before to verify our reservation and scope out where we may request being seated and alert them to us bringing our own decorations. We spoke with the hostess and she confirmed we had a reservation for tomorrow. We were then told we'd be in the main dining room which was honestly dated and stuffy. I saw the porch area and asked if we could be out there. We were told the porch is for prepaid parties only. We were very confused and stated we are a prepaid party. Especially since we were told that reservations for 20+ can only be prepaid and set menus (that is an important point). She was very nice and said she'd note our request. Party Day! We showed up 30 min early to pull decorations in and set the tables. When we arrived to no space set up and no space even properly cleaned. They began to move the tables together and had to pull the mop back out because the amount of dirt underneath the tables was painfully obvious. We stood by for 15 min while they mopped the floor with dirty water which left the floor sticky and were still kicking hairballs out of our way even after the "mopping". Once we sat and guest began to arrive the waitress (who was great) came to take drink orders. She then asked if we needed menus. Why would she ask this if any party over 20 is set menus! (side note- other people were seated on the porch with not prepaid reservations near us which is opposite of what we were told). We very quickly stated the party was preset menu and pre paid. She looked very confused and spoke to who we thought was a manager. The manager then, 15 min later, came to pull myself and coworker from our party table to ask if we had any paper work on this event. We pulled up emails and receipts showing the details. This is while the whole party is looking at us with confusion knowing something has gone wrong. She then left my co worker and I sitting in the bar area waiting for her, for another 15 min, to find the paper work. This is now 30 min into our reservation and guests sitting at the tables awaiting the appetizers which were not coming out. When the manager finally returned she advised she found our packet and would get to work. We realized they had not communicated our reservations to the staff and they were not prepared for this event. The food began to come out, FINALLY, and it was clear the $45pp price was a rip off. The appatizers were good after they were served the staff was busy bringing out the main food so we had to clear our own table and passed dishes to one end to be taken away. We were served Ribs with Asian slaw. The Asian slaw "side dish" was not accessible as they plated the ribs (family style) on top of the slaw and utilized it as a garnish. The shrimp pasta had about 6 shrimp per bowl which was dismal and everyone was rationing the shrimp, the chicken sandwiches were not sandwiches but rather breaded chicken breast cut into strips on top of fries and no rolls were even provided to make into a sandwiches, their "seasonal vegetables" was just broccoli and the Mack and cheese was just unseasoned. Nothing about the meal was upscale restaurant quality and I'm sure I could have gone to a Golden Corral and gotten the same food and more of my monies worth. I'm saddened my office party was such an unorganized event. I'm mad the money we paid for an upscale sit down, Christmas party, event only made us a laughing stock. My first red flag should have been the dirty fish tanks walking in. Very disappointed in Kona Grill. read more

Fresh savory sushi! I had the pleasure of dining at Kona on a Friday evening. The decor was dark and mysterious, the perfect setting for a date night. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable. This visit I had the calamari which was fried to perfection but, was not greatly seasoned. It was kind of on the bland side. For my meal I had two of the Kona Rolls. The Steak & Lobster Roll and The Picasso Roll. Both were definitely tasty but, I'd go for 2 of the Picasso Rolls when I go again. The fresh mix of the spicy yellowtail mix, avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, togarashi, sriracha, yuzu ponzu made my taste buds dance. The Picasso was by far my fave of the two. Came here for the first time for Happy Hour with some coworkers. Great time and experience! I want to come back and try them outside of happy hour for a full experience, hence me giving four out of five for now. The Happy Hour food and drink specials are great! There's a menu full of $5 food. Flatbreads, cheeseburger sliders, calamari, potstickers, and PLENTY of sushi. We started with two flatbreads and two rolls for the table. All tasted great. The BBQ Chicken Flatbread has a very slight kick (nothing too major, I don't like spicy food but enjoyed it). The flatbreads are also on a super thin crust, unlike what many of us think of when we hear the word 'flatbread.' We got another round of the same breakdown (two flatbreads, two sushi rolls). The drink options are good as well. I don't drink beer, but they have Loose Cannons for $4 if I remember correctly, which according to the people I was with, is a great deal. I opted for a margarita on the rocks. It could have been stronger, but for $5 I couldn't really complain. This place in the inner harbor area smells like a sports bar but is large enough to likely have a table open and serves great sea food. Great service from Sona and good portions. We had a poke bowl, two starters, sea bass and a plate of crunchy salmon sushi with a large San Pellegrino for $90. The chef made accommodations for our weird requests. When we got there, it was 10 min before the waiter even acknowledged us to get a drink order. Another 10 minutes before drinks came out. Did I mention that the drinks were water? Had to wait another 10 minutes for the other drink to come after asking the waiter if it was still coming. Ordered food and had to wait. The table came in about 10 minutes after us and got drinks and food right away. Talked with the manager, and he explained it would be another 10 minutes before food would come out because our order got lost. Was not busy at all, only about 5 tables in the place. ABSOLUTELY not. Ah, this continues...we had another friend who is plant based and had a NUT allergy... did our server advise our friend that the brussel sprouts contained ALMONDS?! NOPE!! Thankfully our friend noticed before ingesting!! Another friend requested NO BACON...what was in her omelet, BACON of course. AGAIN, while our server was "still waking up," we attempted to assist him by advising who had what. We were a group of about 10. We were MORE than accommodating and did not want to reach out to the manager...but, we had to!! Stopped in here before the Blake Shelton Concert. Everyone else also had the same idea. It is a short walk from Royal Farms Arena so I highly suggest this place when you are looking for dinner before a show. The bar was packed with people taking advantage of the location and the happy hour specials. The main dining room seemed pretty empty but every seat in the bar area was filled. Happy Hour is M-F 3-6p, M-TH 9p-close, and all day Sunday. There is a heavy assortment of food choices at $7, $8, and $9.50. You can definitely make a meal just ordering off the Happy Hour menu. Avocado Egg Rolls - I love egg rolls, I love avocado, I love this combo. Spicy Shrimp Tempura - Others in the group loved it. I think it has too much sauce. Not my favorite. Kona Calamari - While I think this sauce might be the same sauce that is used in the spicy shrimp tempura, I liked this much better. Maybe it was because it was provided as a dip. Maybe it was because I could control how much sauce was on the calamari. Maybe I just like Calamari more than shrimp. I definitely thought this item was better. read more

I came here for dinner on a Friday night. Seating was not hard which was nice considering it was the eve of Light City. Our waitress was pretty aloof but I'll give her a pass. I'm a big fan of Kona Grill. I like their modern decor and chic atmosphere. Their menu is pretty eclectic with a wide range. You can get anything from sushi to jambalaya. My friend was in town from North Carolina and I wanted to bring her to the harbor to experience this beautiful city. Naturally, she ordered the Jambalaya which includes crawfish, chicken, andouille sausage, jambalaya sauce, and white rice. Needless to say, her plate was clean at the end. She said it was really really good. I ordered the Sweet-chili Glazed Salmon. It came with shrimp and pork fried rice and a spinach/sweet potato medley. Let me tell you....Yes. The salmon was cooked medium where it wasn't really slippery, but not so hard that you have to stab it. It was cooked very nicely and the glaze was a nice sweet sauce. Very complimentary. The fried rice was cooked right as well; they also added pineapple to it which was a nice addition to the flavors. I would not have thought to mix spinach and sweet potatoes, but it was really really really good. I ordered a non-alcohol drink called the Kahuna Cup. It has cucumber, strawberry, and lemon soda. You cant mess that up, right? Lol. They actually place real cucumber and strawberries with sprite and smash the flavors which is cool. The problem is that the drink was so full of stuff that I could barely drink through the straw because the strawberry/cucumber kept getting stuck. They should have strained the concoction. There was more actual strawberry and cucumber than liquid. That sucked. But overall Kona Grill is still one of my favorite spots downtown. Their food is always really good. For this visit, they only get 4 stars because the waitress was so forgetful and absent which messes up the experience. read more

The happy hour deals here are insane! From 4-5 it's $1 margaritas and other drinks are $5 during HH time. Certain appetizer and foods are also $5 and they are all pretty filling. To be honest though the drinks were not that great and neither was the food. I wanted so bad to like it but I guess we should expect what we pay for. I ordered the Las Vegas roll and was just confused by the semi warm deep fried salmon roll (with no rice). The Bloody Mary was oddly thick and sweet. Pretty hard to drink down. And my friend ordered the margarita and she didn't even take 2 sips from her drink. However, one dish we really did enjoy was the spicy fried shrimp!! I will def get this dish again. Having eaten here before, I brought colleagues for a business dinner. There must've been a glass shortage that night because our cold saki was served with pint glasses. The saki flight was served with the traditional small glasses however they looked dirty. Starters and dinners arrived at the same time which was a bummer. I'm typically not the biggest fan of chain restaurants, but in the case of Kona Grill, I can make an exception. Having recently had a ton of sushi, shrimp, and crab, we were looking for something a little different. From a quick once-over of their dinner menu online, Kona had enough offerings that sounded delicious. We walked on over, and were seated immediately. We started with the spinach-artichoke dip appetizer, and it was GOOD. There was a ton of spinach, so as a fan of spinach I was pleased. Now for the drinks. We tried the Strawberry Basil Lemonade, and the Kentucky Mule. The Strawberry Basil Lemonade is something I definitely need to start making during these warm summer months; it wasn't too sweet or too sour, it was just perfect. I think the Kentucky Mule is the real winner here though. This is definitely my new go-to drink. I'm a bourbon drinker. Huge fan. As far as mixed drinks go, I've been stuck on the Moscow Mule train as of late, but using bourbon instead of vodka just brought this to a whole new level. If you're an alcohol drinker and a fan of bourbon, this is absolutely a must-try. The menu is overwhelmingly large. I picked one of the first things that I saw- the lobster mac & cheese (another one of my guilty pleasures), but unfortunately they were fresh out. After perusing the menu once more, my boyfriend pointed out the cuban sandwich- something I had completely missed. Cubans are my kryptonite, and after getting my heart crushed and being disappointed by another restaurant not being able to make a cuban for lunch, there was no way I was not going to get it now. The server looked at me a little funny when I ordered, suggesting the bass or some other typical dinner entree, but I was determined to get my cuban sandwich. The cuban sandwich is phenomenal. It was absolutely perfect. It was exactly what I was expecting. Upon first glance, I thought to myself that the portion sizes were too small, but after an appetizer, the sandwich, and the side of fries, it was all good. In celebrating a lovely evening, we also ordered a dessert. Looking back, I'm not sure how we even had room for any more food. We ordered the brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled in chocolate and caramel sauce. This thing was MASSIVE. Whoever put this together must have assumed that this was a party of 6 or that we have been starving for the last month. Our server was very friendly, very patient, and very helpful. As the night carried on and more people came in, the service got significantly slower- to a point where it actually became very noticeable.
