We tried out Kona Grill for a birthday celebration, as I had the birthday certificate from the The One Group. In the past, I have used this at Benihanas, but the Benihana's in Vegas have very low ratings (and only 1 of the 2 will allow you to use the certificate). I checked out Kona Grill as its part of The One Group and was really impressed by their 3.5K+ reviews on Google and 4.8 stars. So we called, spoke to a real person! (I could never get a real person on the phone when calling Benihana's a few times), We came on a Monday during all-day Happy Hour and tried: - the chicken satay (great!), -the Macademia nut chicken with little scoops of mashed potato (really good, I can see why the entree is so popular!), -the summer special chicken/shrimp Jambalaya (lots of tabasco but tasty!), -the spicy tuna roll (I had to get a little sushi- it was ok; for a $6 sushi roll, it worked!), -the chicken and shrimp lettuce cups (it was good, it didn't have the sauce on the side that it comes with but it was still unique and fun to try and had a nice some cucumber/seaweed garnish), -the summer special smoked salmon flatbread (I love salmon of any type and this was very fresh!), and -the cheeseburger with fries (it had grilled onions, cheese, lettuce, and pickles and while I only had a bite, it was great... and we each had a fry which were tasty!). We had a lot of leftovers but had a great time trying things- and there are so many other items on the lengthy HH menu I would love to try next time! Angelica surprised me with a birthday brownie and scoop of ice cream- which were both very good! It was a delightful bday experience at Kona Grill-- we are so happy to have discovered it! There were plenty of happy hour items to choose from, plus even more specials for the Fourth of July and soccer season. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety--it almost felt overwhelming in the best way. Happy hour runs from 2-5 or 6 p.m. (I can't remember the exact end time). I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were attentive, quick to take my order, and always on top of refilling my water. Plenty of tables and bar seating. The place was packed for a Friday afternoon, which speaks to its popularity. Before you leave, be sure to sign up for their membership program for additional deals and special offers. This is a combination of two visits. Nico as our server over Memorial Day and Erik was our server last night. All the pictures you will see the food we had over two visits. Our first visit was around Memorial Day and they offered a special but sadly what Corporate put out to its employees was different than the email that was sent out to loyal members. Nico was our server over that weekend when there were specials for Veterans and it was extremely disorganized and Nico tried his best to take care of all his customers but had a difficult time with what the email said and what management was saying. Clearly it says Military and First Responders, however Management at least here were not informed and Nico had to fight for each table he served. We went to another restaurant in the FWB group and they had no issues with this deal for this weekend. Overall Nico was awesome. Erik we have had several times and he is amazing. Really nice place like a restaurant/sports bar plenty of TVs different types of goes on professional women, softball golf basketball etc. Great atmosphere of food was pretty good. We both got Margaritas. Mine was watermelon. Hers was regular. Loved everything we ordered on the HH menu. Except one thing, that turned into a problem, but they took it off the menu for us. The tacos weren't specified "spicy" on the HH menu, so we ordered it. We both had issues with it, because it turned out to be spicy due to the main menu saying it was spicy. Which we never looked at. This was a health issue for us. Basically, Angelica the server messed up on that part. I asked for milk free of charge to soften the spice in my mouth. We both definitely didn't finish the tacos.. and the shrimp one was the one I was looking forward to, too. :( Now, that I think about it, the last time I came here, a lot of people in my group got tacos, but it wasn't spicy & it was coming from the main menu; thats suspicious. :/ Unexpectedly, got a dessert on the house that looked really good, but so filling. I failed for the "chain trap"... overall, vibe-heavy but flavor-light. The space is undeniably upscale and has that sleek Summerlin energy that makes it great for a cocktail. But as a foodie, the experience falls flat once the plate actually hits the table. There's clearly an effort made to get a nice, crunchy macadamia crust on the chicken, which is a great textural start. However, the kitchen then douse the entire thing in sauce. For context, this wasn't my first visit to Kona Grill. According to my OpenTable history, I've dined here at least 16 times, so I have a fairly good sense of what the restaurant normally does well and where things occasionally slip. This review reflects dinner service, which has generally been the stronger part of the experience here. This particular visit started a little rough on the front-of-house side. I arrived for a 7:45 reservation and ended up waiting roughly ten minutes before anyone appeared at the host stand to seat guests. While I was still waiting in that area, a staff member commented that "dogs are not allowed" while looking in my direction and speaking to another employee. I heard the same comment repeated again shortly afterward while the manager was about to seat me. If there is a concern about a guest or their animal, it would be far more appropriate to address it directly rather than discussing it across the room. That moment in particular came across as both presumptuous and unnecessary, and it immediately set an awkward tone for the start of the evening. Once seated, however, the kitchen quickly reminded me why I've returned here so many times. The biggest strength of this location continues to be the consistency of the food during dinner service. The house chopped salad is a good example. The greens were crisp, the avocado was very fresh, and the dressing was balanced so it lightly coated the ingredients without soaking the leaves. There was also a solid amount of bacon and egg without overwhelming the salad. Coming from someone who normally doesn't care much for salads, this is one I actually enjoy here. The 6 oz New York strip was also well executed. The steak was properly seasoned and tender, with no need to add salt. I substituted mashed potatoes for the fries and they were excellent: buttery, moist, and well balanced. I also ordered the lemon garlic shrimp penne, which was cooked properly al dente -- meaning the pasta retained a gentle bite and slight resistance rather than turning soft or mushy in the sauce. The garlic, butter, and lemon were nicely balanced, keeping the dish bright rather than heavy, and the shrimp were tender rather than overcooked. Dessert was a chocolate cake that clearly leans toward dark chocolate rather than overly sweet milk chocolate. The cake itself was moist with a clean crumb, while the cream layer adds richness without becoming cloying. The base also had a pleasant crunch that adds texture. This is actually one of the few places where I genuinely enjoy the chocolate cake. Another thing worth mentioning is the portion size of the prix-fixe menu. The courses are surprisingly generous. In practice, a single set can easily stretch into two meals if you pack part of it to go. Even after finishing the steak, the pasta and dessert portions were substantial enough that they could easily serve as another meal later, which adds meaningful value to the prix-fixe offering. Service during the meal itself was solid and was largely carried by our server, Sarah, who did an excellent job throughout the evening. She checked in at appropriate moments, handled substitutions without issue, and was flexible when I ordered a second prix-fixe menu and asked to replace the cocktail with a non-alcoholic option. She suggested a virgin mojito, which was a thoughtful alternative, and handled the pacing of the courses smoothly even when there was some confusion about packing items to go. Given how the evening began, Sarah's professionalism made a noticeable difference. Without the strong service that followed that initial front-of-house moment, the experience could easily have landed closer to a three-star visit. Overall, the food here remains very reliable during dinner service, and the prix-fixe menu offers strong value given the generous portions. If the front-of-house coordination were tightened -- particularly around the host stand and guest communication -- the overall experience would feel more polished. Even so, when the food is this consistent -- especially the steak, pasta, and that chocolate cake -- it's easy to understand why I've returned here so many times. read more

I enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. My husband and I went to this restaurant on a Friday. It was pretty busy. The wait was pretty long but the hostess was able to get us in quickly. At first we wanted to seat inside but we changed our preference to outside seating. It wasn't too hot outside. As a matter of fact, during this time of the year it was kinna chilly and we had to grab a jacket from our truck. James was our server. He was pretty nice and attentivd. He makes sure our drinks and water are filled. They have happy hour. All day Monday. Tues to Friday from 4pm to 6pm and 9pm until close. We unfortunately missed the happy hour but definitely will be back here for there happy hour. They have several appetizers valued from $3, $6 and $9. They also have drink specials. We tried their crab cake spring roll. It was quite delicious and you can taste the crab meat. The spring roll was crispy. I also ordered the sea bass slider and it came with chips but James accommodated my request to switch the chips to fries without any charge. The fries were seasoned well and crispy just the way I prefer. We also triee the French dip burger. The burger was tasty, flavorful and well seasoned. We also ordered Brussels sprouts as a side. Made a same-day reservation for a large party (12) on a Saturday night via Resy & it was seamless. Seated right away. Server was awesome! So attentive & we always had refills in a timely manner. I tried their cilantro lime chicken & it was full of flavor. Reminded me of a curry. Delicious! Good portion size. I also had a slice of their raspberry cheesecake and I loved it. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare in the area but just park further and walk. They have a tablet on the table for splitting the bill which was helpful with a huge group of people. We decided to give this place another chance after a year ago and a disappointing Mother's Day . It's close to home and I had heard great things about their happy hour. I'm sure glad we decided on a second chance! It's now our new favorite Happy Hour spot! I love the Chicken Satay and the sliders- the fries here are amazing! I'm not a big sushi eater, but I did try both the spicy tuna roll and the California roll on the hh menu, both were delicious! Drinks are fantastic! I enjoyed the old fashioned and my date had the Moscow mule. We've also previously had their moscato which is great! The bar can get pretty busy, but we were told that happy hour can be enjoyed throughout the restaurant! They also have an outdoor area and an upstairs bar! So plenty of room ! They also take reservations, if you want to make sure to get a table! 10/10 would come here for happy hour!!! The portions were a bit small (our server did warn us), but it ended up being just the right amount of food for us. We ordered the Asian salad and house salad, which were both great. He also kept trying to sell additional alcohol even though the prix fixe menu included a glass of wine. When we said no, he joked that we were "being boring tonight," which was unnecessary and offensive. Service also felt slower because he insisted on taking our order course by course instead of letting us order everything at once. Overall, 3/5 stars. First thing's first- I don't think I'm the demographic for Kona Grill. After looking for a sushi spot in Summerlin with good reviews, I ended up at Kona Grill with my mom. Wrong choice. We came at happy hour, which allowed us to try a good part of the menu. From the happy hour menu, we got the edamame, spicy shrimp tempura, chicken satay, and crab crunch roll. The edamame and chicken satay were both good. The shrimp tempura sauce was good, but not crunchy. The crab crunch roll was also not that crunchy. Off the regular menu, we decided to split the house field salad, sweet-chili glazed salmon, and shrimp tempura roll. The salad and shrimp tempura roll were both fine. Our waitress really recommended the shrimp tempura roll, but it just tasted like a whole bunch of random stuff tossed into a sushi roll. The salmon was definitely a let-down. The flavor of the chili glaze was underwhelming and the fried rice was sticky. I would probably just skip it next time. I decided to dine at Kona Grill on a Monday. I had no idea it was happy hour all day on Monday so that was a plus! The restaurant was extremely busy so I'm glad I made a reservation. There is a small waiting area and bar seating as well. There are TVs around to check out the games and the lighting is dim lit in the evenings. We went there on Sunday May 17th. The food quality was horrible. I had chicken and shrimp lettuce wraps. No chicken or shrimp visible only big chunks of uncooked carrots. Same with our fried rice again big chunks of uncooked carrots. The top was we found a bone in the chicken flat bread. Manager said this is wild and walked away.
