I would say this store has potential. From their sample flight, I've tried malted chocolate, Kapi, Malai, Banana Gulab and Lotis and Rose. I wanted to give them 5 stars for the flavors - Kapi was definitely a strong coffee, Malai has the classic Indian flavots of cardamom and saffron and the pistacchio flavor was abundant. Banana gulab tasted like eating fresh bananas. Lotis and Rose was also flavorful. The space could use some TLC. There were 2 customers taking some thing to go during my visit, but even if the store was not busy, I needed to clean the table I was using. There were only 2 tables inaide, one that coupd seat 6-8 people, and a small round table that we used. Will I come back? I would not, hence the 3 stars, not because I needed to clean the table, but because the ice cream themselves were too sweet for me. I hope they can nudge down on the sugar.

Great spot for indian-inspired ice cream in the east bay. We got the flight to try 5 different flavors and a doggy cup. Everything was excellent- the original kulfi flavor was definitely the standout and tasted just like a Matka kulfi you might get on the streets of India. I'm glad they're constantly experimenting with new combinations - can't wait to come back and try more!

We visited Koolfi Creamery for the first time recently and it was a great experience. I was thoroughly impressed by the unique ice cream flavors and thought the dessert options were creative. They do limit you to 2 samples, but I suppose that is another excuse to come back and try out new ice cream flavors. I ended up getting a mango flavored ice cream and it had a vibrant, fruity flavor and was quite refreshing. Customer service was friendly and adequate, although the shop seemed understaffed. I wish they had more seating indoors and outdoors, but they have a few tables and benches. The decor is bright and welcoming and appears to match the shop's overall vibe. We enjoyed the ice cream treats quite a bit and opted to purchase 2 more pints of other flavors to bring back home. I'd definitely recommend checking out Koolfi Creamery and I'm looking forward to visiting the SF location someday too.

Koolfi creamery offers an array of unique ice cream flavors with an Indian twist! They also offer an array of different items like other desserts and coffee. Came here after visiting Habibis Birria because nothing beats a sweet treat after a meal. 2 samples is allowed for each person. I tried their guava and toasted marshmallow. My partner tried mango lassi and koolfi. All great flavors! For me, it was a tough choice. I ultimately chose the guava fresh which had a nice guava taste with a hint of spice from the Indian red chilis. Never thought I'd enjoy spicy ice cream, but this was great! My partner got the mango lassi milkshake which tasted really good! A strong taste of fresh mangoes made into a creamy milkshake. I saw they have banana pudding with gulab jamuns as a flavor. I didn't see it this time, but I hope I came try it one day!

This is a Indian-inspired ice cream spot with about 15 flavors on the menu and honestly, I hadn't heard of most of them before. I would've loved to sample a few before deciding, but there was just one person working and she was pretty tied up since it was a Saturday afternoon. My friend and I each went with two scoops in a bowl (about $20 total for both of us). Between the two of us, we tried four different flavors and they were all really good unique, but in the best way. The shop itself is clean, with a little bit of bench seating outside and just one table with three chairs. It definitely feels more like a grab-and-go spot than a place to hang out. That said, the one employee running the show did a great job keeping things moving. If they had one more person working and maybe a couple more tables, this would've been an easy five-star experience.

Every ice cream flavor was made with love! The flavors you can't think ever going together, they have made it happen. Jackfruit and coconut? It tasted so good! It's a summer special so try it before it's gone. The flight came out to be around $15 but it was worth it. We liked lychee rose as well and guava with hint of chilli was family favorite, so unique and no flavor disappointed. You can tell they are made with high quality ingredients. I wish they were open past 9pm.

Love all the flavors here! We got double scoops of cherry, mango, watermelon sorbet, and guava chili. The cherry seasonal flavor was sooo good. It's fresh, with nice chunky cherries inside. Guava chili is subtle chili flavor and it's so good and fruit forward. Loved this too. Classic mango you can't go wrong. Watermelon sorbet wasn't too icy and was really flavorful. Looking forward to coming back and trying more flavors!

Koolfi offers one of the most unique flavors an ice cream shop can have and Im looking forward to trying much more of what they have. We came here on a Saturday right before they opened and didn't realize they were still getting ready. We were meeting up with friends so we didn't mind waiting outside the gate. The owner let us know she's still setting up but we are more than welcome to hangout in the patio until they did and she opened the gate for us. It was hot so we were super thankful for the hospitality. After they opened we tried their flavors and you get two scoops per person. This is pretty standard these days especially after Covid. We tried the mango lassi and guava red chilli. Both were delicious but I would recommend mango lassi if you're a first timer. What I ended up trying was the Gulab Jamun Sundae. Let me tell you it was bomb dot com. I was initially disappointed by the price for the portion, but after eating it I understood why it was so small. The flavors were super decadent and rich. That small amount was definitely enough for this sundae. I would recommend trying it at some point during your adventures here at Koolfi. One last bit, there is limited indoor seating and a handful of outdoor seating. Its definitely not a come during peak time with friends place but a pick up and go spot. As for parking you can park in the surrounding neighborhoods so be prepared for a short walk.

Will definitely come back! Cute ice cream shop right next door to Habibi's birria, so stopped by after trying that. My flight included (in order Im ranking them): Guava - Im more kf a fruity ice cream person, so this was my favorite. I wished the guava flavor was stronger, but overall really good. Banana pudding - had a very strong banana flavor! And it had donut pieces in it, so was really tasty Salted caramel- another really strong flavor, very caramel-y Cookies and cream- good but needed more cookie flavor Lotus rose - my least favorite. I wanted to like it because who doesnt like pink ice cream, but was lacking flavor You order and can tast 2 samples (max/person). I tasted the classic flavor. And it wasn't for me. But can see why a lot of reviews like it.

I've had Koolfi Creamery bookmarked for awhile and was surprised that it was next door to the birria restaurant we were eating at! This establishment is LGBTQ+ friendly and POC women owned :) All of the flavors sounded so good and we were really intrigued! We couldn't decide what to get, so we opted for the sampler flight! It comes with your choice of 5 flavors and it was perfect for our party of two! We chose: watermelon mint, cardamom, malai koolfi, guava, and mango lassi. It was a hot day, so the ice cream was melting fast. All of the flavors were delicious and one of a kind! We enjoyed all of them! Our favorites were the Malai Koolfi and Cardamom. They have a hot foods menu and I would like to come back and try something from there as well. The also have a gulab jamun sundae, which sounded awesome! We will definitely be back again to try their other items and grab a pre-packed pint to take back home!

I was so happy to hear about this south asian lgbt+ owned creamery from my sister, and I have to say it did not disappoint. The service here was some of the best i've had. I could tell there was a lot of love and passion put behind this business. The various ice cream flavors are so inventive and unlike anything i've seen at any other ice cream shop and everything is made fresh in house! They also allow you to sample the various flavors before deciding on what you want, which was really helpful. Since it was my first time, I landed on a classic koolfi ice cream with chai affogato, which was so sweet and tasty! I will definitely be going back to try some of their other fun flavors soon.

For National Ice Cream Day, what better one to celebrate with than Koolfi Creamery. We found them for the first time at the Cherry Festival but this time it was inside Zocalo Coffeehouse which is one of their more usual pop up spots. With every changing flavors, you can get a taste of their creative Indian influenced flavors of which you can sample before committing. We split a double scoop of Mango Lassi made with Alphonso mangos and Bombay butterscotch with cashew pralines. Because it was National Ice Cream Day, we got a free baby scoop of the other flavor we were debating between, the Klassic Koolfi with pistachio, cardamom, saffron, and rosewater. Smooth and delicious and so glad they chose SL for their base. read more

KoolFi Creamery was the best made plan of the day at the Eat Real Festival! After reading about this amazing Indian inspired ice cream business in a current Chron Food article, I made it my mission to try it out. One of our choices was the double scoop, Mango Lassi and Blueberry Goat Cheese, nestled inside a Do-Cone -- an ice cream cone made from a crisp Dosa. The flavors were beautiful and the cone was a welcome change from the regular waffle cone. My personal favorite had to be the Gol Gushers which is basically a dessert version of Pani Puri. Each crisp hollow bread is filled with tart apples, mango ice cream, and cilantro, all dipped in a spiced sweet tamarind water. It is really refreshing -- at once cooling and warming at the same time. I actually bought two because I was so excited to share it with folks. I can see some field trips to their pop-ups in my future! read more

Something to note, flavors available by pint are not necessarily on the menu or available by scoop. Maybe they can post flavors somewhere? Was disappointed flavors I wanted to try weren't available, but this is a great place to come for ice cream in East Bay. Love seeing a variety of flavors to choose from And thank goodness we can taste flavors of ice cream! +organic straus milk + no artificial flavors (although I'm curious if food coloring is used + seasonal flavors I got the paan flavor it was tasty and unique. Very creamy but 30% melted very quickly in just walking to car in the time I paid and walked outside to car. It wasn't hot but rather a cold evening after dinner. I saw people enjoying other flavors on a cone and it didn't seem to be melting so it may be flavor specific issue. I also bought two pints to go and looking forward to trying those. This is a new business and I would totally come back they are probably still figuring things out. A family outside told me they've been coming weekly. I tried the cardamom also and it was yum. Can't speak to their dairy free flavors but will have to try next time. Impressive feat to grow a business in the pandemic! Congrats! All in all good experience. Could totally see some more happening with ambiance and service to make this a even more of destination. read more

Was so excited to try this place and was let down by the service we got just now. I got the gulab jamun sundae with the classic kulfi and my fiancée got a double scoop. My fiancée very nicely went back to ask for napkins and another plastic spoon because their tiny wooden spoon is too small and the ice cream melts so fast. The lady refused to give us another plastic spoon, saying it's only available if you purchase a sundae. To have spent $20 on tiny servings of ice cream and then get that response for such a small request, a huge turn off. Was excited to share this place to friends and come back for other flavors, but we will not be returning. read more

The ice cream at this place is fabulous! I love their flavors and that they have solid non-dairy options also. So glad to have them in the neighborhood. I do, however, really wish that they opened earlier in the day, especially on the weekend. We've had to take our business elsewhere a number of times because they haven't been open. Limited but exotic flavors. If you're in the mood for a specific "standard" flavor, probably not the best spot to go. But if you're adventurous, open and willing to try something new, they have a lot of cool flavor combinations with a predominantly southeast-Asian variety flavor profile. read more

We was out in San Leandro to check out a burger joint and happened to see this place right across the street. The owner works on the ice cream and is very nice with customer service! We were able to try out some samples. The Chai flavor is super flavorful! Also their Oreo ice cream was incredible. Boy you were able to taste the oreo and the vanilla at the same time with a strong kick of flavor to it! We ended up also ordering to go and got the butterscoth and coffee flavor. Turns out their butterscotch mixed with the coffee creates a Michelen stars ice cream experience. Man it was so good and gave me energy! This place is a spot that needs to be tried out. Man their ice cream is extremely flavorful! Highly recommend checking them out if you are in the area! read more

The owners are so kind and lovely. You can tell they put a lot of love into their business and products. I was very impressed with their dairy-free options. I feel this is kind of an overrated , on pricey end. The Falooda is $15 which doesn't make any sense.The individual scoops are good!. Tries Sundaes and Falooda which lacks complete authenticity. This will be my last visit to this place. read more

Wow!! One of the best Kulfi places I've had in a while. There's so many in the Bay Area but they taste so artificial and not authentic but this place was amazing! I really wanted to try the butterscotch Kulfi but unfortunately when I got there they were out it but still had the pints of it available to purchase in the freezer. I ended up getting the Kheer Kulfi which was delicious. The staff was amazing and so friendly. I believe the owner might have been serving us and it was a great experience overall. The place was clean and had a small patio in the front where you can sit outside. So happy that the east bay has a nice Kulfi place. Definitely recommend and I'll be coming back! read more

I saw the segment for their newly featured Icecream, Kamala Bloom on the night before the Inauguration. I had to give it a try! Rosewater icecream topped with roasted Pistachios!... What A TREAT! If you can imagine the taste of an elegant icecream. This is it! Not to sweet. Nice creamy texture. Very Satisfying! I went ahead and ordered almost one of every flavor! Each one, masterfully crafted with the perfect amount of flavor each icecream was named for. "Mom's Cardemon"...... Come on! Such a personal touch! It was PERFECT! Now wouldnt you feel a little bit honored to sample icecream just like their Mother's ? Each flavor of icecream is unique in itself. Love how they also carry dairy free and vegan options. Last but not least, they also sell Icecream for dogs! Peanutbutter Pup cups, with a milkbone treat on top! Mads (One of the Owners) is very kind and accommodating! Only tried one flavor so far - it is sold prepackaged at Zocolo. I love the creamy texture and that it wasn't overly sweet. We had the Bombay butterscotch. The cashew praline does not hold its crunch but it was still a nice contrast. Will have to go back and try more flavors. read more

Was craving ice cream and noticed Indian inspired Koolfi Creamery on Yelp, and realized they stock pints at Zocalo's! Made a trip there to try out the Mango Lassi, and bought the last pint - in my excitement to try it I completely forgot to take a photo the first time. The flavors were spot on, with the mango being rich but not too sweet. Ice cream was perfectly smooth and creamy. Excited to try their cardamom flavor next! Besides Zocalo's, KoolFi Creamery stocks their pints at Healthy Spirits in SF, Bombay Spice Shop in Berkeley and Farmer Joe's in Oakland, and also have pints for order on their website. read more

The flavor and texture of each flavor we sampled and purchased was excellent. Very unique flavors and a more traditional, kid-friendly cookies and cream. Attentive and kind staff. It all made for for an enjoyable experience, even on a cool winter evening. We'll be back! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Priti N.

Priti is a city girl with roots in the Indian cities of Bombay and Chennai. Her big personality and bigger love for all things good started as a baby with her family's love for making and enjoying desserts. Priti moved here to pursue her Masters in Engineering. After a decade working in the corporate world, she decide to open this ice cream business with her wife. Priti loves to cook and fuse flavors from different cuisines. She is a BIG salad fan and has a hoot coming up with new dressing flavors. Travel is her soul food and she takes time to experience the way of the locals.

The lentil soup was tasty and came with bread, albeit a little lukewarm when we got it. Overall, we were happy with our dishes and want to come back to try the other dishes. There is only outdoor seating, but there are about 8 tables to sit at outdoors. The owner seems very gracious and proud of his establishment. He says that everything is made freshly there from scratch, including the sauces. They do get their bread from a local bakery. There is clearly a lot of care put in the food, and it is a great establishing. We will be adding it to our list of lunch spots.

They typically add 6 pumps of sweetener but I only got two pumps with an extra shot of espresso. Just how I like it and it tasted amazing!! I would have given them 5 stars but one of the owners family member touched my 7 year old daughter's nose with his hands. People don't like their kids being touched by strangers. There is a limit to two samples per customer, which sucks because the two flavors that i tried i did not like. The ice cream was not good at all. Since being able to only try two flavors, i had to pick a random one to purchase. I got the raspberry swirl, it had a very weird flavor to it. I don't recommend this place.
