    Pepperoni and green pepper pizza
    Dianne M.

Sunday night, driving to Bar Harbor, we saw their sign and stopped in. Very hospitable and fast service. Great Greek salad! I started eating before I thought to take a picture. The pizza was on a thin, tasty crust, slightly sweet. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. A warm, family feel.

    Happy hour menu

My boyfriend and I dined at the Old Town Kostas location about two weeks ago on one of our first nice Spring days this year. We were really looking for somewhere to have lunch with outdoor seating. All of the restaurants in Bangor had waits so we called Kostas and they had plenty of outdoor seating. When we got there we were immediately seated out on the patio and our waitress promptly came to get out drink order. We both got a drink from the bar and a couple waters. Our water came out right away but our bar drinks took nearly 20 minutes to come out. We placed our order, we got an order of steak nachos for an appetizer, some boneless wings and a chicken wrap. Around the time we ordered it was just turning 2 pm and according to the menu brought to our table, happy hour was just starting. One of the specials listed on their menu is $4 tall domestic beer and directly under lists their domestic drafts as Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Miller Lite, and Sam Adams. My boyfriend decided to get a couple tall Sam Adams. Fast forward to getting our food, our appetizer took quite awhile to come out and our waitress kept apologizing for the delay. When the nachos finally came out, they were cold, cheese sauce was hard, and there were very few toppings thrown on top. We both agreed that it was not something we would order in the future. When our meals came out they were also less than impressive. Barely warm chicken tenders and a dry chicken wrap with a side salad that was missing 2 of the advertised toppings. Honestly, we're pretty easy going when we go out to eat so we didn't complain about the food, we just dealt with it. By the time we got the check, that's when our experience really went downhill. When our bill was given to us, I noticed that the beer did not get rung in at the happy hour price. When I brought this to the waitresses attention she mentioned that she was new and she would have to go run it by the manager- ok no problem. When she came back a few moments later she told us that "he said that we're not doing happy hour right now". I was a bit surprised at that response considering the menu clearly states when happy hour is. When we told her this and even pointed it out on the menu, she went back to the manager to inquire again. A few minutes later the manager himself came over. He rudely told us that it wasn't that they weren't doing happy hour, it's that Sam Adams is not included in that special. When we questioned him on this and pointed out the menu he basically told us that he didn't know what to tell us, that there are signs posted all over the inside of the restaurant about what's included (even though we were not sitting inside), he also laughed at us and told us that a $4 Sam Adams is unheard of. I am unsure if there really are signs clearly stating this or not inside, as we did not go inside. After a few times back and forth, he said that he would change the price this time but he would NEVER do it again. He acted as if it was some big favor that he was honoring their happy hour menu. He took off with our card and I checked my bank app within like 2 minutes of him walking away and the price was corrected. However, he didn't bring the card back over for a good 15 minutes. When he came to drop it off, he waited until our waitress was over talking with us and he was already turned around walking the other way by the time the card and receipts landed on the table. He was just so unprofessional with the way he handled the situation that it really blew my mind. We have really enjoyed him and his service in the past, but this experience left us never desiring to return to Kostas in the future.

    Greek lamb gyro

I told my daughter I was craving for Mediterranean food and we end up to to this restaurant but to my surprise when I look up their menu I saw a lot of American foods, pasta and very few Mediterranean dishes so I was thinking this is an Americanized version of Mediterranean restaurant. There's not a lot of people on where we're seated but on the other side which is the bar are full of customers. We ordered potato nachos and mozzarella squares as a starter, it's like either a potato chips or sliced of fried potatoes with just some melted cheese tomatoes and bacon but the potatoes are barely covered with cheese and the mozzarella squares are served with marinara sauce (that's Italian by the way) My daughter had the mix grill which is okay, her partner got the Alfredo which is another Italian dish,my wife got the Greek chicken gyro and I had the lamb gyro both served with fries and cole slaw on pita bread.I say the lamb is so bland, fries is salty and slaw needs more dressing. Very disappointed on my first try,I was actually very excited because its been a while that never had Mediterranean foods but for sure won't come back anymore

This was supposed to be the mixed grill. Ridiculous. Was bland and rubbery.

Was in town on business, ordered delivery. IT WAS TERRIBLE. I wonder who is supporting this place that it's staying open. My sauces were rancid...this was just bad.

Greek salad with grilled chicken added, chicken fettuccine Alfredo with chicken.

Great service. Food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. GREAT menu, I will definitely return to try more things! We enjoyed the tomato bisque, Greek salad with grilled chicken and chicken fettuccine Alfredo.

    Spanakopata
    Danielle N.

Our first time here, because we wanted something different. Our waitress, Dawn, was very nice. We ordered Spanakopata first and 2 lamb Gyros. Everything was delicious. The lamb was a little overcooked for my liking, but it was so good. The tzaziki sauce was yummy and full of flavor. We were too full from lunch to have dessert, so we took some baklava to go. My only disappointment with this Greek place, was that it was more American than anything else. The only other Greek item that I saw, was the Mousaka. When we go back, and we'll be back, I'll try that.

    Rhode Island-style calamari.
    Laura K.

We had a great time at Kosta's! Our waiter was friendly and the food was fantastic. We're from the Boston area and travel to Maine relatively often, so we will definitely be returning in the future. Try the Rhode Island-style calamari, the fried scallops and the Buffalo mac & cheese and make sure you grab a slice of cheesecake for dessert! You won't be disappointed.

Not great. I went here with some family for a nice dinner and I got the pizza. Very good but I got food poisoning from it. Never again.

The atmosphere is pretty great. The food is good. The service was lacking and that put a damper on the experience.

This was a dinner? so very very upset over this food. You will say to me it's was Mothers Day - 9 tables isn't very busy for Mother's Day -- a regular dinner crowd. We expected when we drive 1 hr to this restaurant get great food at a place that almost has 5 stars. I can understand we aren't in Astoria Queens NY but come on - this wasn't hard at all. I waited a whole year to drive back & I really wanted to give a great review but the food was just awful. Very are very disappointed . . .

My wife and I have been celebrating as many anniversaries as we can at Primo. With the exception of…read more2020 and 2025 we haven't missed a year. However. This year made us realize that this is our last year. It was our 25th and we were looking forward to it. It started with the hostess who was annoyed that we showed up 7 minutes early for our reservation and told us they were running on time and to take a walk in the garden and come back at the exact time of our reservation. Which we did. We were seated by the manager who seemed impatient. He handed us the menus and walked off. A detail I didn't consider until I noticed that the other manger handed the menus and went over some drink specials and menu specials. Our server was nice in the beginning although seemingly distracted. We found out a little later they had a wedding party upstairs and the kitchen was behind. We didn't mind because we were there for the experience as much as the food. However as the night rolled on and things took longer and longer, the staff seemed more and more annoyed with us for ordering our meal. By the end of the meal, our server asked if we wanted a cheese or dessert service and seemed very annoyed when we said yes. At this point we were 2 1/2 hours in and they wanted us out. However, we were still there because it had taken so long for our service and food. In the end we split a strawberry shortcake, which was very good, I had a coffee, and we got out of there. They wanted us out and we didn't want to stay any more. What is sad is we have been celebrating our anniversary for 20 years there as often as we can and this, our 25th was the worse experience we have ever had and we won't return. It broke our hearts.

Primo, "first". Interesting name to give your own restaurant. And the website doubles down by…read morequoting the chef - "the ultimate Farm to Table experience." (Another superlative?) Further reading boasts that they've received multiple awards and accolades, though the last one seems to be from 6 years ago. (As they say, time changes everything.) After walking around the beautiful grounds and event spaces, the young hostess who greeted us told us confidently that we would not be disappointed. Such hype and a charming setting could be a set up for disappointment, and it was. The friendly and attentive waiter tried to recite the specials but had to check his notes and wasn't certain about some ingredients or pricing. We chose the toast special "with house-made bread, cheese and seasonal berries". Immediately after ordering it, he asked if we wanted the bread service as well. We just ordered the toast . . . It was thin bread spread with bland cheese, a few macerated strawberries, a drizzle of balsamic and some greens on top (because you always put balsamic glaze and a few greens on top at an Italian-inspired restaurant?) Cliché, bland and no way those were local strawberries this early in the season. I like a simple starter but that depends on having flavor. (We had better avocado toast for breakfast at Joe's Flat Iron Cafe in Skowhegan a few days before.) Next we shared the Farmer's Salad, appetizingly and nostalgically served in a hand-turned wooden bowl. The crisp, fresh greens were radicchio, frissé, and romaine with house croutons, shaved Parmesan, pork belly pieces and a tasty dressing. Good effort overall but 1) what local farm produced those greens in early May ("ultimate farm to table"?), 2) I'm over trendy, greasy and sinewy pork belly replacing good, crispy bacon and 3) It was a simple salad I could have made at home. Where was the wow? We again went with the seasonal special for the main - house-made ravioli stuffed with house-made ricotta, lobster pieces and vegetables in an herb infused oil. Sounded great, looked good but another bland disappointment. The vegetable on top (garnish?) was roasted pea shoots that were dry and stringy. Sautéed cabbage was mixed with the raviolis. A flavorless filler. But kudos for including locally foraged fiddle heads to add seasonal color and interest. The pasta was well made but the cheese filling was just bland. As was the colored but flavorless herb oil. (And now I understand why Italian cooks say cheese doesn't go with seafood.) We asked for salt, got a strange look but they brought it. I have to give them credit for carefully crafting an uplifting and appealing setting. The gardens, event buildings, main house and dining spaces have an intoxicating atmosphere. And they clearly have their fans. (A woman at the next table who was eavesdropping on our conversation about the pros and cons of the food pointedly said to us as she left so that others could hear "I hope they got your meal right".) Bless her heart. Fine to support the home team (Maine plates on her car) but it's good theater more than great food. Overhyped and too expensive for what it is.
