Setting: Small Authentic Japanese restaurant located on Main St. Wait Time: I was seated immediately as a party of 1. I think I ordered and got my first dish served all within 10 minutes of sitting down. Food/Drink: I made it a "ramen set" so I could add on fried calamari. SO much food at a very reasonable price. - Spicy Miso Ramen (~$16): I chose popcorn chicken for my protein and asked for medium spice (3 options). The broth was rich and had a nice kick without being painful. I've been here a handful of times and I definitely think this is one of the best ramen spots in SGV for its price! Their portions are huge for their price, tasty, and their other dishes hold up just as well to their ramen. I looove their katsu. Recently, they've shrunk their croquette sizes from 3 full circles to 3 halves (1.5 croquette). My family, accustomed to the original serving, had ordered two plates of croquette for our party of 5 expecting 6 circles, but received 6 halves. For about $5 a plate, I feel like at least 2 croquettes is appropriate. Overall, I do think Kosuke is still worth a visit. I come here with my family strictly for the Popcorn Chicken Ramen. It's my favorite menu item here. The broth is a perfect consistency between thick and light. I don't like it too much in either extreme. The noodles are not too soft or chewy, right in the middle. The texture contrast when you let the popcorn chicken soak a bit in the broth is an explosion of crunch/savory and a comforting, rich soaking of flavor. My cousin, who by the way is the most particular eater I know, considers this restaurant to have the perfect tonkatsu curry dish. The curry is a nicely thick, and the tonkatsu tastes excellent right down to the meat. I have had my fair share of tonkatsu and many places just taste flat and rely on the breading. I can't believe it took me this long to give Kosuke a try. The place is so close to where i live, but since it kinda looks like a bar, i thought they must be premium ramen. I was wrong. They have the most reasonably priced side/fried food. If you love ramen and sometimes you skipped the fried sides because it cost nearly the same like the ramen, you'll be delighted to find that Kosuke offers great fried sides that does not break the bank. Great price aside, they really don't skimp on quality. If i have to find three words to describe Kosuke, it's high discipline craft. Everything is done perfectly. The ramen broth is rich but not too thick. The noodle is more like somen, as in thin noodles, cooked perfectly that it's soft and yet not breaking. I smelled a little hint of ginger, making the flavor profile rich but refreshing. They added ginger in such a way that not only it's not overpowering, you can't find it unless you really try. Finding them as a surprise in a few of your bites truly gives a deeper experience. I ordered the spicy ramen, and the spicy doesn't come from your run of the mill red chilli oil. There's indeed a layer of oil that has aromatic spicy scent. Marvelous. And lastly, they added the right part of green onion that when you scoop the broth and chew the green onion, it gives an even deeper flavor to the broth. Chashu also immaculate. Normally you find chashu that is charred with butane torch. Sometimes it's too charred or not enough. Kosuke cooked their chashu perfectly. It's tender but not breaking. Not dry. Not gamey. It's just smooth. The fried gyoza was just okay for me. Don't get me wrong, they cooked it perfectly as well, it's just that i've been spoiled with gyozas with insane level of garlic and green onion. Gyoza skin was fried to crisp and the filling tastes mild and smooth. But the cherry on top was the fried horse mackerel. Must be the most perfect panko fry ever. Crispy, not so oily, and even the tail is nicely crunchy. It has slight fishy flavor in the best way possible. Normally when you get fried fish, it tastes more as fried fritter than actual fish. Kosuke managed to get the perfect balance where you can still taste the fish AND the panko fry. Absolutely wonderful. Even the black mushroom and bamboo shoots is perfect as well. The black mushroom was not dry and not tough. Bamboo shoots is not stinky at all. It was quite a 'fight' to finish everything. They really make your money worth; that's a lot of quality food for the price. Service was amazing too. And the best part of it is that they provide amazing service that is curt and efficient. You don't have to nod with your mouth full trying to answer to questions like "how's everything?" read more

For my entree, I got the medium spicy ramen with popcorn chicken. I also upgraded it with a side of fried calamari rings. As much a I enjoyed the soup, I could only get through half. The broth had the perfect amount of spice for me, but it was heavy on sodium. It also didn't help that all the protein I ordered was battered and deep fried.
