The broth is not very good. Their noodles are store bought. Their options for ramen are slim. They offer your standard bowls. Nothing crazy. Quick fix, but won't be returning for mediocre ramen. I'm sure Texas has better options. read more

This is a new addition in the McKinney area and we were excited to have some ramen close by. We have stopped by a few times in hopes to have a great experience but they have all been ok. Was very excited to try this place for lunch, upon walking in, the place looked cute but the owner seemed already annoyed. Initially, we were never asked if we wanted anything to drink, just asked if we were ready to order and wasn't brought any water till we asked for it after the food had already came out. She (the owner) was also extremely pushy and rude when it came to our orders. When I asked if I could replace the pork meat with shrimp tempura in one of the ramens she visibility gave an annoyed and disgusted face, proceeded to say no repeatedly and kept suggesting me to order something else instead of listening to what I was asking for, so we ordered it as an extra which wasn't a problem to begin with but the rude response and tone really made it feel uncomfortable. The food was extremely mediocre. Bland, lack of flavor, had to add soy sauce and salt to it multiple times which also resulted in nasty looks by the owner. Asked for stuff on the side that we never initially received, had to ask a second time for them and the egg they gave was hard boiled not soft boiled as stated on the menu. Update: it's been about 5 hours and both my girlfriend and I have thrown up our food. Sadly I'd rather made the drive to Wabi house next time. Wouldn't recommend it. read more

This place opened up near our apartment so we decided to walk down for dinner and give it a try... twice. The first time was when they very first opened. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was that there was a weird, but not overwhelming, unpleasant smell. It was also a little warmer than we prefer in the restaurant. Wait staff was nice when taking our orders but did not bring soy sauce bowls for our edamame. We ordered miso ramen and tonkotsu ramen the first time. Both were pretty meh, not as great compared to other local ramen restaurants. The miso lacked good flavor and the tonkotsu was good enough but mostly tasted salty. However, we had the matcha fried ice cream for dessert and it was delicious. The second time we went was more recent and this time we also ordered sushi. The smell and temperature in the restaurant remained unpleasant and we again had to ask for the soy sauce bowls. The sushi was below average for what we've had in the area before but not horrible. Sodas were served in cans rather than fountain soda which was slightly disappointing. The matcha fried ice cream was great again. Overall, we probably won't return because we have other local ramen/sushi places we think exceed this place, but it wasn't horrible. read more

I had such a good experience at Kuma Ramen. Everything I had was phenomenal. I ordered the edamame, pork gyozo, vegetable spring rolls, and the katana signature sushi roll (with no cream cheese, bc i'm just not a fan ). I was so pleased with everything I ordered. My server was very kind. She checked on me throughout the meal and kept my empty dishes and bottles off the table. They must have noticed my big order for one person or that it was my first time but they treated me to a complimentary appetizer, the tempura shrimp. let me tell you, that sauce w them was fie, i'd eat it with french fries. will definitely be returning and so convenient how close it was. altogether, i paid $39 +tip for a fabulous meal that i'll get to eat some more of tomorrow:) read more

Overall a great experience for new ramen shops! They have some traditional Japanese appetizers as well as some American favorites. The place is very clean and the space is well managed in terms of seat spacing. This place was packed so I have no opinion on the speed of the servers because I was in and out in a few minutes which always feels longer when you're hungry. For food I started with takoyaki. It was fried just perfect no burning and the batter was semi-sweet. The savory flavor on the inside was very delicious as well. If you want to try something new I recommend that or the karrage. Looked delicious as well. I feel like a little more of the sweet sauce would have served a little better than the Mayo but that is a preference not an issue if requested. For my main meal I ate the Tonkotsu Ramen. This dish had very different ups and down for me. The broth was very light and flavorful of black sesame and some garlic. I'm used to a more heavy ramen that soaks the noodles. It didn't make me feel overly bloated though and I left feeling a lot more satisfied than I normally do with most ramen shops. This is good for summer and winter IMO. The fillings were also cut very thin which I'm also not used too but the Chasu was seared very well almost like bacon. The green onion and the bamboo were generously portioned which is good because I like a little crunch in my ramen. Overall like I said very enjoyable. The only real draw back to the ramen was the noodles. So much was done to make a Texas friendly ramen and yet the noodles were very lacking. They seemed packaged and also very sticky. They don't really do the broth the justice it deserves. I did not finish them as intended. I will return for the appetizers alone though so maybe I'll try a different main course next time. Came in for a quick birthday lunch with my husband in the middle of a busy work day. They have a decent selection of ramen and bowls to choose from. Their lemon pepper edamame was a hit for us both. Ramen is ok - nothing special. All ramen places will charge you extra for toppings, and I have absolutely no problem paying if I'm getting my moneys worth. Most places have ramen that comes with a soft boiled egg, but my bowl didn't so I asked for one. The food came out and my extra toppings came out in little bowls themselves. Tell me how its ok to charge me $2.00 for HALF AN EGG! I was speechless. I can guy a dozen eggs for half that price. If I'm paying $2 for an egg I expect one whole egg. The menu doesn't $2 for 1/2 an egg - if it would have said that, I would have passed. When I asked the server if the charge was correct, she said that's how they charge. I really wanted to like this place because it's down the street from our house but I guess it wasn't meant to be. On a more positive note though, the baked mussels are really good. read more

This place just opened today and I'm excited that there's a new ramen place so close to us! It's very clean and I love the art on the wall. The ramen itself has very good flavor and the seasoned egg is AMAZING! No other ramen place that I've been to in this area does seasoned eggs correctly so that was impressive. My husband and I went here for lunch. We got the the tower, and spicy karrage as appetizers and the spicy ramen as our entree. Tower and spicy karrage was pretty good. Wish the tower had salmon or tuna in it. The spicy karrage is different than others. Instead of our spicy ramen we were served with a regular tonkotsu. Upon asking, the server and kitchen had a misunderstanding with our spicy ramen. We are not picky so we told them it's okay. We can eat it with a side of chili. But they came out with our spicy ramen and told us not to worry about the other ramen. It was on the house. We weren't expecting that and just that alone will bring me back! This spot just opened less than 5 minutes from my place and I was excited to try. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I got the tonkotsu ramen and a California roll. The California roll is pretty good and tasted really fresh with a decent amount of filling. The ramen was good too, the broth was milky and the egg was cooked perfectly! I been waiting for Mckinney to have a Ramen spot. This place is small but great atmosphere, their food is not overpriced for the portion sizes. The staff is young so you might have to wait on a beer but they are really nice. I know sometimes as a starting business it's hard to get some supplies so the last two times I've gone there wasn't any sake or maybe that's just the universe telling me not to drink during lunch. I'm just glad I don't have to travel outside of Mckinney anymore to get my ramen fix. read more

After reading a few of the other reviews, we were a little skeptical. I would definitely say don't be skeptical, Go here! We both got the Tonkotsu ramen and shared the Japanese fries. We really loved it! It's definitely a good bowl of ramen and the broth is wonderful too! And as far as the comments about bad customer service, I would say I disagree. They aren't American born, they speak English as a second language, and their culture is different then ours; but the service was good, they are kind and are easy to communicate with.
