Popular Korean spot in Santa Clara for a solid reason! I love Kunjip and their variety of delicious Korean dishes to choose from. All their soups are very authentic and taste great especially on a rainy day. My favorites are their Galbitang, Seoulleongtang, and Galbijjim! Their Galbitang is fairly flavorful with delicious clear noodles and tender beef, while their Seoulleongtang is light in flavor yet still very rich and tastes great with salt and other seasonings you can add. Their Galbijjim is very well-executed with booming flavor, but I would say the portion size is on the smaller size for its price. The ambiance of this place is busy yet welcoming, while the service is relatively fast from my experience. The place definitely gets pretty crowded, so do expect a wait time, but I say the food is worth it. They have another location called Kunjip Tofu in Mountain View that I haven't tried yet, but I've heard great things as well. I went to this place thinking that I would get seafood pancake because I saw it on Yelp photos. Once I arrived they didn't have it on the menu. I quickly realized that the menu is pretty limited. Looks like the main special is the braised beef $75. Despite the fact that the food was pretty good, there were more downsides that made me bring the rating down to 3/5 out of five. Probably not return here again. Because there are more options now for similar dishes and they have a lot of competition in the same strip. Naengmyun 4/5 I've eaten a lot of naengmyon .This one hits all the right flavor notes. They have mustard and also vinegar on the side to adjust tastes levels. You don't see that at every Korean restaurant. The beef that they put in there is super high quality and very soft. At $20 I think it's okay. Not the best value, but if you're at this restaurant You're kind of stuck with a limited choice of options. Sellongtang 4/5: This is a bone broth soup w slices of beef and thin noodles. You need to add salt or pepper for taste. It's traditional and very authentic. For some people it could be pretty bland. But it's what I grew up with. They nailed it. Super high quality pieces of beef. Service 5/5: Very attentive service team there. You just need to flag them down when you need something or ready to pay the bill. Downsides: Parking: 2/5 During peak hours like in the evening on a Sunday, the parking is atrocious. I spent driving around a lot about 15-20 minutes before I found something. Also wait time : 40 mins. 6:30 pm 10 people ahead of us .Busy on Sunday evening. I think if you're into the braised beef it's worth the wait. But we just ordered noodles and we could have gotten that at any of the other restaurants that was close by with less wait times. Banchan is limited . Discovered Kunjip on a Monday afternoon and were we glad there was no wait! We were surprised to see how modern it was on the inside and they even had a separate room for bigger parties or separate dining. This restaurant was in a little plaza with plenty of parking. I was surprised at how small the menu was compared to other chain Korean places which lead me to believe I would have the authentic Korean experience. We were seated right away and we ordered the galbi jjim with cheese and the galbi tang. I added a few pinches of salt to the galbi tang but otherwise it was perfect. The galbi jjim was a little sweeter than I expected as I was expecting more of an umami flavor. Both dishes had huge pieces of meat and were fall of the bone tender. The rice cake in the galbi jjim is nothing like I ever had and I feel like they were made in house. They gave us cucumber kimchi, kimchi and radish as banchan. They were delish and authentic. I had heard so many great things about Kunjip and was very excited to try. The galbitang is sweet with the jujube and I could see it being super comforting in the winter. Some of the beef was tender and some of it was not. Hwe naengmyeon was quite sweet and one-dimensional in that regard -- portion was insanely large and I felt like it was just noodles for days. The ajumma was disappointed with our naengmyeon mixing skills to the point where she came over to mix it for us The banchan is very limited: the kimchi is very sweet-forward and very fresh, cucumber was not spicy (sesame oil + sugar were most prominent flavors) but I liked the balance, and the kkakdugi was a mushy crunch, which was not my favorite but that is personal preference. read more

Drove an hour down in search of some decent naengmyeon. This was the closest than any sf spot I've tried. The only small difference, they add slice pear so it has a sweet flavor; which by itself is fine but I was after a more clean and crisp profile. My bf got the #1 and of course it needed s&p. It's been nearly a decade since my last visit, and I'm glad I came back. This place has leveled up across the board--location, flavor, and service all feel noticeably improved. I usually order Seolleongtang, but this time I went with Galbitang, and it delivered. Both soups come with great portions and a solid meat-to-broth balance: Seolleongtang: generous, with sliced meat that makes it easy to share, and a great portion for two. Galbitang: hearty and filling, perfect if you're coming in hungry and want a one-bowl meal. Further, when you see customers actively refilling kimchi, that's usually the sign you're in the right Korean restaurant. Their kimchi is legit. If they sell it separately, I'd buy it. Bottom line: I'm happy this place is still open, especially for a warm, comforting bowl in winter. There's also braised Galbijim options which feeds 3-4 people. This is the perfect place to get delicious Korean soups! I had the Gukbap and it was a tasty blend of beefy richness with a touch of spice to keep the meal interesting. The soup itself has plenty of vegetables including radish, onion, bean sprouts, bouncy mushrooms, and jalapenos. I also had no complaints with what seemed to be a nearly endless supply of tender beef brisket in the soup. The kimchi side dish was also magnificent and not too sour. Service is pretty prompt and makes sure to ask if you need additional side dishes, which is a plus. In terms of their galbijjim, this is not my favorite place to get it but I would definitely come back for their galbitang - the soup is so flavorful with good depth. This is also my favorite Mul Naengmyun in the bay so far (don't forget to ask for some bibim sauce on the side!). We came around 11AM and were seated immediately. -Galbi Jim: one of the best galbi jims I've ever had! You can really taste the quality in each of the ingredients. The sauce is nice and thick, not watery like some of the other ones I've tried. Lots of meat and vegetables. Everything is very chunky so you definitely need to use the scissors to cut them up into manageable pieces. Their rice cake is the highlight! The biggest rice cake I've ever seen, but it's still so chewy and not overcooked. Since it's so big, you only get 3-4 pieces though. -Seolleong Tang: I like getting a soup along with galbi jim so you get a little variety and a break from all the saucy flavors. My friend recently had me try a Korean milky bone broth from a Korean restaurant. I loved it so much that she recommended I go to Kunjip, which specializes in Korean soup. We decided to meet up for dinner at 7pm on a Monday. Kunjip was very clean and modern-looking, and I noticed that the place had great ventilation since it didn't wreak of food fumes. We got a table easily, but the place got busy shortly after we arrived. Good thing we came when we did because the wait in the lobby area looked long. They don't take reservations but had a digital kiosk where you could sign up to be on the waitlist. Our food came out incredibly fast. We got our orders in 5 minutes or less from ordering. We both got the Seol Leong Tang (#1 on the menu), which was the traditional milky ox bone broth I came for. The broth was rich and had a wonderful umami flavor. I appreciated how it was loaded with tender beef brisket. I dressed the soup up with a bit of salt and tons of green onions. Loved taking bites of kimchi with the soup. Mixed combo tofu soup 3.5/5 it tasted good but it was creamier than expected. I asked for mild but it wasn't spicy at all. Would definitely recommend medium spice and up. I did like how they packed it with seafood and meat though! The banchan were pretty average, I think I was expecting more given the price ($27). The food here is served family style rather than individual and is priced as such. So let's start off with the service. All the ladies there are more than happy to help you and they're always on the move. They check in and are prompt with getting you whatever you request from them. They even asked if we wanted an extra pair of chopsticks for the table to use. They have salt, pepper, mustard, vinegar, and green onion. The seol leong tang was warm and comforting. Unlike a good bit of reviewers, I actually read that you have to salt and pepper it yourself. The cheese galbi was excellent. They meat was cooked so it was fall off the bone tender but still kept its shape. The rest of the ingredients were all the same. Tender while holding its shape. These were the best rice cakes we've had. Not too much heat though. Like 1/8th of a jalapeno. The banchan were great. Not too salty. Not too sour. Great flavor. The restaurant is pretty small but well-decorated and not cramped. We ordered 2 galbi jjim, a soup, and cold noodles and it was a good amount of food for 7. The food was great, my favorites being the cold noodles and the maeun galbi jjim. I would recommend the spicy galbi jjim over the regular (it wasn't really spicy, and the regular one was a tiny bit salty). It is definitely expensive, our total ended up being almost $40 each for a normal amount of food, but it is high quality.
