Service was terrible. We were told what table to sit at, but that was it. No one came to ask us what we wanted to drink or to take our order. We waited, but no one came. It wasn't even busy. Servers kept skipping our table, they even looked at us with an empty table...no food or drinks and yet they didn't ask us what we needed. We ended up asking for our water and just getting plates off the belt, which one of the dishes we had contained scales. I'm a regular at the KuruKuru Sushi at Pearl Kai. Come to think of it, I hardly come out to Kahala Mall. But, after doing a hike out here recently, we were looking for a relatively cheap lunch option and ventured to Kahala Mall. Since it was pretty late for lunch by that time (it was around 1:30 or 2 p.m.), KuruKuru hardly had a line. We had to wait a few minutes for them to clear a table, but it was definitely less than we're accustomed to waiting (during prime dinner time). KuruKuru never disappoints, in terms of food. It was just nice to visit this other location (since we're never out here!) and not have to wait for a long time. Here's what we got: Spicy Inari: This is my go-to order from KuruKuru. It features two pieces of inari stuffed with rice and topped with spicy ahi. I love how these pieces are sufficiently loaded with spicy ahi. I usually get at least one of these dishes during my KuruKuru visit. It tastes even better when I drizzle the tonkatsu sauce over it. This order usually comes topped with green onions ... but I always get mine without. I just love the fresh taste of the spicy ahi, coupled with the slight sweetness from the inari. Avocado Maki: The boyfriend orders at least one of these during our visits. This little maki dish is adorable - it has six small pieces and it's just straight-up filled with avocado. Avo lovers, take note - you'll want to order this one. Two-piece California Roll: Since there's a lot of rice on these two pieces, I only end up getting one of these rolls ... usually when I reach the mid-way point of my meal and can't quite decide what I want to order next. This two-piece roll is filled with lots of imitation crab, cucumber and avocado. Definitely a good choice if you want something safe and comfortable. Mini Spicy Ahi Donburi: If either of us are really hungry, we'll order this because it will prevent our bill from being sky-high (from all the two-piece sushi). It does feature a lot of rice, but it also features a good portion of the spicy ahi I love so much. This is a good option to order because it's still on the smaller side so you can try a variety of other sushi, but it's more filling than the two-piece rolls. Dynamite: Okay, so maybe this isn't the actual name of this dish, but it's what I remember it as. It features three pieces of California Roll topped with a spicy ahi. It's so yummy; it's something I order when I want a little more than the two-piece spicy ahi (or forgo ordering a California roll). read more

I think Kuru Kuru has the best conveyor belt sushi on the island. When they opened up this new location in Kahala Mall, I was excited because it's closer to where I live. I waited about half an hour at about 6pm which is not bad at all because the original location is always packed. True to form, the new location is pretty dang good too. However, I think the original location has a better variety and bigger pieces of fish for the nigiri. That being said, KK at both locations beats other conveyor belt sushi places hands down in terms of variety, freshness, and value. The service is very good too, constantly refilling my green tea and always concentrated on the patrons - every time I picked up the menu, a waitress would run up to us 10 seconds later to take our order! I remember trying to always go to the original store in Pearl Kai and it was always tough sledding because there was always a line. This was a popular joint! And why not, affordable sushi, great value and the service is always pretty friendly. The Kahala version, to me is better, not because of the location, which is closer to home for me, but because I find that the seating arrangements are a little bigger and more accommodating. Kahala Mall is a great destination for families and Kuru Kuru is just one of those types of places you can go with the whole family. If you're expecting omakase level sushi served by some 3rd generation sushi chef, don't come here. It's not that kind of place. But if you're looking for something fast, affordable and satisfying, than look no further than Kuru Kuru. I recommend the spicy tuna, any of the poke rolls, the chicken karage with a lot of lemons and the Tekka maki. I find that the portions here are larger than Genki sushi but you're basically paying about the same. And of course because it's at Kahala Mall there's a lot of parking. read more

Very good place to have sushi, but beware that many of the dishes on the menu are crossed out, or taped over because they are unavailable there; the one in Aiea definitely have much more choices. Better than Genki Sushi? Yes Better than Sushi Bay? No Would I come back? Probably not... This was my first time at Kuru Kuru in Kahala Mall and I was very disappointed with my visit. They are located near the theaters where Carl's Jr was previously located. It's nice to have a conveyor belt style sushi restaurant close to home but it's no good if the food is just not up to par. I'm not a huge fan of Genki Sushi and my friends suggested I give Kuru Kuru a try. A long time ago I ate at the one in the Pearlridge area and that wasn't bad so I figured why not? Big mistake...we ordered all our dishes because I don't like picking dishes off the conveyor belt. The dishes came out quick with one dish being wrong but that's not a big deal. They remade the dish for me correctly after I mentioned it to one of the servers. Sushi here wasn't very good with the quality and cuts being well below par. Customer service wasn't bad but some of the servers were quite grumpy. It's a pricey for what you get and most likely I won't be returning in the future. read more

I love sushi and seafood. And if I'm being honest I only have had store bought sushi, and so when someone asked me if I could eat sushi everyday I said no. Until I ate here. Their fish is like butter and melt in your mouth. The first bites I had of the Don and temaki changed my whole view on sushi. It was so buttery and flavorful I can now say I can eat sushi.. well THIS! Every single day. What made it even better was their wasabi. I have had many wasabi with my sushi and I am very particular when it comes to wasabi and a lot of them I don't like. Either taste too powdery or plain but this one was by far my favorite wasabi ever. I had to get two to go! Their ika was also very tender and not chewy at all which is hard to find and the sauce really brought it together. The whole soft crab was so nice, soft, and flavorful. I prefer it without lemon as I felt it took away from the crab. But this place is now my favorite place to go to have some good fresh sushi! Prices are fair for the quality of food! it's been such a long time since i have been to kuru kuru but it was a great experience. i love the variety on their menu and i was so surprised to see tonkatsu. the sushi was good. the salmon nigiri is always my favorite. the service was spectacular. the waiters were super nice and very attentive. the waiters were always refilling our water and tea. also when i was looking at the menu again they were quick to ask if i wanted to order more food. they were also very covid safe. we filled out information for contact tracing, they took our temperature, and there was hand sanitizer located at the entrance. the counter seats were also distanced with dividers. read more

This location is located near Consolidated Movie Theaters in Kahala Mall. It is very convenient location for movie-goers. However, most of the time there is a wait especially for dinner. I've had to wait about 15 minutes or more to get seated. I've been to this location a few times, and they have added some new items and were out of a lot of their items. They use to have large don's available, but now have downgraded to mini don. SUSHI: My fiancé tried the Mini Spicy Salmon Don - I'm not a fan of spicy salmon, but my fiancé said he enjoyed it. So I'll take his word for it. My favorite is the Dynamite (3 pieces california roll maki topped with dynamite spicy tuna), the disappointing thing is that it only has 3 pieces, when I'm use to 4 pieces of maki sushi. But, the taste is good so I'll continue to order that. Quality of sushi is good. SERVICE: In the past, we always had excellent customer service. However, this last time it was just okay. I think "kuru" means "so" because it's so so sushi. Overpriced+average quality+long waits=not worth it It was once my family's Favorite spot to eat at. We have supported Kuru Kuru from the very beginning but things are getting a little out of hand here. I don't blame the wait because they can't help that and I don't blame the mediocre sushi because I know it's not a sushi bar. So that being said....what the heck happened to them. After waiting over 30 mins and ready to order, we noticed all different colored dot stickers. They each meant that the item was sold out or discontinued. There must've been at least 10 dots of unavailable dishes. Why? I feel that the menu should be updated in a more professional way. It's almost like the movie "Big Daddy" and covering up spilled milk with newspaper. Anyways, they discontinued their regular sized poke dons which made us now order 2 mini dons (spicy ahi + poke). The spicy ahi was a bit stringy and the ahi poke had a limu (seaweed taste) but had no limu in it. It also lacked that sesame oil flavor which I love. Looked more dry with shichimi pepper flakes on it. (Thumbs down emoji). Both rice bowls tasted a smidge undercooked. It's kinda funny because before when I was poor with a couple hundred dollars to my name, I used to come here because I loved sushi so much. Instead of getting all the sushi that I loved (before) like hamachi, maguro, salmon, ikura, etc. I now ordered Cali roll, miso soup, somen salad, and all these other dishes that would fill me up for cheaper. To this day, I have a difficult time eating the expensive sushi because 1) they're overpriced 2) I took a liking to the cheap filling ones. I really don't feel that this place is of great or even good value. It's to the point where I'm sometimes willing to drive to Kapolei and to wait for 1 hour to get seated at SUSHI BAY!!! They have BETTER EVERYTHING...except location. Plus they're BYOB! I know I'll be back. It's just that I never leave here happy anymore due to the lack of quality/quantity and the rise in prices. I've always loved Kuru Kuru sushi. But this place definitely needs some help. This place is always packed with people so it's always a 10-15 min wait every time we come here. They seem really understaffed so not everyone will be able to be attentive to their patrons. Anyways we had ordered food from our server, she got everything right except she didnt bring us two miso soups that we had order. I didn't care much because we had ordered a lot of food and we were getting pretty full. The spicy ahi bowl doesn't come with unagi sauce like how other places are so you are allowed to ask for it on the side. The hamachi is good, so is the salmon. Teriyaki chicken bowl was super good. The California rolls need help because they were super huge but the rice wasn't packed in the nori that it kept falling all over the place. I wish our server had checked up on us more because my fiance's water went empty and we didn't want to wave anyone down. It's totally understandable that they were busy though. I always get the usual Spicy Inari, Tempura bowl, Ingen, and the tuna mayo. The service here is always great and the food is even better. It wasn't as busy, but we were able to get seated within the first 5-10 minutes. We got out tea, water, and was able to order. Within 10 minutes, everything came out. They always put a lot of spicy ahi when I get the spicy inari. It's soooo yummy. And the girl gave me an option to get brown rice for my tempura bowl with was awesome. No negatives about this place. First time here at the kahala location. Friends wanted to eat here since we were all craving for sushi. I mean wow I would drive all the way from Ewa to come here and agree to eat here. I guess I was expecting to be worth it. Since the reviews says it was awesome. Wait time wasn't too bad since we wanted the booth specifically. It was about a 15-20mins wait time. Once we sat down, we looked at the menus for about a min or two then decided what to eat. This is the part where I'm writing a disappointing review. About 10-15 mins waiting for a server to come by so we can order, since the food belt was empty. I swear our menus were down and we were just talking and waiting for at least one server to asks us "hi did you guys want to order from the menu?". Nope not attentive, not prompt was any of the servers. Anyways, continue on with this review. Once we had to waive someone down to order, we just ordered what we wanted especially I just ordered everything what I wanted since in my mind they might not come back and ask again. The food was great and tasted fresh. That was the only highlight of the story. But to be honest I'd say if the belt didn't have anything on it then y'all should take it down or find a way to not have it spoiling. To continue on the time at kuru kuru, the server forgot our drinks after 10 mins eating our food so we had to waive down the server. She apologized and was prompt on it. My friends wanted to order more food but again we had to waive the servers down. To be honest it wasn't busy at all there was still empty seats on the counter side and two empty booths. So this is the well renowned, hours waiting in line at PC, Kuru Kuru Sushi. This was my first time at any Kuru Kuru. I can honestly say it was better thank Genki (and way better than Sushi San), but thats not saying much. The service from the lone sushi guy behind the counter to the 5 os 6 waitresses around the counter was great. With this much people for a small restaurant, you were literally being asked "if everything was ok" every few minutes. Rather bothersome but not a bad thing. Now the food. Looking at everyone around me (who must have been KK veterans) everyone seemed to order a bowl (mixed or spicy tuna). That thing was huge and I guess the right way to go if you want to get full for under $10. We decided to eat the traditional way. (2) spicy tuna - Very Good and the reason I would come here! (2) crab mayo - very salty (2) ebi tempura sushi - Hated it with skin and head on battered. (1) hamachi - fish huge. Didnt have that fatty oily melt in your mouth taste. but for a buck half a piece....cant grumble. (1) corn sushi - surprisingly my favorite of the evening LOL (1) Salmon nigiri- again huge pieces of fish and wife said it was good. (1) Kabocha tempura - wife prayed the kabocha was thinly sliced cuz she hates eating kabocha thats not cooked in the center. well she got what she wanted as the kabocha was PAPER thin, but was good. (1) coffee jello - was good Total $25, which is very reasonable. Next time I think I will do like everyone else did and order the spicy bowl and couple sides of corn sushi. BTW we got there about 5pm and got seated right away. Walked out about 545p and there was about 15 people waiting in line. Now if I had to wait more than 15mins for this place, im outa here. Edit- I changed my rating to four stars (from three stars) because of the taste and value after going to Sushi San tonight, I really appreciate Kuru Kuru. I guess I will have to fight the lines like everyone else to get my Spicee Tuna fix! Plus its close to home. If they only could get those CPK buzzer thingy's. read more
