Came here with a buddy of mine for dinner this week. Due to the rain, the outdoor area wasn't open for some time. Therefore, the inside area filled up as early as 6pm. The good part was that the walls were open so you got the fresh air from the entrance side. Had to wait around an hour plus, which was the bummer. We did kill some time at the bar area, which was good. When we got seated, we sat in a tiny table in between some other ones. My friend ordered the pizza and I ordered the spaghetti. The food itself was pretty good overall. I just wish it wasn't ridiculously expensive and that the portions were a bit larger. L'Amico's brunch and lunch menus had so many unbelievably delicious-sounding items. I got the mafaldine carbonara, while the other two I was eating with got the soft scrambled eggs and one of the gluten-free pizzas. The noodles in my carbonara were very thick, which made the portion size not as big as I had hoped. It was also clear to me that these pasta noodles were dried and boiled right then and there. I also wished there was a bit more carbonara sauce, and I occasionally got chunks of cheese that I admittedly enjoyed but were not spread evenly in the sauce. That is not to say that I didn't finish every bit of the pasta and I enjoy it; I simply felt it was not the best carbonara I've had in my life. Nice ambience outdoors even during covid! I love their set up with the white curtains! This is a place for Italian cuisine, my girl and I had the margherita pizza, it was crispy and tasty. The charred cauliflower dish was so savory, the parmesan was a great touch. We had a few aperol spritz. Our waiter was super friendly, Christian! *Only downside is that a few homeless people may or may not harass you while dining, but hey this is NYC! So that's normal ;)* Overall the service was pleasant, will be back whenever I'm in the area to try more of their dishes! read more

I may have made some mistake with open table reservation and it didn't show up on their end. But they managed to accommodate us. It's a bit upscale place, I was wearing tights and sneakers. And my tights were ripped by the furniture earlier... but I didn't feel judged by anyone except myself... haha * For appetizer, I recommend grilled octopus. Super tender and unique flavor. * For main I highly recommend the wood oven chicken. It was just perfectly done. * For drinks, I had Chardonnay. No complaints here. Cons: Not a huge fan of the tiramisu. To me, it was a little bit too much on the cream... like, most of the bites are just a scope of cream and coco powder... If I was judging L'Amico by the food alone, it would undoubtedly be a 4-star experience. More goes into dining than food alone though, which is why I'm giving L'Amico a 3-star review. The positives of L'Amico are many - it's conveniently located near MSG without being a kitschy, tourist filled restaurant; the decor is gorgeous, with huge windows, gorgeous tiled floors, and dimly lit chandeliers, to give a very classy vibe. The menu for both drinks and wine is varied, with the cocktails being beautifully made. I ordered the Non Classico, which is vodka, St. Germain, Prosecco, and grapefruit, while fiance ordered the Sicilian Sol, which consists of Amaretto, bitters, Prosecco, among other delicious blends. Each cocktail was $14, standard for a mixed drink in the area. We began with delicious appetizers of crostini, choosing the eggplant and crab ($8, $12, respectively). These came out on huge pieces of bread cut into two slices, and each of us had an enormous portion for the price. Fiance liked the eggplant the best, while I loved the huge amount of Peekytoe Crab on the crab crostini. We also ordered the burrata, and oh my god, I am in love. It was so absolutely delicious and creamy, I was very reluctant to share, despite the fact that we ordered it to share. Seriously, order the burrata, you will NOT be disappointed. As for entrees, I ordered a margherita pizza (actually I ordered the Soppressa Picante because I am 0% Italian and had no idea that meant pork - luckily our waitress asked if I was okay with pork and I was able to say "No!" which resulted in her offering a margherita pizza instead), and fiance ordered the campanelle (with short ribs braised overnight). The pizza was fine. Nothing bad, but nothing great. Fiance said his pasta was also good. I'm not sure if we just ordered the wrong things, entree wise, but dinner as a whole was good, but nothing out of this world. The real issue that we had at L'Amico was not the food, but the service. While our waitress was polite whenever she did come over, we found service on a whole to be extremely slow, with the waitresses, at least. We were left for long periods of time in between taking orders, dropping off the check, etc., feeling semi invisible as we were constantly passed by. The bus boys were actually the stars of the service that we encountered - they were so quick to refill water glasses, take away empty plates, and bring out food, which was extremely appreciated, especially since the waitress seemed very overwhelmed with the amount of tables that had to be served (also, the tables for two are VERY close together, so you get to know your neighbor well considering you have to basically sit on their lap if you need to get up). In summary - appetizers = amazing, drinks = very good, bus boys = fantastic, but service on a whole is just a bit lacking and slow (maybe look somewhere else if you're looking for a pre-theater meal). read more

I enjoyed my experience at L'Amico. The restaurant has a trendy and lively atmosphere. My boyfriend and I shared the mushroom truffle pizza, which I really enjoyed. It is a white pizza which I also prefer to traditional red sauce, but fair warning it does have a lot mushrooms on it, so don't order if you don't really like mushrooms. For my entree I also got the pasta special that was kind of a creamy fettuccine carbonara with corn, which I really enjoyed. Texture of the pasta is important, and L'Amico nailed it. My boyfriend got the chicken for his meal and thought it was just okay. Service was very friendly. You do likely need a reservation, but they aren't hard to come by on open table. Prices are moderate to slightly expensive with pastas $20+. read more

A great place for brunch. The ambiance is really nice, the staff is very attentitive. The hostess asked us for reservations despite it being fairly empty for a Sunday but we got seated fast. We ordered a mozzarella bufala and a salmon avocado salad. I asked for a different juice but it wasn't avialable so I picked the greens juice. We were the first to arrive at 5:00 dinner service 11/30 with reservation. Our waiter asked us twice within 3 minutes of being seated if we were ready to place our order. As it was our first time at this establishment, it came off as rather urgent/pushy/abrupt vs attentive. We finally had 5 minutes to breathe and ordered drinks and two appetizers. Our server insisted we order our mains at the same time, which we reluctantly did. Our drinks arrive, then a flurry of activity. The main goal seemed to be getting us in and out as fast as possible. We told our waiter we had show tickets, but not for three hours, we had plenty of time. The first appetizer arrives, then the mains. We had to ask for our second appetizer it was served out of order! Bruschetta was overcooked (we're talking knife and fork on the crostini), pizza burnt, spinach ravioli, burnt (how does that even happen?) Spinach ravioli was removed from the bill. The intent of prompt service was ruined by a bombardment of waitstaff interrupting our meal and conversation. There was one goal here, get the tourists out of the hotel restaurant as fast as possible to turn the table over with mediocre food but an rather pleasant atmosphere otherwise. The staff is very well aware of exactly what happened. The experience was irredeemable. We paid our $200 and enjoyed the Broadway show. read more

Came here on Saturday night with a reservation for 5 people. It was a little windy, but we sat outside under the heater and we were all comfortable. The outdoor area was so cozy and didn't feel like we were on a street at all since they created a cute covered area with heaters. Just dined here for my father's 60th birthday. It took a long time for a server to greet us and by this time we knew our entire order. We ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees. The appetizer arrived before our drinks which were not great, they had a strange medicinal flavor. We then waited 20 mins and our server reappeared to inform us that the restaurant had run out of pasta? An italian restaurant on a Saturday at 7 pm ran out of pasta. We waited another long 20 mins before receiving our food. The dishes were tiny and simply okay, definitely not worth the price. The filet mignon came with a smear of mashed potatoes and 2 mushrooms. The drinks we ordered to eat with dinner didn't come until after we had finished the food. We waited another 15 minutes to get the check. I got home and ordered spaghetti because I was still hungry. Really cute place to dine at especially in the summer time when you can either sit outside, or by the window where you get tons of sunlight. The food is definitely on the pricier though even for lunch. For the table we shared the white mushroom pizza which was delicious and came with a chili oil that added the perfect kick. I had the omelette souffle and it was perfectly cooked- very light and fluffy. However, I'm not a fan of blue cheese so although the taste wasn't overwhelming inside the omelette, I would've asked for another cheese instead. My friend had the Pipe Rigate (bolognese) which looked really good and he said it was amazing! When I go back, I will definitely try this dish or another pasta! read more

Nice restaurant next to the lobby of an elegant hotel. The food dubbed as an American menu with Italian influences is also pretty eclectic and tasty. It seems Japanese influence is there as well because I spotted things like yellowtail and spiced tuna crudo as appetizer choices. We shared two appetizers: grilled octopus and Brussels sprouts. The first had an acidic zing to it due to the mix of pickled celery. The second goes really interesting with pancetta, cipollini, and hazelnuts. For main course we had the white mushroom pizza and the seafood agnolotti. The pie was strong flavored with truffle but a little too burned to our liking due to the way they cook them in their wood-burning oven. Service was terrible, the waiter took 40 minutes to bring the check, was very short with responses and would disappear out of nowhere to the point where we had to return our check to the bus boy and ask him to hand the check to the waiter. Don't think you can come here without spending 22$ on a single mediocre cocktail. 19$ for Grey Goose and 3$ for mixer in a cosmopolitan that tasted like lemon water and vodka mixed together, it was nearly clear? Absolutely insane. Will never be returning. I will say the pizza is okay. But 24$ for a small pizza? Again just find a dollar pizza place, you'll get the same taste if not better and not have to wait at a table 40 minutes for a check. read more

AMAZING BRUNCH SPOT! I love L'Amico and I recommend it to everyone. The interior is gorgeous, it's modern rustic and has nice lighting. There is "outdoor" seating when they open the wall/windows on nice weather days. The food is bomb too! We ordered: - Iced coffee - Uova Besciamella - Cotechino Hash - Specialty pizza of the day (4 cheese with peppers and a fried egg) The pizza was to die for! The Uova was very satisfying too. We arrived at 5:00PM on a Thursday when they had just opened and the maitre D told us "I'll give you a seat inside but I need the table by 6:45" which for an empty restaurant makes zero sense and it's ridiculous because you're "giving me" what? Or am I a paying customer? The service is subpar. Our daughter wanted fettuccine and the waitress didn't know what fettuccine was; I'm still thinking she was joking. We asked for the check at 5:40PM after a quick early dinner and they started removing the place mats and wiping the table while we were still sitting down. The food and certainly the taste was very good. However the portion to price ratio was not. You pay above 20 for an entree but no vegetables or starch to go with it. I went there with a group of clients for lunch. I must say the food was amazing. The wine was good. As far as the service goes, our waiter was an unexperienced waiter very nice very pleasant, but we asked for drinks three times until I finally had to go to the bar and asked the bartender myself for the right drink, and finally got what I wanted, we had two more people that showed up to our party 2:50 and we ordered two pizzas. We were informed that the pizza oven was closed and we begged the waitress to please call the manager so he could accommodate us and refuse to do that they said the rules were the rules, we told the manager no matter what cost we would pay for it to please accommodate our clients and make a good impression and they refuse to do that. It's a sad day in New York City when such poor business decisions are being made regardless of the cost, after, while, it became a matter of principle, not a matter of money, if you want to be served well and accommodated, I do not recommend you coming here. You better ask for the rules before you head in because if you break one, you'll be sadly disappointed. read more

This might be my favorite brunch spot in the city. I always bring visitors from out of town here because you can make a reservation, and the ambience and food never disappoint. Solid brunch spot and perfect for the spring/autumn months. I've been here a couple times alone and it's always been really great (service, food, ambience). The main dining room is beautiful on a good weather day (open kitchen and walls/street side seating, light music but nothing loud so conversations still feasible at normal volumes). There's also always just the right amount of people here - enough so I can blend in as a solo diner comfortably and not feel like staff are watching me haha but not so much that it feels crowded or prevents me from being seated immediately. In terms of the food, if you pick the right options it's on par with other super popular and more highly rated brunch spots in the city. The scrambled eggs are on point - perfect texture, on top of bread that's been drizzled with balsamic or some sort of vinaigrette. So so good. And the side salad is super fresh/light. Pancakes are another one of my favs off the brunch menu. Didn't get it this time so no photo to share, but they're light and fluffy. Not too sweet. If you're hungrier and want something more filling - get the pastas. read more

It's a nice outdoor setup with those white curtains and not white being directly alongside traffic, but was a little disappointed that for whatever reason the curtains were tied when I dined there. Made the dining area feel more exposed. Ordered the tuna and octopus appetizers to split among three people. The tuna priced at $17 was a joke as it was TINY in portion. The octopus was small too for $19 but it was delicious. Did enjoy my mafaldine entree. We all agreed that portions for the prices could have been a tiny bit more generous. The male server was also a bit curt and yes, I understand working under COVID conditions may be less than desirable but I haven't experienced anything less than great at other restaurants. read more
