However I never understood why French cuisine was held in such high regard. Sure the meals i had were beautifully made and the food had a comfortabe umputious to them... but the best food in the world... really? Airfood L'appart changed that for me. The meal was a revalation. This resturant made me realize the genius of french cuisine. My SO and I made a reservation for Valentine's day. The resturant was small with a view of the kitchen. We ordered the foie gras with fig sauce, fennel salad, filet mignon with foie gras, salmon with yam puree, and an apple tart for dessert. Having the foie in two ways (hot on the filet and cold with the figs) was the perfect way to enjoy foie. Foie with figs is a perfect match and the warm foie was like meat butter on the filet. Everything was amazing!! If you've had high end french food before, maybe you had better. For me this resturant and this meal will always be in my heart and on my mind. read more

Really quite blown away by the food and experience we had here. We came in on a pretty cold night and from the moment we stepped foot into L'appart it was so reminiscent of someone inviting you into their home and welcoming you into their dining room. Right off the bat I had their La Soupe a l'oignon to warm myself up and it totally did the trick. This soup is one of their classics and I can definitely see why. For the table, we shared escargots, Bceuf Bourgignon, and the duck leg confit. It's so hard to describe these dishes. Aside from being absolutely delicious there was a fascination to them that left all of us at the table absolutely in love and wanting more. Just a beautiful spread with an even beautiful staff here. This was definitely one of our culinary highlights for 2023 and we plan on doing it again this year. read more

I've heard a lot of recommendations about this restaurant and it has a really high score. That's why we decided to go there for the Valentine's Day. Except for the prefix menu, the regular items are not available at all. And two people have to share an entree and they didn't even give us plates until we asked for. There was a slice of paper on the salmon and I thought it was like the paper made by the sticky rice which melts in your mouth. However, seems that was just a pice of plastic paper. The duck is too dry and the desert has a very solid base that even the knife can't cut it into pieces. For a total of $250 I would recommend somewhere else for sure. This is a downtown gem! It makes DTLA worth living in and coming to visit. The menu is chosen to give a really authentic experience of French cuisine while accounting for the unique palette of Angelenos. The food is artfully presented. The staff is first rate. The restaurant environment itself is an ode to French culture but with a laid back homey feeling. We have found it one of the best places to hang out, have dinner and enjoy a great bottle of French wine or inspired cocktail. Finally, authentic french food in DTLA!!! This is one of the cutest additions to the downtown food scene. It is a "people sized" restaurant with just a few seats and the perfect spot for an intimate date or small group dinner with friends. The complimentary bread and butter is SO GOOD! I don't know why but I could eat two loaves. The escargot is authentic and packed with butter and herbs. If you love escargot or have never had escargot, this is a great place to try. The duck leg is also an honorable mention and cooked to perfection. There is a camera overhead on the chef's prep table so you can watch your food being prepared live! It's awesome and I've never seen anything like it at any restaurant. They are so clever with their plating. For example, the chef used an old record player to create the perfect swirl of sauce for the duck. I was blown away by the creativity and attention to detail. You can truly feel the passion in the food. Service is very friendly and I can't wait until they have their wine license. It is currently BYOB with no corkage fee for the first bottle! It seems like this place has a fair amount of regulars which is always a good sign. I can't wait to go back and try brunch. read more

Ordered this from Postmates because let's be honest, got high and was watching Ratatouille and felt like eating something delicious and French. Ordered the Bœuf Bourguignon and Gorgonzola mac n cheese. Let's start off with the Bourguignon. The meat was like butter, just melted in your mouth and the jus that came with was unbelievably delicious when absorbed with the half French baguette that came with it. The Mac N Cheese was in a word of its own. It was sharp, but not overwhelming. Had the perfect crisp to the top and creamy cheesy underneath. My only regret was not getting more. We had the restaurant to ourselves the night we dined here and I seriously hope that changes, because this is the best meal I have eaten in LA in some time. I recently dined at a 2x Michelin star restaurant in Marseille and this DTLA gem could stand right next to L'Arome, maybe even above! We ordered the veggie tartine and the labneh to begin....followed by the cheese platter with fresh, crusty sliced baguette. Each starter was a delicious burst of flavors and colors. The cheese platter was HUGE and insanely good, with a variation of cheese I have never heard of nor tasted! On to the mains...we ordered the lobster risotto with shrimp, the beef bourguignon (6 hours simmered in red wine) and the linguine con pepe. We cleaned every plate put before us with ease...everything to temperature and presented beautifully. The risotto was a major standout! Did I mention there's a live camera on the chef's table in the kitchen which is broadcasting his every move in the dining room so we can all follow along? It was really fun to see this master at work! The chef sent us a chocolate lava cake a'la mode on the house! How lucky were we? I simply cannot wait to go back to L'Appart! Je'taime! read more

I went here for Valentine's Day and ordered the $55 special. Service was a bit slow at the beginning because it was a busy night but our waiter was always attentive and made sure to check up on us. They also gave us a delicious appetizer for the wait. We got: - escargot, which had the most appetizing and oil and cheese filling - duck, which we didn't know could pair so well with a blueberry sauce - the "orgasm" dessert, which came with candied apples, chocolate fudge pudding, strawberries and light, fluffy cheese cream, and creme brûlée So you can guess how full we were from beginning to end. well worth the meal, atmosphere was beautiful, and will definitely go here again! read more

Charming and absolutely delicious. I went here for dinner with a bunch of Parisians and their extremely well behaved children. The chefs even made the little ones a special chicken and frites dish which looked very tasty. Our table shared the escargot (butter-garlic-parsley heaven), scallop ceviche (fresh, clean, bright, interesting), charcuterie plate (which came with a butter that I thought was so yummy I ate cubes of sshhhhhh ;) ), and garlic parsley baguettes. My boyfriend and I shared the beef tartare and duck confit. The beef tartare was very vibrant and well balanced, with lots of delicious pickled mustard seeds on top. The duck confit with pear was a dream. So rich and tender with so many layered flavors. Service was wonderful and the TV in the corner broadcasts the kitchen counter so you can watch the magic happen. The chefs are very warm and handsome. They also have a super eclectic and charming interior that combines quaint, small Parisian bistro vibes with a modern touch via KAWS sculptures (if I'm not mistaken) and bright touches of color. Coming in off the street, it feels like stepping into a Parisian bistro. The place is quite small, just 7 tables (with a few more outside but we decided to pass on the view of the DTLA street), decorated in a cozy, quaint style. The soundtrack is Django Reinhardt/Stephane Grapelli, totally appropriate for the environment, and just our enough to muffle the conversations at nearby tables without being obtrusive. One interesting feature of the decor is the large TV monitor in the corner showing the feed from a video camera over the chef's work station. It's like a cooking show where you you can watch your own meal prepared moments before it arrives at the table. We shared a couple of appetizers and then each had their own entree, the beef tartar, the lamb shank, and the seared scallops. All were excellent! When we asked about a wine list, our young waiter said it was in his head. He then recited a selection of red and white varietals (not actual labels). It seemed like if we had asked for more info, we might have taxed his viticultural knowledge, but his attitude was delightful. We finished with the creme brûlée and a chocolate lava cake, both as good as the rest of the meal. This was a total delight for a nice birthday dinner. Would definitely go back. read more

This place is completely unassuming from the outside but the second you step in, you are greeted with a very warm atmosphere and you can even see a "window" to the kitchen. The openness of the chefs, I think, is a huge highlight of this place. Not only can you see them working on your dish through that window, but they even have a live TV so you can watch them plate every dish that goes out (beautifully might I add). The food itself was one of the best meals I've had in quite some time. My only problem was that I couldn't fit more of it in my stomach! Every bite was phenomenal and delicious! If you're looking for modern French food in LA, this spot should definitely be on your list. read more

Very unique and sophisticated menu items for quite competitive pricing. Their menu items include French, American, and (I believe) some Lebanese cuisine, which makes your experience here eccentric yet deliciously relatable at the same time. Every so often they come up with a new menu item too, to entertain the palate of those looking for something new. The customer service here is also above and beyond. I truly enjoy every visit to Airfood L'appart and I have been coming here several times a year since it opened for that same reason. What a discovery. My friends and I had a safe/socially distanced outdoor diner at AIR FOOD L'APPART and we were all blown away by the ambiance, the flavors and the service. The team is absolutely delightful and filled with passion for their craft. The service was warm, attentive, knowledgable. The menu is not extensive, not unlike any typical french brasserie, and every single one of the items on it is prepared with extreme precision and love (you can tell that by the gorgeous presentation of every single dish appearing on our table). Our table got lucky that night, as the Plat du Jour was a fantastic serving of the most perfectly seared scallops). The beef tartare cured my home sickness, and so did the beef bourguignon. As for the desserts.... I am at a loss for words when it comes to speak about the creative pear risotto. A true slice of France hidden in the heart of DTLA. read more

The food was excellent and worthy of 5*. The salmon was terrific and the duck also excellent. The service was quite nice. The atmosphere ok, not exactly like the message conveyed by the photos online. I give 4* however for a few reasons... on the night we were there at 7:30, there were already 5 unavailable items. If you need to be gluten free, there are only a few choices and my first choice was already sold. Our first choice in wine was also unavailable. The neighborhood is not particularly good and there is no valet. A good parking lot exists about one block away. read more

L'Appart is a little gem in downtown L.A. The French Menu is delicious and the atmosphere intimate. At last, a restaurant where you can have a conversation with your date and not have to speak over loud music! Last time, I had the Fresh Burrata with olives and I couldn't get enough, it was so yummy! The Beef Bourguignon staple dish of French cuisine is tasty, authentic and well-prepared by Chef Thierry Babet. We are so lucky to have found this in our only night near downtown LA (thanks yelp!) small plates were fantastic and the entrees were good but not as great as the small plates ! wine selection was a little Limited we felt . FOOD - was absolutely finger licking good. See our menu below : The BURRATA which we loved very single bite was amazing. It was served over focaccia with truffle oil- and the flavors were 10/5 literally . The SALMON CARPACCIO was next and it kept us getting so excited about all the menu options. The salmon was light on the lemon and it came within a buttery bread that was all incredible , you could literally taste every flavor in every bite. Must get ! GORGONZOLA MAC N CHEESE - this was my husbands pick and although I'm not a Gorgonzola fan like he is, it was good, very strong flavored but the pasta was great and the size of the dish was perfect . DUCK CONFIT with a wine reduction- OMG I am Not a super concert on duck (only like certain cooking styles ) but the wine reduction was incredible I could literally drink that . The veggies were bathed on it and it made everything melt in your mouth . And last but not least : CREME BRÛLÉE which was the only item available for dessert but we devoured it - it was perfect to close our menu , and also perfect for 2 people . STAFF - was the friendliest and most attentive , we got seated right away and the table were Europe size so , we truly appreciate the staff bringing plates as we were finishing to make sure entering fit ! AMBIANCE - street dining is our favorite because we like to be outside and get to experience The city. It does get a bit smelly because it is so close to all the LA smells but then the food captivates all your senses ! COST - we went all out ordering drinks (bottle of wine) , full menu and desert and we spent about $ 150 (tip included ) but it's probably closer to 40 per person if you go with the a full menu (and even less of you just try their small plates (which would be our plan ) whenever we are back in LA read more

Wow. Great dinner and such a cool little restaurant. Food was perfect and service was even better. Didn't realize it was BYOB (for now) but had time to run out and get a bottle of wine (no corkage fee). The escargot was way better than what a snail should be (like for real, who decided to eat snails) and the CREME BRÛLÉE (don't judge me, my keyboard autocorrected those accent marks) was soo good. This extremely humble little restaurant on the edge of skid row packs a punch as big as some of the best restaurants I've been to! The name (translates to "apartment") which is very fitting. The small dining room envelopes you with rich aromas of traditional French cuisine wafting from the kitchen window. Aside from the food being absolutely delicious, each dish was beautifully plated.
