Great local place. Delicious small Italian place. The wife and I went in for dinner. We shared a Caesar salad, which was rich, tangy, and traditional with anchovies. She had the penne alla vodka with prawns. I had the Boar Ragu pasta. Hers had a nice note of pepper with a creamy finish. Mine was rich and hearty with great earthy flavor. Wine selection was quite impressive. Service was a hair slow, but very friendly. Atmosphere is very hole in the wall cafe, but a great place for classic Italian flavors. Bringing a dog to eat is not always easy but La Bottega makes it seem that way. Whenever my dog is around we sit on the nice outdoor seating and the staff usually bring my dog her own water bowl. This is such a lovely spot. The food is filling and delicious ( I always get the caesar salad and spaghetti marinara [add meatball]). It's hard to find good food on this side of the bridge, that being said La bottega is a real winner. The parking situation is meh, but I never blame parking on a restaurant. The staff was super friendly and helpful! I'm vegan so navigating a menu can be a chore and the waitress was so understand and had great suggestions! This market/restaurant is a great choice for any families and those wanting a delicious bite in a quaint spot. Although the noise level was high the taste of the food was so worth it. This has been one of our go to restaurants over the years. Outside of our lovely server, Anna, and my sons rabbit Ragu, it was a disappointment. It's always a cluster to get a table. The hosts here take their time while potential diners clog up the entrance not knowing if there is a wait list, if it's the line to get on it or just customers waiting to order or pick up to go or to get seated. It's annoying that they will not take reservations, but this just makes going here painful. Once we figure out who is waiting to get on the list and who is getting to-go orders and who is ordering food to-go and who was trying to get to their table, we put our name on the list. We proceeded to sit on the bench exactly in front of the host. I turn off the volume to my phone as not to disturb people but when our time came up to be seated the host texted us. Never did the host call out our name. We just about missed our table. Thankfully we were paying attention and realized the people ahead of us had gotten seated and checked our texts. Just seems that they should call out peoples names as well as text or maybe just somewhat remember the folks that put in their name 30 minutes ago and are sitting directly in front of you. We ordered or favorite Gorgonzola cheesecake. Disappointed it is now served with a basic whole wheat?bread rather than the delicious Grand bakery bread that it used to be served with. Our salads were served with our appetizer! There wasn't even room on the table and why would anyone want to eat their appetizer and their salad at the same time? My son's rabbit Ragu was a large portion and quite delicious. My smoked mushroom raviolis were over sauced and had a vinegar flavor. I didn't enjoy it and shouldn't have eaten them...since as I got to see them later that night. We'll probably return as we have had some delightful dining experiences here and hope for another good one. With all the restaurants coming to Vancouver, this feels like one of the few that actually makes their food from scratch. They have a wonderful wine list, and the tiramisu is always a winner. Getting the front of the house organized or taking reservations would be a step in the right direction. Or a hostess that is efficient & customer friendly would be appreciated. read more

Joe and I frequently discuss how we feel a Vancouver, Washington star means differently than a Portland, Oregon star. Thus, I try to keep our location in mind when I rate restaurants and their offerings. That said, La Bottega's food and atmosphere is so enjoyable that someone could pick this quaint little box of deliciousness and put it smack down in Lake Oswego or Sellwood or The Pearl and you'd vote 4 Portland Stars every single time. In Portland, you may complain about the parking and the fact that I did not see a beer tap in sight. I'd still vote 5, but who knows what one would do without a cold beer on a warm night. Last night, their garage doors were open so there was a cooling breeze inside. It was bustling when we walked in, but we were seated quickly. While we waited for that short time, we perused the meats, cheeses and Hawaiian salts. (The salts were a special treat for me. I'm from Hawaii and I had not expected to see a piece of home at this little Italian place.) Back to the meat and cheeses. We ordered their charcuterie plate and enjoyed every single bite. Their selection rotates so you won't likely get what we did, but take a peep at my photos so that you can salivate over the beautiful presentation. We shared a bottle of 2015 Italian Chianti and then ordered dinner to split. In comes the smoked mushroom ravioli. Our attentive server comes back and places a plate of what seems to be cooked baby turtles in their shells. Upon first sight, you will have to fight the urge to send it back. Fight the urge really hard. I mean, really fight. Take that first bite and then another and eat it all until there is no more and if your date is lucky, maybe give him some bites, too. Then order the tiramisu. I have had better tiramisu, but this one is still good. I promise. Still good. Go to La Bottega. Go now. Don't forget to be brave when the baby turtles come out. Restaurant #2 in my quarantine pick up list! First I'd like to say that through following La Bottega on social media, it looks like they are doing a wonderful job providing for the community during this time! This (and my undying love for picnics) prompted my first visit to La Bottega. After thoroughly browsing their wine list online, 3 times, I regrettably passed on buying a bottle. That being said, this place has variety! And affordable variety at that. Instead of a beverage I ended up ordering their Antipasto Platter and a fresh baguette. Perfect picnic food in my opinion. The antipasto platter was a bit smaller than expected, but I do appreciate the quality over quantity aspect. Even though my eyes said the serving was small, my stomach was satisfied. As for the baguette, you just can't go wrong with fresh baked bread! The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. With doors that open out to the sidewalk and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The wine list offers so many choices and at 50% off!! And I love dessert so the tasty dessert menu is a plus! But what really made me a devoted customer beyond all of the other qualities is the generosity of this business to the community by offering a significant discount to essential employees early in the covid outbreak. As a nurse I felt supported by the community by having a delicious meal delivered at such an awesome discount. It really made me feel cared for. A great little cafe. I was in town for work and we chose to go to La Bottega every day for lunch. I never ate there but it looked like a cute place to sit and eat. I got a different sandwich or entree every day and each one was great! The staff were always nice and patient with our group. There is so much wisdom in the statement, "sometimes the best things happen in the most unlikely of places." I must admit, we were not planning to eat dinner in Vancouver. However, the thought of driving back to Portland, then back up to Vancouver (where our daughter was), and then back to Portland to our home . . . was a bit too much for a lazy Saturday night. I therefore, consulted trusty Yelp for an option in the Couv. Oh my goodness - I am so happy I did. La Bottega is a gem of a place! A mix of a deli, select food purveyor and open floor plan trattoria - the restaurant hits the mark on so many levels. From our wait time for a table - we arrived around 6:30 pm and the line counted a half dozen people - to the server, to the delicious food, everything was awesome. The host was so kind, helped to get us drinks while we stood in front of the deli case and dodged guests going to and and fro in the small restaurant space (it was kind of fun). The server was incredibly knowledgable and steered us toward a great Sicilian bottle that made the meal. The food - we did a little "comida para compartir" and shared all of our plates - choosing one item from each section of the menu (the absolute best way to go for an interesting "tasting menu"). We had such a great time that my wife commented, as we left the restaurant, "I think I found one of my new favorite Italian places in the Portland area." So - with that, we will definitely be back! One word to the wise - the restaurant had a line out the door when we arrived at 6:30'ish pm, but by the time we settled into our third course - closer to 7:45 pm, there were empty tables.
