As a true bread lover, I had been craving La Cabra's croissant for a long time. I'd heard that it was another one of their iconic items, alongside the cardamom bun, and it did not disappoint! The crust was beautifully crisp, while the interior had a well-balanced, airy structure. Every bite was filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread. Personally, I might even like it a little more than the cardamom bun! Once again, the staff were lovely, and the interior was warm and inviting.
Such fresh pastries! I came Friday afternoon and there was a small line to order. I tried the espresso ganache cookie and cardamom bun. The espresso ganache cookie was good and very unique. The base itself was very soft and the chocolate center was great if you're a chocolate lover. The cardamom bun was my favorite. It was so soft and fresh! I didn't know what to expect but it's not a flaky pastry. It's moist and has a great cardamom flavored filling. I'd love to come back and try more pastries and their coffee!
This review is solely for the pastries I tried at La Cabra. There's always a line out the door, so expect to wait at least a good 15-20mins.. I didn't mind waiting as i've heard such great things about their pastries. Although, I didnt try the cardamom one- I was still underwhelmed. Good flavors that could have been great if they kept the pastries warm intheir display or warmed them up before giving them to you. I waited in line for cold pastries.. not worth it to me, unless you're the first one at the door when they open.
La Cabra is what my ideal coffee shop would be. Clean lines, a nice vibe/energy the moment you walk in, and I love their focus on the details. The baristas helpful, cool and not pretentious. The coffee has to be so good otherwise (and for some people maybe they do) the pastries would steal the show. My wife and I split a chocolate croissant and the Cardamom Pastry (amazing!). I love a place that cares about all the details and quality, not just presentation. Sadly I only got over here for one day of my trip to NYC but they have a seriously good coffee line-up and will be a must visit for all future trips.
I came here and got some baked goods. The ham and cheese was my favorite. All of them were light if that's your type of baked good. The prices were a little steep but also not necessarily more than they are worth. There is a line, but the place is beautiful. And the flavors are interesting and worth trying.
Interior is nice, it has about 4-5 tables with extra chairs/stools but no restrooms like most NYC bakeries. I made a mistake of getting a mocha instead of a baked item - unfortunately doesn't look like it is their strong suit. The mocha was mostly bitter and sour without a hint of chocolate. The staff who took my order and server who brought me my drink were nice and pleasant. In hindsight, instead of the mocha I should have gotten their cardamom bun which they are known for. Hopefully soon!
I love this place! Worth all the hype to me!! (Specifically this location) I had the cardamom latte! I chugged that down! The cardamom bun was to die for! I dream of it! The machine was so cool! The baristas were so cool! I loved it! I always wish it was a bigger inside to sit more but it was just so busy in there!
Came for the croissants and they did not disappoint. I showed up before opening and didn't have to wait too long to try the pastries. I know La Cabra is known for their cardamom bun but whoever said to come for the croissants was onto something. The plain and chocolate croissants are some of the better ones I've had so I'd say these are hyped to the correct degree. Definitely excited to come back to eat the croissants again and grab a coffee.
Delicious pastries, excellent coffee, warm staff. Possibly the best hot chocolate in the city. Interior design is a bit too revolutionary for my taste. And, perhaps because we came later in the day, the pastries were stone cold. Altogether, I highly recommend.
I was in the neighborhood and needed a little treat. It had been a minute since my last visit to La Cabra so I decided to stop in. I overheard the server talking about the chocolate croissants, so I was an easy decision when it was my turn to pace an order. And as always, my usual ice latte. (A side note - I am just learning that often the difference in the "size" of ice latte is the amount of milk, not the amount of espresso. For example, both the small and large latte have 2 shots of espresso. The only difference is that the large has more milk than the small. Wild, right?!) The chocolate croissant shattered when I bit into it - it was amazing. 5/5 would order again.
Mmmmmmmmmmm. That's all. Some really nice flavors and a good selection of sweet and savory pastries.
I was excited to try the cardamom bun because people kept raving about it and I most likely over hyped it in my mind. It was good not mouth wateringly amazing and something I'll dream about getting again. The line gets long but that's what's expected. From entering the store to the actual ordering it took maybe 15 mins and another 10 to get our drinks. Coffee was tasty, next time I'll need to try their matcha.
Now, I spent $16 on a pastry and two coffees this afternoon... Then I found this place. Generally, I don't go for sugary drinks so I go for an Americano with some creamer and this coffee had that floral aromatic taste and creamy texture from the cream that I like and it was perfect and it went well with the almond croissant with that custard in the middle. I'm definitely coming back here to get a good cup of coffee and this coffee was iced and yes, I know we just got over a blizzard, but it actually went pretty well.

I tried the Pain Suisse and I thought it was alright. It was nice and fresh because I went right when they opened on a weekday morning. The top was a bit more crumbly than I anticipated and the flavors of the filling weren't super strong. I would maybe try some other pastries if I came here again like their cardamom bun. Service was quick and there are a few tables to sit and work inside. read more
I get the hype. They ran out of the cardamom buns but I was able to try the saffron bun and it was amazing. Super soft and the right amount of sweetness. Perfect for dipping in coffee or chai. The vibes are also super cool and service was great. For sure will go back soon! read more
La Cabra, they are some serious coffee connoisseurs! The barista was making my wifes coffee and startled me, she said no! She threw out the coffee, I guess the temperature wasn't right? Ever see that at Starbucks? They slop it all in a cup and send you on your way. La Cabra, I had it book marked for a while. There was no line thankfully and had wonderful baked goods on display. I chose a Cannelé de Bordeaux, Cardamon bun, an OUTRAGEOUS cookie as well as my two lattes. Once my order was complete, I walked to the car and gave my wife her coffee. I opened the box and once we saw the wonderful bakery assortment, it was game on! The Cannelé de Bordeaux, IMHO was better at La Cabra than Dominique Ansel Bakery. The cookie had a christmas-gingerbread-esc cream filling, also very good. La Cabra, You are the Goat to me. read more
The hype is real. The pastries here are really good. Unfortunately they ran out of the cardamom buns before we got there so we couldn't try it, but we tried a variety of pastries. The pain au chocolat & saffron bun & almond croissant were delicious and incredibly flaky and flavorful. Will definitely be coming back to try more flavors! Only deducting a star bc we did order a ham & cheese but we didn't have it in our takeout box. Definitely recommend coming here! read more
La Cabra was hands down my favorite coffee and pastry shop in NYC. I got their Orange Cardamom iced latte every time (I went 3-4 times) and it was excellent. Their house made loaf is amazing, as is their pan du chocolate. They had great service and were always super fast despite the enormous line that I found every time I came. Not a lot of places to sit because it is always so packed, but that's not their fault. Really cute little shop. I wish we had one in Phoenix, but that would be dangerous. :) read more

I came here around 12pm on a Saturday, and the line was out the door! I definitely waited around 25 minutes. I got the canele, the famous cardamom bun, and an iced oat matcha latte. I was pleasantly surprised by the matcha latte because it was rich and actually tasted like matcha. The canele tasted a bit too burnt for my liking, but it was still crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. The letdown was surprisingly, the cardamom bun- the taste was actually a bit too strong for me. It's definitely worth checking out once, but considering the long wait and overall quality, I don't think it's somewhere I'd return to. read more
The search for Swedish Cardamom Buns brought me here. Didn't realize how easy it was getting to the coffee shop (IE. Not way over near 1st Ave. or Ave. A). It's about an 8min walk from Union Square/ 14th St. or similar from the 6/ Astor Place. I'm not familiar with this coffee shop mini-chain, but it's pretty popular! Passed by their new location in SoHo thinking they wouldn't be sold out later in the day, they actually had stanchions and a queue outside! Got to this original East Village location around 11am on a Saturday and it was very busy - not chaotic; but definitely had a line to the door, then another line on the left with people waiting for their coffee. There's only 3 small tables to the right, and to the left near the entry, a window area with 2-3 stools and a floating shelf situation where small groups have parked themselves standing, sipping, and talking. This place is definitely to-go only, I can't picture meeting anyone there to chat over a coffee, or to do work/read. You're basically sitting inside of waiting room space. That is all to say I appreciate the space, minimal rustic abstract art decor, and if I knew more about coffee, the seemingly curated drink menu and high-quality beautiful pastries. It's SO very New York and what a privilege; to see a few strollers, young kids, walking out with an artisanal croissant in their mouth, dogs waiting in line. What a life! Ordering is a little awkward because the pastry case will most likely be blocked by people waiting for their coffee, the drink menu is on the counter next to the cash register. Font on the menu & pastry labels are so tiny. It helped the line when one worker occasionally helped with orders above the pastry case with a clover device. But I guess they can't be too efficient, on the pick up line on the left would get too crowded. I got a $5.50 Cardamom Bun. Didn't see a Saffron Bun and wasn't sure if the Rye Tart would survive my errands. In my rush to order, I got a $8.25 (with 50¢ iced, 75¢ oatmilk) Cardamom Latte (with 1 shot, not 2). I think the small was 8 ounces (like a European/Asian size). Was slightly regretting not trying a simple espresso latte first at this café. BUT I quickly changed my mind upon first sip. The drink was super smooth! The cardamom flavor was not-too-sweet. I didn't have the cardamom bun along with it. Everything would've been probably too sweet. Onto the cardamom bun! It was a lot smaller than expected (compared to other bakeries' similar buns), literally about 5-6" long... Had it later at home and the flavor is nice, medium sweet; but the whole bun was like a brioche without a lot of definition from the different strips of wrapped dough. It all cooked into one ball. Not sure if this is the particular style of the bakery would have thought that the dough would have been slightly more laminated. Glad to have tried this, but the bun at Sm-r Bakery in the same neighborhood is better. Excellent coffee though! I like that the baristas are in kind of lab coats and meditatively working at the counter. Nice relaxed staff, considering the busyness. read more
I come here primarily for the cardamom buns, they are so yummy. The coffee is pretty good also, although I've been unimpressed by their matcha before. The canneles were a bit inconsistent -- we bought two and one for sure tasted quite burnt. read more

Well this sucks to do but this one missed the mark. For what they had in offerings service felt pretty slow moving. The options are small maybe 8-10 items in the case to pick from. Like 90% being laminated pastries so it just feels like looking at a bunch of the same thing. Nothing special that stands out. They certainly are in the laminated pasties hype train which is disappointing. The one or two items that weren't laminated were ehh options. Unfortunately with how slow the line was loving and how "bland" the case felt with everything looking the same I ended up just leaving and not ordering anything. So they may be delicious but while we eat with our eyes they didn't make me visually hungry to spend the money. read more

The Petit Suisse is luscious. A pastry with chocolate and magic inside. All I know is that with each bite I am in heaven. I have started frequenting La Cabra more often and sometimes I am able to get a seat. I had the almond croissant a few days ago and it is different from the usual rendition in other patisseries. Mary and Karina always help me. With the humidity coming the pastry can get deflated fast if it's made with laminated dough so it's best to take large bites to enjoy it quickly. read more
Came by on a rainy sunday at 1 and there were only a few people in front of me! Tried their chocolate croissant (6.5) and cardamon bun (5) and matcha latte (8+1) w oat milk. The croissant was superrr flaky and very yummy! The cardamon bun was compared to the one from smor bakery a few blocks away, also yummy. The matcha latte was disappointing :( read more

The best coffee shop I visited in New York! Love their variety of pastries and how authentic the coffee is. So rich in flavor! They don't offer working from here, so if you're looking to work at a cafe this isn't the one for you. But it has cozy vibes if you're looking to catch up over coffee and some pastries. I also love their marketing the to-go cups are so cute! read more

I've finally tried La Cabra after seeing it on social media and it's pretty good!! I ordered an iced and hot matcha latte with oat milk, which were both really good! Their menu states that they use Kettl matcha so I think it's definitely a quality blend. I also enjoyed the layout of the business so you can see them prepare the drink. Of note, the line was REALLY long. I thought the work flow of the staff was generally quick, but this is definitely not the spot to come to if you have somewhere to be or want to grab a quick drink before work! I also find the prices to be very comparable to other trending cafes in NYC. You definitely have to devote some time to getting a drink from here lol. They also didn't have any vegan pastries, but I thought their offerings looked really pretty and my friend said that the cardamom buns were AMAZING!! The vibe of the shop is a typical trendy but chill shop. Also know that there is very MINIMAL seating so you can sit there if you're lucky enough to snag a seat, but this is more of a grab and go type of place. I overall really enjoyed my time here! I don't see myself returning too often just due to the wait time and lack of seating, but it's definitely a great place! read more
They have the BEST iced matcha lattes i have ever tried! Their baked pastries are also delicious and fresh. I always come here to order my matcha bc it's strong and you can add simple syrup on the side as well. This spot is always filled with people coming in and out and there are some seats inside. read more
La Cabra is such a beloved spot in the East Village and my favorite Scandinavian bakery in NYC! Everything from their popular cardamom buns to their iced lattes is top tier quality and it's very clear that their pastries are made with the freshest ingredients. Both the saffron and cardamom buns are delicious, fluffy, and not too sweet. I believe their matcha is also ceremonial grade and it comes out in the most beautiful shade of vibrant green. The line is fairly long, definitely expect at least a 5 minute wait especially during mornings. read more
When I walked into La Cabra, I felt like I had just snorted an adderall. The music was like a "deep house music to focus" youtube mix, the interior is squeaky clean - I would legit eat off these floors, overhead beam lights exactly 2 feet apart, and just sharp right angles everywhere. Everything in here is calculated, idk how else to explain it. It's almost scary clean. Reminds me of a Stanley Kubrick film. My Shuài Gē (handsome big bro) brought me here, as he said it's the closest thing in the US to his favorite pastry shop in Amsterdam. He got an iced americano and two pieces of sourdough bread with a slice of cheese between. Kids a psycho. He was smiling ear to ear on every bite though. I was a chunkster all day yesterday, so I didn't get anything but as I'm sitting here typing this, I'm realizing I should have got a croissant as they looked SO good and I'm seeing all these other reviews gassing them up. Stopped by for a quick pick-me-up on a weekend afternoon... well, "quick" I suppose - unsurprisingly the queue was quite long, since it's a popular place haha. Fortunately, the baristas were very efficient and the queue moved briskly, and I got my iced matcha latte in no time. The matcha latte was lovely; it wasn't too sweet, and you could really taste the depth and richness of the matcha flavour throughout. It was a bit on the pricey side (but then again, what popular café in Manhattan isn't nowadays?) - I'd definitely come back for a splurge. The interior is really nice - I love the colour scheme and the decor overall, although my biggest gripe is that there is really not enough seating, either inside or outside. I don't fault them personally - I know real estate is precious in NYC lol - but ofc it's just something that would be nice to have, I think, especially for people like me who dislike drinking beverages while on foot or walking around. (Just let me have a leisurely fika!) I would love to come back to try some of their pastries next time (the semla looks particularly delicious) read more
Crossover coffee place with a salon de the vibe. Like it or hate it (more like). 4.5. nice place to hangout (with a sense of victory if you find a chair, even more so table!). Upbeat and friendly staff, don't feel the Seinfeld-ish New York vibe (gruff shades of the soup nazi) - almost feel of being transported to 'frisco. Fresh, delicious, and affordable. Not too heavy / oily like other croissants are. If you like your pastries on the drier side this is the place for you. Following my inaugural visit today, you can count me among La Cabra's legions of fans. The cardamom bun is perfection. The delicate cardamom spice isn't exactly subtle, but it's not overpowering, and other elements of the pastry also shine, like the soft, lightly sweet interior, and the sweet crunchy sugar glaze on the outside. I also wanted to try a ham and cheese croissant, but they were out. Instead, with a staff member's recommendation, I ordered a plain croissant. It was excellent: Impossibly soft and chewy on the inside, flaky and crunchy on the outside. Don't sleep on the coffee here, either. I had an "iced espresso and milk" (so basically an iced latte) and it was obviously made with really high quality espresso and had a bold flavor. I usually like to add a little sweetness to my coffee, but I added just the smallest splash of simple syrup to this and it was plenty because the coffee was just so good. Apparently there's pretty much always a line here, and today was no exception, even though it was Labor Day and everyone's supposedly out of town. The line had maybe 10-15 people on the sidewalk when I joined, with more inside, but it moved fairly quickly and wasn't too much of a bother. read more
Super super popular cafe! Lines were almost out the door. Seems to be mainly a drink cafe rather than a bakery cafe, so definitely come for the coffee/teas! The line was long but moved super fast. Tried a bite of the sesame bread and cheese which was quite solid! The space was pretty small (only a few tables) but cozy. Will definitely be back to try their drinks! read more

2/2 Food + Beverages; 1/1 Value; 1/1 Service; 1/1 Ambience La Cabra is essentially artisanal coffee served in a minimalist place. The company has Danish roots with global inspiration under a permeating principle of intention. The pastry chefs and baristas are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their service and craftsmanship, and they were engaging in their explanation of the process from bean cultivation to pouring the final cup. My friend is an espresso aficionado, so he was very engaged in the conversation, but the barista broke down the information for me even as a lay coffee enthusiast. I have been to La Cabra on multiple occasions and have tried a variety of their offerings. Their espressos are very carefully crafted to allow robustness of the notes and are generally on the stronger side. The selections also rotate on a seasonal basis. I enjoy their matcha lattes, which are well balanced, but are not as robust or earthy as I generally appreciate matchas. They boast a variety of pastries, and I have found that in general, the Nordic pastries are exceptional, if not underrated, whereas the French pastries, i.e. croissants and pain, are good, but relatively underwhelming. One item that I would highly recommend is the cardamom bun, which is just glorious! It's soft and chewy with a perfect dusting of cardamom sugar that feels like a warm embrace on an autumn day. Another great treat is the banana caramel cookie, which is a rather sweet, but decadent and delicate treat. An interesting aspect and point of attraction for La Cabra is the layout that allows customers to glimpse into the baking process in the back and engage the baristas in the coffee making process in the front. The prices are generally fair for the high quality, service, and craftsmanship as well. I have never been to La Cabra when the line was not extending out the door, but it generally moves quickly without any compromise to the quality or service. I definitely look forward to the opportunities to revisit and try new items! read more
La Cabra brings the essence of Scandinavian coffee and pastry to New York. Everything about this place brings me back to fika in Sweden. Even on an early Thursday afternoon, the place is packed with people. Despite the cafe being busy, the interior evokes a feeling of zen. The minimalist and natural touches make the place feel warm and welcoming. Never mind the ambiance, the large display case of carefully crafted pastries alone is reason enough to hop in. Service is nice and friendly and I ordered two iced espressos with oat milk, a croissant, and a strawberry tart. While I waited, I was able to grab a large pitcher of water and some cups to an outside table while my partner saved a seat. Taste wise the espresso was high quality and perfectly balanced with the oat milk. The cups are branded with a pretty outline of a goat making the coffee cups super instagrammable. The pastries were just as tasty as they looked and worth the cost. The croissant is crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside making it fair competition with the croissants from Dominique Ansel and other famous bakeries in the city. The strawberry tart was my favorite and was mildly sweet with soft cream and passionfruit puree in the middle held together by the buttery tart. 11/10 for everything. I can't wait to come back to try the cardamom bun and have some more coffee. If you're able to get a seat, this is the perfect place for a coffee date. read more
La Cabra is phenomenal. They put so much care and attention to the quality of their coffee and baked goods, and it shows! However, the space itself is small so the line can get a bit egregious. I came midday on a Friday and the line was way out the door. My wait was around 25 minutes, but I guess that's a testament to the caliber of their product. I had the iced espresso with oat milk and added simple syrup, and it was one of the best lattes I've had. The espresso was SO rich and full bodied. Moreover, I had the chocolate croissant which was also solid. I'd love to come back soon to explore the rest of their coffee menu! read more

The cardamom bun deserves all its flowers. It was sweet and savory at the same time, and really soft even at room temperature. Coffee was okay, got the iced chai latte and the cardamom latte. The cardamom latte was bitter even after addition of have, chi latte tasted good, but not unique in taste compared to other cafes. Despite the cafe being packed the staff kept everyone moving really quickly. read more
I've heard a lot of love for La Cabra, so I'm glad I got to check it out. The pastries are all beautiful. They are known for the cardamom buns, but I prefer cinnamon. It was very good, but nothing so crazy it blew my mind. The coffee was nice too but also nothing special. The staff is very nice, and it's cool that you can see the kitchen. I like the ambiance inside of you are lucky to snag a table. read more
