Solid family style Italian restaurant on Main Street Babylon. Stopped in on a Sunday early at 3 and already there were 3 large groups celebrating and eating. While it was extremely loud, the waitstaff was top shelf in service, and in describing the numerous daily specials. Portions were as advertised family style so get ready to share and bring doggie bags home. Our first course was the silky creamy mozzarella over arugula served with green and black olives, roasted peppers and excellent pork belly bacon that was crunchy and delicious. We had a half portion of the five star jumbo meatballs that hat a hit of nutmeg and milked soaked breadcrumbs over al dente ziti. Good but just standard veal Parmesan and a very good tortellini with baby peas and shrimp in an ala vodka like sauce. We did get toasted Italian bread to start but was hoping for some garlic knots or garlic bread and an olive oil dipping sauce. I had to change it up. I cant keep going to Francesco's...people are going to start asking questions who the fuck is this guy and doesnt he have a home?? So with that being stated...I told myself, its time to explore and see what alternatives there are in the Babylon/Islip area for Italian. It certainly was a solid audible for Francescos as La Famiglia offers family style and a very different menu compared to not just Francescos but the overriding majority of Italian joints in the area. Its nice to see some diversity in an Italian menu then your go to...Chicken Masala penne alla blah blah blah.. Best waiters!! That really made the experience nice. Really cool specials that I had to try. I got a thing of Broccoli Rabb and Braciole with Rigatoni. The pasta was light(non bloating feeling) with light red sauce. Service is professional, ambiance is comfortable with nice lighting and the food, for the most part, is delicious. Somewhat expensive but when you break it down, far better food than a dump like Francesco's, where you pay the same amount for garbage and abusive service. I was looking for a restaurant to celebrate my birthday and remember this place being good a long time ago. They got better. The family style portions were great and plentiful. The waitstaff were attentive. The appetizers were huge. I would recommend this place for any occasion whether it's a birthday, anniversary or just the family looking for a good meal. I've have read great reviews about this restaurant and decided to try it out with my boyfriend this past weekend. However, our experience fell far short from what I anticipated.  We started our meal with an appetizer of mozzarella sticks which at $15.95 was a little bit alarming, but I decided to try them anyhow. I was shocked to find they had no taste to them and seemed more like store bought cheese sticks than ones found at a nice Italian restaurant. They really tasted like heated frozen food that you can get at Costco. For our main course we ordered a full order of chicken parmigiana. This is when we really noticed just how underwhelming the food was. The red sauce was watery, no hint of garlic or basil or any other herb that I could think of and to top it off the pasta was overcooked. It really tasted liked just stewed tomatoes with mushy noodles. I am used to such good places like Butera's and expected something similar from a place like this. Please do not assume that with this restaurant. What happened next is what truly amazed me. Our waiter who was a really a great server asked us how our meal was. We told him the truth that it seemed very bland and watery. He stated that he would get the owner and let him know. About 5 minutes passed and the owner looked at our table and proceeded straight to the kitchen, which surprised me as he did not acknowledge me and my boyfriend as we saw him wiz past us. He came out from the kitchen and told us that he talked to the chef and they had determined that the sauce was of optimal quality and that nothing was wrong with it. That is when I advised him that as his customer it was very bland and watery. He said it was perfect and that he has been in business for 50 years and that we were wrong.  I was shocked. Never in my life have I had a business owner to tell my that my opinion of their food was wrong. I totally understand if that is how their sauce tastes. But, rather than offer up a solution he stated we were wrong.  We went back and forth for about a minute describing our opinions on the food when he asked if this was our first time to the restaurant which replied it was. To my amazement he stated that we should never come back again. Hey you don't have to tell me twice. Your food was of incredibly poor quality and your wanton disregard for showing respect to your customers is even more atrocious. read more

I came Saturday night for a friends birthday and I wasn't really impressed with anything other than the bruschetta and the white wine. This was a family style dinner and the $70 per person price was way too high for my liking for food that was just okay. The servers were amazing and the decor was nice. I went with my family for my dad's 50th birthday celebration. The food and service was unbelievable! Let's get straight to the food (all family-style, besides dessert): For appetizers we started with the fried zucchini and a special: a burrata cheese caprese plate with slab bacon. The cheese was UNREAL, so rich and creamy, and the thick-cut bacon was the best bacon I have ever eaten (which happens to be a lot of bacon lol). The fried zucchini was delicious also, cut thin and not greasy at all. For entrées we all shared 4 different meals (we had 7 people in our party). We got the veal parmigiana, the seafood combo, the cheese raviolis, and a special: chicken rollatini. Everything was amazing! The veal was thin, crispy, and nicely breaded. The seafood was all fresh. The cheese ravioli were cooked perfectly. The special was my absolute favorite. It was a chicken rollatini stuffed with mushrooms, spinach, of course cheese! And topped with a yummy sauce with crumbled sausage. AMAZING! For dessert we tried quite a few: tartufo, peanut butter cheesecake, and the Reese's cake. All perfectly sweet and yummy! Such an amazing dining experience: Both the meal and the service. The waiters were knowledgeable about the menu and never left a glass empty. Definitely will be returning. read more

This used to be her favorite restaurant over all others. Lately the food has been downsized and quality is just not there anymore. The specials are not too inventive and usually are out of cheaper cuts of meat and fish. They must've hired and an experienced bartender as the drinks are not made to good! La famiglia is great! My family and I usually go there for all holidays and family events. They serve family style and every single thing on the menu is great. I love the pasta bolognase, the fried calamari and the penne alla vodka, but everything is delicious. Also, my favorite dessert is their peanut butter cheesecake. I ordered Campagnola...which is chicken and broccoli with garlic and oil with penne pasta. I could hardly taste the garlic and there wasn't much chicken or broccoli. My husband ordered Penne Siciliana which is penne with sausage and eggplant in a spicy sauce. The sauce wasn't spicy at all and there wasn't much sausage. The appetizers were good...baked clams, stuffed mushrooms, fried calamari and fried zucchini sticks. Friendly staff. Bad parking. High prices for what we got. read more

Tried for the first time. We shared mozzarella/tomatoes/roasted peppers to start. Very good, nice presentation, but what I thought was slightly odd, was 3 pieces of tomato and 2 slices of mootz. Usually in most places it's mootz for every tomato. Had chicken parm which was very good, bro had tortellini with shrimp, peas, in a cognac cream sauce. Very rich , but he says was good. The food was delicious but that's about it. We called numerous times before hosting a party here to confirm that this restaurant is celiac friendly, that there was sangria pitchers, etc. When we got there, the waiter told us a completely different story from what the person who answered the phone told us. It was pretty irritating. I understand my group may have been a bit of a difficult party due to one member's celiac disease, but the waiter should not make us feel like we are inconveniencing him by eating there. That's how we all felt which is really unfortunate. It was a pretty tense environment and was hard to enjoy the meal. They never gave us ice to chill our wine, we asked for a coffee refill and it never came, they make us order all courses at the same time because "the chef likes to receive the entire order at once" -- well excuse me. It honestly felt like we were doing them a favor by eating there. I don't like to feel like this when dining, as I am sure most agree. Also, the atmosphere is strange. The place seems unfinished. Although I was disappointed with my Ala Amatriciana, I would go back again. My pasta had too many onions and too much bacon actually. And it tasted like American bacon, not Italian bacon. The fried calamari appetizer could have fed 6 people. It was a bit bready and chewy. The portion sizes were huge (family style) Two people could actually split a half portion of pasta. My daughter had the linquini with white clam sauce, which had too much wine. My husband had the penne a la vodka and the pasta was slightly overcooked. I'm still giving this place four stars, even though it doesn't seem consistent with my review. Next time I would order differently and I would recommend this place for a large group. read more

My wife and I went to see "So Good" A Neil Diamond Experience at the Argyle Theatre in Babylon,NY and before the show we wanted to eat at La Famiglia. We had eaten there in November when we saw Beauty & The Beast at the Argyle Theatre. My wife had called last Tuesday and explained that we needed a reservation for two at their restaurant on Friday January 13, 2023. They told my wife that they did not make reservations for two at their restaurant and that there would be no problem getting a table "WITH NO WAITING TIME". We arrived at the restaurant on Friday evening January 13th to have dinner at La Famiglia Restaurant only to be told that there was a 45 minute wait to get a table. This would have created a situation where we would have missed our show. This policy of not making reservations for two people is ludicrous. I liked the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant and I was looking forward to going there again but I don't think we will ever go back there again. La Famiglia - isn't that The Family in Italian. Well we didn't feel like family at all. read more

I was given a gift card to eat here so I went there with my wife and my parents. Most of the food was ok. We ordered a pasta carbonara dish, but they brought something else instead. I brought it to the waiter's attention and waited for what we ordered. We then got a soupy dish of hard pasta with warm milk. It was probably rushed since our order was messed up, and I didn't really care all that much but I had to bring it to the waiter's attention. I forgot his name, maybe it was Nick, but he seemed not pleased that the dish that he didn't cook was not acceptable. Instead of just taking the dish back, especially after the order was messed up originally, he made it a point to tell me a few times "that's how we make our carbonara". So apparently I had no business telling him that hard pasta in milk is not an acceptable dish. He then told me that had I just waited a little while, the dish would've been edible. So, basically I should've just waited 5 or 10 minutes to eat my dish. When I disagreed, he again was not pleased. Well we were not pleased either. You know since we were paying and all, so we discussed our displeasure with one another on our way out privately. Apparently, our private conversation was not so private, and the owner overheard us and attempted to make the situation better. I think his name was Renee, and while I think he had a good intention, his pride and 1990's, maybe early 2000's, wanna be guido mentality just got in the way. The same can be said for the waiter. I'm not impressed nor would I recommend this place in today's restaurant options. read more

Seeing as I live in Bayshore, my husband and I tend to gravitate towards the Babylon location. However, I met with a few coworkers after work to go to the Smithtown location - for the first time. I heard from them that the place was closed and re-renovated. Not sure what it looked like beforehand but it's beautiful for now for sure! Let me just say - stick with Babylon. Babylon can get quite noisy, but I could hear more of the table next to me's conversation than my own when I was in Smithtown. The drinks at Babylon are strong - but good! I'm never one to complain about that. Babylon's food is also much better in general. I understand no 2 chefs are the same but just order their primavera dishes and you get 2 completely different orders (with Babylon's as the winner when they're meant to be a chain restaurant) The best dishes to order at Babylon? Hot antipasto (so you can get a little of everything), linguini in white clam sauce, sole oreganata, and their burrata. I'm watering at the mouth just thinking of it. The hostesses at Smithtown were very overwhelmed and a little too insecure to give me peace of mind if they're telling me the wait time. Rosario knows how to run a well-oiled machine in Babylon and just hires the best of the best- Kevin, Michael, Amanda, Tyler, Guiseppe! All amazing. Go to Babylon and ask Amanda to seat you with Michael and Tyler. They're worth the wait!! They'll tell you the best options and make sure you don't order too much. My only complaint is still the amount of people who sing happy birthday is still quite limited. I see 1 or 2 at a time doing it. Ruins the spirit. read more

Hot antipasto can be was a great start to the meal with perfectly cooked calamari, baby shrimp, mussels (there was some eggplant there too but I don't eat that, everyone said it was good too) The steak dish was outrageously delicious (seemed pricy but really was not as it can feed a ton of people). Took one star off because the space for family style is kind of limited. Also, just like most family style restaurants, be careful to gauge your own appetite and look at the other dishes that are on the tables as you get into the restaurant as the waiter may over feed you with recommendations. Wait was bit long, but the bar is nice with hand made chips to snack on while you wait. I will be back. read more

The food portions have really downsized. For a family of 7, ordering 4 appetizers and 4 entrees was NOT enough. To reference the downsizing...The chicken parm and chicken scarpello only had 3 thin slices of chicken on each plate (2 chicken breasts total) , the shrimp scampi had no more than 10 shrimp and the pasta with garlic and broccoli definitely was less than a pound... this is supposed to be "family style".. pretty disappointing after spending over 350$ for dinner. Start to finish everything was truly amazing. Walked in for reservation at 830 it was packed but we sat right away. Our waiter Tyler was very knowledgeable and extremely attentive and all the staff were very attentive as well. We didn't have to wait for refills they asked before we were even done. This review has to be as precise as possible because the maitre d' (or manager, or ??) told me that some of our party of 12 showed up at 8:13 for our 8:00 reservation. This was true. Three or four people had to find to find parking as the restaurant's lot was full. 8 or 9 people were there exactly at 8:00. There was no available table for us. We had made the reservation a week in advance and had confirmed the day before. That said, we were seated at 8:43. We were constantly told by management that "we would be taken care of". The man making these promises should not be in the hospitality business and his poor attitude ruined the evening for all. I guess He also forgot the part about "taking care of us". During our 43 minute wait (precisely) we were not offered a drink, a cookie, or anything other than a bad attitude. The meal itself was fine. Food as expected for a family-style Italian restaurant and a very apologetic waiter. The bill was extremely reasonable. Isn't it sad that every one of the 12 people at dinner said that they never would return. Perhaps an apology from management or a cookie would have made a difference. For me too many restaurants appreciate my business. I don't have to return to a place that I felt unwanted. read more
