Disappointed. I normally go to the Mueller location and it it's fantastic! They always get it just right. Today we visited the Brodie location. I ordered a CREPE. An "omelette" was rung up. I was still standing there when the person taking the order specifically told the back of the house that it should be a crepe, not an omelette. No problem...we all make mistakes. I get my order and it's an omelette. I send it back and get back the same omelette thrown into the crepe. I take the omelette thrown into a crepe back and a young lady proceeds to tell me that that's how they make the crepes. - No it isn't....I don't like burnt/crispy eggs in my crepe. I popped in here for a quick bite to eat one afternoon. I was wanting a salad or sandwich something and I happened to be in the Sunset Valley shopping center so I pulled in here out of convenience really. I ended up ordering the cranberry pecan balsamic vinaigrette salad with chicken on it. It was a good decent salad. Nothing fancy. I got the medium salad which was plenty filling as well. The inside atmosphere here is pretty cozy I would say. They have a rustic look going on and a fake fireplace (at least I think it is fake). The staff was friendly and the man busing the tables I noticed was doing a great job. I would definitely consider this an A-OK option for a decent salad. read more

I haven't been to La Madeline in a couple years and was kind of disappointed when I went this week. I had the salmon Cesar salad and it was not like I remembered at all... The lettuce was like the pale green, crunchy end pieces of the romaine lettuce. In my opinion, those are kind of the trash pieces. What happened to the beautiful, quality, dark green lettuce they used to serve? And there were hardly any croutons. I think I counted 2 or 3 tiny ones on the bottom. They used to mix the salad in a big bowl as you ordered it. I did not watch them prepare it so I'm not for sure what they did, but it seemed like it came out of a tub of already made salad. The parmesan cheese was in a little plastic container on the side and the salmon was on top. I really hope this was just a one off bad experience. read more

I'm not sure what kind of business the current manager runs, but seriously, with service like we experienced, why bother coming to La Madelaine? We've been going to LM since it first opened in Bethesda MD many many years ago. Oh how far have you fallen.... : ( 1) on a Friday night the staff, was all teens. They seemed vacant eyed and sloth-like. One was laying the pastries into an empty counter display one at a time, meticulous and slow, oblivious to all around him, adjust each pastry according to some geometrical fantasy in his mind. The person taking the orders seemed like she just woke up, every response preceded by several blinks, long pause, hesitation, then some sort of generic answer. "What kind of sides?" Blink .. blink... blink... pause ... uh... pause... "soup, salad, or fruit". Yeah. Helpful, as I stood there menu in hand looking for the sides listing... 2) we both got bowls of country potato soup. A guy comes in from the kitchen with a big bag of creamy looking liquid. He proceeds to open it, and in livestock feed style,dump it into the soup pans as if they were livestock throughs. Now I'm not at all under any illusions that's what's usually happens in the kitchen outside of customer eyesight. But usually, staff have the training and decency to do it in the kitchen, to maintain the illusion it's prepared and cooked back there... My wife asks: "is it hot"? Pause... stare... " yes definitely" says the guy who had been shouldering the feedstock bag. We get to the table. It's between cold and tepid. I take the two bowls back to the counter. "Can you microwave these a bit to get them hot in this cold rainy day?" Pause... stare... "Oh we don't have microwaves". " So how did the bag get hot then?" Pause. Blink. Blink. Blink. Stare... Ordered the country breakfast and was disappointed by the decline in quality since I last ate at a La Madeline in Houston years ago. Bacon seemed like it was microwaved and limp. Something was off about the bread. Cappuccino was overly diluted with milk. Overall this meal was not worth the price premium over a McDonald's or other fast-food breakfast. read more

You've got to be kidding me. I've been doing catering with this place for 3 years. I've literally spent over 10,000 here and yesterday I decided to use an app for ordering instead of calling like usual. Placed my order for Thursday. This morning I get a call that my order is ready, I tell the person who calls my order was not for today, it's for Thursday and she very rudely stated that it's paid for already and it's ready now. DO NOT USE THE APP.! I've never felt so disrespected in my life. I know what I placed an order for, and when. But these idiots want to charge me because THEY screwed up?? Really?? came here with a group of my relatives for dinner and had a good experience. Its been years since I've been to a La Madeleine so I had to familiarize myself with the menu again. The restaurant itself transports you into a French bistro somewhere in the countryside where the service is friendly, the wine is plenty and the company is the best of all. Besides their yummy freshly baked sweets they also have tons of freshly baked bread whose names I can't pronounce or spell...I got their Pasta La Madeleine which is creamy wild mushroom sauce sautéed with steamed broccoli, fresh-diced tomatoes, balsamic-marinated chicken or roasted shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. I also got to try their quiche Florentine Or lorraine which is Spinach custard with Swiss, baked in a pie crust. I also got to try their eclair and their Strawberry Napoleon. All was very good and satisfying but their napoleon was worth every penny...thats some good stuff...I would definitely come back here next time I'm in the area... read more

I have been ordering to go since restaurant is closed & I am still getting excellent food. We've been coming in occasionally for years & have enjoyed it very much. The few times we didn't enjoy 1st taste we spoke up right away & they fixed it. It is 1 of my favorite restaurants for quick tasty food! Love their pastries especially Linzer cookies. Breakfast is really good especially scrambled eggs & omelettes. I'm a purist about potatoes so their potatoes patty doesn't do much for me but my husband loves it! I love their chicken friand with mushroom sauce & we both love their strawberries romanoff! Most of the time everyone is cheerful & happy when we were able to go inside. If not we figured it wasn't a good day for whoever & hoped other people were forgiving on our bad days. read more

Beautiful presentation of pastries, warm inviting environment. Good for groups, families and kids. Breakfast is served all day. Definitely try the croque monsoir. Good sandwich. I see I'm not alone when leaving a bad review about this Madeleine' location. Overall, it was a bad experience even though the food was good. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and the cashier asked me if I was due tomorrow because I looked like I was about to pop. It was rude and body shaming. Then, my sandwich came in the wrong bread. This is my experience working here: I dont know where to start but i assure you you dont want anything from the kitchen here. I worked here looking for a quick job. Was quick to take on alot of responsibility. Working 40+ hours a week everyday i would run this kitchen alone, when we seat about 100 people at a time, begging my manager to help me find someone to work with me and never found anyone, even after they hired my friend they didnt let her work kitchen with me. Weekends were hell at the same time to be expected were ticket times under 5 minutes. We were NOT allowed to request holidays off. But heres where it gets bad. My kitchen "manager" where most places would call a head chef, I would not come close to calling this person a head chef. This "manager" constantly picking food he dropped up off the ground and serving it. In my disgust i would try to throw away anything he picked up and insist a remake. Ive seen him pick baguettes out of the trash and serve it. Knifes that fell off the floor- couldnt even get a wipe from a rag before using again. This was one reason I believed i wasnt in a professional environment. Second comes the sexual harassment I experienced from not one but TWO minors boys in the work place. Inappropriate touching and poking i asked multiple times to stop. Not to mention inappropriate language and come ons from these too. Make me sick to come to work and made me feel disgusting. Now comes how much they overworked us. Never time and a half on holidays and though im loyal to my jobs i don't expect them to work me to death. i became the catering director to step in and they promised me a 3.50 raise that i never received for driving what not. Not to mention this place has never heard of salt or pepper. Some bland ass food. I get this is a chain, and they happen to be doing the best out of all the locations in the city, guess that says alot about this place. So no i dont recommend working here or eating here. Also their "cold brew" is not cold brew. Its ice coffee lol. read more

Very cute little spot. My mom and I were running errands in Sunset Valley and wanted a nice breakfast spot. We popped in to La Madeleine and were pleasantly surprised. You order your food and then take a number and sit down. They bring your food to you once it is ready. They had a great selection of freshly baked items and made-to-order items. They also had an extensive bakery that looked delish! The service was VERY friendly and the employees positive attitudes were infectious. They had fireplaces going and we found a table near one. We loved the ambiance. Prices were very fair as well. We saw a few people nestled into corners with a book or working on their laptop. You can tell how it would be a nice play to work for a few hours. We will be back! read more

Good in a pinch, but just not anything spectacular. I once told someone I hated La Madeleine. They asked why, and I replied there is just too much wood. It frightens me. That's known as Xylophobia. Seriously, wood surrounds you everywhere! But why am I not REALLY 100% on board . . . well it always seems more like a snack than anything else. And the croissant breakfast sandwich I ate here recently was just too similar to Burger King's. I saw this place on Brodie and thought, "I wanna go eat in that Hansel and Gretel house." So I went. Inside it's cafeteria style dining with a French twist for those who have never been to France. If you've ever had French food or have been to France then you'll ask yourself, "What the fuck is this?" Oh, they've got French bread. I see. So I kinda stand around at the wooden podium with a menu in my hand and order the French Dip sandwich. The 6'3, 280 lb guy with a tattoo of a V8 engine with fire shooting out of the tail pipes taking my order had a beret on and even though he looked like a white power guy from that movie American History X he said, "Bon jour" so I guess he was French. He put a wooden spoon with a number on it on my tray and off I went into France. France: Wooden furniture, antiques placed carefully, a fireplace, wooden beams on the ceiling and some old people eating the free bread and jelly. Free bread and jelly? Oh sweet France. I get some free bread and some plastic containers of different jellies and wait for my French Dip. France hasn't been this generous since they gave us the Statue of Liberty (some assembly required) and I'm not the only one who thinks so. As I sit there, in France, an old fat lady takes the lid off her jelly and knocks it back like it were a shot of whiskey. She does it again. This time I can see her tongue lashing around the inside of the clear plastic trying to suck down every last morsel of jelly and I have to look away. Her poor husband and I can smell her getting fatter by the second, but doesn't bother to look up from his newspaper. I can imagine them sitting around on the back porch on long, hot weekends. Him with his paper and iced tea, her with her sweaty back and big gulp of blackberry preserves. Each sipping and slurping with contentment as her restin' bench creaks with strain. I open the plastic lid of my jelly container, use a butter knife to dab a little jelly on my bread and just look at it. I can't go on. I get up and move tables for fear that this truly is the house of Hansel and Gretel and the jelly drinking fat woman is simply warming up and soon will consume everyone in the building including white power Pierre, then the entire building and then eat the entire Home Depot where I'm headed to next. OK, just because someone says "bonjour" and wears a beret does not make a restaurant French. The food is mediocre bistro food at best. However, I have a real bone to pick with the boulangerie (bread shop) at the front of the restaurant. I honestly don't think that the people who enjoy these croissants have ever had a truly great croissant in their life. Lifeless, gummy, dense and overly buttered, these croissants have about as much to do with French cuisine as French Fries. I even gave the chocolate croissant a shot, thinking it couldn't get any worse than the standard croissant. Wrong. The inside was even gummier than the standard croissant. The food? I've been a few times in my life, but it's not any place to write home about. The tomato basil soup is good, but it has about twenty bajillion calories in it so it darn well better be. The quiches are overcooked, with rubberband-textured eggs. The bread tastes about a day old, and is cut far too neatly. If they're trying to capture a true French bistro feel, they have failed. This is what Chili's would be like if it existed in the 19th Arr of Paris. Before being burned down in a riot, of course. When I think of La Madeleine, I think "comfort food" and I'm usually not disappointed. I dropped into this place last night for a quick dinner and realized "yes, I do like this place". The staff is always pretty nice and helpful and more so at this location considering the "guy" HAD to be completely baked. You know, high. From the reefer! Haha. Just thought I'd clarify it for those food-minded people out there. Anyway, I don't see what's wrong about loving this place. I really don't. I came in yesterday after I ordered food I went to pay and proceeded to insert my card into the chip reader, the chip reader said to remove my card because it didn't read it right and the lady with blonde hair who rang up my order caught a very rude attitude with me and kept telling me to leave the card in lol so I did but after the 3rd time of it saying it couldn't read it she began to become more upset as if it was my fault that my card wasn't working with the chip reader. She was very rude with me I wish I had someone else who would've rang up my food! I wish I could've gotten her name. I absolutely loved eating at La Madeleine I would say it was one of my favorite restaurants but after this past expierence I'm sad to say that I don't think I will be coming back ever again! read more

This particular location just bites. I ordered a spinach salad and they started making a Caesar. I ordered an iced latte, they brought out a steaming mug. My daughter's grilled cheese was completely charred on one side. If she weren't 4 years old, I would've sent it back...but removing a plate of food from a 4 year old will get you kill't man. When I did get my spinach salad, it featured very little spinach. My iced latte was weak and completely unappetizing. Won't be back for a return visit. read more

The menu says it was a chicken breast but it was actually pre-sliced Tyson chicken strips that tasted frozen. The rice was mushy and tasted like sand. A gift card brought me into... OMG, I'm in France!!!?! I'm at La Madeleine!!! They have croissants, and little tarts, and look the tarts come in small, medium and large, how Americanly convenient of them! I should eat them all since French women aren't fat! Wait a minute... where are the french people? And where the f*ck is the French countryside? Oh that's right, I'm in a shopping mall off Brodie and am surrounded by mommies and grandmas (shout out to mah ladies!) La Madeleine tries ridiculously hard to combine french food in a luby's like atmosphere and stuff cheesy french phrases down your throat while you use la toilette. As for the food, the tomato bisque was super rich, delicious and reminded me of the magic of real butter. My salad was bland and expensive for only mixed greens and vinaigrette, but it did taste fresh. My boyfriend ordered a Mediterranean pasta dish with olives, artichokes and mushrooms that was a little too heavy on olive oil for my taste, but pretty damn good. Then came the petite tart... mmmmm them French-Americans sure know their sweets. Considering there is another gift card to use, next time I might just stick to dessert. Au revoir! read more

I love coming here early on the weekends with my daughter. I get breakfast and coffee, she gets strawberries and romanoff sauced (teehee). She LOVES their romanoff sauce. I love it too but there's usually never any left for me. This is one of my regular breakfast spots. They have a great outdoor seating area. For this time of year, they have a fireplace inside so it's really cozy. Service is always wonderful. I don't think I've ever had an issue go unnoticed or ignored. Its a great restaurant for a small group of friends. Or a dinner for two. Sunset gets so busy on the weekends that i do not recommend bring your children, its gets loud, and crowded very fast. However, during the week its not so hectic and a great place to chill. They give out 3 different types of bread, wheat, sourdough, and 7 grain, with butter and 3 different types of jelly's. I have to say the best things here are the sandwiches, which are made only when ordered. Definitely try out either the "hot" sandwiches or any of the pasta dishes. They also sell wine, and beer, with a small bakery which includes deserts and specialty coffees. However if you are not careful and buy salad, soup, drinks, and desert it can get pricey so don't over indulge just yet! read more

I love La Madeleine for their Tomato Basil Soup and fresh baked bread; so, when I saw this location "coming soon" just down the street from where I live I found myself counting down the days to the grand opening day. On opening day I indulged in a large bowl of Tomato Basil Soup with all the free bread I could eat to dunk in it. I surely consumed more calories in 1 meal than I needed for a full day. I must mention this is not a weight watcher friendly restaurant - they use lots of cream and butter.... I recently took some friends here for brunch. We all savored every bite of our meal and tasted everything ordered to prove yummy worthiness. I ordered the Egg Crepe Champignon (scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese, mushrooms in a herb crepe with mushroom sauce) and I sampled the Crepe Romanoff (crepes w/ strawberries and brandy creme sauce) and Quiche Florentine - all 4 stars. Did I mention all the free fresh baked bread you can eat even if you just pay for coffee!!! And the free bread comes with ramekins of butter and 2 or more different jams!! read more

Ordered the crepes soufle, turned out good, nice and soft with strawberries on the side. I like the sauce. My friend ordered mocha which was a little late in coming so we got another mocha on the house with the manager also offering us free dessert.
