Came in today and Teresa was very nice and polite and helpful. She was able to assist me and answer all my questions. I wanted to try something different maybe one of the cake slices and she was able to make some great recommendations. Parking is very ample and easy to get in and out of there is a parking lot located in the back of the building and there's street parking as well. I came in on a Sunday so I dodged the street parking fee. Everything inside was very clean very neat and very welcoming. Will probably come back

Went on a Sunday walk on Figueroa for a little thrifting and came across this cute bakery/ coffee shop. Being from Texas this place reminded me of home. Very nice and clean place to study or just to hangout. I grabbed a tray and started grabbing my bread to purchase. Little concha are my favorite. The girl behind the counter was so kind. She was all alone and was so fast with our drinks. If you ever in Highland Park stop by and give this place a try. I will definitely be back.

Figueroa st in HP offers multiple options for coffee to fit a diversity of people. That said, Monarca can be a hit for some. What I appreciate about the brand is that I can work there if I'm looking for a quiet space to be, and of course, the coffee is reliable. The baked goods are pricier than a panaderia (bakery), but a cookie (or two) can suffice. The staff is friendly, there's free parking in the back and there's WiFi too. Favorite flavors: Mexican mocha, and cafe de olla.

    It's alright

I was so happy to try the Cafe de olla the cold one but I had a super tasty one in the valley from a diff company that tasted better I got a dulce de leche cake it was also ok I'm ehhh about this place

They have authentic Mexican flavored drinks and pastries. The iced horchata de olla has a light flavor so it's not too sweet. They also have refresher drinks if you're not craving coffee.

I absolutely love this bakery. The Oaxaca coffee and Mex sweet bread is amazing. Always fresh and delicious. Great customer service as well.

Perfect way to start my morning with a fresh cup of cafe de la holla! First time here in a few years. Glad to see this place remains consistent with their food & service. Great location for a quick bite. Menu limited but excellent options.

I placed an online order, and they were very efficient. They even called to let me know that one of my drinks couldn't be customized and offered me an alternative, which I really appreciated. I placed my order about 10 minutes before arriving, and everything was ready when I got there. They also made sure to label the drinks clearly. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try their pastries, but they looked delicious. I'll definitely be coming back to give them a try!

Tested out this location, cashier was polite and service was pretty quick.

3 stars for overall. 5 stars the staff, pan is more expensive but the staff so good it makes up for the overprices. Thank you staff for making everything feel and taste better.

Came here on a hot day to grab a drink after seeing a poster for a new Summer Matchata drink. Horchata + Matcha and made with oat milk. Sign me up! Prices are decent and you can get fresh looking pastries like conchas and croissants for 2 dollars or under. They also have cookie and bulk packs for parties. They are all easy to grab and the place is very clean. Service is quick and overall friendly. I asked if my drink could be less sweet so she said yes, less condensed milk. I think less sweet is the perfect sweetness..maybe a bit too sweet still. The drink is very refreshing. Give it a try! Parking is street or there are metered lots.

Seen this bakery driving by and decided to stop and try some treats. The croissants were delicious, buttery, and flaky. The ham and Cheese jalapeno croissant wasn't my favorite, but it was different from other bakeries (just a lil soft and soggy, not flaky). The chocolate croissant was good too! Definitely filled with chocolate and yummy. The best overall was the dulce de leche croissant. I haven't seen this at other bakeries and it definitely was amazing. Would buy a dozen next time I visit! Thank you for the friendly service and great food!

We parked on the streets a few blocks away and walked towards this cafe. The exterior was green with a very nice sign. When walking inside, you'll notice all the patrons working on the computers or hanging out with a friend. Towards the left side, you'll see the merchandise and the register where you'll order your coffee and food. The coffee bar was alongside the left side of the perimeter. I can't describe it enough - very studio Ghibli, speakeasy, jazzy, and coffee enthusiast themed. The barista greeted us with a smile and was gentle about it. We ordered their black sesame cortado and their signature cortado. We also ordered their breakfast sandwich with sausage. Their cortado was very strong, but had a great sweetness to it. It was decorated with orange citrus and the other one had black sesame seeds sprinkled across the top. It was quite delicious. Their breakfast sandwich was chef's kiss - it reminded me of a good sandwich my mom made me as a kid. It had a runny yolk, toasted bread, some melted cheese, and tomatoes in it. This place gave me such warm emotions inside and just made it feel like home. I understood why every table and seat had a person in it. They had a pretty good selection of coffee, matcha drinks and delicious looking pastries. I ordered a Matcha coconut refresher and an Espresso Loop to try since they both looked incredible and I couldn't make up my mind. I went up to grab my drinks when my name was called, this was when my disappointment started to sink in. I saw what looked like my drinks in to go cups and asked if they were my order, since I did not order anything to go. The server said yes and when I asked why and whether they could be for here, she responded without making eye contact as she walked away saying they could throw it in a glass but it'll be all mixed up. Then left me there with no resolution. I didn't want to make a fuss to I took the drinks, but after paying almost $20 for 2 drinks I expected a bit better service. It's too bad you have to tip prior to actually evaluating the service. The loop espresso itself was pretty good, the fresh citrus zest complemented the espresso well. I would love to come back to try their other drinks but guess you have to be proactive and say you want your order for here. Don't expect the pink hair server to ask or care about what you want. Also even though the space is very cool and well decorated, it does get really loud when the crowd picks up.

I saw Rock Coffee was under new management and hosting a weekly game night on Wednesdays. They have made some major improvements. The large work space had been upgraded with plenty of tables, comfortable seating, and good natural light. The coffee quality had markedly improved. Kumquat lives off of York Blvd - a street with many families, creatives, and small businesses live. The environment is always wholesome. Their espresso is so balanced and sits perfectly center on your palette. Their matcha and hojicha is rich and velvety and seemingly a higher grade product. *** Cash not accepted ***…read more It has been a few years since my original visit and it looks like Kumquat Coffee is now known as the coffee shop to get matcha and hojicha lattes. Here are some of the key highlights: * In addition to the 2nd location in Downtown LA and a sister coffee shop Loquat Coffee in Cypress Park, the same owners also opened Fondry Bakery in 2024, a coffee roastery called Quat in Glassell Park in October 2025, and a 2nd Loquat location in Silver Lake in December 2025. * Still no private parking lot and the two public parking lots are still your best bet (5033 Lincoln Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90042 & 1311N N Ave 51, Los Angeles, CA 90042). Otherwise street parking is available. * Still no indoor seating with only few small outdoor chairs and a tiny table. * Our party had the Hojicha Latte (half-sweet $6.50) and Matcha Latte ($6.75). Personally, I strongly discourage anyone from getting the half-sweet option as it made the drink taste a bit watery. The Matcha Latte had full sweetness and it tasted about right, but it was still not as good as some other matcha lattes out there. * No public restroom [Conclusion]: A nice coffee shop to stop by while visiting the boutique shops on York Blvd. Decent matcha drinks, but I still prefer matcha drinks from various cafes in Koreatown if I want something on the next level.
