I've loved this place for as long as I can remember. You can tell the food has been more popular than the market too because every time I go in, there is less and less market shelves and more and more tables for the "restaurant". Every thing I've eaten here is phenomenal, but I need to give a special shout out to their California burrito. It's so good, that this is the ONLY place I will get one now. Its about $9 for a burrito the size of a newborn infant. They cook carne, fresh fried fries, and cheese on the flattop before loading it into a huge flour tortilla and bringing it over to the salsa and etc. bar for you to tell them how you want it. It's so big I usually split it with someone. I'm also a huge fan of their street tacos, and on taco tuesday they are only $1.19 a piece, so you can get a lot of tacos haha. They warm the tortillas on the flattop to order and fill with your preferred meat before handing them over so you can dress them how you'd like at the salsa bar. This place has the freshest most great tasting and yummy food I've had since moving here over 35 years ago. I'm not that big on this type food but my son talked me into getting food from here. I'm so glad I tried it. I highly recommend the King Burrito. It is large enough for two people but you're going to have to stop yourself from eating it all. It's that good. I've never had such a great burrito. I understand they have a bakery on the premises as well. I plan to check it out next time. They have good bread, everything else is decent but not the best. Prices seem higher then other near by. Although I can't really tell if they have high prices or they just rip you off because a lot of items don't have prices and the receipts just have the total charged. I have asked several times about the prices on the freshly baked bread/ pastries and they just say "it varies" they don't even give me a price frame. Some of their prices can be a little expensive. I've tried many things on their menu and the food is rather bland. Very little flavor. Seriously other Yelper's that stated this are correct. I've had their posole soup and there is very little flavor to it. Big chunks of meat, but the taste is just not there. They give you a decent amount of meat for your street tacos and all the onions/cilantro you want (when stocked), but again...it's missing flavor. Very rude employees. The lady in front of me at the register was Hispanic and the customer behind me was of Hispanic decent. The customer at the register was buying Pan Dulce. The cashier used a full sheet cake box to put her pan in, she layer them in the box all standing up to prevent them from breaking. Only filling half of her box with her purchase. Next is my turn , but the cashier took the person standing behind me . When there is only me left in line she decided to ring me out, now all my bread is being shoved into a small brown bag, smashing it. The customer service is terrible. The employees are not kind or courteous. The employees act like helping customers is a chore. We ordered OAXACA CHEESE while the employee was cutting RAW chicken. She grabbed the cheese with the same gloves she was cutting the RAW chicken with. I couldn't believe her complete disregard for basic food handling safety. Hello all reviewers, past and present. I never complain about food but what makes me to this time is the experience was not enjoyable at all to start with the service at this place. Customer service is the first priority in any business. We live fairly close and we were in the mood for some menudo. There are several Mexican fast food places including 2 Mexican super markets chains near us. We were undecided where to go so we went to yelp.com and asked Siri as well. They both guided us to this spot which had moderately good reviews so we decided to try it for our first time. The food is good but not for its prices, we spent on 3 people $42.00. That's 2 menudos, a California burrito, and one pound of carnitas. That's about $10 an item way expensive for each. We asked for salsa to go and apparently that's an extra charge but none the less when we asked the clerk for salsa she says, "we don't give salsa" but she is standing right in front of the salsa bar. We weren't too pleased with that answer so we paid and left. Let me add this. What Mexican restaurants don't give salsa with their dishes??? What's Mexican food without salsa??? I know it's not the end of the world but if your expected to pay as much as we did I mean come on now. Especially when this place is right next to a gas station I'd rather spend the extra on gas and travel farther to a better Mexican restaurant, where your welcomed and seem like at home, if you know what I mean. We came home to sit and eat at our dining tablet thinking mmmm... Can't wait to satisfy my taste buds and enjoy this menudo, after everything was Taken out of the bags there were no utensils or napkins included, another disappointment when something so easy like that can be be done. What i found was actually a grocery store, chock full of produce and pan dulce, connected to a tortilleria, along with a rocking taqueria on the side. And yes, I still ordered a california burrito instead of tacos. It was glorious. And unique- they put in freshly sauteed bell peppers. The meat was fresh and high quality (I can tell crap carne asada from great carne asada). The general environment of the place is great. Families order huge bowlfuls of carne asada at a time and they are all eating tacos outside in fold out tables. On a hot day in the future, I want to come here with a nice cerveca, hope that my chinese-ness can pass for mexican and just chill out there munching on fresh carne asada tacos. As for the experience with the food going down, it was about 3 stars. Not stellar, but not that bad, either. My son and I, however, ended up with digestive issues that evening. The GOOD: My burrito was HUGE. Massive. The sort of portion size you expect to get at any Mexican place in Southern California. The BAD: The rice was like eating tiny little rocks. It was hard. Not quite crunchy but hard. The habanero salsa ranked MAYBE at a 4 out of a 10 on the spicy scale.
