My friend and I came here for lunch and waited about 15min to get seated. The food came out quick which was nice because I was starving! We shared the hot skillet and the pork lemon grass banh mi. Omg delicious. The bread was thin and crispy, and the pork had so much flavor. The meat from the skillet was super tender and flavorful as well. They also gave us a free tea. This is my first time visiting in person but I've had their broken rice to go before. This place is known for its fancy packaging at an affordable price. We got ube coffee and sizzling beefsteak. The portion is HUGE and it was very flavorful! The price is so good for the dish (about $13?) and ube coffee which is $3.45. The pork in the grilled pork banh mi was really tender and juicy but its perfect smokiness and grilled flavor were what stood out the most. We arrived a little before noon on a Monday. We got lucky and found a parking spot, the lot is very small. We walked in and were seated immediately. We aren't very well versed with Vietnamese food and came here upon recommendation from the hair salon across the street. We didn't know what to order so we asked the server and he wasn't very helpful. He said to get one from the top of the menu and one from the bottom. So we did! We didn't know what we were ordering but it was delicious. Now, hours late , I realize I should've ordered a banh mi, at the time I thought the price was a typo, (4.95!) or I didn't understand the menu because it's mostly in Vietnamese and not much in the way of descriptions. We had a grilled pork chop with broken rice, 2 eggs, vermicelli noodles and a shrimp/pork thing wrapped in tofu. Very substantial and filling for 11.95! I ordered the Bo Ne for 12.95 and it was a delicious steak and eggs with the most tender cuts of beef ever! The sauce was slightly sweet and the eggs cooked to perfection as the residual heat from the pan cooked them. I try not to eat bread but I ended up having to eat half of the baguette they brought with the meal. It has to be done to soak up the sauce and eggs. One of our meals came with a clear brith soup with lotus root. We don't know whose it was. It was tasty but slightly bitter. The meals also come with complimentary iced tea and food came out quickly. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and loved the surprise factor of not knowing what we were going to get. The food was great and the prices are unbelievable. I would definitely come back and try the $5 banh mi! They have a bumping takeout crowd. So many people were taking food to go. The only downside is that it isn't as cleanly as it could be. Besides the odd hours, this new place definitely has potential. We rushed there 15 minutes before closing and they were happy to take us in. I noticed the menu looked different than the one I searched on Yelp so I realized this is the work in progress. Perhaps because it was near closing time the only rice item available was number 2 (cơm tấm sườn,bì, tàu hũ ky). I wanted to try their banh mi too but was informed they were not available either. Well the presentation (for cơm tấm) was better than most places I've been to. The food impressions: Unlike a lot of place which give you regular rice (sometimes even a little mushy), Lạc Việt gave me cơm tấm (broken rice) though it was a little on the dry side. The bi was just pork skin with no trace of meat but that didn't really bother me much. The pork ribs had nice lemongrass flavor but was under seasoned so they tasted a bit bland. Tàu hũ ky was decent but not my favorite because it was oily. I liked their nước mắm since it's not too sweet like some other place. Pickle was rau tiến vua : different but I was not crazy about it. I felt like we had a decent home made meal than cơm tấm. Not a bad thing but I would definitely come back to try other items when they're available. Hopefully I can give them higher rating later. Came here on a Sunday after my dad recommended it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The wait was about 20-25 minutes, which is a bit longer than usual, but they made it super comfortable with iced water, iced tea, and shade while waiting--such a thoughtful touch. The pretty girl with glasses who greet us was super calm, friendly, and polite. She seemed like a manager or someone in charge, the way she coordinated the team so smoothly. The side dishes came out first and were a great surprise - everything tasted fresh, especially the bean sprouts. My dad loved it (and said it would be perfect with a beer!). When the main dishes came out, we were honestly a little surprised by everything on the table - we even joked, "Did we order all this?" The pretty girl with glasses noticed our confusion and came over to help organize the dishes and explain what went with what. That was a really nice touch and made the experience even better. The flavors leaned slightly sweet for my preference, but overall everything was delicious and well-balanced. The egg meatloaf was a standout for me. Sorry but what a major disappointment! The packaging does not make up for the lackluster com tam. The suon(pork chops) were extremely thin and did not have a good marinade like most com tam places make it. The bi(shredded pork) was possibly one of the worst I've had. The pieces of pork were huge, it should be sliced thin and should have the roasted rice powder flavor, however the one from here did not. The pickled vegetables tasted super old and nonot crunchy. Also, it came with no cucumbers or lettuce. I ordered 9 to go orders of the com tam suon cha bi. It was packed terribly. The fish sauce and juices from the pickled vegetables spilled everywhere. I had to drive back to San Diego with a car smelling like fish sauce because of their poor packing skills. Complete waste of money! I'm extremely disappointed. read more

Lac Viet Concepts has gone way downhill. Ever since they changed their menu concept, it's been nothing but disappointment. They removed the com tam (which was the only reason I kept coming back) and replaced it with something that just doesn't work. They advertise being open until 10PM, but when I showed up around 8:30, they were already halfway shut down -- and somehow out of food. How does a restaurant run out of food that early? It took them over 30 minutes to bring out my food, and when it finally arrived, it was a mess. The thit heo quay was hard as a rock -- no exaggeration, I almost chipped a tooth. The bo ne with shrimp came with... no shrimp. Not only were the dishes missing key ingredients, they didn't even provide everything listed on the menu. No utensils at the table, no Knorr seasoning sauce, and when I asked about it, the staff seemed confused or just uninterested. The whole experience was frustrating and not worth the time or money. They need to bring back the original com tam concept ASAP because this new direction is not it. Until then, I won't be back. read more

What a steal, the com tam was pretty good especially for the price. We got 3 items, side soup, and a free ice tea for $12 each before tax & tip. The pork chop was perfectly cooked both char and lemongrass flavor, the pieces were on the thin side. The cha (pork cake) was decent/standard. The fried shrimp cake was also decent (I think this item is better over at Com Tam Thanh and Com Thanh Thien Hao). The side soup was good, cabbages were nice and soft, salted just fine. The pickled veggies were good/decent but I was so full, I couldn't finish it. My only complaint is the broken rice was a little mushy/wet in the middle. I was a little confused because our orders came with an egg on top but I don't recall ordering it or seeing that it comes with the dish on the menu. The free ice tea was a nice touch (a little watered down but still good). The service was fine, the restaurant was pretty busy for lunch on a Saturday (long-ish wait for take out and dine in). Overall, it's pretty good value & the foods acceptable/good/authentic. I'd come back and recommend. read more

This review is for their Bo Ne dine in. Just be aware!!! It is an extra dollar to dine here versus to go. However, this place is worth the hype. First, the Bo Ne didn't really look like the advertised picture on Yelp or the menu today, but that is fine by me. I guess they ran out of sausages and pate, so they compensated with 3 tiger shrimps, and an extra egg. I was overall really happy with the sizzling iron cast containing the delicious garlicky Bo ne in front of me bc I was actually between getting their rice shrimp or the Bo ne. Anyways, this all works out. My meal came with a baguette and free iced green tea pitcher. I also really like how the servers weren't pushy for the bill nor the tips. And the servers didn't actually ask me ever 5 min if I am ok. So I felt like I could finally eat in peace and quiet :) I may come here for their special promotions for Heo quay/ rice plate if it is still around next time. Great place for com tam (broken rice) as well as banh mi chao/bo ne. We got both dishes and it was all wonderful. We were seated soon after we arrived as it wasn't tooo busy. Something I really appreciated is that they give you free ice tea! They were kind enough to give it to us while we were waiting for our table. Three separate plates with the same ridiculously small portions. I don't expect first class service in Westminster but this was awful. The in-laws got us a take-home broken rice meal, the one with the egg loaf. The grilled pork rib was nice, and so was the egg. Because of the kit-like packaging the food did travel well. Though I enjoyed it, and the leftovers on the second day, I didn't think I had much of an impression to write a review. And then the in-laws got us the grilled pork banh mis and I was sold. That charbroiled flavor tasted so authentic. Not only were the sandwiches well prepared, but we ate them hours later and they still managed to taste fresh. The overall value of the items are insane. To get these portions at a time when most items and goods are inflated - it was such a pleasure eating quality food that did not cost much. We have yet to set foot in this establishment, but to know Lac Viet strictly as a takeout spot right now, we're looking forward to our first visit. This place is fairly new, is my understanding. Really hope they aren't taking a huge loss with their current price point. If the aim is to cultivate a loyal customer base, consider us in the club. read more

First of all, wow the price is VERY reasonable. We ordered 3 orders togo of the com tam suon bi cha and one suon bi tau Hu ky. Togo box looks like a selling point! Packaging is fancy. Each item is packaged individually, and the entire thing is in a box. Not sure if they're wasting plastic by doing this... Best things in the box: FISH SAUCE, MEAT, & RICE. Fish sauce reminds me of Vietnam. It's seasoned pretty well. The rice consistency was perfect and portion was more than enough. The meat was cooked to perfection and overcooked. Everything else was super bland. Service was fast for banh mi and coffee, but it was so slow for the com tam. We waited 45 mins. Staff acknowledged me and tried to expedite my order. They gave out complimentary tea for the guest waiting. Store is clean and staff is friendly. Overall, it's tight due to 3 separate crowds: line to order and pay, line to dine in, and line to pick up food. They need a better system for Togo orders. I'll be back to dine in store next time. As everyone else has commented, this food venue has nice packaging for their takeout. Vibrant colors and everything that needs to be separated, is thoughtfully put together. The pressed banh mi sandwich from Lac Viet, panini style (ép sandwich ) tasted good. In the seasoning, it was not overpowering nor did it contain too much/excessive sauce. Cơm tấm broken rice plate was also not bad. Prices are also very affordable right now since they're still somewhat new. Overall, it was a good positive experience from trying this place. Been here 5-6 times now for takeout .. decent food at fair prices. However, already annoyed that the Brookhurst location basically ran out of food, so we came here today. First off, I am fluent in Vietnamese and English and I told the kid at the register that I wanted 4 Banh Mi with the veggies on the side. He asked twice and yet he failed to put the order in as so. I also ordered 2 orders of Com Tam. And wanted strawberry soda but apparently they were out. Waited for 20 or so minutes, had the hiccup of Banh Mi veggies not on the side. Then was told my Com Tam was coming. Sat down some more, before I had to go back up and ask who seemed to be a manager about the Com Tam orders .. No apology, no explanation .. looked lost but finally came back out with my two orders of Com Tam. Look guys, it's disappointing with the lack of customer service. A sorry, a thank you and just putting the order in the first time really goes a long way. If there's a wait, mention it -- DECENT food (at best) will get old REAL fast with trash customer service. Food is pretty good. It's not bad for the price. Priced very competitively, you get a lot for the money. Ambience is also good, love the music selection. Service however. They can use some help. There is a main girl at the register, she is pretty rude, not very inviting, she messed up our order, and her response was, "our menu changed" . If this was the case, you should have said that item wasn't available when we ordered in the first place. She needs to be trained better. That really killed the vibe. Lac Viet is okay food for an okay price. The food, specifically the ribs, is good. 4 ribs chunks per order though. The portion of shrimp wrapped in bean curd is measly compared to neighboring com tam places. Bi, rice, and cha are all middle range. There are better com tam places on the same block. It's a smaller restaurant, but it doesn't feel cramped. I do see lines and queue times being long due to the size of the restaurant, and the crowds of folks curious to try a new place. The packaging and place settings looks gorgeous, but I think for the overall customer experience, more staff training is necessary and less emphasis on pretty marketing. Staff was very short with customers asking for things like missing waters at the table. It's not a restaurant where you feel comfortable enough to stay a while to enjoy, which is a bummer since they spent so much time on thoughtful utensil packs with the wet wipes and gloves. Note: I also didn't get offered the Jasmine tea that other reviewers mentioned? Not sure I'll come back until changes are made to staffing and menu re: portions/product quality. read more
