It was a little salty for me but went well with the side of vegetables we got with it. The macaroni salad was also delicious and had the Hawaiian taste to it that is not found in the mainland. We stopped by to get a quick bite before flying home and was pleasantly surprised. We shared a 3 piece dark fried chicken with 3 sides of Mac salad, cole slaw and corn. The pieces of chicken were decent size. The batter was a little thicker than I like but was still good. And the chicken was hot and crispy. The sides were decent too. When you set your expectations for airport food low you won't be disappointed. You might even be surprised by decent edible food served in a styrofoam container. Lahaina Chicken Company did their name proud. Ordering 2 box combo dinners to go before a night flight out of Daniel K. Inouye. Each box had a choice of 2 meats and 3 sides. Each box also weighed about a pound and a half, so the portions are generous enough for 2 people. Protein choices are roast chicken, fried chicken, roast pork or prime rib. They lived up to their name because both the roast and fried chicken were moist and flavorful. On the other hand, we now know why they weren't also named the Beef and Pork Company because those were dry and lacked flavor. In their favor, the side dishes of mashed potatoes, mac salad, pasta salad, mixed veggies and fried rice were quite good. It's like the staff are all retired lunch ladies returning to the workforce, and they're even more pissed off now. Never been there before? You should still know how many of what type of side to choose. Ordering something that says -right there- that it comes with two sides? Pick three when the lady commands it. Take too long to decide? Glares of disgust. (Heck, I am pretty sure I was getting scowls still left over from an indecisive dude last Friday.) Then at the meat station, they demand you choose white or dark meat. You choose dark meat. They are out of dark meat. How dare you ask for dark meat!? They just shove the white meat into the box. No discussion allowed. Ask for butter? "We don't do butter." The ambiance? Think fluorescent lighting. I recommend avoiding this culinary journey unless you have a masochistic streak or really, really miss your high school cafeteria. While waiting for my flight at Honolulu Airport, I indulged in a plate of roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and green beans. It was absolutely delicious! In fact, it was so good that I decided to take two whole chickens with mashed potatoes and gravy to enjoy with my family in Hilo later that evening for dinner. Despite the less-than-ideal airport ambiance, there's plenty of seating available if you prefer to sit and eat at a table. I'll definitely be returning. Food workers had an ongoing strike and thus this place was closed. Fast forward to the last day of my trip (departure time=sadness). Luckily the strike was over and this place was open once again. Lahaina Chicken had two chicken options; one fried and the other roasted. White meat was slightly higher in price versus dark meat. They also offered roast pork, prime rib and mushroom chicken. Options for combos include combos and double combos with choice of three sides. The sides to choose from are cole slaw, tossed greens, fried rice, mashed potatoes, golden corn, riviera mix and macaroni salad. I chose to get the Roast Chicken half chicken combo with fried rice, cole slaw and macaroni salad. This was $17.49. At first I thought this was pricey until I saw how much they gave. Wow! You definitely get your moneys worth here. The chicken was meant to be split with my mom but we got about 4 meals out of it. The Roast Chicken was tender and juicy. Even with leftovers it didn't dry up. It was great! For the sides; I would say the fried rice was my favorite followed by the macaroni salad. Overall I'm glad I got to try this place out. The line was understandably long, but it moved quickly. I ended up getting the two protein combo plate, which came with 3 sides and cost roughly $18, but I got prime rib and roasted chicken as my proteins. Still, it was probably the better wholesome choice when it came to airport dining options. Not a fan of the prices, but it was healthy enough versus fast food. For the most part though, it was an experience that you can have as much of when you're flying in and out of Honolulu. The service here is touch and go. You'd have to speak loudly enough to where they can understand your order. Too bad they didn't have fried chicken that night, but probably better for my health that they didn't lol. The overall experience here at Lahaina Chicken Company was good and decent, while being overpriced as it is. This place is essentially fast food, but at least it's not burgers and fries type of thing. More healthy I would say and something you would enjoy more while traveling instead of burgers and fries, but that's just me. Getting here requires you to be either flying out of Honolulu or arriving to Honolulu from destinations elsewhere, as it is only accessible past TSA security. Getting to the airport, however, you can find parking around the airport for a fee. If you're like me, public bus routes 19 and 20 makes stops on the departures level. Of course, there's always uber and lyft that will make pick ups and drop offs at the airport too. Lahaina Chicken Company can be as fancy as you want it to be, especially with the prime rib. Best thing to do is to check out the prices and see if it fits your wallet and your tastebuds. Only thing about the prime rib is that it's already cooked and ready to serve. No made to order here. They just slice it from the main stack and hack it up into bite sized pieces to put it on your plate. Exiting the Honolulu airport I caught a glimpse of huge slabs o'beef glistening on a cutting board at Lahaina Chicken Co. so I knew I had to try out this impressive looking airport food when we came back here for our departure flight! The menu options are limited to prime rib, fried or roasted chicken and roast pork. There's also a vegetarian option and I liked how there was a good variety of veggie options. You can have your meal as a single meat or as a two meat combo. I deliberated between the roast chicken/prime rib combo ($16.99) and the single prime rib meal and ultimately went with the chicken/prime rib combo. I received a large quarter piece of chicken and a smaller thinnish slice of prime rib which was then chopped into pieces. The meals come with 3 sides. I had a veggie trio of corn, riviera mix (Baby carrot+ 2 types of beans) and peas+carrots. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the prime rib was pretty tasty as well. I would probably opt to do the single prime rib meal next time though, because you will get a mammoth sized hunk o'beef compared to the smallish slice in the combo. The single prime rib meal is also $1 less ($15.99) which makes it seem like the better deal. The veggies were decent, I think most of them were from a frozen bag but I'm glad there are multiple vegetable options rather than your standard potato or starch as a side. If there was one food I could eat for the rest of my life, it would be mac n cheese, and I knew Lahaina had it, so you could imagine my extreme disappointment when this location didn't. It looked like I had two options - the carved meat side or the pasta/pizza side. Given that pasta was closer to mac n cheese in this moment, I opted for the latter. The second bad sign was the extremely unhappy woman working here. I have a pretty positive demeanor when it comes to customer service interactions, but no amount of positivity was bringing her up from that grumpy mood, so I made my order, and asked if I could get a bottled water instead of a cup, even at some extra cost. Apparently this was impossible (perhaps some airport scheme at work here), so I paid for my exceptionally overpriced meal and sat at one of the (not particularly clean) tables to scarf it down before my flight. The third bad sign: the salad tasted exactly like what you get from the salad bar in elementary school. It was so plain, it left a bad taste in my mouth. The only real merit to the lasagna was that it was heavy and filling, but definitely not an outstanding dish. Now for the positive - the roll I got with it definitely met my bread expectations: warm, buttery, garlicky, and soft.
