Stopped in here as one of the few restaurant options that was open before I hopped a flight for a work trip. I've had Lahaina Chicken Company before at the Ala Moana food court, and I know I liked that dish, so I approached this opportunity with high expectations. The first bad sign was the fact that this location didn't have mac n cheese. If there was one food I could eat for the rest of my life, it would be mac n cheese, and I knew Lahaina had it, so you could imagine my extreme disappointment when this location didn't. It looked like I had two options - the carved meat side or the pasta/pizza side. Given that pasta was closer to mac n cheese in this moment, I opted for the latter. The second bad sign was the extremely unhappy woman working here. I have a pretty positive demeanor when it comes to customer service interactions, but no amount of positivity was bringing her up from that grumpy mood, so I made my order, and asked if I could get a bottled water instead of a cup, even at some extra cost. Apparently this was impossible (perhaps some airport scheme at work here), so I paid for my exceptionally overpriced meal and sat at one of the (not particularly clean) tables to scarf it down before my flight. The third bad sign: the salad tasted exactly like what you get from the salad bar in elementary school. It was so plain, it left a bad taste in my mouth. The only real merit to the lasagna was that it was heavy and filling, but definitely not an outstanding dish. Now for the positive - the roll I got with it definitely met my bread expectations: warm, buttery, garlicky, and soft. The Honolulu airport surprisingly doesn't have a ton of food choices. I usually try to find the best salad option I can and even those are always way overpriced and really poor quality. Lahaina Chicken Company is probably one of the best choices I've found at any airport. You can make it somewhat healthy by ordering the chicken with a side of brown rice and mixed veggies. The food was delicious. The service was fast. The ambiance was fine; especially, since we were eating at the Honolulu airport.

For quick service airport food, this exceeded expectations. Stumbled onto this place because it was right outside our gate. Ordered a prime rib meal and a quarter roasted chicken meal. Both came with 3 sides, both had large portions. (Quarter chicken looked like half a chicken, prime rib was weighed but seems they give a bit extra). The taste was serviceable, green beans weren't limp, corn wasn't soggy, mashed might be instant but was not lumpy. The prime rib was surprising TENDER and went well with the saucy gravy on the mashed. Both the proteins had good flavor. The food instantly reminded me of a "homestyled" American quick service serving rotisserie's chickens and the fixings.. however Lahaina Chicken Co taste MUCH better in freshness and flavor. Two meals came out to $35, which isn't terrible for airport prices. (HNL's Burger King charges about the same price per meal). Hmm.....airport food... What to get, and is it edible;) Luckily, I pulled up the yelp app and it guided me to Lahaina chicken company. Understandably, the reviews might be a tad harsh due to food being pre made, lacking quality or overpriced. I needed something in my stomach. I was planning on starving, and eating after I left the airport. I tend to have discomfort and nerves while I fly. Well, I strolled into the chicken spot and it wasn't busy at all. They offered an abundance of food with three sides, but there was no way I was going to sit comfortably on a long flight full. I chose the chicken salad. The lady took a whole chicken and halved it. With half of it on the board, she chopped it heavily, and placed it upon the salad you see in the supermarket prepackaged. I was quite pleased with how generous she was with the chicken. Some places tend to be stingy when it comes to a salad. I paid and brought it to a booth to eat. I had drizzled some Tabasco sauce to give it a kick. I have to say, I was relatively surprised. The chicken had some parts that were dry, but there were other sections where it was moist and tender. I would come back here as the food court does not really offer much healthy options. Yelp Challenge 365 # 80/365 I've come to the rude realization that I've been spending way too much time at airports. I try not to comment on "airport" food as I accept and realize these restaurants are there as an accommodation to the travellers. That said, they "try" to deliver as good a meal as one "fast food" restaurant can possibly deliver. So, I am between flights, landed at HNL from PDX. After a grueling flight, I still have one more interisland segment to go with 2 hours to spare. I'm hungry and I am not in the mood for a Burger King Meal.... I stop at Lahaina Chicken. WHAT????? no chicken?????? wth???? I need to wait as it is still being roasted or broasted or whatever they do to cook this chicken... I order a combo rib eye and roast pork plate., no mash, no gravy but I will have corn, mac salad and cole slaw as my sides. The combos offer you 3 sides. May I have the part that is most rare on the ribeye I ask. Answer was " there is no rare, no medium rare, we have ONLY medium and well done. That's how we do it here!" As to the pork, "No you can't pick which part you want. I will cut it, weigh it, you get 4 oz of each on the combo and then, I put it in your plate. You CAN"T choose! So there! I cant choose. well done rib eye and the end cut of the roast pork. $14 dollars (including tax) later, I am TRYING to eat this meal.... I eat it (begrudingly) mainly because I was hungry. Moral to the story? Go to grab a candy bar or something to curb your appetite and grab a paper or book to keep yourself busy while waiting for your flight. So I happened to be at the airport on a Friday and decided to buy lunch. I wanted a hearty meal so I chose Lahaina Chicken. This location is located by the Central Concourse. There is another Lahaina Chicken in the Interisland terminal. However, only this location also offers pizza options. They have salads or a vegetarian plate but most people come to get a plate lunch style meal where you get to choose three sides and a protein. You can also get a combo and choose two proteins. I chose a prime rib which was 6 oz and they did cut it up for me. They were out of a lot of sides (it was 1pm) so I got mashed potatoes and riviera veggies 2x. The sides were good. The prime rib was tough and overcooked. The plate was $14. I was a bit disappointed since what I got didn't compare to some of the photos I saw on Yelp. I'm not sure if it's just this location or if the other location is the same. When I was walking to my terminal, I saw that there was a line out the door for this place and I had to check it out. Surprisingly, the prices were too bad and the food looked decent. I'm always baffled by the way people forgive most of the subpar food establishments at Honolulu International Airport. Imagine the looks of jealousy as I open my styrofoam box of goodness up when we hit 10,000 feet and the delicious smells start permeating the cabin around me. "Mommy, is that for us?" I have to say this is probably the best option for food at the inter-island terminal. It's this, Burger King, or Chinese food. This is by far the healthiest with the most "real" food. As with anything at the airport, prices are small kine high. However, for the amount of food you get here and it's quality, I have to say I don't walk away thinking I got ripped off. That can't be said about any other place at the airport. I usually stick to the quarter chicken and 3 sides. Sides being mashed potatoes, veggies and corn. Chicken is always consistently good. Plenty of meat, so-so skin (I like mine a little crunchier), and good sized portion. Mashed potatoes are always good, as is accompanying gravy. Corn is canned, but I can't complain. Veggies previously frozen, but again, they are better than the other options next door. When you don't have time to eat before the airport, or you get to the airport with hours to kill, you could do a lot worse than this. If you are traveling interisland on Hawaiian, this is pretty much the best airport food choice you have (the others being Burger King and Chow Mein).
