Beautiful views, friendly hostess. Long wait for food, maybe that explains why the featured Boss burger was so charred and dry. The server never asked how I wanted it done, maybe "burnt to a crisp" is a the default. I actually like my burgers well done but still juicy. This burger was like a can of Mountain Dew Kickstart, contains 5 percent juice. Another problem with this cafe was that several patrons did not wear masks while entering/exiting or paying, or using the restroom and none of the staff (including the hostess!) reminded them that it is THE LAW! This is essentially a diner type place inside a casino. The food is solid. I've had almost every breakfast dish, and for the price they can't be beat. This quaint, cozy coffee shop is situated inside of Topaz Casino. I drove six hours to meet up with the hubby and saved my appetite to eat with him. I ordered the Surf and Turf and he ordered the T-Bone Steak dinner. I refuse to eat a steak that isn't cooked to medium-rare perfection and this 5 OZ did not disappointment. I really should have just ordered a huge steak because it was that scrumptious! My meal came with shrimp, steak, vegetables, bread, and a house salad. The shrimp were perfectly battered and deep fried with no greasy feel or after taste. The vegetables were standard as were the salad and bread. My husband ordered his steak medium well (eye roll) and did enjoy it. The food is a bit pricey but they make up for it by serving inexpensive drinks. I paid $7 for a Cadillac Margarita and his Michelob Ultra was $4. The view of the lake was a nice bonus and that steak....FIRE! read more

I stopped here because I needed WiFi for a zoom meeting. The service was great and the chicken Caesar and my son's fish and chips were fine. My only real complaint was the huge level of passive cigarette smoke from the adjacent casino. Wonderful food with a wonderful view, I've lived out here for 3 years and any time I can stop by Topaz to grab a bite to eat I do. I almost always get the same thing, chicken fried steak and eggs, which comes with toast and some jelly. I grab a cup of coffee and talk with waitress while enjoying some American comfort food. This restaurant was great since we were staying nearby (not really close) but worth the drive since it had the specials you couldn't beat and also because there were very few if any options where were staying. Came back on Christmas and they had nice special Christmas dinners including desert- for less than you'd normally pay anywhere else in the big city(s). It got crowded, but they were efficient in serving people fast and cleaning up for the next round coming in. Breakfast is the best option here, no matter what time you eat it. My daughter ordered the buffalo wrap, but had to send it back because it didn't resemble the photo in the menu- menu shows red hot sauce inside (picture shows sliced in half) hers looked like it just had mayo:(But the waitress brought another back with lots of hot sauce (or buffalo sauce), so it was easily resolved. As a local we eat here frequently. This morning while waiting for a booth we watched two other groups come in and get seated before us in booths. So after being seated we got up and left because we realized our business wasn't really very important to them. Not sure why the restaurant was such a free for all. I heard there might be new management? Ps we miss Lonie and The new hostess was not very friendly either and surely wasn't running the seating of guests. Our suggestion to Tiffany is if your going to make someone wait don't sit there and watch other groups get seated without waiting their turn. Went to the Topaz Lodge coffee shop. My daughter wanted the jalapeño popper appetizer. I figured the price was $10 so maybe they would be good WRONG. A $10 order consisted of 6 Walmart quality frozen things they called jalapeño poppers. Very disappointed. They really need to up there game. read more

Gayle and I were staying in Genoa at her Mom's house for the weekend, when we decided to take a road trip to Topaz Lake and have Lunch at the Lakeview Coffee Shop. Besides the sheer joy of geographic exploration, we both knew that if we moved here, we had to figure out a menu of things to do. We also like cultural offerings, so future trips to Reno and South Lake Tahoe are planned. We're learning to measure our expectations carefully. The Compound that is the Topaz Lodge & Casino is a bit funky, as is the small surrounding lake community. The Lakeview Coffee Shop is the "Diner" as opposed to the Steak restaurant in other part of the building. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and seated, and settled into the relatively sparse dining room to enjoy the lake view and have a nice conversation. We were on the young side of the lunch crowd, and even then the waitress automatically applied a Senior Discount. While appreciative of the price break, we were perhaps a bit perplexed that we "looked the part". As for the food, we both agreed that it was just OK (e.g. 3 Stars). However, luck be a Lady and a most enjoyable time together in this unique and scenic locale deserves a bump up. Maybe we'll even bring Gayle's Mom next time to share the fun and take full economic advantage of our collective maturity. read more

The view of the lake is amazing. The wafting of cigarette smoke from the connected casino...sucks. The service is classic coffee shop..as is the food. Since this is one of the few places to eat in Topaz Lake..if you are hungry and stopping for the night, you are pretty much left with this as a location. Even with that, I was impressed with the variety of food and the reasonable prices they charged. This is not high class eating, but it is solid. They do chicken fried steak well. Salads are standard but crisp and clean. Eggs are super oily. Rolls are the kind you get in the store (the ones that are sold stuck together). Drinks are filled often. We came in groggy and hungry.. We left sleepy but full. If our path takes us this way again, we will be thankful to stop by for a meal here again. read more

This is one of our annual go to spots while we vacation in the Eastern Sierras. Great view, really good food. All you can eat spaghetti, which is pretty darn good. Breakfast is delicious, especially the Topaz Scrambler, biscuits, gravy, sausage, eggs and coffee on the side. It also holds a lot of sentimental value since we've been vacationing up here over 50 years. I remember when the Lodge was built, right next to the long gone Pine Nut Lodge. And I love that Casino cold as I am in permanent hot flash these days. Bonus, coming up the hill to eat means less cooking at the trailer for me! read more

Our server, Katrina, is the best! We eat lunch at the Lodge almost weekly as we live nearby. We usually have Katrina as our server. She quickly noticed that we always order the same things, burgers medium rare, American cheese, fries, One with no onions or pickles, Pepsi. She always remembers exactly what we want! I drive back and forth to Mammoth from the Bay Area regularly. The Topaz Lodge & Casino is the best place for a cheap and delicious dinner! Located just north of the California border (in Nevada), they offer cheap daily specials. The best of all is Monday night prime rib dinner ($8.95) with mashed potatoes and vegetables. YUM! To top it off, the coffee shop's dining room offers an amazing view of the Topaz Lake. They offer free wi-fi access too (most of Highway 395 has no cell service or wi-fi access). The service is hit or (mostly) miss. Most times, the waitress has walked back and forth past our table without any acknowledgement for up to 10 minutes... BUT last night I got served my dinner within 5 minutes of being seated!!! Regardless, it's a great place to break up your drive and get a cheap, hot dinner with a great view. There is reasonably priced gas too, but if you are willing to drive 15 miles north to the 7-11, the gas there is usually up to 20 cents cheaper! read more

Our original intention was to visit the buffet; however, we couldn't find it for one, and for two, the deep-fried pancakes sucked us in. No matter where you sit in this restaurant, you're going to have an amazing view of Topaz Lake. Because it was lunch, I ordered a burger: The Cherry Bomb Burger. It tasted good; somewhere between a low-quality diner burger, and a higher quality burger. I wish there was more sauce on it, but I loved the little cherry peppers that came with it. The potato salad was ok, but nothing mind blowing. The deep-fried pancakes are everything I hoped for. They are cut into strips and smothered in whipped cream and sliced strawberries. They tasted amazing, and are a must if you dine here, no matter what meal you're eating. Service was good, food was good, and the view was good. Check this place out. read more

We stopped in to Topaz lodge for a late breakfast during a weekend getaway. The casino is dark and Smokey. The view is the best part: The waitresses were nice and the service was sufficient however, the food was lacking. My husband and I decided on our regular choice of splitting a burger. We upgraded to the Boss and made it a cherry bomb which is advertised as their speciality. The waitress did not ask us how we wanted the burger cooked. It came out pretty much burnt with little taste and was a wimpy size for 15.50??!?! It comes with no sauce, they bring you plastic bottles condiments and you must put it on your own. The side of fries where slim and tasted like the oil used for frying was old. Overall we would not choose to spend our money and eat here again. read more

Standard coffee shop fare, but the off-the-menu specials offer outstanding value including the all-you-can-eat spaghetti for $3.99 and steak and eggs for $5.99. The best option on Monday evenings is the Prime Rib special starting at $8.95, but arrive early before they run out. On the regular menu, the bowl of chili is a good value under $6 and both the Caesar salad with chicken and the Cobb salads are tasty. If you want better selection try the steak restaurant downstairs, but for value and the view, the coffee shop fits the bill. Ask for a window seat if you'll be there at sunset. If you're over 55 and a member of the casino's free player's club, mention that to the cashier for a 10% discount off of your (non-special) dinner. From January 1 through mid-April the lodge runs a fishing derby with $100 tagged fish stocked in the lake, and biggest fish of the week prizes of $50. Fish are weighted at the gas station. I REALLY wanted to like this place. The view is absolutley amazing. You would be hard pressed to find another restaurant with THAT kind of view around here. However, the service my wife and I received wasn't very good. In fact, it sucked. My wife and I came here a couple weeks ago for breakfast. We heard some good things from people so we decided to take the 45 minute drive out from Yerington to give it a shot. It didn't take very long to ruin the mood. It was a Saturday morning so the place was pretty packed. We went up to the desk to put our names down for a table and this happened: My wife to the hostess: "Hello" Hostess: "How many?" That's it. No smile. No hello back. No welcome. No nothing. In fact, the only two things she said to us were, "How many?" and "It'll be about a 15 minute wait. Well, that "15 minute wait" turned into nearly 40. 37 to be exact. If it weren't for the fact we were both starving and we didn't know of anything else in the area and we were 45 minutes from home, we would've left at the 30 minute mark. For the reasons stated above however, we stuck it out. After finally being seated, our waitress was hands down one of the most unprofessional wait staff I've ever encountered. When we both asked for water, she got an attitude. Came back with the water and annoyingly asked, "ready yet?. I ordered the French Toast and instead of asking, "how would you like your eggs?" and "would you like bacon or sausage?" she asked, "eggs?" & "bacon or sausage"? Just zero personality from this lady and had a very rude tone in her voice. Like we were an inconvenience to her. But she was able to be nice to the table right next to us. Maybe she has an issue with tattoos (I have many). If that's the case, she needs to get over it or whatever else her issue may have been. The food was brought out around 30 minutes after we ordered (not good). However, it was hot and tasted ok. My wife defiantly makes better french toast then this place. After eating and enjoying the one good thing about this place (the view), we asked our drill instructor (or waitress) for the check. She came back with it, plopped it down on the table and left. No thank you. Nothing. As we were paying our check, it was a different hostess than the one we encountered when we arrived. She was very nice and professional with us. The other two need to take lessons from her. The only reason this place received two stars and not one (or zero if it were an option) is because the view is spectacular and the food was decent. The chances of us driving another 45 minutes to eat here are dismal at best. read more

I came here with my parents and was seated right as we walked in. The meals were surprisingly decent here. I honestly liked the breakfast better than dinner. I had ordered the turkey club sandwich with a side of fries. They really pile the turkey on, unfortunately it was a bit dry. The bacon was overcooked and just crumbled everywhere. On the other hand, the fries were delicious. For breakfast, I ordered the french toast with a side of scrambled eggs.They know how to cook a good hearty breakfast. They leave a pot of coffee on your table so you can fill up on your time. The best part of this trip was the service. Everyone was very happy to serve us and was very fast to bring the food out. If you are able to ignore the cigarette smoke that sneaks in from the casino out the door, you'll enjoy yourself just fine. read more
