Amazing amazing place!! This restaurant was very quiet and had a nice ambience. Our server was really nice and the service in total was great. We got rigatoni vodka and margarita pizza for the meal. Both were absolutely amazing. The pasta sauce was so rich and the pasta itself was soft like a pillow. Meanwhile, the pizza was fantastic. The crust was immaculate with the perfect amount of crunch and softness. The cheese and sauce were a great touch as well. Now as for the desert, it was absolutely electric. The triple chocolate cake truthfully felt like I was eating chocolate truffles and cake made from a professional pastry chef. Absolutely fantastic. The tiramisu was simply marvelous. What a mixed experience my first order from here was! I don't mean to give the impression that anything was outright bad, but the items in my order definitely ranged from exceptional to disappointingly bland. We got an order of Tuscan Wings, a Napoli pizza (sausage, broccoli rabe, smoked mozzarella; white pizza), and a vegetarian pizza. The good news was that the wings were out-of-this-world good. We ordered delivery and the delivery guy took a while to find my apartment (partly because he'd only been told my nearest intersection), but you wouldn't know it from those Tuscan Wings, which were crisp, hot, and juicy by the time I dug into them. They were a more or less ideal dry wing, both in terms of preparation, texture, meatiness, and flavor, with the subtle lemon flavor hidden in with the olive oil, garlic, and parm giving them just a little extra something special. That was one item La Scala absolutely nailed. The pizzas excited us considerably less. My Napoli was fine, but it wasn't exactly bursting with flavor - the most present was that of the smoked mozzarella, which was pretty good, but not what I wanted carrying the pizza. The sausage may have been the primary weak link - there were a decent amount of the crumbles they used on each slice, but it didn't do much to assert itself, flavor wise and at times felt drowned in the rabe. The front of the pizza had a bit of a hard time holding its form, too. The vegetarian pizza was also a bit dull in the flavor department, though it delivered plenty of the promised vegetables. In retrospect I kind of wish we'd ordered a red pie, too, just for comparison, but at the time we just picked what appealed most to each of us. I guess that adds up to a slightly negative overall experience since the two pizzas both left us flat (hot sauce, parmesan, & garlic helped), but the wings hit the spot so directly that I can see giving the place another go, just as an excuse to look for reasons to continue ordering for more of them. And after all, the worst I can really say is we were unimpressed by the place's white pizzas, and there's a lot more to the menu than them. read more

We went for Restaurant week as a party of 11. Our server, Hayley, was very sweet and accommodating as some of our group arrived later. Food was delicious. Some of us ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and some from the regular menu which can make things more challenging. Everyone enjoyed their food. Usually in a group this large, someone isn't as happy with their order, but no one had complaints. Each course was brought out timely but not hurriedly, so we were able to enjoy our meal. The only delay was at the end because they were brewing a fresh pot of coffee; personally, I'd rather have fresh coffee. The free parking was a nice extra. My husband and I absolutely LOVE this place!! We have been going for years, pre & post remodel. The artichokes are amazing, I love both types of the arancini and my husband always gets the pizza and enjoys it. The drinks are always good. Solid Italian food. We went on a Friday night and the staff was able to give my partner and I seating away from others. Our server was super friendly and had great recommendations for food choices. I originally wanted the caprese and she suggested getting a burrata board instead. Really appreciated this! The arancini was delicious! Calamari was perfectly and seasoned. My partner's veal with gnocchi was delicious. My ravioli was just OK, but the rest of the meal was so good that I wasn't too sad about it. Can't wait to come back. read more

Everything was nasty except the pizza. Calamari trash. Truffle fries... dookie. Cheese was sitting cold on top cheesesteak rolls was marginal. The cheesesteak pizza was decent. fra diavolo was not spicy. Seafood garlic pasta was horrible. Had to take it home to doctor up with seasons. The ginger margarita were definitely watered down. I ordered a beer in its place and got it in a high ball glass. So no more pints just 10 oz. Wack. Brussels sprouts which should have been delicious was drowning in balsamic vinegar that you tasted nothing... also trash. Overall had a pleasant dinner with the family. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We tried the Rigatoni Vodka which my daughter enjoyed. The waitress was kind to point out they could remove the pancetta from the dish which was perfect for my daughter who does not like pancetta. Really great casual Italian spot if you're in the Old City area. Food was out really fast, although It's a different concept in service: food comes out fresh so that if you have multiple people in your party, not everyone will get their meal at the same time. It's great that they explain this, and it's worth it. The food was great, generous portions too. The staff was nice, they made sure you were made aware when your food was on its way. I have to say that I did not have high expectations when we decided to give LaScala's Fire a chance. We often walk by, but just have not been lured in until recently. It was a relatively chilly night, and we were out with the dogs and decided to give it a shot, and I have to say what resulted was a surprise. It was good, and we will be back! Despite it being a chilly night and our server had on shorts, he was incredibly attentive. Quite spectacular, really. We ordered the calamari (yummy, perfectly fried), a few pizzas, and chicken parm... and everything was solid, in particular my chicken parm. The only complaint was some of the characters from the street bothering us while we ate. Unfortunately, that can happen anywhere outside. Next time, we will probably just dine inside. All in all, a pleasant and good surprise. If you are in the neighborhood, it is worth checking out! read more

Another restaurant week success! As always I feel you can never go wrong with Italian. This time LaScala blew me away with such great service and portion size. The vegetarian pizza was fresh with ingredients and the crust was light and tasty. The rigatoni vodka sauce was amazing. The seasoning used was perfect for the dish. To top off the night the warm bread pudding with ice cream was excellent. Emily our server was very nice and knowledgeable about great options for the knight. She was upfront about what to expect (portion size) so we would not over order. I will be back and highly recommend this restaurant. Please note this is a chain restaurant. read more

A friend recommended this place, so a few friends and I went. One positive note right off the bat is that despite the fact that we were a very large group (11 people) and that it was Saturday night , we were able to be seated immediately. We were actually able to call in about 30 minutes beforehand no problem. They sat us outside, and it was cold, but it wasn't much of a problem because they had outdoor heaters that kept us going. The food itself was alright, but I think the more important thing was the portion size. I ordered a calzone (and accidentally demolished it before taking a picture), but I had some extra to eat later. Everyone at the tables seemed pretty full, and despite the fact that we ordered for a ton of people and everyone got drinks, everything only came out to ~30-something dollars per person. I've given this place a good 3 times and each time has been a disappointment. The pizza is made with cheap quality cheese, the wings were the driest wings I've ever had in my life. They were so bad I actually gave two boxes of the wings to a homeless person at the wawa down the street. This restaurant is in a great location. Unfortunately it's nothing more than a pizza place posing as an Italian restaurant. The food here is simply not good and the service is just as bad. Came her for dinner and won't be back. The place has a weird atmosphere with very modern seating but old decorations. Our waiter recommended the italian pizza to start. The pizza was cooked well, good crunch on the crust, the long hots gave the pizza a good spice, but there was no tomato sauce. For dinner we got the sunday dinner and pasta bolognese. Our waiter wound up bringing me the wrong meal at first and gave me the vodka rigatoni. The sauce was not good and did not taste like vodka sauce at all. When he brought out my correct meal, which again was another recommendation, I was disappointed. The sauce was bland and very boring with the sausage having no flavor. The only good thing were the meatballs in the Sunday dinner. The Food is Actually Pretty Good While we enjoyed our food, I'm not sure everyone enjoyed us being there. We almost felt unwelcome by the host and felt like he had a bit of an attitude. We told them we had three adults and needed a high chair for the little one. He said okay and looked around. He was going to sit us in the first room we walked into (he had put the menus down but changed his mind) but then put us in the back corner. That's not a problem at all. I hope I don't have a big enough ego to care about where we sit at a restaurant - just happy to be out but, in retrospect, I now wonder if this was done on purpose. When we sat down, we asked if they had happy hour (they do not) but his response made it sound like he thought it was a ridiculous question to ask (it was 5:30). We waited for a few minutes, the baby was getting antsy and the guy was on his cell phone at the host station. No high chair. The server came over after a bit - to be fair, he was quite good for the evening and had a great attitude. There was one moment of professionalism that he displayed that I appreciated but won't get into it here due to details. I do wish I got his name. Anyway, the server finally brought over the high chair and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We asked what they had which is when he realized that we didn't have drink menus so he had to go to the host stand to get one. The rest of the evening was pleasant and we didn't let poor service from one person ruin our evening but just take note that others may run into this. The food is actually solid and I really enjoyed everything. The food would probably get 4/5 for me but the service would be 2/5 due to the host. The actual server was a 5/5. Just be warned upon entering that you might get someone who doesn't have the most receptive attitude. read more

Not a fan, before ordering I asked.. what size are the chicken wings? Server assured me the wings were a nice size. Food took a while to arrive, what surprised us was the pizza came out first... ok open kitchen style.. at first bite mist of the cheese came off the pizza... the cheese was extremely chewy. I understand businesses are hurting so maybe the Quality of the ingredients or the ingredients themselves are not available. There was a healthy amount of Italian sausage jalapeño pepper and pepperoni on the pizza and yet it's still didn't have any flavor. I would've preferred a little more sauce but maybe it was just the cheese it just did not taste like anything. I love love love brussels sprouts so I was happy to order their version of the crispy Brussels sprouts. Whatever the dressing was on top The brussels sprouts were doused in it -- to the point they were no longer crispy they were very soggy. And last but not least the tiny chicken wings: in the picture they appear to be nice size however they were very small. The sauce it was supposed sweet chili but it tasted like barbecue sauce it. no spice to the sauce at all; i requested the chicken to be fried hard so they would be a little crispy but that didn't either. After eating the meal, we waited probably 20 minutes for the server, finally hubby went looking for him. Someone else came to bring the receipt. Won't go back, did not use bathroom. I picked Lascala's fire for a date night mistakenly believing that I could benefit from the restaurant week menu. I was wrong-- it was a Saturday night. I should have read the fine print. So, I've had Lascala's before but it was a while ago and it was take-out so I can't attest to what that was like. But, I know that it was enough for me to want to give it another chance dining in. Upon arrival to the location, I was delighted with the fact that we were able to be seated for our reservation right away at the booth that I had requested. Our waitress eagerly asked us what we'd like to drink and if we had any ideas in mind to start. We decided to start off with cheesesteak egg rolls. They were good but they were not special. I've definitely had better (see Ironhill Brewery and numerous Thai or Chinese food joints). I also decided to get the roasted Brussels sprouts and asked for the vinaigrette to come on the side...it did not. The Brussels sprouts were overly charred and totally underwhelming with flavor, by which I mean .. had no flavor. I tried to revive them by adding them to my pasta later on. We'll talk about the in a moment. I decided to order a dish that was described as a creamy linguini pasta with a sautéed chicken breast. Now, I understand that certain kitchen's like to neutralize the salt level to allow the diner to customize the level of salt to add. But this dish felt devoid of any level of salt. And, there was no salt or pepper on the table. So, when I asked for some parm, salt, and pepper to try to redeem this dish --- I was disappointed to find that I really wasn't unable to give it life. The dish itself also didn't have any dimension as far as seasoning-- didn't get any hints of garlic or herbs either. I will say that I tried some of my partner's pizza (sweet and spicy chicken pizza -- no Gorgonzola, sub mozzarella lol-- don't get me a wrong I'm a big cheese lover but Gorgonzola can stay far away from me as far as I'm concerned). The dough was delicious. Overall, it was a solid "B" pizza. On my end, I was left disappointed in my choices. I keep wanting to find a dish here that really satisfies me on a core level -- but I just haven't found it yet. I really want to try like a ravioli next time. That's a classic and solid choice, right? Bottom line, our waitress was friendly and service was sufficient. Price was decent for what it is but I'm still left wondering why it is that I still can't seem to strike a win with the meals that I have received here. went to the Newtown Square location last night. The only good thing I can say is the food order was actually correct which is impressive considering the waiter we had. As soon as we sat down, we informed the waiter we were getting separate checks. He did not remember and when he went to "fix" and separate the bill, he put the wrong items together. He never came back to check on us once the food was delivered. He never removed empty plates, menus, extra glasses etc. We had to flag other staff down to get refills, have empty plates removed, condiments etc. Additionally, the restaurant itself was sooo dark, we had to use the flash lights on our cellphones to read the menus and the bill. My husband went to the restroom and said it was so dark in there as well. Finally, the food was delivered at random. Hot pasta dishes were delivered before cold salad appetizers. One person sat for 10 minutes with no food as everyone else was eating. Needless to say, we will not return. read more

Last night my husband and I headed to the Villanova location to have a quick meal for our Anniversary. We'd never been there before and we were struck by the restaurant itself- is really pretty. Our server was so kind and attentive. The app, drinks, meal and dessert were delicious- and nice sized portions-not too big. There was a hiccup as we were leaving and the restaurant handled it so professionally. They definitely gained our business in the future-the food, workers and ambiance were stellar. read more

I stumbled upon this place while I was in Philadelphia on business from Atlanta. It is a pretty solid place. I had the worst experience at Lascala's on chestnut street . I was on the verge of walking out without paying or writing F@@k You on the check . I would give the service a zero if I could at the chestnut street location . The Hostess Brianna was rude. She didn't put my wine order in . She was bartending and trying to be a hostess . I waited 30 minutes for my vegetarian pizza . When it finally came it was not cooked . The sauce was runny and the crust tasted like it wasn't cooked . She said she would take a discount off our bill . We asked for two more glasses of wine . She gives us the bill they didn't charge us for the pizza . But didn't take off a discount . I asked for a manager . Jim comes over with a nasty attitude saying he didn't charge us for the two wines. No apology . The service was the absolute worst . Come here if you want to deal with an attitude and rudeness. Never again read more

Usually great food and service. Was there this week and took a colleague to lunch and for an appetizer, a salad, a pasta, and two iced teas, my final bill was $80.00! It'd be nice if they came up with some lunchtime prices so don't expect the get out of there without sticker shock. The food is wonderful with generous portions. The service can be very good but inconsistent. For instance, on this visit I had to track down my waiter twice. Lastly, they add a 3.5% surcharge for paying by credit card. This surcharge isn't listed anywhere on their website nor is it in the menu when you enteri the restaurant, it is merely communicated via a piece of paper on the door when you walk in, so if you're having a conversation with someone else while you're walking in and totally missed this piece of paper, you're taken by surprise when you receive the bill. read more

Convenience to Independence Hall is the only good thing about this place. Food arrives when ready, so people don't actually get to eat together. Alicias Sunday dinner is smothered in ricotta cheese to the point of ridiculousness. Meatballs taste like cardboard. Gnocchi was overwhelmed with sauce and boring as all get out. Portions are so huge it is impossible to finish half, even if the stuff tasted any good, so lots of food is wasted. Save your money, don't eat here. read more
