This place is great. I've been here twice and the food and service has been terrific both times. You can't go wrong with the roti channi - flaky, crisp and it comes with an awesome curry dipping sauce which has a bit of a kick. Drinks here are strong and sufficiently asian in flavor. The massaman curry is delicious along with the 5 spice pork roll and chilli crab. Word of warning, the chilli crab isn't the most elegant thing to eat but it's still delicious. The atmosphere was very nice with an eclectic blend of decor choices... Wood lattice work on one wall, brick on another ... with a cool vintage tin ceiling to tie it all together. Highly recommended. I went to Laut with four friends on a Wednesday night, and we had no problem getting a reservation just two days beforehand. Two of the friends I was eating with had been to Laut (several times) before. They recommended we share the Roti Canai to start. It was delicious. I was previously familiar with thicker, smaller roti, but this version was large and thin and amazing. The curry dipping sauce was fantastic. For my main meal, I ordered the Laut's Special Noodles dish. In thai restaurants, I often gravitate towards Pad See Eiw or Pad Thai, but this time I wanted to try something new. Laut's Special Noodles were delicious. They're a combination of rice and egg noodles with a great dark soy sauce, bean sprouts, chinese broccoli, and this delicious fried shrimp topping. I would definitely order this dish again, but i also want to go back and try everything else! read more

A fan of Malay/Singaporean food this was a solid place -- I'd give it a 3.75 stars. It is small and can get a bit noisy though... we ordered: 1. Mee Goreng -- one of my favorite dishes, they do it well. Ample prawns and tofu, well seasoned, with a squirt of lemon juice. 2. Masak Kicap Beef -- wonderfuly tender beef fragrant with five spice and other spices. 3. Fried Chicken - tasty chicken, nothing over the top special, but good. I ordered Pad See Ew. The taste was good. It is not that salty. But I would recommend to watch out your check before you pay. They may put a higher price than an actual price in the menu.. Came here in person last night - food was incredible. We got the roti canai as an appetizer to split (the dipping sauce is so good, highly recommended!!) and then I ordered the Char Kueh Teow noodles with shrimp and sausage after asking the server what his favourite noodle dish was. It did not disappoint!! Noodles are fresh and flavorful, the sauce is tangy and mildly spicy, and the whole thing is stir fried to perfection. I had promised to share some of it with my friend before it arrived, but ended up changing my mind and eating the whole thing on my own. The service isn't that fast, but we got there at 6:30 and were out within an hour. It definitely got busier though towards the end, so something to keep in mind. read more

Came here for lunch and while the place was packed, we got seated within around 15 minutes. I got the Curry Laksa in the lunch special section and it came with a side of soup. The side of soup tasted pretty good compared to the sides that I've tried in other places. The Curry Laksa came in a medium sized bowl, not too big and not too small, but just enough to leave me content. I liked the taste of it overall, but the chicken was not to my liking. I'm always suspicious of a restauraunt that combines different cuisines, in this case Malaysian and Thai. However, in this case I was pleasantly surprised. as an Appetizer we had the Sotong Goreng (marinated fried squid). This was some of the best calimari I've ever had, but for $9, I would expect a larger portion. I had the malaysian curry with shrimp for dinner ($15). It was presented in a clay pot with a separate bowl of coconut rice. Again, the portion was on the small side, but the dish was delicious and it was packed with very large shrimp. It was spicy, but not obnoxiously so. and the okra and tomatoes were cooked perfectly (no soggy tomatoes). On the whole, Really well prepared dishes, if on the small side. I cant say anything for the service or the space itself as I only got delivery but this has to be some of the best Malaysian food I have had here in the city. (please note it is also the only Malaysian food I have had but i like to start at the top) I had the "pineapple entree" with scallops. Its one of those chose your own protein situations and I love scallops so I went with the pricey option. I'm pretty sure though that it would taste good with any of the options they had. Its this wonderful tamarind lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, ginger, coriander seeds, chili, shrimp paste (this list comes off the web site I could taste the tamarind and some of the chili and I'm sure the rest are there but discerning them wasn't something i was trying to do) sauce that's sweet, tangy and delicious. then it comes with pineapple bell peppers and onions nothing too fancy but man I was scraping my plate to get the rest of that sauce up. My fiance had the pork chops because if there is a pork chop on the menu she'll generally order that. And she was really impressed by this particular chop. Its cut really thin, but still moist and flavorful. We also had an appetizer of the blanket shrimp, which were great. Seasoned really well and wrapped in a thin rice paper with a tasty coconut + other stuff dipping sauce. Will be back here for the actual restaurant experience at some point although I might just get the same food as before. *have now been here for sit down dinner, and really enjoyed myself. Their roti canai's were very crisp and even though it didn't mimic the LadBible video that enticed me to come, it was delicious none the less. It came with many dipping curries of assorted spice ranges. The other food I ordered was just as delicious. The decor confused me as they showcased egg puffs which were native to Hong Kong and other Chinese dishes that I knew were not Malaysian or well known as Malaysian of any sort. Now on to the lost important part: the server took a while to come and greet me, the restaurant wasn't busy i would've understand it, if it was, so it's ok I ordered the Roti is like an appetizer so I told him to send that and that I was gonna order something else just needed to take a look at the menu, Roti came to the table, I ATE IT ALL, there was some liquid left but Since I didn't get a spoon I left it in the plate I just ate the bread dipped in the curry it was so good. The server never came back, didn't check on me at all, I was there for nearly 20 time 30 minutes, another server asked me if I was ok so I asked her for the check and that was it. I left and didn't try anything else. That service disappointed me completely, probably because I am a female and I was there alone he though I wasn't gonna tip him right therefore didn't gave me the attention that I deserved but I am also a server and I tipping well and getting good service is my number one priority. My friend and I came across Laut after we weren't able to get into another restaurant not too far from here. We were SO glad it worked out the way it did. The food was excellent and ambiance super cool. The only "con" is that it's a small place, so it's SUPER loud. You're also quite close to your neighbors because it is so small but hey - that's nyc! We would definitely be back. PS - Thai iced tea comes with dairy, in case you didn't already know! I didn't, and felt bad for not asking before ordering because I'm lactose intolerant and couldn't have it. My friend had it, though, and really liked it! read more

Went to Laut for the first time today. They have such a large menu that it took awhile for me to decide. I found it pretty strange that they also have Japanese on the menu as well. I shared a shrimp appetizer with a friend. It was ok as the dipping sauce had a little too much Ginger to my liking. My entree was really good though. I had the Chili Crab (soft shell). Soft shell crab came with this spicy egg/tomato sauce that reminds me of a dish my mom made growing up. It comes with a steamed bun which is a fun alternative to having rice. Service was really good there. Friendly and prompt servicing. Overall good experience. I would give it 3.5 stars rather than 4 but Yelp does not provide that option. read more

My friends and I ate here for dinner last night and were extremely disappointed. First, the wait staff was horrible, they never came and checked on us and got our order wrong. We ordered a curry but got something else, after eating it and trying to get their attention for about 30 minutes we finally told them and they said that they wouldn't bring us what we originally wanted or we could order it additionally. The salads were horrible and tasteless, the green curry had deep fried salmon and was gross and thick. Everything was greasy, small portions, and way overpriced for really horrible food. I have had to much better. After we received our check, they told us that they had a card minimum and wouldn't split between more than 4 cards, which is ridiculous. Then, they asked us to leave when we had only been sitting there for about 5 minutes after our check came and we were catching up with old friends. After having some bomb Thai food in Boston a few weeks ago, I have been craving drunken noodles. I did some research and this place popped up. Reviewers said it had 1 Michelin star, so I figure "hey it must be pretty good." Went here after work with my friend and we were seated immediately. The staff were friendly. We ordered the soft shell crab, the drunk man (of course), a pad Thai, 2 Thai ice teas and a green tea creme brulee! Honestly the food wasn't exceptional. It was flavorful but nothing special. This is a solidly good restaurant! We had excellent service and we both loved our dishes. The server knew the dishes very well and entertained my questions about food allergies. I got the eggplant tofu dish in garlic sauce. I was a little worried that I wouldn't like it because it wasn't the traditional basil eggplant tofu, but it was amazing!!
