They did a fantastic job with my daughter's color and cut.

They did an excellent job with my daughter's color and hair cut. Made her feel comfortable throughout the process.

    Haircut + Color

Had a haircut and color done by Thi! She did amazing and was very friendly and quick! I love it.

What I asked for vs what I got

Beware! The only reason this salon has good reviews is because of Lynn Chung. I couldn't get an appointment with her, but I thought I'd give the salon a try anyway so I let Mariam cut my hair. I showed her a photo of what I wanted, and she said "oh a-line, right? Okay I got it." I was so excited she could do this for me, but then a few things happened. 1. She added a lot of super short, choppy layers. I never said I wanted layers and the picture I showed her didn't have layers like what I got in the end. Plus, the layers don't blend or gradually become longer with the front sections. 2. The cut became much shorter than what we had agreed on. I asked for the length to be just above my shoulders, like in the picture I showed. She said she thinks collarbone would be good. I said okay, I'll trust what you think is best. She asked me how short the back should be, and I approved the area she touched too. But then I ended up with short, chin length hair! Since it was supposed to be an a-line haircut, she started with the back. I couldn't see what she was doing because my head was tilted down or to the side the whole time. I wish I could have stopped her. 3. When she got to the sections she separated that should have stayed long, she noticed there were some shorter pieces from some bangs that I was growing out. She told me she couldn't give me the a line haircut because of this. I wish she told me this in the beginning before cutting my hair. If I knew that she couldn't do the a line, I would have asked her to just give me a trim with long layers. Why did she wait until she was halfway through the haircut, with my back hairs chopped off, to tell me she can't do it??? PLUS, I think she still could have done the a line. Look at the picture! Couldn't she blend in those shorter pieces? Or just let them continue growing out? They were barely noticeable. I just trusted her in the moment though and let her continue cutting my hair. I regret this so much. 4. She changed my natural part, separated the sections in the front that should have stayed long, and then did most of the haircut this way. Towards the end of the haircut, she asked me where my hair naturally parted. I tried to tell her, but I should have asked to make my part myself or kept my hair the way it was--she already cut most of my hair using the wrong part! Why change it at the end of the haircut? I think this messed up the layers even more. I've been home a few days now, and I hate my haircut. I feel like I have to straighten or blow dry my hair every morning. The straightener doesn't even work my hair is just untamable now. Im so sorry, I don't normally leave reviews on Yelp, especially 1 stars, but I had to leave this review because what I got was so bad. Nothing like what I had asked for.

I follow Thi to get my haircuts .. Now after 1.5 years in lockdown, guess who I hunt down to get a fresh cut? yet again delivered a lovely layered cut that gave my hair volume . She took her time with shampoo and conditioner too, so I was completely relaxed . Masked, sanitized, socially distant btw customers and vaccinated. I'll be back! Thanks Thi!

Thank you so much, Thi! We love our haircuts

When it comes to Lavender Salon, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend to get an appointment with Thi! She did both my daughter and I's hair and we love our new cuts :) She even showed me how to maintain my hair at home when she finished. Thank you Thi!

Thi is an amazing hairstylist! She was able to bring my natural black hair to this vibrant red WITHOUT bleach. My hair always turns out just how I wanted! She is kind, patient, and very experienced.

Thank you Holly for your quick response to my request and good work on my hair cut and love the layers of color! You are not only talent and also very funny and friendly. I was in and out within 2 hours and thanks for offering my favite Tea while waiting for my coloring

Such a beautiful salon! I brought my mom here because she's visiting from out of the country for a few months and her roots were growing out and needed a fill. We did some Yelp-searching and found Lavender! We booked with An because of the photos on Yelp of the great work she did with some short haircuts (my mom rocks an A-line bob) and I decided to wait for my mom and get my nails done by Natalie. This was such a pleasant experience! An is sweet and attentive and did a great job with my mom's hair. She was precise and chose a great color for highlight and root coverage. My mom even asked for An's business card so she can tell her friends to come too! Natalie was so fun to chat with while getting my nails done! My shellac looks great and so quick! I'll definitely be coming back!

Thi did an amazing job cutting my hair. My hair was really long since I haven't gotten a haircut in a very long time. I wasn't sure if I should since I was getting used to having really long hair. A lot of other salons I've been to has always cut it way too short or don't give me much texture at all. But she gave me all of that! It was at a perfect length and it feels a lot more textured! I also have a better idea of styling my hair and frames my face really well. I haven't had the time to take any pictures of the back of my head LOL, but trust me when I say I love my hairstyle. Forsure will be coming back to her to give me a blessing with my hair. Thanks again Thi!

    Hair I Haircut

Received the best haircut! I came in for layers and a trim, Thi from Lavender salon did my hair perfectly! Exactly what I asked for and wanted. I'm so glad I came here to get my hair done. Thi was very nice, and listened to me. I recommend this salon to everyone! She really did a great job blending in my layers. Thank you Thi!!!!!

I got my nails done today and it was amazing. Cindy was super sweet and we had a great conversation. She gave me great advice too! She kept checking to make sure everything looked good and she had me choose the colors I wanted. The nails turned out beautiful! Exactly what I asked for. She did amazing. If I wasn't a tourist, this would be my permanent nail place. I'm glad I chose to get my nails done here! Thank you!!

Thi was amazing!! She took her time with washing my hair and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. The haircut looks great and it's evident that Thi has a lot of experience. I love the hair and very reasonable pricing too, will definitely be coming back here for all my hair services

I decided to make a same-day appointment for a deep tissue massage on a Monday and it was easy to make an appointment online. One thing that I appreciated was that the person at the front desk called me ahead of my appointment and asked what kind of pressure I liked as it was my first time visiting. She said she wanted to ensure that I was matched with a staff member who would best fit my preferences to ensure I had a good experience. I don't think I've had that done before the actual appointment at any other place so that was thoughtful. They even offered to take me in earlier if I was available. Once I walked in, I could tell it would be relaxing as the environment was very quiet and peaceful. As soon as I was out in a room and ready for the massage, the staff made sure I was comfortable and asked if I had any areas I wanted them to focus on, to which I answered my lower back. I liked that they even checked in once they started applying more pressure to make sure it was okay. Overall, I was very satisfied with the experience and as someone who sometimes tenses up during massages because it's too much, was able to a actually relax during my appointment and even dosed off a little. Even afterwards, my body feels great and the lower back pain has definitely improved! Overall, I would recommend coming here and would definitely come back to try their other packages.

I suggest arriving a little early to check in, fill out paperwork, and use the restroom. The massage rooms are separated by heavy black out curtains. You can hear others walking by and talking, but everybody was respectful and kept their voices to a low whisper. They ask what areas you'd like more focus on and which areas are off limits, as well as the amount of pressure you'd like for your massage. I loved that they had a pregnancy pillow on top of their massage table; such a nice added touch to ensure optimal comfort. I loved my massage here and will be back for more!

A few things to note here - 1. You do not tip upfront. Your initial payment is only for the base massage rate. You tip after your massage. They have a sign right next to the front desk which basically encourages you to tip more (1 thumbs up - 20% tip, 2 thumbs up - 25% tip, 3 thumbs up - 30% tip). Don't feel pressured because of that sign. It's better if you carry cash for the tip. They prefer it that way because you give the tip directly to your masseuse. 2. The short form you fill out lets you provide information like pressure level, sore points to focus on during the massage and any injuries that the masseuse needs to be aware of. This is very helpful in case there is a language barrier. The front desk lady was really nice and friendly. And I wasn't pressured into tipping a certain amount which is great. I opted for the Swedish massage with back walking. The rate was very reasonable and the massage was well worth the price. You can find all the rates on their website. My masseuse was quite good. I have had back walking experience in the past but this one was a little different (and more intense). My masseuse used her heels and the toes to dig into my back to loosen it before the oil massage. It was maybe 5 - 10 minutes long but there were times when I definitely struggled to breathe. This part was definitely not relaxing but it's on me. I could have asked them to lower the intensity/pressure more but I thought that they were already doing the lowest pressure because I had mentioned it in the form that I filled out. My masseuse engaged me in a few conversations during the massage. I was okay with it but I can see how that can hinder the overall experience for folks who enjoy their massage in a more quiet and peaceful setting. There wasn't any communication barrier so I was able to ask my masseuse to lower the intensity for the oil massage which was great. Their massage tables are heated but you can ask them to turn it off if it gets too hot. Unlike other massage places, this spa didn't have water or tea after the massage was over (or at least I didn't see/get any) but that's fine. Overall it was a good experience.

It just feels like he is wanting to publicly look like he is addressing the situation properly. I did end up reaching out again today, per his request, and Elena Aleteanu, the other owner, has not changed her stance. She is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that I need to reach out to Square. Square is telling me that they can't do anything on their end and that the business needs to initiate the refund. So, I reached out to Ronald again directly, and he did not respond. In addition, he got my Google review deleted and is trying to get this one deleted as well, but thankfully Yelp is a lot better about keeping honest reviews. I also forgot to note that the service was booked for two hours total, as a side by side massage. Elena tried to SCAM my sister and her partner by offering each a 1 hour service, one at a time (because of being understaffed), even though it is a two hour service. I paid $400 for the massages, so she's was trying to tell my sister that each service (which included a full massage and facial) of $200 was for one hour only, which is a lie. ORIGINAL POST: AVOID California Skin Care & Day Spa in Newark I prepaid for a service (it was a gift), received a confirmation reminder the day before, and made arrangements for my sister and her partner who are visiting from out of town. I even paid for an Uber to get them there. They arrived on time and the place was closed. No staff, no setup, nothing. They waited about 40 minutes, while I tried calling and messaging every available number. Eventually Ronald Aleteanu, one of the owners, responded on WhatsApp , but that did not change the situation and the service still was not provided. Between the Uber and waiting, this ended up wasting about 2 hours of their time (& money for the Uber), and they left with nothing. After all of that, Elena Aleteanu (who eventually came) claimed she had called and left a message (and at one point claimed that she talked to someone - a complete lie). I never received any call or voicemail, and I confirmed that the number I entered was correct. Their explanation just does not add up, especially since they had no problem sending a reminder the day before. What is most frustrating is that they still refused to issue a refund for a service they never provided. Instead, they only offered store credit, which is completely unreasonable. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place. I also posted this on NextDoor and numerous people replied noting that the same thing happened to them. So this is not an isolated incident. I've posted those screenshots here.

At best this was a slightly upgraded rub down that even my mom can do. Used 80% forearm and elbow which I hated and also requested kneading multiple times during the massage. She would do it for a few brief minutes and get back to the forearm, elbow, or basic pressing. It was terrible especially after experiencing world class technique and relaxation in Jamaica a few months ago. I still hesitantly tipped 8 bucks to make it an even $80 when I really wanted to tip 0. The receptionist questioned why and I explained to her all of the above and she simply said oh no she can't use her fingers the entire time and that I need to ask for a shiatsu massage. I don't think that was even on the menu. In my head I was thinking she barely even spent 5% of the time using her fingers. All in all, the recent negative reviews were accurate and similar experience to mine. I returned after many years due to convenience and hoping it would be a better experience this time.
