I received my degree in English, so I have a pretty good vocabulary. That being said, all I can think of is "Wow!" It is not often you get to visit such a great restaurant in Houston. Yes, H-town has wonderful culinary fare from all over the world but this is next level: For instance, the location is inside the Museum of Fine Arts; very polished, stoic ... maybe even Spartan. But, still hip including the art, locale, and music. The service is what you would expect it to be in such a fine dining establishment: Perfect. Our every need was attended to in striking accuracy and detail. For instance, every single employee that visited our table knew our names and why we were dining there. The sommelier listened to our tasting preferences and recommended several wines across a variety of pricing to allow us to select what we preferred. The food was amazing (see attachments). We did the tasting menu but opted for a single bottle of wine as opposed to multiple pairings. The portions were perfect and artfully presented. The drinks were just as creative: For instance, I have never had a warm, cinnamon-spiced tea and bourbon. And yet that is what I had on this chilly evening. The wine list is beyond compare: We chose a bottle of an unusually strong vintage (good year) and we were not disappointed. Finally, the desserts were creative, scrumptious, and playful. We were not expecting a second dessert with the words "Happy Anniversary" spelled-out in crystalized sugar! It was truly an elegant evening and one that will be remembered for a long time. In fact, it was so delicious we will be returning in just over a month. Reservations are required and must be booked a month in advance. TLDR: we won't be back due to food being just "okay" but was accompanied by poor service (timing of being taken to table, time needed just for water, cocktail drinks and food, then horrific server attitude, friendliness). A miss at almost every opportunity to provide service. If I could leave zero stars I would and I'll submit this to Michelin. Arrival - our reservation for four was 7:45. We arrived a couple of minutes early We had to wait just over 20 mins, standing next to the entrance. Food - we were extremely underwhelmed. The chicken was slightly over cooked. Unacceptable for alleged Michelin level "French" cuisine. Service - we had a server who didn't want to be a server. She was argumentative about simple cocktail orders. For example: on ordering a vesper martini she asked what two spirits we wanted. If you know that cocktail it's an odd question. I asked do you mean just the vodka and gin - she said "obviously" with an eye roll. I asked what about the 3rd - do you use lillet or cochi - she said "neither we use gin and vodka I just need you to tell me what you want". We looked at the bar and it looked like they knew what they were doing back there so took a chance. One person ordered a sazerac and another ordered an old fashioned. Fourth person stuck to water. The cocktails took 45 minutes to arrive and the old fashioned as okay, the vesper was okay, the sazerac tastes like they used absinthe as a full ingredient rather than a glass wash. I also asked for 50/50 cognac/rye. It was all rye. Sending it back was a pain in the rear and I said I'd just order a glass of wine and asked (had to ask) for the wine list which took another 10 minutes to come over. I ordered a glass of Chablis and it was stunning - as it should be for about $25/glass. Water - having a category just for water is odd but it's deserved. We all drank our respective glass within a few minutes of arrival. After 5 and then 10 minutes I asked twice for the first refill of water. Bear in mind, we waited 45 mins for the cocktails to arrive. We had to ask three more times over the course of dinner for water refills for various people at the table. It should be noted that the a manager came over unsolicited and offer to cover the first drinks due to the unacceptable delay. They didn't comp the Chablis even though I didn't get that until I was an hour at the table. Food - we did the restaurant week and we all ordered almost everything different - we figured a good way to see what all the food was like. The chicken...at at alleged Michelin worthy "French" restaurant...was overcooked. The steak was great but nothing special - just a correctly cooked steak. The rest was honestly just ok. Nothing better than 90% of the other places we've been in 2024. I'd take Rabelais any day over this place. I'd take the chicken at Coltivare or Brasserie 19 over this. Maybe even Pollo Loco. Came here last month and this by far have one of the better French cuisine in Houston. As a high end restaurant, not sure why they have a drunk serving counter close to the table. Very unfortunately we were seated beside it. Other than this, everything were excellent. We had the tasting menu as well as some or all the a la carte. Growing up with a sweet tooth, my favorite is the desserts. The Butterfly was divine! My least favorite was the braised shirt ribs. Doesn't strike me as anything special. Come on Thursday and the museum is free. You get to kill 2 birds with one stone...get some exercise enjoying the exhibits and then have a hearty meal with no guilt. read more

An amazing food experience. If you're looking for something elevated, you're looking in the right place. Food: The vegetables, amazing, and this is coming from a protein guy. Speaking of protein -- the wagyu was cooked perfectly, and at 3/4 the price of similar price-point places. Price: What you would expect for this experience. 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 starch, 2 desserts (3.5 if you count the complimentary desserts), and several drinks was about ~$400. But even with that overall price-point, I'm not mad at all. Service: Amazing, everyone was just what they should have been. Such a memorable culinary experience w/ rich, bold flavors ! Every dish was a work of art. I came here for my early 24th birthday & did the tasting menu which consisted of 5 courses. The kohlrabi ribbons were my absolute favorite. Who knew German turnips would be the best dish of the night; I literally devoured it in 2 minutes. It tasted like a creamy, savory pasta. Soooo delicious ! & the iberico pork ? To die for. I'm amazed I liked the red cabbage w/ it ?? Everything just paired so well. Even the drinks were good. I like fruity drinks so I enjoyed the cocoa berry & the cromosat & tonic ! The cromosat & tonic is a must have. It starts off blue (butterfly pea flower) & turns pink/purply when adding lime juice ! To top it off, they brought out a complimentary mango dessert (I hate mango btw but this was very good) & some champagne for us to toast at the end ! We came to celebrate our anniversary and we were both satisfied with the venue and food. I know there was a valet but we self parked and they validated so parking was free. I was a GM for a top midtown Manhattan restaurant when I lived in NY so I hope the manager takes this to heart. PRO: The ambiance was chic eclectic with a hint of retro, the wait staff were professional and showed just the right amount of attentiveness. The menu was creative and inspiring and the dishes were composed and plated beautifully. The short rib was like butter, sublime. Under normal circumstances I would have left a 5 star review. CON: However, I was the first patron to come in for lunch and shortly after I was seated a gaggle of loud women came in and for some reason I cannot fathom the hostess chose to seat them back to back with me, despite having an entirely empty dining room at her disposal. I was all fired up about getting my res and date night with the Mrs. - only to be disappointed. The dishes are pretty (bunch of tweezers got furiously busy before sending them from the kitchen), but the taste just wasn't there. And the salmon is farmed salmon. From a farm with special layers in New Zealand, but farmed nonetheless. The bread basket, as an example, looked amazing - and the bread tasted like nothing. Additionally, it was served with an overpowering olive oil - when clearly the types of breads included paired better with butter. I know this is a small detail, but is emblematic of the overall experience. It's all just a bit off. The wine list has some impressive choices, with clearly overly impressive mark-ups. They need a dress code. A couple was sitting at the bar in shorts and flip flops and I had a nice view of the their pasty legs all night. It didn't make me hungry if you know what I'm sayin'. And the valet cost $16.50 without a tip, which I found to be a stick in the eye after paying $500 for what amounted to small, bland dishes with flowers all over them. The service was exceptional and the space is beautiful. And when someone tells me the food finally tastes good - I might return. A note for the expediter - less tweezy, more tasty. read more

If Michelin gave stars in Houston then Le Jardinier would definitely be deserving of one if not more. Truly, enjoyed our celebratory Thanksgiving late lunch. It was an exploratory tasting menu with plenty of options and treats. The braised ribs were outstanding, as well as the seafood options. The surprise second course of pumpkin chestnut rollatini was heavenly and a real treat indeed. The desserts were divine. Service was excellent. We had a date night here on a Saturday night on the early side. The museum closes at 6 so we got there at 5 and had a nice stroll around the museum before checking in for our reservation. We were seated promptly in the beautiful dining room. They brought out our cocktails quickly and I was even provided a little stool for my handbag. Everything we ate was top notch but the vegetables in all of the dishes are the stars. Of the two desserts that we ordered, we were expecting to prefer the butterfly but the dark chocolate crémeux was really outstanding. It was almost like a dark chocolate mousse cappuccino. Loved. The only downside to this restaurant for me is the restroom. I am sure there is some kind of permitting reason why the restaurant doesn't have it's own restroom, but having to go out into the museum to use the restroom is a real vibe killer. Dined in on a tuesday evening with my friend. They honored my request to sit next to the window for a view and where we sat was perfect corner seat. Our reservation was at 7:15pm and the restaurant was already 1/3 full. I remember around 8-9pm was the most busiest. Nonetheless it wasn't too loud and we had a great experience. For food, we went a la carte instead of the seasonal menu. We got grilled spanish octopus for appetizer and ora king salmon and green circle chicken for our main. For drinks, just went zero-proof le jardin. For desserts, we went with the first and the third one. Aside of all of them visually pleasing, everything was super delicious and the portion was perfect as well. They gave us complimentary juice to freshen our palette which had an interesting taste. As for the bread, I expected something awful (read the reviews) but honestly we both enjoyed all 3 kinds of bread - it was yummy for me. Service was exceptional. We didn't feel rushed or anything, they did a great job refilling the water and around 8-9pm they dim the lights which sets the mood. I guess the only downside was the limited menu, but I understand. Parking is either garage $10 or valet $15. The prices were reasonable and not outrageous. If they were to update the menu or have some flexibility on the seasonal menu then I'd like to give this place another try. Overall, we had a great dinner and a great night. read more

We needed you. A restaurant of this caliber has been missing for too long and we welcome you with open arms. Everything and I mean everything from starters to cocktails were exquisite. Every dish that came out, I doubted could top the previous, but it just kept getting better. I especially loved the green circle chicken with shallot coulis, recommended by our dear amazing server Jennifer and the ricotta agnolotti...I can taste and recall the perfection of both of those dishes as I write this. We've ordered a few drinks and I will say, the Duke was divine. So many layers in a drink that starts out quite boozy that then tapers off to a nice creamy finish, something to sip on and savor little by little until the last drop. I wanted another, but the other three drinks on the table rolled their eyes. The cherry on top of this whole experience was that our server, Jennifer, was amazing. We LOVED her! She was so delightful, bubbly, personable and 1000% made our dinner that much more remarkable. She made great recommendations and squealed ever so quietly when we told her that we loved the dish that she recommended. Who is that awesome these days?? She was genuinely happy for us, you don't get that kind of service anymore, not even at Michelin star restaurants, in which we've always found our servers to be quite dull. Came here mainly for the dessert and I can't say the journey was worth it. Along with the dessert pictures, I was craving fine dining similar to the lifestyle in nyc but it's a rare to find a 10 course meal in Houston. Given the limited options, we came here for a bday celebration and I appreciated that they wrote happy birthday on the plate and included a candle. Despite the pretty presentation, the food was unfortunately not memorable. Service was extremely slow as well. I never sat in a restaurant for so many hours unless it was a 10 course meal but this wasn't even half the amount. We had multiple periods of being so thirsty because getting attention for a water or drink refill was rare. Even getting our bill so we can finally leave was a long duration. I'm not one to complain but the amount of customers here that night was not a reason to ignore customers. As for the restaurant ambience itself, the large glass was nice to see outside. This was a delightful dining experience. The food was excellent, and the setting was quite lovely and unique. We managed to get a last minute reservation for a dining room table, where we sat right next to floor-to-ceiling windows that provided a great view of the Cullen sculpture garden at the MFAH. We started our meal in the early evening and ended it late at night, which allowed us to see the garden under both the glow of the sun and the moon. Once the sun set and the restaurant dimmed its lights, the restaurant became absolutely gorgeous. The service was great from start to finish, with the sommeliers and waiters patiently taking the time to answer all our questions and constantly checking in on us, all without being overbearing. Food: The bread basket was the worst part of the meal. It was bland and the textures were not great, likely because it was gluten-free. Although I understand that there needs to be accommodations for those with Celiac disease, I think gluten-free bread should be an option, but not the only option for diners. We received complimentary carrot and ginger juice before we began the meal. It was refreshing. We tried the seasonal expression tasting menu with wine pairing. We also ordered the grilled octopus and wagyu steak tartare off of the à la carte menu. The octopus was grilled perfectly, and the fava beans and tomatoes were a delight. The romesco sauce was a bit too tangy though. The wagyu tartare was not on the menu yet, but it was recommended to us by our waiter David. I was a little skeptical at first of trying something that was not officially on the menu yet, but I am so glad he recommended it. It was my favorite dish of the whole night. The steak was tender and the flavors were so refreshing, reminding me literally of a garden in the springtime (the restaurant truly lives up to its name). Get this. The king kampachi, golden pineapple, lemon balm, and kaluga caviar was delicious. The caviar was creamy and paired really well with the sweetness of the pineapple. This dish really came together. The zucchini spaghetti was very creamy. The crunch grew on me. The risotto was nicely cooked and flavored. The roasted corn stood out to me. It came in this beautiful egg shaped dish. The lamb chop was perfectly cooked. I am not a big fan of figs and this dish did not change my opinion of them. The dessert, the butterfly yuzu mousse, was a showstopper. It is absolutely beautiful. All the parts were intricately crafted and put together into one cohesive piece. The pistachio sablé was my favorite part. I was poured a little too much of the raspberry compote, which made my dessert a tad too sweet for my liking. We also got a complimentary raspberry sorbet, and that was tangy and delicious. I think I like the flavors of the sorbet more than the yuzu mousse. We did not think some of the wines paired that well with the dishes, particularly the rosé with the caviar and the moscato with the dessert. If you are looking for a fine dining restaurant to make yourself and your loved one feel special, this is THE place to be. We didn't have a reservation, as all their tables are booked until June, but we were able to be seated at the bar. From the moment we sat down, we felt like we were being treated like royalty. They brought us complimentary juice shots (kale and ginger) in clear double-wall espresso shot glasses, it looked quite fancy. It was so refreshing and calming, set the perfect tone for the rest of our dining experience. Following the juicy shots, they brought out a basket of freshly baked warm gluten-free bread paired with a plate of quality olive oil. We ordered: Drink: La Vie En Rose. It is not only pretty-looking and but also refreshing, it tastes very smooth with a hint of watermelon. Appetizers: -Burrata, tomatoes & stone fruit, bee pollen, basil seeds: It offers a perfect blend of creaminess and a hint floral/sweet taste. -Cured red snapper, blue poppy seeds, Persian cucumber, mango: love love the combination of the refreshing taste of cucumber with a little sweetness from the mango, it goes so well with the fresh red snapper. It is out of this world! Entree: -Green circle chicken, caramelized shallot coulis, charred alliums: I know you probably eat chicken often, at home or at other restaurants, but this chicken dish is going to change you and change what you knew about chicken. I really enjoyed my experience at le jardinier I came in for lunch solo. I was greeted and sat at a table next to the big glass windows. I hope I'm remembering her name but my server Rachel gave me a run down of the menu and what the restaurant was all about. Props to her she did great with that, I ordered a glass of white wine and then decided to go ahead and do the art lovers lunch. I got the burrata may I say it was very delicious the burrata was very creamy and the pecan gremolata complemented the burrata very well. For my second course I got the grilled Branzino, I really enojoyed the farro and citrus, them together was surprisingly nice. Although the fish was surprisingly and unfortunately under seasoned but still cooked and tasted great. I then decided to get the dessert and decided on the passion flower tart.Which was very good but I wish there was just a little bit more mango sorbet unfortunately my server didn't bring me the check the manager did which is no issue but my server didn't even say bye or anything the last time I saw her was when I ordered dessert it would of been nice to see her once more but the overall experience was fantastic and I would recommend it to any one looking for a nice meal at one of the nicest restaurants in Houston read more
