Good breakfast food, good service, good coffee (ok, it was a cinnamon roll latte...), good atmosphere. Everything is just good, nothing stands out as exceptional. Even the latte which looked and sounded like it would be amazing, was just ok. As some of the other reviews have mentioned, it did seem like the server brought the check really fast and I felt rushed, which is too bad since I tend to sit in the places and work for a while. I think the Basse location is closed since they moved to the Stone Oak area. Although there's still the Nacogdoches location as well. It was okay - a lot of regulars used to go to the Basse Rd restaurant. The atmosphere inside and some of the menu items had a somewhat similar feel to that of the Magnolia House. I would come back to try the different items and enjoy breakfast foods. After recently moving to the area my wife and I were looking around for a nice cafe to enjoy breakfast and coffee on the weekends. As luck would have it we stumbled on to this place. We were quickly seated by a very polite hostess and the waitress stopped by shortly thereafter. The waitress was also very friendly and polite but also quite busy. At the table was a carafe of cold spa water with a few clean cups which I thought were a great touch. The food and coffee were great. The ambience was relaxed and the noise level was moderate. Service was bad, food was bad. Trying to get seated, folks at the counter talking among themselves so we stood there awkwardly till they noticed us to get seated. Got seated and nobody came to take our order for awhile, another server had to let ours know we were there, even though our server was at the table in front of us. We ordered a latte, that tasted like watered down folgers with cool whip and cinnamon on it. Food came, and low and behold we were disappointed. The waffle was more disappointing the more you chewed, and the French toast tasted like burnt cardboard with syrup on it. The crepes were meh, but it was deli ham and bacon in a crepe so nothing special. I, like Jamie L., am really surprised to hear all the bad experiences people have had at Le Peep. It honestly makes me pretty sad, because I've always had good times here. Right on Stone Oak Parkway, it's a good place for meeting friends. I've always like the cute chicken and daffodil yellow decor. I almost always get their skillets, which have never failed to disappoint. The omelettes are always great. I've also tried their oatmeal and waffles, which were fine. The Alamo Heights location recently closed and I really enjoyed going there so I tried to find it somewhere else and the only other location is in Stone Oak. I really enjoy Le Peep because it's a nice place to go for a reasonably priced brunch. I love the breakfast options that they have at Le Peep. It's like a laid back version of somewhere like La Madeline for breakfast. It's a bit awkward at times because you'll find yourself surrounded by chickens. Decorative chickens are all over the place. Ever since I ate at Austin's Kerbey Lane Cafe, I have been on a quest to find something similar in San Antonio. Well, Le Peep didn't fill the void for me, but it was decent enough. Here is the breakdown: Egg sandwich: one egg, cheese and bacon served on your choice of bread. Got mine on wheat. Side of fruit. Egg perfectly cooked. A little chinchy with the cheese. Bacon was delicious! This is a great choice if you need some morning energy, but don't want to get so stuffed that you need a nap right after. 18 wheeler: eggs, sausage, French toast, potatoes. Sausage had a good flavor. French toast had a nice crust and dusting of powdered sugar. The potatoes were just okay. Just a tad undercooked for my taste. Kids pancake- shaped like Mickey mouse! How can you go wrong with that? Served with whipped cream and sliced banana. My kid loved it. Le Peep isn't going to make you want to scream Vive Le France. Had a great breakfast at the stone oak le peep. Wait time was about 20mins, which seemed reasonable given that it was Easter Sunday at 10am. We sipped on our first cup of coffee while sitting in comfy chairs in the lobby and so it made waiting easier and gave us a nice opportunity to be already scanning the menu. Ordered gooey buns, drifter skillet, and Sicilian panini w/homemade chips and everything was excellent. Our server, Anna-Maria was welcoming and friendly and checked back often to make sure that our glasses were always full and we had everything we needed. The quality of the eggs and rest of the ingredients seemed above that of magnolia and Jim's. highly recommend this place! Tip: if you have out of town company visiting, and want to add a touch of "amazing" to your at home breakfast buffet spread, call in a to go order of gooey buns. After ultimately failing to find wherever they're located in Alamo Heights, I traveled up to Stone Oak to grab some breakfast at Le Peep. Breakfast is a meal that's under-represented in San Antonio, so I'm always happy to find another place that serves a decent eggs Benedict. One thing that struck me as a bit queer is the atmosphere of the restaurant and how much it reminded me of The Egg and I. The two share a fair amount of similarities, right down to the unhealthy obsession with chickens. Chalk it up to nostalgia for my favorite breakfast place in Colorado, or me just seeing things that weren't there, but at times I felt like I was in a Bizarro-Egg and I. Not that that has any bearing on the food served - Le Peep can bring the goods on its own merits, thank you. I grabbed a haggle of coffee and the Florentine Benedict, made with spinach, mushrooms, and bacon pieces. When I was finished, the waitress made a joke about how darned clean my plate was. The potatoes were a fine accoutrement to the meal, and while I wouldn't have ordered the cinnamon apples on their own, they make a nice finisher to a savory meal. I'm all in favor of more good and homely breakfast places in San Antonio, so Le Peep gets added to the list of places you should suggest when your unenlightened buddies want to go to IHOP or Denny's. read more

Le Peep. Meh. I have been here so many times and today I decided I just do not need to return. Nothing bad to report but nothing exciting either. I started off with a latte that consisted of a burned shot of espresso and warm milk in a cup. I should have just ordered a cheap cup of coffee and added milk to it. I think it would have tasted better and it would have cost about $2 less. I had the Spanish omelet. This is a description of my plate: Overcooked omelet with cheese that wasn't completely melted and green onions and peppers that were still crunchy and cold. I don't even know how you can overcook the outside of something that is still raw on the inside. It was topped with a "salsa" (and I use that term loosely) that basically tasted like tomato sauce. On the side was four pieces of burnt toast and potatoes that still tasted almost raw but were chewy. Nothing tasted bad. Nothing tasted good. It just tasted boring. I'll spare you the details of the other plates ordered by my companions but just know they ordered different meals with similar results. If this place were cheap and fast, I might understand the results I got. But, for one breakfast here I spent $11.71 for the food and $3.69 for the latte. Completely disappointed Le Peep, and I don't see myself coming back any time soon. read more

For those of you who like(d) the egg sandwich, where you get one egg any style on your choice of bread, this item is no longer on the revamped menu. I didn't notice any other major changes, but considering that there aren't a lot of small-portioned options, I am sorry they took the egg sandwich away. Coffee is fresh--I stick with the plain house brew, and they bring you your own carafe. My mother likes her bacon pretty crisp, and always says that up front, but I think Le Peep lacks a little in the "made-to-order" department, because Mom sends the bacon back over 1/2 the time. Mom also wants the yelp world to know that we always see kids eating at Le Peep with dolls. The establishment is doll-friendly. Some kids bring multiple dolls with their own place settings. Charming or creepy? You decide. Service is friendly, and you usually get seated really quickly compared to other breakfast spots in this area. Potatoes aren't the most delicious, but they get props for being the LEAST greasy home fries that I have ever eaten. Go for waffle over pancakes. Biscuits are also good, but skip their gravy--a little too gray and gelatinous. Also, just in case anyone from Le Peep is reading this, I have one weird peeve about the place: the plastic table covering ripples in places, which makes it hard to set your drink down in a spot where it won't spill. Silly, I know. But it gets me every time. My husband and I used to love coming here but the last two times we have gone the food has been so awful. My waffles came out raw then after I sent it back it they came back burnt. We had bacon so hard I couldn't even chew it and a weird old fruit cup that consisted mostly of lettuce, one piece of old pineapple and a bunch of old grapes (after waitress told us it would be blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cantaloupe). I guess when I dine out (which is frequent) I expect a personal experience with friendly up beat staff. We have given this place 2 chances both coming in 9amish 2 weekends in a row. We have a 5 month old who we keep in his stroller since he is 5 months old and can sit unassisted yet (obviously) they sat us at a dirty table with water cups half drank. The second time we went we brought my mother and younger brother and of course my husband, son, and I they tried to put us at a 4 top in the back with a highchair behind everyone facing a wall! Seriously? Whose bright idea is it that we should leave a baby behind everyone all by himself. I understand not having kids but I feel like that should be a common sense issue which should've been accounted for during the hiring process. Whatever. Sure it's cheap and the food is generic but my experience sucked. Visited La Peep on a Saturday morning and I cannot express how disappointed I was. I ordered the Hen Pen with a side of pancakes and found myself enjoying the plain toast that accompanied the meal more than the meal itself. My eggs were ordered over-medium and I received over-medium eggs swimming in oil. It almost seems as though they just poured the eggs and oil out of the pan and directly into my plate. I was not able to eat more then 1 due to the yolk becoming almost water-like consistency once it mixed in with the oil. Please keep in mind I "blotted" my eggs with a napkin and they were still swimming in oil. I didn't give up on La Peep after my egg-ident; I moved on to the pancakes, surely those would be delicious!!! Boy was I mistaken! Very flat and tasteless! I would say the only taste they provided was a weird after taste...that was NOT enjoyable. Good points: bacon was crispy but not burnt, coffee was hot and delicious and my toast was on point! read more
