Absolutely outstanding. I had an early dinner of black mussels accompanied by a Campari and soda. The mussels were among the best I have ever tasted - and I order them a lot. Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Prices were reasonable for the environment and the quality. VERY highly recommend this fine establishment! Wow. I had no idea what an amazing little restaurant Le Petit is! It was like we walked into a bistro in Paris! We came here for my parent's 64th anniversary and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with such care. Jay seated us at a cozy booth, and Petr, our waiter, was the right balance of attentive and patient. It took awhile for my Mom to decide as the menu was packed with a variety of choices. We started with proper cocktails - martinis and gimlets. Total perfection! The food was beyond delicious! We had a tasty fig salad, lamb chops cooked perfectly, a hanger steak and sea bass. Everything was womderful. The chocolate souffle was sublime. And they were so sweet to bring an special dessert for my parents. We will be back! Absolutely charming French restaurant that will transport you to another place and another time. Very much reminicent of petite restaurants in Paris during the '80's.... old world charm and flare. My first time here was 30 years ago and this establishment is sailing forward strong. They are doing many things right. Classic French cuisine with some modern California cuisine fusion and Italian touches served here. Great wine selection; my recommendation is to order a bottle, sit back and take in this classic French bistro ambiance. For appetizers we ordered the escargot; it was not the best I have had, but acceptable. The Fig and Burrata salad was beautiful and delicious. Unfortunately this place is not what it used to be. We got postmates delivered. The lamb chops were so beyond small you really need to get two orders. The onion soup had hardly any cheese and it was really bland. They changed their recipe or something. It used to be really good and the portions use to be normal size. Not like an appetizer size. My husband had the rib eye and it was just really over cooked. Anyway there are better restaurants to order from. I would rather spend more and enjoy my meal. My brother-in-law pointed out this restaurant for its comfortable ambiance, delicious and authentic French meals with nods to Mediterranean and Californian styles, and unpretentious service. The restaurant's exterior and interior decor will transport you to a Parisian restaurant or cafe, and during Christmas time, their holiday decorations add more warm and welcoming cheer. Our server, Peter, was friendly, attentive, and engaging. I found it interesting that Le Petit Restaurant has a full bar. Still, there was no bartender on duty as each server was responsible for having a full working knowledge (preparing and serving mixed drinks to suggesting wine pairings) of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. FOOD: - Crispy Fried Calamari served with spicy marinara: We enjoyed the crisp light coating and tender calamari rings and legs. The spicy marinara dip wasn't just liquidy and chunky, but it was creamy like an aïoli. There was a nice chili pepper kick to stimulate our palates. $14.95 - Escargots de Bourgogne: We couldn't resist ordering this traditional, flavorful Bourgogne gastronomic specialty. The escargots were served in a dish without shells, and the garlic and parsley butter filled each indentation in the dish. Yay! We weren't worried about steadying the escargots with escargot tongs while extracting the meat from each shell chamber. The garlic butter was great to dip our bread into, too. $14.95/6 -Fresh Fig and Burrata Salad: Seeing this menu item composed of fresh burrata cheese, fresh figs, beets, and fig glaze, I couldn't resist even though fresh figs aren't in season. The salad had tasty flavors and a good balance of textures. $16.95 - Veal Cutlet Piccata: My husband chose this classic Italian dish of tender veal cutlets sautéed in butter, lemon, caper, and white sauce. The cutlets were fork-tender and complemented well with the mild lemon butter sauce. $29.95 - Lobster Crêpe: As soon as I saw this menu item, I had to get it... who doesn't love fresh lobster meat rolled into thin, supple crêpes? Its description showed the California influence as each lobster crêpe was topped with wasabi tobiko caviar. The champagne sauce napped the crêpes without drowning the delicate and tender cooked lobster meat. Thankfully, this dish was accompanied by a lightly dressed baby mixed green salad with cutting the richness of the lobster. $34.95 - Profiteroles: We chose the profiteroles to finish our meal. There were three almost tennis ball sized profiteroles served with chocolate sauce. The pâté à choux was airy and light which balanced the dense vanilla ice cream. A drizzle of the chocolate sauce made for a delicious end of meal treat. $11.95/3 My relatives, who are regulars at Le Petit, ordered the Crispy Duck with orange and Grand Marnier sauce ($34.95) and Pan Roasted Wild Jumbo Scallops ($39.95). All of the dishes were nicely plated and flavorful. After dining at Le Petit, we understood the draw that this neighborhood French restaurant has to Angelenos. We'll be back! 4.4-stars read more

Came late on a Saturday night with no reservation but we were seated right away. They were getting ready to close the kitchen so I think the service was expedited a bit. It was attentive enough - no complaints. We started with the Tuna Tartare, which was nice. The Steak Au Poivre was quite basic. Not bad at all but nothing overwhelming. The Angus Burger was really tasty and worth the price. However, the best priced item of our meal was the $12 Plymouth Martini. A premium martini in many places is double that price, so regardless of the meal, I was happy about my cocktail. Le Petit Restaurant has the rumpled, time-worn ambiance of a neighborhood staple. Opened in the mid-nineties, it's clear that its heyday has passed. It doesn't seem to attract many new customers, but the regulars (ages 45-90+ the night I dined there) seem loyal. This was my first time at Le Petit. I had never heard of it, but was invited by friends of mine, and am always game to try something new. Going off of the food alone, I might have rated Le Petit a 4 star. I ordered French onion soup and mussels with fries, and both were just fine, if unremarkable. But other aspects of our dining experience were sub-par. First, the tables were squished together, as if the restaurant had tried to squeeze one more in than it should have to maximize restaurant capacity. And our table wasn't large, either; it was a small square, with very little space for our party of three. We also had the misfortune of being situated right next to the waiter's station, also blocking the only path to the exit. So one of our party kept getting bumped every time a waiter or patron squeezed by. He was pretty annoyed. And the service? Not very good. It took the waiter at least 15 minutes to come by and take our order. When he finally did, I ordered "Soupe à l'oignon" to start (which is what French onion soup is called in French/ France). To my bemusement, the waiter looked at me blankly.... Clearly not speaking a word of French. So I switched to English, ordering my main course as "mussels with fries" instead of its French name, moules frites -- and thinking how weird that felt, considering we were sitting in a French restaurant. All told, the experience was not amazing; "good," but not "very good." There is valet parking or metered street parking which doesn't end till 8pm. Read the posted street signs. Service is like most non Étoile eatery in Paris.  Quick, fast to take your order and move on. They are informative only if it warns the customer about wait times for certain dishes or advising their wines on what may pair with the dishes especially on a busy Monday night when many other restaurants are not open.    0) Bread is a light sour dough, soft, plush, moist inside with a rustic, tough crust.   a) Hummus:  Pleasantly rough ground, bit grainy. Cumin & lemon juice shines through.  b) Puréed eggplant is fried, mashed into a creamy mousse.  c) Harissa here has a chile piquant punch along with a mélange of herbs & garlic that seems sautéed in oil to make it a scarlet, orange red.  d) Butter   1) Merguez: Small diameter ground, wonderfully gamey lamb sausage spiked with a lot of earthy herbs to complement the bucolic lamb. The same Harissa red chile spice blend in oil generously dresses the Merguez.  May not be as flavourful as Chef Zadi of Revolucionario North African Tacos fame, but still would stand up to a North African eatery in the Marais.    2) Very good Canard à l'Orange that Le Petit calls "crispy duck". The roast half duck undergoes high heat in the last few minutes and basted with an orange juice & Grand Marnier bitter orange cognac liqueuer. The skin is a fatty, delicious leather rather than crispy.  The thigh & leg as well as the thick breast meat is moist, meaty, lightly gamey not over cooked and dry as can happen in other French restaurants. The Sauce à l'Orange has a pleasingly high Grand Marnier factor.  The Wild 'Rice' & long grain rice is wet from broth and flavoured with a herb blend. Green beans & carrots are fine garnishes.  1-2a) Domaine La Remejeanne Côtes du Rhône 2019:  Typical Rhône wine that has juicy black fruits like scents of blackberry, touch black cherry, alcohol, touch woody, faint milk chocolate, toasty brown sugar. Touch raspy tannins, acidic dryness to counter the fruity sweetness. At $14/glass Le Petit is making a good profit.   3) Soufflé au Grand Marnier:  Takes minimum 20 minutes. Perhaps may be better to order at the beginning before the meal.  The Soufflé rises like a cylindrical, flat top tower and is crispy to contrast with the warm, moist, velvety, plush interior.  Very good Soufflé that is accompanied by an excellent Crème Anglaise that is eggy, creamy, rich with what may be Madagascar or Tahitian vanilla. Also, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream,  chocolate sauce, and the more pedestrian whip cream from a pressurized can.  With the demise of Mon Trésor and Le Petit Chateau, Le Petit Restaurant may be the best French in the San Fernando Valley (Le Petit Trois not withstanding since it does not particularly impress).  At the conclusion of the meal, when many of the customers had left, Alina, my waitress originally from Algeria, had time for a short chat. She is very charmante and discussed with me the nuanced differences between Algerian and Moroccan North African cuisines since Le Petit featured quite a few of them. Another gentleman also recognized me since he took my reservation.  Nice way to end the meal on a social note. I hadn't been there since before Covid but finally went again tonight with my family and it was superb! We had the Beef Bourginone, Lobster, and Angelhair Pasta with chicken and a bottle of Napa Valley wine. The wait staff were outstanding. The thing I've always liked about this place, dating back many years, is that even though the dining room is small (le petit) the food is always great (le grande!) Very cute pretty atmosphere. The staff are all very sweet. The duck was really good it's not greasy at all maybe slightly on the dry side. My only complaint is the asparagus they are definitely over cooked and kind of small and dry. The liver Pate was good but I prefer more salt. Here is an update: Once again the whole meal was fabulous! I would highly recommend getting a reservation. Otherwise it will be very hard to get a table on a weekend. This place is always packed because it is so good. Once seated our server was lovely. We got to sat at one of the curbed booths this time we was lovely. The ambiance really brings me back to a busy restaurant in Paris. We got the caviar service which was divine. The branzino was so good and the flavor was great. Got the escargot again this time and so worth it. Perfect for sharing and dipping in the bread. Out martinis were super yummy and made to perfection. My friend loved their shrimp pasta. I highly recommend this place as the food and service never disappoint. Just be mindful to be patient as you may wait a little after your reservation due to being so busy. We just got home from Mother's Day brunch and we all remarked what a fantastic job they did. Mother's Day has to be a nightmare for so many restaurants, but Le Petit Restaurant assembled a large and varied menu with something for everyone, bottomless champs, festive decorations, and delightful service all for a very reasonable price. From start to finish, they reinforced why picking them in a crowded Mother's Day field was a great choice. The baked brie, foie, shrimp picante, crab cake Benedict, Burgundy omelette, baked salmon, crème brûlée, and chocolate mousse were all delicious, and the wine list offered some charming options. Pretty good French Restaurant on Ventura Blvd! Definitely better than Mistral down the road. First off, the ambiance was really nice. We sat outside but the inside was decorated with French art/decor. The wait staff was friendly and very helpful. We ordered the french onion and lobster bisque soup to start, shared the escargots and I got the mussels and my hubby got the lamb shank. Hubby got a glass of Paso Robles wine and I asked for a non-alcoholic mojito. They gave us bread with three dips to start - yummy! One of them was spicy and the other was hummus. The soups came out and were delicious! We dipped the bread in them and started to get kinda full. The escargots came out and they were pretty tasty. We also dipped the bread in this. In future, will not eat too much bread, lol. The main dishes came out shortly after - my mussels were tasty and came with a side of skinny fries. Tried some of the lamb, very tender and yummy! It is sad to be treated so poorly after supporting this restaurant for almost twenty years, through the pandemic as well. We made a reservation several weeks before New Year's Eve. We confirmed the day before, speaking with a lovely lady who said she could not confirm our requested table but she would make a note. We arrived ten minutes early and saw that our table was being set. We were told that someone already was going to seated there. We were ready to sit somewhere else but were told, rather rudely, it would be another 20 minutes. He didn't even check for our reservation, but treated us as walk-ins. Mind you this is at 6:00. We left and went to Petit Trois, where we were seated immediately and had a wonderful meal. They will now be our go-to French restaurant. read more

WOW! What a find! My friends and I had one of the most delicious dinners we've ever had at Le Petit Restaurant this evening. First we received a warm welcome from the parking valet, then from the maitre de and the waitress (Lauren). The decor is old world charming, and made us feel like we really could be in Paris. We had French Pear Salad and French Onion Soup to start. The salad was fresh and delicious, the soup was also wonderful. We ordered the Mushroom Ravioli and the Blackened Salmon, both of which were cooked to perfection and delicious. For dessert, we had a Chocolate Souffle and the Chocolate Temptation dark chocolate layer cake, both of which were divine. This restaurant is not cheap, but it's worth every penny! I have to start with the crème brulee because it was my favorite, perfectly torched with custard that was just the right consistency; I would have ordered 10 if I could. We enjoyed the French Onion Soup, Veal Picatta, and the Pan Seared Jumbo Shrimp. Highly recommend adding the lemon butter caper sauce to any dish that doesn't have it. Side note, they didn't have a cocktail menu, but they do have a full bar and extensive wine options. I've tasted a bit of everything throughout the years and all the dishes have been great! The quality of food is always high and the service is outstanding; everyone is friendly and attentive. Easily in my top 3 favorite French restaurants in the valley. I would say it's very similar, but better, to Mistral a block away on the same street. Petit Trois down the road is still my favorite but I would say Le Petit is solidly my #2. The crowd is a bit older than the other bistros, I'm in my 30's and was the youngest in the dining room tonight, so the pace is a bit different, but the service is the best I have had in the valley. Our server Petr was fantastic and so was the maître d' and everyone else we encountered. Parking in the area can be tricky but they do have valet out front. We found street parking 4 short blocks away so I can't complain. I started off with the summer Gazpacho and loved it. It was chunkier and less acidic than traditional Gazpacho, but I'd happily order it again. Next came the Merguez Sausages in harissa and that too was delicious. I'm a huge fan of that flavor combination and the sausages were deep in flavor and snappy. For my entrée I chose the John Dory with lemon butter tomato caper sauce it and was a great end to the meal with a good sized portion. We topped off the meal with a chocolate soufflé because soufflés are my favorite dessert and this one did not disappoint. Overall it was a delicious meal with wonderful service and fair pricing. I haven't dined in for quite awhile. We've had food delivered via Grubhub. The food is always consistent. The dining room is quaint and cozy. Oftentimes, we had the same server and he was always attentive in a quiet and stoic manner. I like their black truffle perlage on the appetizer menu. And their filet mignon is consistently satisfying. Their pumpkin ravioli (available year round) is rich and decadent. And I think they have the best chocolate soufflé. There's nothing particularly fancy about this restaurant but it isn't ultra casual either. It's a good spot for a date, dinner with friends or a special occasion. It's also perfect for a weeknight dinner out with your family. I don't think it's completely kid-friendly, but absolutely a family dinner with children 13 and older. Miranda was an awesome waiter, she knew it was my birthday and nobody even told her. The ambience is really nice and it feels very French. My husband, who is a vegetarian, was extremely pleased with his food: mushroom and truffle ravioli and an eggplant layered appetizer. Usually French restaurants don't have much for him, but there were choices here. My scallops entree was great, my dad's fish was good, and my mother's duck was delish. Came here last night for the first time for a last minute date night. Food was good (not great) - it was classic French restaurant fare, and they did a good job with it. I like that the food wasn't too frilly. It was just good food! But my fiance and I decided together that two big things could vastly improve the dining experience there - 1. There was no music? Put on some classic French tunes and it would do WONDERS for the atmosphere. Instead we just heard all the conversations of everyone else dining. 2. They need to turn the lights down by at least 20%. We are fully vaccinated! We decided to celebrate with our first in restaurant dinner. TL;DR: The food was pretty good. The service was acceptable considering the pandemic. The restaurant was waaaay too crowded. Tuna tartare - I noticed the avocado on the was a little on the dull green / brown side. The kitchen hid it under the tuna instead of placing it on top. My boyfriend didn't notice and I didn't tell him. Taste wise, it was fine. Beef carpaccio - It was good. I wish they dressed the greens instead of putting the dip on the side. I might be just nitpicking though. Lobster bisque - rich, creamy, very good. I only got a little taste. When my I looked up from my carpaccio, it was already devoured by my boyfriend. Crispy duck - two duck legs with a light orange sauce and wild rice. This was good. Duck skin was crispy and the fat was rendered nicely. If anything, it felt a little overcooked. Lamb shank - Very good. I only got a bite, but what's not to like? Slow cooked and tender. The meat literally fell off the bone. Creme brûlée and apple tart - Both were delicious. I don't have a big sweet tooth, but we were going all out. Service - I knew that after pandemic service would be a bit crazy. People going back to work. Restaurants are understaffed. New servers not familiar with the menu. It's all good. I totally understand and was prepared for it. What I wasn't prepared for was the crowd. The restaurant was at full capacity. There were no empty tables except the ones being turned. It was loud and boisterous. I was surprised because I thought restaurants weren't allowed to be at full capacity yet. It definitely didn't help with any anxiety I had about eating out. Would I go again? After restaurant eating normalizes again, I might. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with lasts night's experience at this restaurant. We have been there many times and this was the worst. For starters, they over book their times so we waited in the cold waiting area for about 15 minutes. The area by the door was jammed with people who were all waiting for their 6:30 reservations. Once we got a table, the waitress told us that we had to order all of our food at once and that she would pace it. Well,, that didn't happen..we ordered appetizers (French fries and Calamari) and they weren't even placed on the table and then here came the salads. WE sent the salads back. This is why I don't trust the system of ordering our food all at once. We were beyond rushed and the reason was they wanted to turn the tables as quickly as possible. The noise level was ridiculous and the whole experience was chaotic. Every time we turned around a waiter was passing us with food, water, wine glasses etc. The whole experience was not calm which is what we were looking for after what we all have been through. We ordered the trout and asked for more vegetables instead of potatoes since we already had French fries. WE were promptly told by the waitress that there is a upcharge for more vegetables because they are more expensive than potatoes. We agreed to the increase. When our dish came it has a small amount of vegetables so we had to ask for more. We all left feeling completely taken advantage of as this experience was just terrible. The aesthetics are charming in this little bistro. Emphasis on little as tables are packed in and very close together. The ambiance would have been better had the service been warmer. We don't eat French food often because it's so rich. The food here definitely fits that description being old school French. We had the cheese plate, the duck mousse, lamb chops and porcini mushroom ravioli. For dessert my husband had the raspberry crème brûlée and I had the pear and blueberry cobbler. Everything was good, but we probably ordered too much food. The service here is just okay. The Maitre d is an odd fellow who simply nodded and barely said a word to us when we gave our name and time for the reservation. Our server was inconsistent in appearance and took a long time in between ordering. We ordered a glass of wine to go with the apps and it was half gone by the time she came back to take our order. She was friendly and convivial to surrounding tables, just not us. I had made the note on Open Table that this was a birthday celebration. There was no mention of this at all. Not that we expected a free dessert, but an acknowledgment would have been appropriate. They don't offer a cocktail list and don't have a bartender so the servers have to make the drinks. Server explained how she guessed it was their way of only serving cocktails to people who know they are offered. Strange. We overheard the maitre d tell the table next to us they haven't changed the menu is 23 years. That probably explains the average age of the guests is over 65. I don't think I would come back, but if I did, it would be for the wine list. When server opened the bottle she really struggled with the wax around the top, butchering it and flinging wax everywhere. It hit me in the face just missing my eye. That said, they have some good bottles and a wonderful mix of California and French varietals at a decent price point. We settled on a Bordeaux that was quite nice at $65. That and a plate of frites and I might be happy. 3 stars for the food and wine. read more

Food: My friends and I enjoyed our food! Best onion soup! We had mussels that were the best thing on the menu. My lamb shank was delicious! So tender... meat fell off the bone. Couscous was good and nothing special about the carrots. Crème brûlée was okay. I wasn't a fan of the soufle . Too orangey for my liking and was not feeling the texture. Service: Excellent! Our waiter was awesome! Got seated right away and food didn't take long to come. Ambiance: it definitely gave France vibe. Bathroom can use some deep cleaning and maybe an update. Overall I can't wait to come back and try more delicious food. read more

Always a treat dining at Le Petit. We've been coming here for years. When I want something special and reliable, it's where my husband and I always end up for dinner. I love the Panatone bread pudding. It's perfect with tea or coffee. The whole menu is delicious. read more

Stopped by to have dessert. The chocolate soufflé was delicious and the best I ever had. Highly recommend!
